Oh Dear

In the little town of Foxtail are two best friend named Sammy Austin and Max Orion. Sammy and Max are the best of friends, having been friends since the day they were born in the local hospital, Saint Flufferia. The two were inseparable, you couldn't get Sammy to go anywhere without Max and Max without Sammy. If you did manage to pry the two cubs apart just be warned that your trip will be ruined. The two didn't even like living in two different houses and both tended to sleep at each others house everyday. It was ridiculous yet extremely adorable when you think about the two's bond. Heck, the two families we're even playing with the idea of moving in together. Though of course they would never go threw with it. After all it was just a little friendship between two five years old, or so people thought.

To Sammy and Max their relationship was beyond friends. The two loved each other a lot. At first the two thought they loved each others as brothers, but then realized that brothers didn't want to give each other kisses, or cuddle in the same bed. Brothers didn't think about marrying each other when they got older. Yes, though very young and with little understanding of love the two thought ahead. They didn't care if they were too young to understand, they just knew and knew that no one could stop them. So far no one has, but thats because everyone else around them was oblivious of how the two felt for each other. That is until one day...

On a on a hot summer afternoon, both Max and Sammy were up in Sammy's room playing with the new xelle gaming station. Sammy was playing Max's new game while Max happily watched beside his friend as they sat up against the bed. Max stared at the tv screen in a daze, not at all paying attention to the game or the fact that his friend was talking to him. No, Max mind was on other things.

Today the two five year old had learned something at park from one of the other kids. A seven year old girl by the name of Jenny Lakins, boasted about knowing where babies come from. A popular topic of gossip in every preschool to fifth grade class in Wonderhill elementary school, which is where all the younger kids in Foxtail attended until they got to the sixth grade and ended Foxtail Junior high school. Where they Jenny had said that her older sister had finally revealed the secret to which many mommies and daddies like to hide from the young cubs. Max could not get it out of his head.

" Hey Max are you even paying attention?" Sammy shouted, snapping Max out of his thoughts.

Max looked at his friend with wide eyes "W-what, what's going on?"

Sammy ears went back as he frowned "So you haven't been listening to me this whole time."

Max smiled sheepishly, his ears drooping in embarrassment "I'm sorry Sammy...I was just thinking about something."

Sammy ears perked "Is is something important?" he asked already forgetting that he was suppose to be mad at his friend for ignoring him.

Max head tilted "Well...I don't really know. No wait, yeah its very important."

Sammy paused the game and leaned closer "So..?"

"So..?"

Sammy frowned "So what were you thinking about?" he snapped.

"Oh! Well...remember what Jenny Lakins said today during recess?"

Sammy thought back to today at recess "Yeah, what about it?"

"Well, you remember how she said that babies were born when a mommy and daddy loved each other very much and then nine months later a baby will go inside the mommy's tummy?"

"Yeah..."

"Well, I wouldnt that..." Max began to trail off.

"Wouldn't it mean what Max?"

Max looked at his friend worriedly, should he tell his friend or not. He didn't want to but knew that he would have to "Well wouldn't that mean that you got me pregnant?"

Sammy's eyes widen in shock "W-what?!"

Max ears drooped and tears began to form "W-well you love me right?"

Sammy frowned "Of course I love you, you know I love you more than my entire battle monsters collection!"

Max gave a little smile at that, because Sammy treasured his battle monster collection. Other than Max, Sammy loved anything related to the popular television show. It was good to know that Sammy loved him more than his collection. But then the fear crept back at the realization that Sammy loved him more than that just confirmed it. He was most likely to become a mommy. It was obvious he would be the mommy, because Sammy was more boyish than him according to his older brother Nathan. While Sammy played with action figures, loved to wrestle in the mud and was just obnoxious and boisterous as all the other boys in their town. Max was an angel and all the moms in Foxtail knew it. Max never did anything bad, he always helped his mother out in the kitchen and liked to have tea parties often inviting the other girls in the neighborhood to a tea party. Max often invited Sammy but the other boy tended to get bored by the third time he was asked if he wanted a cup of imaginary tea and would start pulling pranks on Max's guest. But all in all, Max knew he was the mommy the thought of sammy being a mommy was just weird and slightly scary.

