The morning dew had begun to settle on the grass, the suns first rays starting to clear the sky. The grassy knoll was quiet for the moment, but it would soon be active with businessmen on their way to work and children on their way to school.

A bird called out of the bushes, breaking the silence of the morning. A gentle mist drifted amongst the grass, hiding anything bellow a foot under itself.

There was a clicking of heals on the pathway that ran the length of the knoll and the bird that had called out flew up in fright. A swish of a cloak blew the mist into rolling waves as the owner stepped off the path and onto the grass.

The owner of the cloak unfastened it and with a swish cleared some of the creeping mist from a prone body on the ground. The figure of the anthro was very feminine and tall, a long and very fluffy tail flicked once as the female viewed the body. She bent down, unfurling a pair of large, black wings to steady herself. She cocked her head to the side, reaching out a slender hand and touching the face of the body. When she withdrew it her fingertips were smeared with scarlet. She sighed, apparently exasperated.

"Come along, little canine," she murmured in a sweet, melodic voice, "you may be a beaten and bloodied carcass, but you still have some life left in you."

She knelt down, draping the cloak over the twisted corpse, viewing it thoroughly through golden eyes. With a clawed finger she tilted the muzzle of the canine carcass upwards, tracing the jaw line with the scarlet covered claw. She bent low over the muzzle, as though to kiss the cold lips; opening her mouth instead and breathing into the open jaws of the canine.

For a moment nothing happened. The dawn was silent, as though waiting for what would happen next. Then the corpse took a shuddering breath and coughed erratically, its whole form shaking. The female held onto its shoulders, steadying it. Once the wracking coughs subsided the figure started to panic, struggling in the females surprisingly strong grip.

"Who are you?" they rasped, "What's happening?"

"Shush little canine," mewed the female softly, making the ex-corpse fall silent.

"I am Mistress," she told them calmly, "I saved you from death."

"How? They- they were here! They killed me! Beat me raw!"

"I know," she murmured, stroking their cheek, "now lay still, or those bones won't heal right."

"I have to get out of here, they'll come back!" they squeaked, struggling against her.

She growled, unfurling her big, raven like wings and bore her large, ivory canines. The male canine stared up at her, paralyzed with fear.

"That's better," she said softly, stroking the canine's cheek gently.

"What are you?" they murmured.

"I am Mistress. Your Mistress. I saved you and you love me. You love me."

"I love you?"

"You love me and I love you," she purred, gathering the canine into her arms.

"I love you Mistress," the canine sighed, stroking her silken, pure black fur.

"And I love you," she murmured, carrying him away through the thinning mists.
