#2 of Love and obsessions

Eric remembers some important thing about his life since he had Kilia with him. Kilia is remembering as well, but of a more important thing. When Eric returns home, will they make up or will their differences push them apart?

Eric slowly opened his eyes, feeling some movement. His eyes went wide open and he sat up to see the small green dragon he had befriended one year ago begin to wake. He watched, stunned as she opened her eyes. Blinking, the dragon raised its long neck and looked around at its surrounding before stopping over Eric. There they stared at each other for several moments, both not looking away from each other.

"Kilia." Eric murmured, his eyes beginning to water. "Kilia, oh Thank goodness! I was so worried that you...that you..." He couldn't finish for he had wrapped his arms around the surprised dragon and began to cry.

Kilia sat there momentarily stunned. Where was she? How did she get here? What happened? Then it all came back to her. The four drunks that suddenly approached her. The resulting fight where she was pounded senselessly by their feet. The cry of Eric as she was blacking out, all of it came to her in a split second and her own tears began to fall.

"T-Thank you..." She muttered. It felt weird for the young dragon...being able to talk after years of being a mute. Eric pulled back, stunned that she was talking and she smiled happily. "Thank you...Eric...for being...my friend."

Eric tears only intensified as he brought Kiia into another tight hug, this time giving out a tight squeeze that made her eyes bug out. Thankfully, the two parted when the door opened in the small (hospital?) room and revealed a woman wearing a suit worn by veterinairians.

Kilia was surprised, mainly because the woman looked just like Eric in many ways. She had the same black hair, longer of course, the same dark green eyes and even the same face shape. Excluding the baby fat of course.

"So you're awake." The woman said, smiling as she walked over to the bed shaped much like a dragons nest. Kilia stepped back, giving a low rumble from her throat that caused the newcomer to back off a little. But the woman still kept the smile.

"Good, self defensive already." She turned to a small table where she picked up a small clipboard. "Fractured jaw: fully healed. Broken wings: fully recovered. Broken leg: worried for a moment that we would have to perform surgery on you but you pulled through at the last minute. All bruises and sprains healed. Seems you're good to go." The woman placed the clipboard down before turning to the two.

Kilia was afraid. She hated strangers she didn't know but then she felt Eric hold her once more. She looked over at his face, surprised to see a small smile on him.

"Its okay Kilia." He comforted her. "She my mom but she's also the head draconic vet in town. She fixed you up while you were asleep." Kilia still wasn't happy with the woman who was still smiling at her.

"Seems she's very protective of herself. Doesn't show shread of trust to me." The woman turned and began to leave, only to stop at the door. "Which is why you'll be taking care of her at home Eric."

The two sat there stunned as they watched the woman smile warmly once more at them. "Welcome to the Family Kilia."

Twenty years later.

Eric stood up from the brush with a sigh. His mind was a buzz with memories that followed suit. Bringing Kilia home, trying to get her trained to be in a house. Of course she was stubborn towards everyone but was less so to Eric.

Eric smirked at the first night. They had went to get her an artificial nest for her. He placed it in the corner of his room for her but Kilia never even touched it. Instead, Kilia hopped into Eric's bed and cuddled with him.

With a small smile, he turned and began to walk back the way he came. As he walked, his green eyes wandered over the forest flooring. Everywhere he looked, he saw visions of him and Kilia playing together. He even saw one tree where she had somehow managed to get stuck in its branches.

He chuckled at that one, the thought of how he had to go get a ladder just to get her upside down form free. But then another memory entered his mind. This one was a sadder memory for Eric and he had rather blank face as he walked home.

"Hey Kilia, I'm curious about something." He said to the green dragon as they walked down the forest path. It had been six years since they met and Eric was now eleven while Kilia was fourteen.

The dragon only sorted as she looked up at him. "Then talk to your mother, not me." Eric only chuckled at her in a amused manner, the two stopping suddenly.

