The runner up prize in my contest for sournote103, this was a really fun story to write and I'm planning on writing up another chapter in the near future.

A normal walk in the park turns into a sprint for his life as Brandon is chased by creatures in the night, after a long chase, when he wakes up he thinks he's alright... except for the unnoticed stitch marks on his arm.

I hope you all enjoy, I would love to hear what you think! ^.^

It was a beautiful night, the moon hanging high in the sky. The stars seemed to swim around it as if in a dance, the world was peaceful as a small breeze blew through the trees ruffling their leaves. The city streets were empty save for an occasional car now and then, the air was warm and smelled of fall as a shadow walked up the city sidewalk.

Brandon sighed happily as he walked under a full moon; it was always his favorite time to take a walk at night. Not only that, but it was a nice warm night as well, a rarity in his little town. The leaves crunched underfoot as he walked down the sidewalk, he could see the lights in people's windows flicking off as he passed by.

The town that Brandon lived in was relatively big, still shadowing in comparison to cities but it was big enough to be marked on maps. That was the way Brandon liked it, he didn't want to live in a clutter fest of people rushing past him all the time and breathing in more car fumes then oxygen. A grin spread across the eighteen year old's face as a burst of excitement passed through him, the clean air filled him with an odd feeling and so he decided to take a detour into the town's park.

Walking through the grass, the plants rustled underfoot but it wasn't enough to pull Brandon out of his peaceful trance. He loved the night, the moon shining down on him brightly, the quietness of the town, the large odd shaped silhouettes sprinting towards him from the woods... "Wait... what the?!" Brandon called out in confusion as he watched a squadron of creatures sprinted at him, "Oh my god..."

Not even taking another moment to look at what was chasing him, Brandon turned a one eighty and sprinted in the other direction. As he ran he heard animal panting behind him, shivering as the weather seemed to turn from a warm temperature to a chillier atmosphere. Tears started to rush out of his eyes as he ran, "Please god... I don't want to be eaten..." He whispered.

As the human ran towards the lake in the middle of the park an idea sparked in his head, "W... what if they can't swim?" A smile spread across his lips as he turned towards the water and he quickly pulled off his shirt, wincing as the chilled air nipped at his skin.

Reaching the edge of the water, he glanced over his shoulder to see the creatures closing the distance that he had fast. "Here goes nothing..." He muttered before turning back towards the water and dived in head first, as he dove into the water the icy grips of the water pulled the air out of his lungs. Brandon surfaced and coughed hard for a moment as he got used to the water but quickly snapped out of it as he remembered the creatures on his trail and started to swim, as his arms paddled in the water he realized how much of a daunting task was in front of him.

He was swimming across a lake that was a good mile across and he had animals waiting on the shore for him, "Oh no..." He chattered as his jaw started to clatter, the water wasn't just cold, it was dangerously cold. Even though it had been warm earlier, the water was known to be cold due to being run into from a river which flowed directly from the mountains. Terror clenched Brandon's heart as he realized what he had put himself into, it was a death situation either way he went. "H... help!" He screamed out, no longer caring what saved him, he was in major danger and he knew it.

"Heeeelp!" He screamed out once more, desperate for any help he could. As Brandon's arms splashed against the cold water, he started to panic and started to struggle and found that he was sinking. "Heeelcough...hack...ppp..." That was when Brandon went under the water, the water's darkness seeming to mute the brightness of the moon that was shining onto the water.

As he sank deeper and deeper into the water, Brandon's eyes burned as water touched his eyes but he wouldn't close them. He wanted the moon to be his last thing to see... as his vision dimmed and the last of the air escaped his lungs, something obscured the moon... it looked like... an otter...

"Br... brand... Brandon... Brandon!" Brandon's head snapped up, colliding with an officer's head. "Ouch!" The officer shouted as he collapsed onto the ground.

