#10 of A trainer's story

Clash of the Titans

...

When Jake and his companions (including Luxray, who had completely recovered) walked out of their room, he saw Ryan and Charmeleon waiting for them on the hailway.

"Yo, Ryan!" Jake greeted, waving his hand at the other trainer, "Early as always."

"Hi Jake. Oh, Luxray," Ryan said as he spotted the electric pokemon, "How are you doing?"

"I'm okay, thank you." Luxray smiled.

"Hey Ryan, where is Monferno?" Lucario asked as he noticed the fire pokemon's absence.

"He...well, he's in the pokeball." Ryan replied awkwardly, scratching the back of his head.

"Huh? Something happened to him?" Lucario asked again, tilting his head in confusion. Why would he want to stay in the pokeball? Judging from Monferno's reaction when Ryan released him last night, Lucario knew the pokeball wouldn't be his first choice for a place to sleep in.

"Well, we had a few...general issues, so after havin' discussed with each other, Monferno said he wanted to stay inside his pokeball." said Ryan, his cheeks turned faint pink as he shot a glance as Charmeleon, who was also blushing a little, though it was quite difficult to tell, due to the natural color of his face.

Unfortunately for both of them, none of that was able to escape Lucario's shrewd eyes.

While they were walking through the hailway, Lucario softly tugged Jake's shirt, thus got his lover's attention.

"What's up, pup?"

_Just now...did you notice something strange between Ryan and Charmeleon?_the aura pokemon asked. He was using telepathy to communicate with Jake, as he didn't want their conversation to be eavesdropped, or disturbed.

Strange? I didn't see anything strange. Jake replied, confused, What was it, then?

I think...they did some nasty stuffs last night. Lucario said as he managed to stifled a laughter.

Nasty? You meant...oh! Jake blushed as he came to understand what Lucario tried to implicate, But how do you know?

Simple, Lucario grinned smugly, Because that was the same reaction you had after the night I sucked you off.

Oh gosh! Jake blushed even redder, Don't say it out bluntly like that! It's embarassing!

Relax, no one can hear us, Lucario shrugged, And what so embarrassing? Didn't you promise we are going to do that again, tonight?

You! For Arceus' sake, just stop already! You'll get what you want, but until then, be a good pup!

Aye! Oh, but before that...Lemme give you a souvenir. Lucario smiled devilishly, and caught Jake off guard as he softly squeezed the trainer's rump and gave his ass a slap, causing Jake to yelp in surprise.

"What's wrong, Jake?" Ryan asked.

"N-nothing...Let's go!" Jake sputtered. He glared at Lucario, but the aura pokemon completely ignored his lover as he giggled to himself.

"Man, when did he become so naughty?" Jake muttered and shook his head.

...

"So Ryan," Jake began as they walked out of the hotel, "Have any idea where to go now?"

"Lemme see...There are two places avalable. First is the coal mine. A lot of trainers come there to practice, so I think the miners won't have any problem with us. Or, we could try route 207, located in the south of the city. Which one would you like?"

"The mine would be really boring, cuz we've already been there to train many times. I say we take route 207" Jake suggested, and Ryan nodded, "Fair enough for me."

"Okay then, if you please." Jake asked and made way for Ryan as he allowed the younger trainer to lead them to their destination.

As they were walking, Jake almost jumped again as he felt something soft and all...furry wrap around his left arm. The trainer looked to his side, only to see Typhlosion, who was looking at him with googly eyes and softly brushing his fur against him. Jake instinctively brought his head up to check whether Lucario had saw this or not, and let out a sigh of relief as he noticed that no one was looking at them.

"Typhlosion, don't scare me like that." Jake scolded softly, but still let Typhlosion held his arm, "Why do you always act like that around me?"

"Hey, I want to be nice," Typhlosion said, rubbing his head against Jake, "And just because Lucario is your lover, doesn't mean I can't be romantic with you."

"W-w-what?" Jake stammered, staring at Typhlosion in shock, "Who says Lucario is my lover?"

"Oh please," Typhlosion snickered, "If you want to keep your secret, you have to put up a better acting. Anyone smart enough should be able to figure out right at the moment they look at you guys. As for me, I knew that fact from the very first day I meet you."

