Chapter 2

Power Revealed

The Dragon Years have passed since Raz and Maz Drakken were hatched along with the other one hundred twenty eggs that in the Nursery. Today is also the tenth dragon-versery that Miles and Sarah found out they had twins and that one of them (Raz) was destined to be the next King of The Dragon World.

With so many things that have life, there comes a time to celebrate and to rejoice being alive with today being no different. The suns were high in the sky as the wind made a turn and started coming in from the south-western region, which made the day even warmer as dragons all over The Supreme Region were taking advantage of the weather and went swimming in The Great Ocean.

The beach was crowded with dragons that were here with their families

enjoying themselves and far off the beaten path was a private part of the beach where all the Governors and the King have come to enjoy the nice weather. Sea birds floated on the wind as they made their cries, and looked for scrapes of food.

There was a mountainous range from the Earth Region that ran off into the ocean. The sand was white with a few bits of grass poking out here and there. A canopy was set up by a sand dune with Miles and Sarah, who were cooking the meat for lunch; Aria Whirlwind and Lindacego were taking care of the Hatch-day cake that was for the five who were hatched.

Aria stood two dragon inches short of a dragon's length with her wings being the same and gray running from her lower jawline down her front. Also, she had two dragon inch horns that went straight up with three one inch horns on the back of the jaw. She wore a light purple summer dress with a bathing suit underneath that was a dark purple. Lindacego was a dragon's length high with gray wings the same length as his back scales were white and front scales were black that ran from his jaw all the way down. He had a light shirt on with cut off trousers for swimming.

Reed and Rena Earthbond, who stood the same height at a dragon's length and two dragon feet, but Rena's horns were a bit smaller in the ram-shaped they always been and her tail was two dragon inches shorter then Reed's. His tail was three-quarters of a dragon's length and they were making the drinks out of some plants they had brought from the Earth Region. Reed wore his cut off shorts with no shirt as Rena had her bathing suit on that matched her husbands which was yellow.

Breeze and Stephanie Stillwater were sitting together, using their ice breath to keep themselves cool. Breeze stood three-quarters and two dragon inches of a dragon's length tall with half a dragon's length long tail that mindlessly swayed. His wings were the same length as his body that were light blue and wore gray shorts without a shirt also. Stephanie was three-quarters of a dragon's length tall with her wing span being the same and was light gray, which accented her white front scales along her blue back scales. Her tail was half a dragon's length and wore a pink bathing suit as two horns on either side had three little horns that come up to form two dragon inch horns.

They all were having a good time conversing as King Zallerferd wore a light tunic that was colored white and wore equally light swim shorts as he was laying on his drying cloth, enjoying the warm air as he took advantage of the time off and snoozed away as his guard, Hector, kept watch over them from a distance.

Raz and Maz Drakken were sitting together far out between the canopy and the ocean, building a sand castle, except every time they built a wall, Maz would breath fire and it would turn to glass.

"Maz, this is supposed to be a sand castle, not a glass castle." Raz said as Maz just smiled. Raz looked up shaking his head and looked over at the ocean were a short young water dragon was practicing his water techniques. He had water raised up in bubble form as he froze it and with his tail, broke it into many pieces. He was called Buckner and wore red swim shorts with dark blue scales on his back and white on the front.

"He practices too much." Raz thought as he looks over by the rocks to see Rocky, who was taller than his friends by a dragon's foot with his ram-shaped horns that were black as he crouched down by a little pool of water, looking for little fish and clams that he found interesting. His tail swished side by side in a moderate speed as he adjusted his yellow shorts, and then kept looking. He was green on his back and tan on his front.

Raz smiled as he looked the other way and saw Kyle Whirlwind lying on the sand with his purple shorts on as he sun bathed. The beach was so white that the only thing that made him visible was the shorts and the gray on his front. His wings were spread out so they could, also get some sun.

Raz looked back to the sand or glass castle and thought, "This is boring. I wish I could go exploring."

Raz looked around again and noticed a small hole at the side of the mountain and thought to himself again, "Hmm, there is my next adventure and I bet there is treasure."

Maz noticed Raz and looked up from their project and asked, "What are you thinking about doing?"

Raz returned to the present and smiled as he replied, "I just noticed an opening in the side of that mountain over there, where the water comes to the edge. I want to go explore it, because it might have treasure."