The two boys sat in silence, both thinking at once about what they should do next. Sammy hadn't a clue, truth be told he was still mulling over the fact that he was going to be a daddy and probably the youngest daddy in the history of daddies. Max on the other hand knew exactly what Sammy had to do. He remember hearing it on one of his mother's favorite television drama that they both watched during the afternoon. Yup now that he was a mommy and Sammy a daddy, Sammy was going to have to make an honest woman out of him. Though he didn't know how Sammy could make an honest woman out of him, he was already honest. He knew that because his gran-gran would often say that he was very honest young lad. But, since he was now a mommy he had to be even more honest.

He turned to his best friend with a very determined glare "Sammy, you have to make an honest woman out of me!" he declared.

Sammy snapped out his thought and at his friend in confusion "an honest woman? How much more honest do you have to get?" Sammy snorted.

Max shrugged his shoulders "Don't know but, you gotta do it or else."

"Or else what?"

"Or else my daddy will come after you with a shotgun like in The Vixen's Tale."

Sammy swallowed, he didn't want to be chased by Max's dad. The man was a giant grizzly bear, literally. "Okay I'll make you into an honest woman, but how do I do that?"

"Well in the Vixen's Tale, Scotty had to go out and buy a ring for Angela in order to make her a honest woman."

Sammy nodded "A ring huh..." sammy got up and went over to his dresser. On one side was all of his clothes on the other was Max's. Sammy went into the bottom drawer and took out a blue case. Inside the case was a silver ring with some words written in latin. His grandpa on his mother's side gave it to him before he went with the angels. It was an old ring, handed down to every man within the Austin family since the time when cars were only horses and carriages.

Sammy came back over to Max and opened up the case to reveal the ring "Does this ring count?"

Max took the ring from out of the box and put it on his ring finger. The ring unfortunately was too big and would on slip off, so he put in on his thumb which it just barely fits on "This should do, now the next step is to marry me. But it has to be a romantic dinner at a resturaunt."

Sammy scratched his head "I don't know if my parents will take us to Whippy tail's today, can't you just stay for dinner here and call it romantic?"

Max thought about it, it wasn't how it went in the show. But, in the episode after Scotty took Angela to the restaurant he introduced her to his parents. I guess they could fuse the steps together "Okay, but you have to have candles. Candles are always romantic."

Sammy smiled "We have candles, mama collects a lot of candles for when she wants the house to smell flowers."

"Then we need those candles, I'd like it to be the cherry rose scented ones please. Now when dinner comes you have to pop the big question."

"What's the big question?"

Max scowled "You're going to ask me to marry you, you big dummy. And don't forget to get on one knee in front of me and take the ring out! Oh, you also have to tap your glass with the fork and say 'I have a big announcement' before all that too, Okay.?"

"I'm not a dummy..." Sammy muttered.

Max rolled his eyes and grabbed Sammy by his fluffy wolf ear and tugged them over and shouted "Okay?!" into them.

Max released the other boys ears. Sammy whimpered and rubbed his ear "Ow, that really hurt" he said with a pout.

Max rolled his eyes again and gave his best friend a quick peck on the lips to comfort him "Stop being a big baby and get everything ready, it's almost supper."

Sammy smirked "Can I get another kiss before I do?"

Max crossed his arms over his chest and glared at his friend "Yeah I'll give you a kiss, I kiss you with my fist you butt, and get going or you'll sleep on the couch tonight and I'll never give you a kiss again ."

Sammy pouted "Yes, dear" he said before slowly getting and up and heading out of the room to make sure his mom put candles out for dinner tonight and also to tell her that Max was sleeping over (though she probably knew that last part already.)

Several hours later, the family was sitting down for dinner. Sammy's mama had prepared lasagne, baked potatoes, green beans and white rice for supper and a cherry pie for dessert. His mama also set out candles for dinner tonight, Sammy's request. The vixen wonder why her son had requested it, he didn't particularly liked the nice smelling candles she bought to drown out the smell that came with living of four rambunctious boys. Her husband being the third, not so much Max. Though Max wasn't her son, she felt like he was because of how often he was over her house. Three days a week truth be told. It never bother her, it bother none of the adults because they found the boys relationship to be adorable. The vixen had never seen such a friendship before, especially with kids so young. At times she wondered if the two would be more than just friends in the future. Both parents in the two families often discussed it, and decided to accept it if it was true. They didn't dare want to put a rain on the boy's parade especially if it made them happy. But that was thinking too far ahead. The boys were still young and there was enough time to think about this stuff later when the two were older. Or at least she thought they were too young.

