#1 of Metal-Heads

Kirek was driving down the street on a rainy day, all the while listening to Slipknot. Slipknot was Kirek's favorite metal band. He was a dragon of about twenty-five years of age, approximately six feet five inches tall and had a very muscular build due to how much he worked out. His hair was jet black just like the rest of his body. He tried to keep his hair well cared for. This was because whenever head-banged listening to the heavy metal he loved so much, he thought it was cool to have his hair swing around. All in all, he was the living embodiment of what many people would call 'dead sexy.'

He currently had on his favorite song: The Blister Exists. He loved this one so much because it was the song that first got him into the hardcore scene. He mouthed the words to the song as he drove:

"Bones in the water, and dust in my lungs,

Absorbing archaic like a sponge.

The ultimate way is the way you control,

But can you stay if you detach your soul?

Bury the present and squeeze out the past,

The ones you endear to never last.

Chemical burns and the animalistic,

I'm just another hardline pseudo statistic!"

Then the chorus brought on a fresh bout of head bobbing while he nonchalantly gazed at the road ahead of him.

However, when he absentmindedly glanced out his window, he saw a female otter in the car next to him. The first thing he noticed was her long, beautiful brown hair. He then noted that her hair was being tossed around as her head bobbed up and down to what sounded vaguely like Slayer to the dragon.

Whether she heard his music from his open window, or saw all the band stickers on his car she glanced out her passenger window at him. Seeing that they obviously shared a common interest Kirek raised his hand to his window with his pinky and index finger extended. She grinned and returned the gesture.

As her car pulled away from his he smiled to himself. It was always nice to find a fellow heavy metal fan.

But as her car enter an intersection she was hit from the side by another driver who hadn't been paying attention.

"Oh my fucking God!" he yelled. He immediately pulled off to the shoulder and ran back to the intersection to see if anyone was hurt.

When he arrived he was shocked to see that the car that had hit hers was gone: a hit-and-run accident. This made Kirek livid with anger. If there was one thing he couldn't stand it was people who had no concern for anyone but themselves. The fact that the other driver decided to flee instead of doing the right thing and seeing if she was okay. It was the latter role that Kirek filled now.

Running up to the woman's car, he discovered that the accident wasn't as bad as he had thought. The passenger's side of the car was lightly damaged but that was it. She had also gotten out of the car and was sitting on the curb looking very distraught.

"Ma'am, are you alright?" he asked as he walked up to her, sounding very concerned. She was apparently in some kind of stupor, for she didn't respond right away. She just kind of stared at him.

Veronica just looked in awe at the dragon before her. Maybe it was the slight post-accident shock getting to her, but she didn't think she had ever seen a more handsome male in her life.

Kirek was battling similar thoughts at this moment. While looking at her through her right window, it had been hard for him to get a decent look at her. He was just now realizing how pretty she was. She was lithe but muscular, which wasn't all that surprising for an otter but it still intrigued him. He berated himself fro thinking about it, but she also had very shapely hips and quite an ample bosom. The fact that she also wore a black Iron Maiden T-shirt also caught his attention. He shook his head slightly to clear the cobwebs.

"Ma'am?" he asked.

Her brain finally kicking back into gear, she found the words.

"Y-yes, I think I'm alright, but the bastard that hit me just ran away!" she said in a furious tone.

"I think I should get you to a hospital." Said Kirek.

"Oh, no. D-Don't worry about it. I'm sure there is nothing to worry about." She said a little shakily.

"But I'd like to air on the safe side just to make sure you're okay. You know just as well as I do that whiplash doesn't need to be apparent right away to be a problem." he replied.

"I don't want to trouble you." She said adamantly, shivering slightly.

"If you really don't want to trouble me, then stop refusing my offer and let me help you." He said with a firm tone.

"O-okay, if you insist." She said in an unsteady voice.

"I do. Now come on, my car is on the shoulder just up ahead. Here.........just.......... hold this over your head to keep yourself out of the rain." He said as he pulled his shirt over his head and handed it to her. Her breath caught in her throat again as she saw how muscular he was. They finally reached his car and he opened the passenger door and helped her inside.

"Why are you doing this? Getting wrapped up in the plight of a woman you barely know?" she asked weakly as he sat down behind the wheel.