"So you knew, eh? I've always had a hint that you're obvious about my relation with Lucario," said the trainer dryly, "But why telling me now? Have any issue with me being gay or Lucario's lover?"

"While I don't have anything against your being gay," Typhlosion paused for one second, his voice suddenly became more serious, "I do have a problem with Lucario's being your lover, and I'm pretty sure you know why."

"Why?" Jake asked, still trying to act innocently.

"Because I also love you, Jake," Typhlosion stated firmly, much to Jake's surprise, "And I won't stop until I claim you as mine, physically and mentally."

"W-whoa..." Jake was too shocked and dazed by Typhlosion's words that he couldn't do anything but spacing out for a while. When he was down to earth again, the trainer asked with a shaky voice, "T-This is just to...overwhelming for me to take at one. Just...what happened between you and Lucario after I went out last night."

"Just talking. If you really want to know, then I'll tell you."

(Last night)

"Typhlosion, we need to talk." Lucario said dryly.

"What is it? What do you want now, pup?" Typhlosion replied and cast a cautious stare at the aura pokemon, who was still looking at him impassively. It was rather strange, for this time, it was the aura pokemon to actually start a conversation with him, and he looked deadly serious.

"I want to know," Lucario began. He choosed every single word carefully, because he wanted to make it clear to Typhlosion, one and for all, "What are you trying to do with Jake? Every time he lets you stay outside, you would start flirting with him constantly."

"So what? I do what I like, and I don't see any problem with that?" Typhlosion smirked, showing off this bear-like teeth.

"But I do, because I love him, and I can't stand watching you have your way with him," Lucario said calmly, "I also know you have a great affection for Jake..."

"What's your point? Are you saying that it is my fault for loving Jake?" Typhlosion frowned. Lucario could easily tell the fire pokemon was angry.

"No, I don't blame you, or more correctly, I can't blame you. We fall in love everyday, and loving someone is not a sin." Lucario explained, waving his paw as an indication for his words, "But you must understand the property of this situation. Jake has chosen me as his mate. He doesn't have any feeling for you, and I don't want to see you carry on your futile attemp to steal him from me?"

"Futile my ass!" Typhlosion snapped, his face burning red with anger. After what he had done to pursue Jake, and his genuine feelings for the trainer, who was this Lucario to say that all were futile. Further more, the way Lucario spoke it out so bluntly and the calm expression on the pup's face, as if he was saying something obvious...it made Typhlosion's blood boil.

"I know you are angry, Typhlosion," Lucario continued, "If you wish to settle this in a fight, so be it, let's take this outside."

As much as Typhlosion wanted to beat the crap out of Lucario for what the aura pokemon had just said, he couldn't help but felt something fishy about Lucario's words.

_What if this is a trap. That's it, it must be a trap! He's trying to provoke me. If I start a fight now, then no matter what the outcome is, it'll always be my fault in the end. Then Jake will me angry, and that mutt will take the chance to badmouth me and get even closer to Jake. No, I have to stay calm._Typhlosion told himself mentally as he struggled to keep his composure.

But...come to think of it, his words weren't all absurb. After all, he has been with Jake far longer that me, and...as much as I hate to admit it, he understands Jake better than me. Maybe...I should stop this rivalry, and start playing the 'kind and gentle' type in front of Jake. At least he would have a better opinion about me, and with a little luck, he might actually change his mind and become my mate. Mmm, mate, I really like the sound of that.

Making up his mind, Typhlosion spoke first, "So, you are absolutely sure that Jake will be your mate in the end? (Lucario nodded firmly) Okay then...how 'bout we make a bet."

"A bet?"

"That's right...here's the deal: From now on, both of us will be in a competition. Our goal is simple, to find out which one of us could win Jake's heart first."

"Interesting..." Lucario tapped his muzzle slightly, "Are there any rules we need to oblige? And what would happens if you lose?"

"Fair play," Typhlosion said, crossing his arms, "No badmouthing or using dirty tricks. If I lose, I swear to Arceus that I will permanently withdraw from your relationship, but if you lose, you must do the same thing. Deal?" he finished and extended his hand, offering Lucario a handshake.

"Deal." Lucario said as he firmly shook Typhlosion's hand.

(End of flashback)

"Wow...I never expect you two to settle things so quickly." Jake nodded, "No wonder why it was so peaceful when I returned. But...is it really fair for you to make that bet? I love Lucario, and what makes you think you can change my mind?"

