James's eyes opened slowly, his pupils focused on Andrew. For a long moment, nothing was said as the two looked at each other. Licking his lips, James did his best to smile. "Hey..."
"Hey yourself," Andrew said, holding his mate's paw up to his cheek. "You're going to be okay."
James smiled and brushed the side of Andrew's cheek. "...I love you."
"I love you too," Andrew replied, his words broken amid the half-sobs. "Stay with me..."
About to respond, James's smile slowly faded, his head coming to rest on a piece of destroyed furniture. His paw became limp in Andrew's own, his pupils dilating as he slipped from the world.
His whole body shaking, Andrew held onto his mate's paw, sobbing. "No...please no..."