"No, this is something you should be able to answer." He laughed, turning to look at her directly. His smile turned into a serious face, something that didn't suit him at all. "Kilia, why were you alone out here in the first place back when...we first met."

She stopped, her face going dark. "Again?" She asked, barely even turning to him. He slowly nodded.

"Again."

"You always ask that." Kilia sighed, still not looking up at him. Eric was about to walk again, thinking that she wasn't going to answer as always. Soon he was a short distance ahead of her when she suddenly spoke.

"My previous owner...never paid attention to me." she said sadly. Eric turned to contemplate her dark face. "Nor my mother or my father. But that was to be expected...I was the runt and was expected to die at a young age. You know I should be taller then you at this age right?"

Eric nodded. For her species of dragon, they were normally the size of a full grown human but Kilia was only up to his chest, even when she raised her head up. "Because of that, I hoped my owner would take care of me. But he didn't. All he cared about...was women."

"Day in day out, there was a woman on his arm and a bottle of booze in the other." She looked down at the ground. "My parents weren't any kinder, they just went out and grabbed what they could to eat and gave it to my brothers and sisters."

She sighed sadly. "So, five years after constant neglect, I left." She looked up at the nearby clearing, the same one that they first met in. "I was there for almost three years before we met Eric. I often starved for the day because I couldn't scavenge anything."

She finished her story, not meeting his gaze. With a sigh of his own, he turned back to the path. "Kilia." He muttered, causing the dragon to look up at his form. "No matter what happens, ill be there for you. ?" He turned and grinned at her.

"I'll be there because I love you. No matter what, I promise that I will. Always."

Kilia sighed as she watched the clock above her small bed in the living room tick away. It was ten o'clock and Eric was supposed to be home at eight. The small dragon was beginning to worry about him.

Standing up, she slowly slinked her way to the kitchen where she ate from the bag with dragon kibble in it. Kilia normally didn't do this, but she did so on occasions where Eric either forgot to feed her (for good reasons of course) or for these kinds of situations.

With a small belch, she began to walk back to the living room to wait for Eric. But at the front entrance hallway she heard the familiar sounds of jingling house keys and she turned her long neck to look down the dark hall towards the front door. She watched as a shadow in the shape of a man was busy with something in his hands and she bent herself down. Kilia slowly crawled to the door, looking much like a panther or lion ready to pounce on prey as her blue eyes watched the doorknob begin to turn.

The door opened with a click and Eric opened the door. "I'm hooooOOOOWAAGGG!" The man began to call only for his call to turn into a surprised scream, catching the green dragon in his hands as she pounced. He backed up a few steps, his heels barely on his front door step as he bent backwards to keep his balance.

"Hoo! That was a close one!" Eric chuckled as he smiled at Kilia who in turn frowned at him. "It seems that all those constant pounce greetings of yours have finally done something for oOWANCE!"

Kilia, not too happy with Eric still standing, wrapped her tail around is ankle and pulled. This caused Eric to scream once more in mid sentence as he fell backwards onto the soft grass of his front yard while his lower back hit the pavement of his walkway.

"Ow." He muttered as Kilia smiled on top of him. The small dragon bent her neck down to give him an affectionate kiss. Eric stopped her by placing his finger on her lips, causing the dragon to look at him in a confused manner.

"Not in the mood Kilia." Eric sighed, pushing the green dragon off. Brushing the dust off and fixing his hair, Eric walked inside his home where Kilia followed.

"Why not?" She asked as Eric closed the door and turned the light on while tossing his keys onto a nearby stand. Eric shrugged, brushing past her as he walked int the kitchen where he grabbed himself a glass of water.

"Eric, you went to see your therapist didn't you?" She suddenly asked. Eric was shocked badly by that, spitting his mouthful of water everywhere. Wipping his mouth, he looked over at his friend stunned.

"H-How long?" He stuttered, his eyes still quite wide as he grabbed a cloth to clean up the mess. Kilia only sighed as Eric refilled his glass. He took another drink as she spoke again.

