The Howl in the Night

Chapter 4

Jacob sat on his bed and waited, his pajama pants and a t-shirt in his arms as he wait for David to finish his shower. Jacob's eyes trained on the TV playing some movie when he hears the door open up signaling that David was finished. Jacob stood up and turned toward the bathroom door to find his friend standing in black slacks, a purple button up dress shirt and looking at him confused.

"Man, what do you think you're doing?" asked David.

Jacob scratched the back of his head before pointing to the bathroom, "Um, going to take a shower then go to bed," and then he pointed at David, "what about you?"

David frowned then held a finger waving it before saying, "Oh no you're not, were going to the club mister."

Jacob blinked in surprise, "The club? Uh, I think not, the chaperons will be waking through to make sure we're in bed; don't tell me you are actually going through with it?" This earned him a nod and smiled from David. Jacob gave him and annoyed look, "I don't have any cloths for that sorta thing, so it was a waste of time for you to make those false IDs."

David just smiled even wider which made Jacob a little unease. He watched as David walked over to his suite case and pulled out a pair of Jacob's black slacks and a blue button up dress shirt.

"Sorta swapped it from your closet the other day," David smiled wickedly.

"But..." Jacob was about to say before David grabbed his arm and pushed him with the clothes into the bathroom.

"No buts, now get in there and shower, Amy's going to be here soon," David ordered before shutting the bathroom door.

Jacob looked at the closed door and just rolled his eyes before turning on the shower. After stripping off his clothes he stepped into the warm water and washed himself off, paying attention to the delicate areas. He rinsed off, turned off the shower and pulled a towel off the rack to dry off. Jacob pulled on the clothes David picked out for him and stepped out of the bathroom.

David and Amy both looked up to see Jacob all dressed up like he was ready for a hot date. Amy let out a wolf howl which made Jacob blush and smile. Jacob then looked Amy over who was wearing a knee length red cocktail dress. Nothing slutty, that was never Amy's style, but still very pleasing to the eye to show off the curves of her figure.

"Wow Amy, you look gorgeous, lucky for you, you have us around to protect you from the guys," Jacob commented.

Amy laughed at the comment before waving it off, "Thanks, but I don't need you guys to protect me, I can take care of myself," she held up her fists and practiced a few punches. "My dad didn't have me take boxing lessons for now reason," she said.

David grabbed both of them and pulled them out the door after looking out for the chaperons, "Come on before all the hot la...I mean line gets too long," he said.

The trio then departed from their room and headed to the other side of the resort's building to the resort's club. There wasn't a very long line but that was only because the club wasn't in full swing yet. Jacob stood behind his friends nervously as they made their way up the line the bouncer at the front door looked at every person's ID till he got to David and looked it over.

He raised an eyebrow and opened his mouth to say something when he stopped and tilted his head a little. He looked back at David and gave him back the ID and motioned for all three of them to pass, not even to check the ID. Jacob gave the man a weird look when he got the door, he wondered if he knew they were fake, it looked like he did, and if so, then why did he let them pass. The questions vanished as soon as Amy called for him to come and see the club.

There were two levels to the club, and upper level for the VIPs of the resort and the floor level for the average Joes. The floor level was divided into two spaces, one half was for the dancers who bounced, grinded, and moved in ways that would make a nun faint from shock. The glass dance floor had various lights, greens, blues, reds, and yellows, flashing to illuminate it. The other half was the bar and small tables. The music pounded from the speakers overhead pumping up the dancers on the dance floor as flashing lights and lasers lit up the club.

Amy and David pulled Jacob over to the bar where they ordered their drinks. David and asked for some type of cocktails that Jacob never heard of, while he just asked for a beer. All of them then headed to a nearby table and sat down to watch people on the dance floor.

Amy leaned over to Jacob and yelled over the music, "Isn't this cool?"

Jacob shrugged and replied, "I guess."

Amy just rolled her eyes and smiled as she pushed at his shoulder before taking a sip of her drink. Then someone came up to the table and tapped Amy on the shoulder.