Few minutes into dinner, a loud tapping sound came from Sammy's plastic cup. Sammy's parents, two older brothers and Max glanced his way "I have an annou- annnounc? Um..."

Max rolled his eyes "Announcement!"

Sammy smirked "Yeah an Annouciment." Max face came into contact his hand, at his friend mispronouncement of the word, but decided to let it go.

The two parents glanced at each other before looking back over to their son "Alright, what is it son?" Sammy's father said.

Sammy came out of his chair and walked over to Max. He got on one knee and took out the ring "Will you Maxwell Jonathan Orion, take me Samuel Christopher Austin as your ...um...what's the word?"

"I think it of loafy like loaf of bread" Max said.

"Oh right take me as your loaf of bread-"

"Close enough I guess."

"Whatever," Sammy snorted "Take me as your loaf of bread husband?"

"Oh why Samuel that is a very big question. I need a second to think about it, hmmm...." Max hummed.

Sammy frowned "Oh come on, do you really need to think about it?"

Max glared "Of course, if I say yes right away you're mother will think I'm a gold digger, just like Scotty's mom."

Sammy nose scrunched up "But, we don't have any gold though."

" I think a leprechaun brings it after we get married."

"Does that mean you're saying yes?"

"Of course silly I love you, I'd be dumb to say no."

"Oh good cuz I thought you we're getting second thoughts..."

"Nope, not put the ring on me already before were gray and old and unmarried with a baby" Max said thrusting out his hand.

"Alright just-"

"-Excused me but what in the world is going on?" Sammy's older brother Kyle asked, shocked at the little scene the two cubs were having.

Sammy and Max turned to face to family. Everyone was staring in astonishment at the little display, though now slowly getting out of their stupor moments after Kyle spoke.

Sammy got up from off his knee " Well I'm going to Marry Max" he said simply.

His mother blinked "B-but why?"

"Cuz he got me pregnant" Max announced happily.

Their mouths fell "What?!" they shouted in unison.

Max rolled his eyes, jeez old people needed to listen "He got me-"

"No, no please don't say it again" Sammy's father said holding his hand to his chest. He knew it wasn't possible for Max to get pregnant, but the idea of them doing...well, that at a young age was just....Where would they even learn how to even do that?

"Um...Max honey why do you think you're pregnant?" Sammy's mother asked.

Max frowned "I don't think I'm pregnant, I know I am. See we both learned about how babies are born from when we went to the park. So thats how I know" Max said proudly.

Sammy's mother gave a small smile before fainting in her chair. Alex, Sammy's other older brother and Kyle's twin, rushed over to their mother and began to fan her face.

Sammy's father coughed "Um boys, what exactly do you know about how babies are born?"

"Don't you know, after all you have three sons!" Max said.

Sammy's father swallowed "Um yes I know, but I want to make sure you we're told the proper information. After all how do you know if this person was right. I mean was it an adult who told you this?"

Max head tilted "Well its wasn't an adult but was Jenny Lakins who told us, who learned from her older sister Olivia."

Sammy's father relaxed a little, he knew the Lakins very well, since he worked with Oscar Lakin. Olivia Lakin was only nine and Jenny even younger. Of course the Lakins would never tell their daughter the truth, they were catholics and extremely devoted to their religion. Just bringing up a sexualized joke to Oscar was just too much for the little Catholic duck to handle. So whatever the boys heard couldn't have been anywhere near the truth, or at least he hoped so.

"Well, what did Jenny Lakins tell you?"

"Well, Jenny said that when a mommy and daddy loved each other very much the mommy will get a baby in their tummy."

Sammy's father nodded slowly, rubbing his hand along his jaw "and do you and Sammy love each other very much?"

"Yes!" both boys said at the same time.

"I see...so who's the mommy?"

Sammy pointed to Max and Max pointed to himself "I'm the mommy and Sammy's the daddy. Sammy can't be a mommy because he too much of a boy to be one. But, I know he'll be a good daddy because he's going to make an honest woman out of me. Even though I'm already honest, but apparently I have to be even more honest when I have to become a wife."

Sammy's father chuckled "Oh boys, you both are just so innocent its absolutely adorable."

Both Max and Sammy were very confused. Why did Sammy's dad laugh at them? Didn't he know how serious this was?

In the meanwhile Alex had finally gotten his mother awake and off the ground.