Brandon looked to his left and right in fear as he took deep breathes, air had never tasted more sweet to him. The sun was shining bright on the park's dewy grass as people gathered around the pair, Brandon shivered violently as he looked down. His clothes were soggy, like he had taken a dive in the lake... Brandon's eyes flickered to the officer who had stood up and was looking him over, "Brandon, why are you sprawled out on the grass looking like a waterlogged cat?"

Shivering, Brandon sat up and shook his head slowly. Even without the pounding headache from smacking into the officer, he couldn't remember what happened last night. After walking into the park it just kinda... faded away. "I dunno... all I remember is walking and then... nothing."

The officer sighed and smiled, "Well we'd better get you all dry and into some better clothes, I'm surprised you didn't die of hypothermia in your current state."

Brandon didn't say anything though as his teeth were chattering too hard for him to get a coherent sentence out, so he just followed the police officer. As he followed behind, he found that he had an odd itch on his arm. He scratched at the itch, not really paying it too much attention as he walked behind the officer. On his arm, a strange stitch looking mark had appeared.

"Thanks for this George, sorry for the trouble..." Brandon said as he pulled on a jacket given by the officer, smiling at the younger man the police officer shrugged.

"I've known you since you were young bud, I only know too well how much of a handful you can be at times." George grinned and took a healthy drink of coffee.

Stretching, Brandon yawned. "Dang... nearly feezing to death is tiring..." He chuckled before walking to the front door of the police office and smiled back at George, "Thanks again, I'm glad that you saved my life before I died of freezing."

The gruff officer chuckled, "I dunno, I think you're too full of yourself to die that easily... take it easy Brandon." The young man nodded and waved as he walked out of the station, shivering as a cool breeze traveled past him. Something about the cold caused something to flash in his head, something like a snapshot of himself jumping into the water. He felt his legs become like noodles as he sunk to the ground, he grasped his head in pain. "Ow..."

The crispness of the memory sent a chill through Brandon, he felt a feeling of terror from the memory as if... as if he had been in danger...

Brandon slowly stood up, his world shaking briefly before stabilizing. He stumbled down the street, the world twisting around him every now and again. As he walked, he bumped into a another man. As he did, he mumbled an apology. The man caught him by his shoulder, "Are you alright?"

As the world came into focus, Brandon realized that the other guy's face was completely new. "Oh... I'm fine... sorry about that, I don't know what came over me."

The man grinned, his eyes flashing an odd blue color. "It's fine, you'll get used to it."

A feeling of peace rushed through Brandon, "Thanks." He waved goodbye to the man and walked away, as he walked towards home he realized what the odd new comer had said. "I'll get used to it...?"

The day proceeded in a slow fashion; Brandon found that he couldn't stop yawning through the day. He felt oddly exhausted, he knew that he had taken a swim in the freezing water of the lake but something felt off to him, as if he were staying up when he shouldn't. Rubbing his eyes, he flicked through channels on his TV his nose wrinkling as nothing but infomercials came on.

Kicking his feet up, Brandon yawned as he stretched his eyelids becoming heavy as he watched TV. The room started to spin as he began to doze off until a loud knocking on the door made him get him, "Comminng..." Brandon shouted out, his words slurring as he woke up. As he stumbled to the door, he fumbled with the doorknob before pulling the door open. "Wassit...?"

Standing at the door was the young man from earlier that Brandon had bumped into, he was looking away from the door when he turned back and blinked in surprise. "Oh, it's you."

Brandon blinked a few times as he came back to the world of the conscious, "Oh... hi... what's up?"

The man grinned and reached out with his hand to offer a handshake, "Well it just so happens that me and some friends moved into the house next door just a few days ago, I decided that it might be good to introduce myself to our neighbors. Though it looks like we've already met."

Letting out a yawn, Brandon took the strangers hand in his hand and did a lackluster job of shaking it. "Sorry, I don't know why I'm so tired... I'm Brandon."

His new neighbor chuckled, "Well it's nice to meet you Brandon, I'm Otsah."

Cocking his eyebrow, Brandon rubbed his eyes as the last of the sleep flowed out of him. "I'm sorry, did you say Otter?"