Maz laughed a little and replied, "You do really believe that do you?"

Raz turned to him and smiled as he said, "Only one way to find out."

Maz thought this over and said, "You have a point. I'm going with you, but maybe we should ask the others if they want to go, too. Lunch is two hours away, so we have time. Raz thought this over for a few minutes and nodded. He got up and called for their friends to come over.

Buckner just signed, because he knew that Raz was up to something, but would always let his curiosity get the better of him. Kyle was really enjoying his sun bathing, but knew when Raz and Maz were doing something, it was always entertaining. Rocky gave a half-hearted shrug, because he got used to following Raz and Maz on their adventures.

Once everyone was gathered around Raz spoke, "Okay guys. I called you over here, because Maz and I are going to explore that cave over there."

Raz pointed his talon finger over in the direction of the mountain range.

"I was wondering if you guys wanted to tag along." Raz asked as the others looked at each other for a moment. Then Buckner chimed in, "Raz, you know what our parents said about keeping within sight."

Raz just waved him off and replied, "Oh, do not worry so much. It is just a cave and besides, you're not scared of the dark, are you?"

Buckner immediately replied with, "NO!"

Raz just smiled and asked, "Then what is the problem?"

Rocky was smiling as he said, "I am in. Sounds like fun."

Then Kyle nodded his head as he always did and smiled as Raz stood up and replied, "Alright then. Let us go."

Buckner was completely stunned as he stood there for a moment before Maz called back, "Hey, Buckner! Are you coming?"

Buckner thought to himself, "Oh, this is a bad idea."

"Yes, I am coming!" Buckner yelled as he ran to catch up with them.

"I still think this is a bad idea." Buckner said as Raz looked back and said, "Pipe down, already!"

Raz thought to himself as they reached the entrance of a cave, "He needs to loosen up. He is so uptight." Raz entered the cave and found he could only see where the light hit and saw some stalagmites standing here and there. As they walked deeper into the cave, the darkness grew and all they could hear was water dripping and their own breathing.

Finally, Buckner could not stand the darkness anymore, "Raz, we need some light if we are going to explore this cave." Buckner said as he thought, "There! I did not show him I was afraid. I love my intellectual mind." Raz just smiled, because he knew, but did not say anything as he readied himself. "Okay guys. Give me some room and watch the master of fire." Raz said as blew out a little more fire then he intended.

"Hey! Watch what you're doing. You almost caught my tail on fire." Buckner said as the others laughed.

"Yeah, what was that about being the master of fire, Raz?" Rocky asked as Raz just shrugged as he replied, "Well, I got it lit and that's the important thing."

The others continued to chuckle as they looked to see the ceiling of this vast cave and these winged creatures came flying down on them as they all ducked.

"I told you this was a bad idea!" Buckner said as he dusted himself off then looked up and saw the shadow of something huge.

"Uh, guys, I think there is something over there and I do not think it is friendly." Buckner said as he pointed to his right and which made everyone look. Raz held the light in front of him and found that it was a statue of some strange looking creature. The head looked to be a misshaped upside down triangle with a broad body that was round at the waist with semi-muscular arms and legs as he stood on a pedestal.

"What is that?" Kyle asked as Raz looked at the statue and knew he had seen that before in a book somewhere, but could not remember.

"I am not sure, but it's alright. It is only a statue." Raz said as the others shrugged and followed Raz except for Buckner as he stood there, looking at the statue. Buckner noticed that the area grew darker and looked to see Raz and the other had already moved on.

"Hey! Wait for me!" Buckner yelled as he ran forward, trying to follow the dim glow, but stumbled in the dark.

Now what?" Buckner thought to himself as he picked himself up and continued to what he thought was the right way. Buckner finally came to a part of the cave that was semi-lit by daylight and made his way better. "Why are they always leaving me behind? I mean, I try to keep them out of trouble by reminding them of the rules, but I always let my curiosity get the better of me. Ice cubes!" Buckner thought as he continued down the tunnel and eventually came to a fork in the road.

Buckner asked himself and took a guess then went to the right, not knowing the rest of them went to the left.

It got dark again as Buckner slowly and carefully walked down the long tunnel with only the smell of dirt to keep him company. Buckner was beginning to lose hope, but then looked up and noticed a dim glow of light at the far end of the cave.