The man looked to be about in his mid-20's with his head shaved of all hair minus his eye brows. He flashed Amy a wide pearly white smile while his brown eyes shined. He held up his hand before asking, "Hello sugar, would you like to join me on the dance floor?"

Amy smiled wide before looking at David then Jacob and then back to the stranger and took his hand. "Yeah, love too." The man smiled wider before pulling her off her chair and leading her to the glass dance floor. Amy began to sway her hips along with the beat of the music and raised her arms into the air as her dance partner came up behind her and grabbing her hips and ground up against her. His nose buried into her neck as he swayed with her.

Jacob smiled at his friend's fun and thought about the girl's mother and what she'd think about her angel. Then he looked over to David to voice his thought when he saw him shooting death rays of hate at the guy.

"Hey," Jacob yelled over the music reaching over to put a hand on his friend's shoulder, "you ok?" he asked.

David put on a smile and nodded before standing up, "Yeah, going to get another drink see ya in a bit."

Jacob nodded and watched as he vanished into the crowed which was building in the resorts club. Jacob turned his attention towards Amy's dance for a little bit before looking around for looking around at the club more carefully but after a little while he wondered where David was.

He stood up and began searching for him starting at the bar but didn't find him till he walked towards the dance floor and saw him dancing with girl in a pink belly shirt and short skirt. Jacob laughed to himself and watched his friends until the volume of the starting giving him a headache. He walked over to the bartender and asked about a quieter place for him to be for a little bit and the woman gestured to a hall along the side of the club.

Jacob followed the hall which passed the bathrooms and out onto a patio outside. It stopped snowing and cleared up to show the beauty of the night sky. Jacob smiled to himself and sat down on a nearby bench and just stared up at the night sky and the partially completed moon.

"It's called a Waxing Gibbous," came a familiar voice.

Jacob's head twisted around too fast from fright and he yelped in pain, grabbing the back of his neck and rubbing it. A pair of hands pushed his away and began to massage his neck.

"Ouch, got to be careful there Jacob," Marcus said while he rubbed his thumbs against Jacob's neck.

"Uh, y-yeah," Jacob replied then swallowed before he felt the hands moved around to his chin pushing up to make him look up at Marcus.

Marcus' eyes peered down Jacob's for a little bit before asking, "So...what are 3 recently graduated high school students, doing in a club for 21 years and older?"

Jacob's eyes grew wide from shock at being caught. He pulled his head away from Marcus' grasp and stood up to face the older man. "Well, um, w-we were l-lost, yeah, we were lost," Jacob lied, and a bad lie it was.

Marcus let out a booming laugh and covered his mouth, "Oh, sheesh that was the worst lie I've ever heard."

Jacob look chewed on his lower lip and nodded, "Yeah, it was."

Marcus regained his posture and smiled wide which made Jacob blush and look back up at the moon.

"Um, so, y-you called it a Waxing Gibbous?" Jacob asked trying to get Marcus' attention off of him.

Marcus nodded looking up to the moon, "Yes, waxing meaning building, and gibbous coming from a Latin word meaning hump. It's the phase of the moon before the full moon.

Jacob nodded, "Um, that's cool." He then turned his attention toward the stars and looked at the constellations.

Marcus looked over to Jacob before smiling to himself, stepping up closer to him and pointing up so that Jacob can see. "Ok, see that group of stars there, the one that looks like a pan?" Jacob nodded slowly as he looked at where Marcus was pointing, "That's the big dipper, and if you look at the lip of the dipper, and follow that star to that one there," he looked down at Jacob who was watching the sky closely, "You just found the Polaris, the North Star."

Jacob smiled a little before looking over at Marcus and seeing his eyes staring at him. He took a step back and blushed as he looked away back to the stars. As he stepped away he felt colder from the amazing inferno that was Marcus' body, and shivered from its absence.

Marcus cleared his throat and then turned to scan the sky again before pointing to another star, "That, that's Gamma Cephei, a part of the Cepheus Constellation," he looked over to see if the younger boy was following his finger, "That will someday, in about a thousand years, be the future North Star."'

Jacob blinks and looked over at Marcus like he grew two head, "What?"

Marcus nodded and smiled, "Yep."