"Well, I know that we both like to listen to heavy metal, so I guess that makes us a little less than strangers. But mostly because nobody deserves to have their day fucked up by some asshole like that. You needed help and I thought I might as well be the one to give it to you." He said simply with a soft gaze and warm smile.

Veronica didn't know why, but she was immensely touched by the dragon's words.

"But I don't even know your name. I think I'm entitled to know who exactly it was who came to my aid." She said.

"My name is Kirek." He said as he held offered her his clawed hand.

"Veronica." She replied as they shook hands.

When they arrived at the hospital, Kirek went to the front desk and explained to the receptionist, a koala, what had happened.

"I doubt it's anything serious. Probably just a little jarred from the crash. But just in case I'll refer you to Dr. Evans right away." She said

"Thank you so much. I hope you're right." Said the dragon. He was a little surprised that he was getting this involved with some woman he barely knew. But something about her made him want to make sure she was okay.

Kirek led the unsteady otteress through the double doors to the room where they were instructed to wait. About five minutes past before a female fox in a white coat walked in from a side door and called them in. She led the two through a labyrinth of hallways until finally entering a room with a single bed.

"It's as our receptionist said, I doubt there is anything to be worried about. But I'm glad your friend here had the foresight to have us check anyway." The doctor said with a smile.

"I'll just wait outside." Kirek said and left the room after giving Veronica a smile.

After approximately thirty minutes the side door opened again and out came the doctor with a very perky looking Veronica.

The fox smiled and spoke to Kirek. "It's just as I though; there was nothing to be concerned with. It's probably just nerves from the accident. But as you can see, she's feeling much better now." She said as she looked at Veronica.

"Yes, thank you so much. I guess the knowledge that I'm physically okay is all it takes to get me feeling better mentally." Said Veronica

"Thank you very much Doctor............Evans was it?" Kirek asked

"Yes. You two have a good day and if any problems come up just call."

"Would you like a ride home?" asked the dragon.

"Yes, Please!" Veronica said, sounding eager for some reason.

The two strolled out to the parking lot and got into his car. She gave him directions to her house.

"1783, Walnut Court you say? Dou you happen to know a Dick Withers at 85 by any chance?" he asked.

"Uh, no. I don't think so." Said Veronica.

"Well it does." Said Kirek making her bust out in laughter.

"What was it you were listening to when I saw you on the road?"

"Oh, I was listening to Slayer."

"That's what it sounded like to me when I was along side you."

"What's your favorite metal band, Kirek" she inquired.

"Oh, I'm a hardcore maggot for life. I love Slipknot."

"Really, I love them too!"

"Are they your favorite band as well?"

"Not quite. They would be if it wasn't for Metallica."

"Oh, like the classics do we?"

"Hell Yes! I love all the old school heavy metal bands: Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, and as I'm sure you've noticed by now, Iron Maiden as well." She said with a smile and emphasizing her shirt.

"Well, this is the street. Which one is your house?" queried the dragon.

'Oh, that one right there." said the otter as she pointed to a quaint little house at the end of the road.

Kirek pulled into the driveway and shut off the car. He walked her up to her door and stopped.

"Well Miss Veronica, I guess this is as far as I go. I hope to see you around some time." He said as he started to leave.

"W-wait!" she called to him. He turned around and looked at her with a gentle questioning look.

"I-I would really like to see you again. It's obvious we both have a lot in common when it comes to music, m-maybe I could, you know, give you a call sometime." She said shyly.

Kirek smiled at her and took out a piece of paper. He wrote something on it using the hood of his car.

"I can honestly say that I would like that very much Veronica. I can honestly say that I could only stand to benefit from learning more about a person like you. Here's my number if you ever want to get in touch with me." He said with a soft grin.

"Thank you again for everything you've done, Kirek." Said the otter as she gave him a hug. Kirek was a little surprised, but he thought it felt kind of good so he returned the gesture, wrapping his arms around her and squeezing gently. When they released each other, they were surprised to find their hearts beating slightly faster.

"Until then, Kirek." Said the otter.

"Until then, Veronica." Said the dragon.

As he started to back out of her driveway, he stopped and stuck his hand out the window, his hand in the classic devil's horn salute. She laughed and raised her paw and imitated him. When he was gone, she stepped inside, she leaned against the back of the door and held the piece of paper to her chest and sighed dreamily as she slid down to her knees her back sliding against the door.