Letting out a laugh, Otsah shook his head. "I know they sound similar, but my name is Otsah not Otter. Don't worry a lot of the people I talk to make the same mistake."

Brandon chuckled too; finally awake after the odd bout of sleepiness. "Okay, well since you're here, would you like to come in?"

Otsah smiled and kindly shook his head, "I would love to, but I still have to meet the other neighbors. Thank you for the offer though..."

Something about the fact that the other man made Brandon sad, "Oh... okay..." He scratched his head, as he did so the sleeve of the jacket rolled down a bit to let the stitch marking appear.

Otsah hid a smirk as his eyes flashed a blue color once more, "Well, I'll be seeing you tonight Brandon." As he turned away, Brandon smiled and nodded but stopped as confusion poured through him.

He called out to Otsah, "W... what's happening tonight?" But he received no answer as Otsah turned the corner and disappeared from sight. Confusion and slight excitement started to clench Brandon's stomach, what the excitement was coming from was beyond him but he'd just have to find out later.

Now that Otsah was gone, weariness had crept back into Brandon's body, his movements becoming sluggish as he moved towards the couch. His vision became tunneled as he collapsed onto the couch and passed out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Snores rung through the house, mingling with the noise of the TV as the sun started to hang low in the sky and shined right in on Brandon's face. His snores started to falter as the sun disturb his sleep until he sat up, "Urch... I'm awake..." He muttered to no one.
Now that Brandon was awake, he felt completely rested. It was odd as when he woke up at this hour, he usually was exhausted still. Standing up, Brandon stretched and walked to the kitchen to grab some food. Reaching for the refrigerator handle, he froze as a knock rang through the house. He glanced at the time on his watch, it was almost nine, why was someone visiting him at this time?
Forgetting about his encounter with Otsah earlier, Brandon grumbled in annoyance as he walked to the front door and opened it to reveal Otsah with two other guys on either side of him. Brandon blinked a few times in confusion, "Um... what's up?"
Otsah grinned, "We're bringing you out for a night on the town Brandon."
Brandon frowned, "Sorry Otsah but I really shouldn't, I'm planning on heading to bed soon." He didn't like to lie, but something about the trio felt... off. Especially with as the light started to fade, their eyes seemed to glow with an ominous glow. "Sorry guys, good night."
Letting out a chuckle, Otsah's eyes flashed blue once more though as they did so they stayed a bright blue that didn't seem natural for a human. Brandon started to back away from the door, his anxiety growing. "Sorry to say Brandon, you don't have a choice." He glanced at the two on both sides of him, "Get him."
Brandon attempted to run, but the two quickly grabbed him by his arms and pulled him out his front door. As he was dragged away, Otsah closed the door behind him. Brandon attempted to shout but his mouth was suddenly stuffed with cotton by Otsah, the other man winked. "Can't have you making too much noise, people are sleeping you know."
Glaring at the other man, Brandon continued to struggle but it was no use as he was dragged away.
After sneaking through town, they reached the town's park and walked towards a grove of trees. As Brandon was dragged behind the others, he winced as memories of walking into the park started to flicker. "Oh my god..." He muttered as he remembered the shapes chasing him, the fear clutching his chest and the water...
Otsah led the way, pushing branches out of the way as they made their way into the grove until they reached a small clearing in the center of the trees. Brandon tried to pull away once more and gasped as he succeeded and fell onto the ground in the middle of the trees, above the moon starting to rise above the little clearing. Brandon glared up at Otsah who smiled as he looked towards the sky, "Why did you bring me here Otsah?!"
Otsah didn't say anything though; his eyes were locked on the sky as the moon rose higher and higher. The pair that had dragged Brandon there were also looking at the sky, excitement seeming to keep their body tense. "What are you all looking at... oh..." Brandon looked into the sky and looked at the moon, a shock sparking inside of his body.
The moon was gorgeous, it had never looked so good to him, even slightly obscured as it was due to no longer being a full moon it was a spectacle. A shiver traveled through Brandon, "W... whoa... it's so beautiful." His eyes flashed to a unnatural green color as he looked to the sky, the marking on his arm started to shine as the moon became bigger over the grove until it was right over it.