"Oh, what happened... all I remember is Sammy proposing to Max and then Max saying he was...he was pregnant" Sammy's mother said.

Sammy's father laughed "Oh darling it was just a misunderstanding."

"How is this a missunder...a miss thunder..." Sammy trailed off again, looking at Max for help.

But, Max was not looking at Sammy but at Sammy's father "How is this all a misunderstanding? Its seems pretty clear to me what's going on."

"Oh boys you have been misinformed, you see there is just more to just a mommy and daddy loving each other in order to make a baby happen."

Sammy and Max looked at each other before turning back to Sammy's father "Like what" Sammy asked.

Sammy's fathers gulped "Um well..."

"One of you has to be a girl" Kyle said.

Both boys nose scrunched up in disgust "I don't like girls!" They both said.

This caused Sammy's father to laugh "Well I could see that, but its true one of you has to be a girl in order to have a baby."

Both boys thought about and realized it made sense since all mommies were usually girls and daddies all boys. The boys frowned in disappointment because they had really thought they were going to have a baby together. But, if they needed a girl in order to have kids would that mean they would never have kids, or even worse never get married? After all neither of them saw two boys married in Foxtail before.

"Don't look so sad boys, you both can still get married and even have kids once your older" Sammy's father said.

"And three years out of colleges" Sammy's mother blurted out.

Now the boys were really, really confused "I thought you said we needed a girl" Sammy said.

"You can adopt a child, there are lots a kids out there who don't have mommies or daddies, and desperately need love and care. But you have to wait til you're older in order to do that. Plus two guys can get married and adopt in this state so you two don't have to worry as long as the law stays the same" Alex explained.

"Ohh..." the boys said in awe.

"But can I still be married to Max?" Sammy asked.

Everyone including Max was surprised at Sammy's question. "You still want to get married to me, even though I don't have a baby in my tummy?"

"Of course, I still love you. Don't you?"

"I'll always love you!"

"Then its settle we're getting married!" Sammy declared.

"You can be engaged, but you won't be getting married until at least after junior high school or college" His mother said sternly.

"I can wait, as long as I'm with Max I can wait forever!"

"Oh no please don't let it be forever, I couldn't stand to wait forever. Just after Junior high school okay?" Max said

Sammy laughed "Okay, its a deal" and to seal that deal both boys gave each other a kiss.

Sammy's mother awed "They're just so cute, I can't wait to tell Carol and Jack!"

"I can't wait to tell Nathan, he's going to have a ball" Kyle said taking out his cellphone to text his best friend about the events that just took place during dinner.

"Well I think this calls for pie, who's ready for dessert?" Sammy's mom announced getting up from the table, a chorus of me's following afterwards.

Its was now after lights out and both Sammy and Max were in bed. Sammy was asleep, but Max was still awake the excitement of being engaged keeping him up. He turned around and began poking Sammy in the back "Sammy wake up" he whispered.

Sammy groaned "Yeah?" he said tiredly.

"Did you really mean it when you said you're going to marry me after we finish the twelfth grade" Max asked.

Sammy turned around and stared back at his friend "Of course I did, why do you ask?"

Max thought about it "Well...because thats a long, long time and what if you like somebody else. Or what if we get separated and never see each other again..." Max said sadly.

"Then I'll call you everyday, afternoon and before bed and when I get a cellphone I'll text you too. Also every holiday we'll visit each other no matter what and we'll never ever look at anyone else the way we feel for each other."

Max nodded, but he still had his doubts. Sammy saw the look in Max's eyes and decided to reassure his now fiance by cuddling with him "it will work you'll see, and if anything bad does happen like that then we'll just try our hardest to stay in love. No matter what, I promise I will never leave you." Sammy whispered determinedly.

Max clung onto Sammy, nuzzling his head into his chest "I believe you...I'm sorry I doubted us."

"Its okay, but remember there nothing to worry about. Now lets get some sleep, I don't know about you but I'm itching for my mama's waffles tomorrow."

Max giggled at that, knowing how much Sammy loved to eat food, especially his mother's cooking "Okay..."

The two boys laid in each others arms in silence for a while.

"I love you, Sammy" Max said.

"I love you too, Max. Now go to sleep, I'm very tired..." the other boy said tiredly.

Max giggled again before finally closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep. His dreams filled up with the future, and of the day he and Sammy's wedding day.