Typhlosion felt an aching pain in his chest, almost like he had ben stabbed in the heart by an extremely sharp knife. Jake...you have no idea how painful those words are, he thought, but quickly regain his composure and looked at the trainer, "I know...I know that you have chosen Lucario, but sometimes, we make mistakes, and I still believe that in the end, you will make the right decision."

"Again, what makes you think so?"

"Because just like Lucario, I also love you with all my heart, Jake!" Typhlosion stated, looking at the trainer with the most genuine and passionate expression he could think of, "You might think that I was fooling around, but I'm more serious than ever. You have a kind heart, and I know that one day, you will come to realize and accept my feelings. I'll be waiting for you, Jake, forever."

Jake was speechless as he just stared at the fire pokemon. Even though he had been bonded with Lucario, Jake couldn't help but feel so warm and touched by Typhlosion's words. At the same time, a spark of guilt flashed through his mind. Typhlosion seemed to truly love him, and what would happen, if he rejected those feelings. He couldn't bring himself to betray Lucario, but he didn't want to crush Typhlosion's heart either. Now Jake was completely stuck, and no matter what he chose, someone would get hurt.

Suddenly, Jake got on his knees and planted a quick kiss on Typhlosion's lips. The fire pokemon was too shocked to do anything, even after Jake had broken the kiss and stood up, smiling softly at him, "Typhlosion, I'm grateful that you have the courage to admit your feelings. It feels nice to be loved, and even though I can't return your feelings, I shall always carry them within my heart. Thank you."

"Hey Jake!" Ryan called, "What took you so long? You are way too far behind us!"

"Sorry!" Jake shouted in respond, "Come on, Typhlosion. Everyone is waiting for us."

Typhlosion felt like his mind just had been blown away by an powerful hurricane. It'd just happened, it really had. Jake had kissed him, and Typhlosion could have swore that there was a spark of passion and gentleness within the trainer's eyes, just now. It made the pokemon's heart soar with joy. It was a very good start, and it made Typhlosion determined to pursue Jake until the very end.

(After half an hour walking)

"Alright, here we are: Route 207." Ryan exclaimed.

"Wow, so this is the place?" Jake said in amazement as he ran his eyes around to exmanine their new training ground. The whole area looked almost like a wasteland, with only a few patches of small grass, the rest is just dirt and dirt, solid and dry soil. Jake briefly wondered if there were any rock/ground-type pokemon around, but so far, he didn't see a single one, "It looks pretty good for training."

"Yup. Then, shall we do it?" Ryan asked, which Jake responded by a curt nod, "Up you go, Charmeleon."

The fire pokemon stepped forwards.

"Let's go, Lucario." Jake said and gestured his aura pokemon to the battlefield. Lucario gave his lover a wink before jumping to the air and landing gracefully in front of Charmeleon.

"A fancy entrance, eh? But it won't help you, pup. I gonna kick your ass." Charmeleon taunted as he casted a vicious and manecing growl at his opponent.

"Bring it on, blow torch." Lucario responded with a smirk.

...

"Alright guys," Ryan said loudly as he walked to Jake and other audiences (including Luxray and Typhlosion), "Before we start, I'd like to inform you that this will be your own battle. Neither Jake or I will give out any order or instruction, so you have no choice but to rely on your skill. Remember: Trust your instinct, and give us the best you could do."

"Oh, there's one more thing," Jake added, "Remember to play fair, no using dirty tricks or illegal blows."

"Sounds good to me." Charmeleon smirked.

"No big deal," Lucario responded and cracked his knuckles, "Here I go!"

Both fighters charged forwards each other, and Lucario was the one to attack first as he lauched a straight punch at Charmeleon, aiming for his face. The fire pokemon easily blocked the punch with his claws. Charmeleon was about to strike back, but a thought suddenly flashed through his mind. Why did he put up such a basic attack? Is he trying to lure me into a trap?

Charmeleon's instinct was soon proven right, because the moment he attemped to cut Lucario with his claws, the aura pokemon quickly leaned down and launched an uppercut at him. The fire pokemon barely advoided the attack as he felt backwards shakily.