"Oh finally. Hey! Raz! Maz! Rocky! Kyle! I am here!" Buckner yelled, but heard no reply and started running towards the light. He turned a corner and stopped dead in his tracks as he gasped at what he saw, because before him laid a vast cavern that had some kind of writing on the walls that was not in the familiar Dragon writing Buckner was studying.

At the center of the wall appeared to be an altar, with two fire pans on either side, sitting on posts that were colored black. At the entrance of the were statues that looked the same as the one Buckner saw earlier, and passed by them without any thought as one of the statue's eyes opened to reveal a red glow about them.

Buckner walked over to the wall to get a better look at the writing, but still could not make it out yet.

"Oh, this writing is beyond me and must be on a high level. If I had to guess, this is beyond upper level years of higher learning." Buckner thought as he was absolutely amazed.

Raz, Maz, Rocky, and Kyle were walking along the other tunnel and came

to a dead end with a statue that looked very different from the statue they saw earlier.

"Hey Raz, What is this here?" Maz asked as Raz came over and looked close at the statue. The statue was a dragon's length high, but looked different, because it had hair coming from its head and had wings that were spread out as it wore what looked to be a waist length coat over a cut-sleeve shirt with strange kind of pants with strange foot ware that came up to the middle of the figures legs.

Raz read the writing that he had been learning to read with his sessions with the King and as he read, Raz suddenly got a sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach as he slowly backed away from the statue.

"Raz, what is wrong?" Maz asked as the others looked at him curiously. "Guys, we need to get out of here, now!" Raz exclaimed as the others jumped.

"Wait, but why?" Kyle asked as Raz shook his head and thought, "I knew I recognized that statue and if I am right, we are in big trouble."

"No time to explain. We must go." Raz said as he turned around and noticed someone was missing.

"Buckner! Has anyone seen Buckner?" Raz asked as the others looked around and saw no sign of Buckner.

We have to find him quickly." Raz said as they ran back up the tunnel.

Buckner was still looking at the writing on the wall, when he heard something behind him move. Suddenly, he jumped out of the way as a giant hand of a statue smashed a hole in the wall. Buckner rolled back to his feet in a fighting stance his father taught him.

Buckner thought for a moment, "I do not have enough water to make any use of my ice techniques, but I might just have enough to make my water whip."

Buckner blew out hot boiling water from his maw and formed it into a water whip then stood at the ready. The statue threw another punch, but Buckner jumped above it and landed on its arm, then ran up the arm and as hard as he could; cracked the whip across the face of the statue and landed back on the ground as the statue covered his face. Buckner looked intensely at it.

"Did it work?" Buckner asked as the creature removed his hand to reveal a little scratch on the left cheek.

"No way, what do I have to do? I must try my ice or I am doomed." Buckner exclaimed as he started to concentrate and freeze his water whip with his breath, but the statue was not going to give him time. It launched another attack that caused Buckner to lose his concentration as he moved, but was side swiped by rocks that left cuts on his legs and arms. He fell to the ground as pain rushed through his body and looked up to see the statue preparing to launch another attack. Suddenly, a huge fireball about half the size of the statue struck its back and started to topple forward onto Buckner, who was saved at the last minute by Kyle. Kyle brought him to the rest of the group as the statue came crashing to the ground.

Raz and Maz both still hand their hands pointed forward with the palms facing the same direction as they panted.

"Are you okay, Buckner?" Raz asked as Buckner nodded.

"Yes, now let's get out of here!" Buckner said as he tried to get up, but fell back down as he winced in pain.

"Buckner! Are you okay?" Maz yelled as Buckner looked at his ankle and saw that it was twisted to the right.

"I think my ankle's broken." Buckner said as Raz thought, "This is my entire fault. I should not have led them down here and now one of my friends is hurt. I must get us out of here!"

Rocky said as he picked up Buckner and looked at Raz who gave them the go ahead.

"Come on, Raz. We must go!" Maz said as Raz turned to run and noticed the statue was moving again.

"RUN!!!!" Raz yelled as they all ran back up the tunnel for their lives, and then noticed two more statues were blocking their way.

"Raz, we are trapped! What do we do now?" Kyle yelled as Buckner passed out from the ankle that was bleeding heavily. Rocky sat him down next to a rock and got up to battle. Rocky punched his hand through the ground and pulled out a stone mace. He then concentrated as roots came up and tangled their feet as he charged.

