#4 of Bonfire Blues

Sorry it's been so long between chapters :/

I've just been busy with stuff and haven't had the time/energy/motivation to write regularly. But, here's the next chapter! Yay.

You'll probably notice this one isn't as well written and has more errors, I apologize. The super helpful person who was editing/proofreading my work is currently dealing with a VERY busy/shitty schedule and I decided not to trouble him with some pithy offerings to work on. Anyway if you spot anything let me know and I'll apologize to you personally! "Till then please accept this blanket apology in advance ^.^

As always enjoy and let me know what you think!! <3

"He's a good kid, he's just really frightened and probably very angry."

Jacob slowly felt himself drifting out of sleep. He heard voices just a few feet from him. Not wishing to eavesdrop, but not wanting to interrupt either he decided to stay quiet and ignore the conversation. He told himself that if it got too personal he would use the "just waking up" act to interrupt it and not hear anything not intended for him to hear.> Jacob hated to eavesdrop on a friend, but he doubted the conversation would last long, Radcliffe was a busy cat after all.

It was odd though...how quickly he had come to think of Radcliffe as a friend.> Ever since the night that Radcliffe had pulled him out that hopeless sea of anger and hate he had let himself become, he grown so close to Radcliffe he felt more love for that cat than any of his old school friends. It wasn't all that hard to see why either. His school "friends" had all stopped visiting after the first day or two, most of them just offering a halting condolence then making a beeline for the nearest exit. Radcliffe had stayed by his side night and day, letting him cry on him, allowing Jacob to share his darkest fears and worst misgivings about life as a blind man, and Radcliffe had held his paw through it all. Yes, Jacob thought, even if we've only known each other for several days, he's the closest friend I've ever had.> "You think he's going to adjust?" A voice broke Jacob out of his reverie. It was a new voice, Jacob had never heard it before. It was powerful, a deep, strong voice that commanded respect without being loud or obnoxious about it. Jacob guessed it belonged to a man who was very large and was used to getting what he wanted.> "He's a tough guy, I think he's got a very bright future, if he chooses to see it that way." That was Radcliffe, the cat's Tenor voice sounded slightly different from what Jacob was used to. He sounded a little more...relaxed? Though Radcliffe always carried himself with a calm demeanor, he seemed to have reached a whole new level of chill. He almost sounded...coy?> "Well, I wish him the best. High School is tough, especially for kids who stand out like that." There was a sound of clothes rustling together as the two people moved.> "I'll see you later, hun. I love you." Jacob was suddenly alert. Had there been a female in the room he wasn't aware of? He had hoped he had gotten good at telling how many people were in a room without being able to see. His confusion was soon resolved as the other voice, a male...voice, responded.> "I love you too, Rad. I'll see you tonight." There was a quite smacking sound, which Jacob figured could only be a kiss, and then someone left the room.> Radcliffe was gay?! Oddly enough, this revelation didn't weird Jacob out nearly as much as he would have figured. If he had been at school, he would have reacted with the expected disgust and hatefulness as would have been expected, but here, now, he just didn't feel...grossed out even. So what? He asked himself. He's gay, big deal. He's a good guy, and he had done so much for Jacob, it seemed almost petty to hate him for something so...meaningless. > The sound of Radcliffe approaching brought Jacob out of his reverie and he focused on trying to look like he was asleep. Radcliffe went about his normal routine of checking his charts and various other statistics, quietly making sure all of Jacobs vitals were normal. > "You know, it's not very polite to eavesdrop on other people while pretending to be asleep."> Jacob started and shot up into a sitting position without thinking, then immediately regretted it as the freshly healed cuts and scabs stretched. Wincing, he laid back down defeated and looked apologetically at Radcliffe. > Radcliffe just chuckled and gently adjusted a bandage that Jacob had thrown askew when he had jolted upright.> "So....you're not mad?"> "Mad? No. I wasn't really planning on 'coming out' to you as it were, but no harm done, right?" > Jacob chuckled awkwardly. > "So I didn't just imagine you guys kissing...did I?"> He heard Radcliffe snigger.> "Nope! I'm one hundred percent gay, not a straight bone in this fabulous body!" Jacob couldn't help but burst out laughing at Radcliffe's proud declaration of homosexuality. It was the first time he had really been able to laugh sense waking up after the accident and he relished the feeling, his sides heaving with full, unrestrained guffaws. After a few seconds of hearty laughter between the two and Jacob finally got his guffaws to subside to giggles, he started to wonder what had gotten the male nurse into such a good mood. > "What's gotten' into you?" He asked the still chuckling cat. Radcliffe calmed his laughter and patted his shoulder reassuringly. > "Oh, it's always a bit of a rush, coming out to someone new...but the REAL reason I'm excited is that I've thought of something for you to do that I'll think you'll enjoy!"> Jacob cocked his head quizzically, wondering what the cat could have up his sleeve. "And what might that be?"> "You'll just have to come and find out!" Radcliffe exclaimed and gently pulled him up from the hospital bed and led him out of the room.