"Not bad, blow torch." Lucario sneered. He had already known his little trick wouldn't be able to leave even a scratch on the fire pokemon. It was merely a mind game, and it seemed to work nicely. Charmeleon looked a little intimidated.

"You too, pup." Charmeleon breathed heavily, "Just now...you almost got me."

"Heheheh...Don't worry, that punch was just a warm-up." Lucario continued, "From now on, it will be a real deal!"

Lucario attacked even before finishing his sentence as he lauched himself at Charmeleon, throwing punches and kicks agressively at the fire pokemon. Charmeleon struggled to block the attacks. He attemped to strike back with his sharp claws, but the aura pokemon was just too fast, and showed almost no weak points at all.

"Whoa! This is the first time I actually get to witness those two in action." Luxray said in amazement, "They are such agile and skilled fighters."

"I'd have to agree with you on that." Typhlosion nodded. He crossed his arms, not taking his eyes off the fierce battle.

"What do ya think, Ryan?" Jake asked, "Are their skills and speed equal?"

"Not really..." Ryan gave a half-hearted reply and tapped his chin, "I think there are a small difference...Lucario is faster."

"How come?"

"Have a closer look. Do you notice something, Jake...Lucario is the offensive one. He kept attacking, while all Charmeleon can do is to defend, to the point that he doesn't get any chances to counter." Ryan pointed out, which Jake nodded in agreement, "At this point, Charmeleon will expose his weakness to Lucario. If he continues like this, it will be his one-way ticket straigth to a painful defeat."

...

Meanwhile, things started to turned out the way Ryan predicted. At first, Charmeleon seemed to be able to match Lucario's speed, but he was eventually overwhelmed by the aura pokemon's constant assault. In a desparate effort, Charmeleon tried a different attack, Flamethrower, attemping to spare himself a few seconds for a short break.

However, he shot himself in the foot. Lucario easily doged the fireball, and took advantages of Charmeleon's sudden cease (to launch the Flamethrower) to approach the fire pokemon. The aura pokemon put his left palm on Charmeleon's belly, grinning devilishly, "You're finished, blow torch!"

Charmeleon only had time to gasp in shock and horror as a green blast emitted from Lucario's paw, followed by a huge explosion. The impact also created various clouds of dust, covering both fighters.

Both trainers gasped at the same time, as they noticed a blue figure jump out of the smoke and land on its knees - Lucario, and he was wearing a triumphant smirk on his face.

"Charmeleon!" Ryan called desperately, but received no respond. The dust cloud slowly disappeared, revealing another motionless figure. It was Charmeleon. He barely survived the attack, and seemed to be seriously injured. Sweat was running down his face, and his chest heavied up and down as he gasped for air.

"Still not down, eh?" Lucario said, rolling his eyes at the exhausted fire pokemon, "Touch one, I've gotta give it to you."

Charmeleon was still breathing heavily.

"Had enough?" Lucario continued, "If you want to surrender, then now is the perfect time."

Everyone semmed to have their eyes glued on Charmeleon as they awaited the fire pokemon's decision. Charmeleon didn't say anything, instead, he let out a vigorous roar (although from Lucario's view, it was merely one last struggle before an inevitable defeat) and charged at the aura pokemon, his claws growed bright green.

"Dragon Claws?" Ryan gasped. Jake noticed the concerned look on Ryan's face, "What's wrong, Ryan?"

"Dragon Claws...It's Charmeleon's most powerful melee attack, and he hasn't used that move for a long time. If this doesn't work, it will be the end for him." Ryan explained nervously.

"Still want to go, eh? Then...a claw for a claw!" Lucario said. The spikes on his paws glowed and transformed into six shining claws, three on each paw. He went into a battle stance, bracing himself as he awaited the approaching Charmeleon.

*CLANG*

They clashed.

A gentle, yet scary breeze swept across the battlefield.

"Ryan...Which one do you think will win?" Jake asked, putting his hand Ryan's shoulder. Ryan gulped nervously, "I don't know. Technically, when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, Dragon Claws is stronger than Metal Claws. But Charmeleon has already been injured when he tried to pull out that maneuver, his senses and battle instinct have been greatly reduced. I think..."

He immediately got the answer, as Charmeleon dropped onto his knees and felt face first to the ground. Lucario turned around to look at his fallen opponent. Suddenly, he winced and gripped his right elbow, from which crimson blood was oozing, "Damn. He still managed to injure me. But meh, I won."