"But how?" Jacob asked.

"Well, you know how the earth's axis is a little off and isn't straight up and down?" Jacob nodded before Marcus continued, "Well, someday the earth's axis will shift as it rotates around the sun, and will point at Gamma Cephei instead."

Jacob was just about to comment about how cool that was when the door to the club burst open and a slightly drunk woman stumbled over to Marcus. She was in high heels, a red skin tight dress that barely hide her cleavage.

"Marcie, honey, this is where you vanished to?" she shrieked out before wrapping her arms around Marcus and laid her head on his shoulder, "I missed you, why did you leave me all alone?"

Jacob watched as Marcus seemed a bit annoyed and replied, "I just wanted to get some fresh air."

As Jacob watched, he couldn't help but feel a little twinge of sadness as he watched the woman rub herself all over Marcus. Why, he asked himself, why would he care if this...this...this tramp and Marcus were together? Jacob slowly walked away before he slipped on some ice and fell banging his head on a wooden bench nearby.

Marcus quickly ran over to help Jacob up on to the bench, abandoning the drunken woman who nearly fell over.

"Are you ok?" asked Marcus who kneeled in front of him, checking for a cut but didn't find any. He then reached over and picked up a hand full of snow, squishing it into a ball and lightly pressed it to Jacob's head where he hit his head.

Jacob hissed in pain, "Y-yeah, I'm ok, just going to feel it in the morning."

Marcus nodded and looked over to the woman, "Olivia, I'm going to get some ice and some pain killers, you watch him to make sure he doesn't fall over, ok?"

The woman nodded as she watched Marcus walked back into the club.

Jacob closed his eyes and tried to mentally will the throbbing pain away when he felt eyes on him. This time when he looked up, he didn't meet the kind eyes of Marcus, but the angered eyes of the drunk woman who quickly walked over to him and pushed him down to lay on the bench.

"Look you little twerp, you stay away from Marcus, you understand me?" she growled out, it literally sounded like a growl to Jacob. She then poked him in the chest painfully, "You stay away, he's MINE, and I will not be competing with some snot nosed kid." The last part Jacob could have sworn he saw her grey eyes flash yellow.

Jacob swallowed and nodded his head quickly as to not anger the woman anymore then she apparently seemed.

So afterward, Marcus returned and looked at the pair with a raised eyebrow. Olivia stood up straight and smiled at Marcus, "I just suggested to him that he should lay down for a little bit."

Marcus looked towards Jacob for reassurance of what she said. Jacob looked between the two and nodded his head before standing up on shaky legs and making his way back towards the club entrance. "I-I need to g-go, bye," he quickly said.

Before Marcus could stop him, Jacob sped past him and back into the club. He looked around the club for his friends. He saw them talking to each other at the table they were sitting at earlier and made his way over.

"Look, I just don't think it's appropriate, ok?" said David pointing a finger towards the dance floor.

"Appropriate? Appropriate?" she asked in annoyance and anger.

"Uh, guys? You ok?" Jacob asked when he got close enough to gain their attention.

Both of them turned toward him and both said, "Yeah," before sitting back, looking away from each other and folding their arms.

Jacob gave them both a curious look before declaring, "Um, I-I think it's time to head to bed, well for me at least, I'm getting tired."

Both of his friends stood up and agreed and walked on opposite sides of him as they made it back to their rooms.

As they snuck up to Amy's room, Jacob was surprised when Amy only said night to him and not to David, and vice versa. As they got back to their room Jacob looked over at David who was undressing himself in an aggressive fashion.

"Um, David, are things ok?" he asked.

"Yeah, peachy, just peachy," David declared before slipping into bed and turning out the lights, leaving only the TV on to illuminate the room.

Jacob looked at his friend with concern as he slipped off his clothes and crawled into his bed. He breathed out a huge sigh. His tired mind filled with today's events. The animal in the woods, the way that Marcus acts towards him, the woman, Olivia, who seemed ready to kill him, and his friends being angry at each other and not telling him. He sighed again and let sleep take him, only momentarily, jumping up from bed when he heard a howl in the night.