"ROCKY, NOOO!!!" Raz yelled as the creatures broke through the roots and smacked Rocky away with one swing as he went flying back into the side of the cave wall which caused some rocks to start falling. "Maz, look out!" Raz yelled as Maz jumped out of the way, but hit his head on a rock which knocked him out and Raz had tears flowing from his eyes, because he knew that this was his fault and felt he had to fix it somehow.

"Raz, what should we do?" Kyle asked as he dodged a rock as the cave stopped for a moment.

"There is only one way, and that way is to fight!" Raz exclaimed as he blew out a lot of fire as he thought, "Please work." He whirled the fire around and formed it into a single edged fire sword and as he swung, it made a loud crack as heat was seen coming off of it.

"You guys are history." Raz said as the first statue launched a punch that Raz dodged easily and with a loud crack, Raz cut off the statues hand as it screamed in pain. Raz ran forward and with another loud crack, he cut off the creature's right leg which made creature fall over.

Raz made to turn, but was smacked across the room by the other statue as he landed beside Maz in a piled heap. Raz struggled to get up and looked at Rocky, then at Buckner, and finally at Maz.

"No! I cannot let this happen! I cannot!" Raz yelled as he stood up and started to glow white and suddenly, everything stopped as Raz looked around and saw nothing was moving except him.

"What is this?" Raz asked as he started to feel power course through his body and blew out more fire and reformed his fire sword. Then with several loud cracks, the statues were all in pieces as everything returned to normal and Raz fall to his knees, but heard something behind him. He looked to see the statue that he knocked over before, towering over him.

"This is it. I have no more energy." Raz thought as he closed his eyes, expecting the end. Suddenly, the air got cold as Raz could see his breath and looked up in time to see King Zallerferd coming down on top of the frozen statue's head with an axle kick that shattered it into pieces. Raz finally, passed out from the lack of energy.

Raz slowly woke up to the sound of the ocean and seagulls as he made to sit up, but found he could not move. He looked around to see his brother and his friends lying next to him except for Kyle, who was talking to the King; telling him the whole story and being lectured by his parents.

Raz looked down and noticed he was on a stretcher made of wood and

leaves that Reed Earthbond made for those who were hurt. Sarah looked up from her potion making to see Raz awake and looking around.

Thank goodness!" Sarah exclaimed as she knelt down beside him as the other parents looked over.

King Zallerferd put a hand on Kyle's shoulder as he walked over to Raz. "Nice to see you awake. How are you feeling?" King Zallerferd asked as Raz thought for a moment, and then answered, "I feel tired. How is everyone else?" "They are in stable condition, but I must ask you why you were in that cave?" The King asked as Raz looked up at the sky to see the orange as the suns were starting to set and took a moment to collect his thoughts.

"Maz and I were building our sand castle when I saw an opening in the side of the mountain I did not notice when we first arrived here. Maybe the tide was hiding it, I do not know for certain, but what I do know is that I wanted explore it. However, I did not want to leave my friends and my brother out on the chance of buried treasure. So, I called them over and told them that I was going to do and they were all for it. I had no idea this cave was...well, you know.

Anyway, I take full responsibility for what happened and I ask that you not punish them." Raz said as the King thought for a moment, "He must be referring to one of the barriers Michael put up to protect this world from The Darkness and the cave did not appear by accident. The Darkness is starting to eat through the barrier, and the cave, I believe was a neutral point between this world and The Dark Realm."

"Well, I will say your mother has grounded you for two weeks and I will have you clean The Throne room for that entire two weeks to give some time to think over you actions." King Zallerferd said as he turned to go, but Raz grabbed his arm.

"There is something else, Master. Something happened in the cave. I somehow made everything stop and when everything moved again, the creatures were all in pieces. I believe I was glowing white. What is happening to me?" Raz asked as King Zallerferd smiled and replied, "You have found your unique power, and I believe it is speed or it could be time ability. I am not sure just yet, but we will discuss this tomorrow. For now, you need to go home and get some sleep."

Raz just laid his head back down on the stretcher as King Zallerferd nodded to everyone as he and his guards spread their wings and took flight. Raz was left with his thoughts, "I cannot believe I put my friends in danger like that. How can I forgive myself? I just do not know how." Raz closed his eyes and went to sleep once again.