Lucario was about to walk away, but when he noticed a terrified expression on Jake and Ryan's face, the aura pokemon turned around, only to have the same terrified expression on his face.

Charmeleon was crawling on the ground and shakily getting onto his feet.

"Why?" Lucario said loudly, "Why do you have to be so persistant?"

"Because," Charmeleon replied, a weak smile crept across his muzzle, "Ryan is watching me, and I will never...never lose to you again!"

"You..." Lucario stammered, completely shocked, "Fine! If you prefer the hard way!". He snarled, three shining claws appeared on the paw of his uninjured arm.

Just watch. I won't disappoint you! Charmeleon vaguely remembered the promise he'd made with his lover. He closed his eyes, thinking about Ryan, his loving smile, his proud expression. He didn't want to let Ryan down. He couldn't affort to lose. He must win!

When everything seemed to be over, came a sudden twist of fate.

Charmeleon's body was covered in a shinning, golden aura and he started to grow. He became taller, bigger, two wings emerged from his back, and instead of one, he had to horns on the back of his head. Lucario had no choice but to stop his attack halfway, covering his eyes to protect his vision from the intense light. The same went for everyone in the audiences.

When the intense light died down, everyone went speechless. Ryan's eyes blinked as he looked at the new form of his beloved fire pokemon.

"Unbelievable!" Jake murmured, rubbing his eyes.

"Wow...I've fought many opponents before, but this is really the first time I get to witness such an amazing evolution!" Typhlosion added.

"It can't be!" Lucario stammered, still working on believing what he'd just witnessed, "H-he actually evolved?"

"Oh yes it can!" Charmeleon, or should we call Charizard now, let out a thunderous roar as he spread his wings out and lifted off, charging at the aura pokemon. He flapped the mighty wings, creating a powerful gush and sending dirt and rocks flying towards Lucario.

"Damn it!" Lucario cursed. He jointed his paws and quickly parted them, forming a long, green energy bone. He used the bone as a staff and spinned it around, deflecting all the dirt and rock. But the real assault had only just begin.

The dirt and rocks were fluffs. Charizard just wanted to block Lucario's version, and whenLucario was able to see again, two extremely fast, blue energy blades was aiming at him. Being incredibly fast as he was, but the aura pokemon was only able to dodge one of the blades. The other merely hit, but it did leave a nasty cut on his shoulder.

"Air Slash!" Ryan said loudly, "He could use a new attack already?"

"Ugh. Even from here it hurt." Jake winced, looking at Lucario concernedly, "I hope Lucario'll be okay."

"Come on!" Lucario taunted, gripping his injured shoulder. He managed to smirk, but combined with the painful expression on his face, made him look scary, "Is that all you got?"

"You want more?" Charizard replied, sneering and showing off his new, razor-sharp teeth, "Be careful what you wish for?". He charged forward Lucario and turned 90 decree, attemping to use his tail as a weapon to whip the aura pokemon. Lucario had no choice but to block it with both of his arms, and at the same time time, he started to fall backwards.

"Running away? Oh no you don't!" Charizard shouted and striked constantly as he used Dragon Claws again. However, thanks to his advantage of being able to fly, his speed was greatly enhanced.

Shit! He is much faster than before! Lucario thought as he had to move around constantly to avoid Charizard's attacks. But eventually, he was getting exhausted, plus his vision started becoming blurry due to the lost of blood.

"Hah! Let's see how long you can keep up, pup!" Charizard panted out. He noticed that Lucario was drastically slower, and his attacks was beginning to hit their target, leaving several small cuts on Lucario's arms and elbows.

Lucario knew that he was being overpowered, and if things went on like this, he would soon be defeated. It was now or never. He had to make the final move. Making up his mind, Lucario jumped backwards, further than usual, where Charizard's claws couldn't reach.

"Come here, blow torch!" Lucario shouted as he put his palms together, forming a blue energy ball between them, "Let's end this. Put everything we have left into this final attack!"

"Bring it on!" Charizard replied. A spiral stream of orange fire started to form in his mouth, ready to burn down whoever unlucky enough to be its target.

"Aura Sphere!"

"Flamethrower!"

...