All four of the men groaned as a shiver ran through their bodies, Brandon sighed as his body started to shift from normal skin to what appeared to be cloth. His eyes were locked on the moon still though; it was as if the moon were all he needed to live for.
The trees themselves seemed to sparkle with an odd mystical power as the leaves took on a purple tinge, as the changes overtook Brandon he couldn't help but feel completely at peace. He no longer cared that he had been taken from his home, in fact he should be thanking the others. They had brought him to where he belonged, as Brandon and the others sat under the moon's glorious gaze they all started to shrink. Their bodies becoming unrealistically small as their forms changed.
Brandon's ears sank away, slowly growing into canine ears on top of his head twitching as they came into existence. The human's face pushed out into a muzzle, though it was made out of cloth instead of real meat and bones. His eyes slowly expanded until they were big green button eyes, little whiskers sprouted from the sides of his new muzzle.
Brandon soon grew a tail which wagged as it grew out as he continued to gaze at the moon, happily contained in its warm gaze. As seams spread up the sides of his body, he giggled as the changes finished. The moon finally moved out of arrangement with the little grove and the humans that had been standing there just a moment before were replaced by plushie animals that let out a simultaneous whimper as the moon took back its glorious rays.
The new wolf plushie looked himself over, his fur was completely white while his eyes were green buttons. His hands consisted of just an arm with little pawpads being a part of the cloth. He glanced up to see an otter, and a pair of twin lions who had yarn manes around their heads. The otter approached him, a smile showing even through his plushie form. "Hello brother Wolf Plushie."
The wolf plushie smiled back, "Thank you, you're Otsah right?" The otter nodded and giggled, Wolf tapped his cheek in a thinking way. "So have you always been Otsah?"
Otsah shook his head, "We all changed our names when we became wereplushies."
Cocking his head, Wolf mulled the word over. "So... that's what we are, Wereplushies?"
Otsah nodded, "Yeah, I was bitten a year ago... well... not bitten per say. But I was marked with the stitches that marked me as a Wereplushie, after that night I was changed into my new Otter form. And I've never felt better, so I just had to spread it and well... so far I've changed three people."
He gestured towards the lion twins who held hands as they looked at the pair silently, "They were twins living in a town over, and one night while they decided they were playing football..." He mimed biting, "I got them both when they weren't looking, and by the next night they became Leo and Tom."
The lions giggled, "Nice to meet you." They said in tandem.
Wolf smiled, "Nice to meet you too. So..." He looked back to Otsah, "Do I have to change my name, or..."
Otsah shrugged, "It's up to you, you can if you'd like."
The wolf plushie thought about it, his tail slowly wagging back and forth. "No... my new name is..." He gave it thought for a moment, "Lunar."
The other wereplushies ooed in unison, "That's a great name." Otsah said as he grinned, the lions nodded in excitement confirming his sentiment.
Lunar smiled and then frowned, "So... did you all just leave your homes?"
Otsah giggled, "Actually no, we're just on a little trip. You see we wanted to come here to make some new wereplushies here so we can spread the goodness before we head back home, though don't you worry. We'll be back whenever we can."
The wolf plushie cheered, "That's great!"
The plushies stayed in the clearing, letting Lunar get used to his new body. As he walked around, he realized something. He glanced at Otsah, "Hey Otsay, why are we small? I remember from last night that you were all big yesterday."
Otsah giggled, "Well you see, we're only big on full moons. On any other night, we're just small plushies. Though we can still infect others..."
The thought of infecting another human into becoming a wereplushie sent a thrill of excitement through Lunar, "That sounds great!"
Otsah nodded, "Though it doesn't look like we're going to be able to do it tonight..." The sky had started to brighten up and all of the plushies felt sadness come as their bodies started to lose their plushiness.
Lunar looked up at Otsah, his eyes turning human once more. "Tommorow?"
Otsah grinned, his teeth returning. "Tommorow." He said in confirmation.