"Shortly after you first started seeing him." Kilia muttered. "And...I know what it's about."

Once more, Eric spat his water out but this time he managed to get it into the nearby sink. "WHAT?!" He cried, spinning around on his heels to face her. "So let me get this straight...you had sex with me...knowing fully that I am a SEX ADDICT?!"

That last part he roared out, standing over his dragon in a threatening manner. "And do you know about my 'blackouts'?!" Kilia flinched, refusing to meet his eyes. This only confirmed it and he spun around, upset with what was going on. "What the hell Kilia?!"

He stood there, wiping his face as though trying to rid himself of what was happening. Meanwhile, Kilia was feeling rather enraged. "So what if I know?!" She cried, suddenly walking towards him. Eric turned to face her, his mouth open as he was about to say something only to stop when's he saw the rage in her eyes.

"So what?!" Kilia cried, bashing him with the top of his head to push him back. "I love you! I always had and yet here you are, yelling at me for it!" Tears were flowing down her cheeks. "What the hell is wrong with you? Why were you gone so late?! You were supposed to be home at eight!"

Eric's face went dark, Kilia only frowning at him as it did so. "Well?" He did not reply, making her angry. She head butted him yet again. "WELL?!"

He refused to meet his gaze and he relaxed slowly. "I...went to where we first met...to remember." Kilia relaxed finally having her answer and she smiled, thinking it was something worse.

"But... That's not so bad so why...?" She stopped when his fist clenched.

"Don't you get it Kilia?" Eric cried, his body shaking. "Dragon and man can't be together! It's taboo! It's...it's...it's disgusting!" Kilia stepped back not believing a word he just said.

"So that's it then?" She suddenly sobbed, tears forming in her eyes. "You find me...revolting? But...what about the promise you made when I told you...about my previous owner?"

Now the tears were flowing, the salty liquid making her scale gleam in the light of the kitchen. Eric felt his rage slowly ebb away, only to be replaced by sadness when he saw Kilia crying before him.

"Was that all a lie?" She cried as she lowered her head. "Was everything we've ever done fake?" That last part made him wince, regretting what was going on right now.

Eric sighed and bent down to her height. "No, no, no." He shushed her, gently holding her in a comforting hug. "Of course not Kilia. You mean a lot to me. Your my best friend and nothing will change that." He began to rock the two of them back and forth."I'm sorry, please. I love you." He gave the dragon a small kiss on the top of her head, Kilia suddenly grasping his shirt in her one hand.

"But I want you to really love me!" She cried out, rubbing her head as though trying to hide from the world by pulling herself into Eric. "I love you so much but all you see is an..an..an animal!" Eric felt his eyes begin to fill with tears as well.

Eric sat there, holding her close to him as she cried into his shoulder on the kitchen floor. Soon, her cries of sadness turned into hiccups. With a final kiss, he picked her up and carried her down the hallway.

"Where...are we going?" She sniffed, finally noticing that they were in the hallway. "Eric?"

"Bed." Eric said, opening his bedroom door. Inside, he placed her gently on the bed and undressed down to his boxers. Tossing the covers up, he hopped into bed and pulled the green dragon close, her body facing his. "I'll talk to my therapist again tomorrow. But Kilia..." His voice died down. "You know we can't be together. If we had such a relationship, you could be taken away. Please, just...lets be friends."

Kilia sat there, her eyes not leaving his chest. "Kay." She said sadly, nuzzling into his chest just under Eric's jaw. It was some minutes later when she was fast asleep, one of her clawed hands pressed in a closed fist against his chest.

Eric closed his eyes, squeezing Kilias form gently. "What the hell am I going to do with you, you overgrown lizard...?" Eric muttered feeling his own tears slowly fall from his cheek and onto the bed. Soon he fell asleep, his mind wondering one last time what the next day may bring.
