#6 of The legend of Spyro: Cynder’s love

Not too long a wait 4 this one. I'll keep it up

Plez comment, I like to hear from you. C6

The unforeseen power.

As Spyro flew back to the temple, so much blew through his mind.

What was wrong with his mate? Why would she ever attack him? And if so, why didn't she kill him? It would have been totally effortless to slice is throat when he laid his head down, and yet she didn't to it.

All of this was wracking his nerves and somehow he knew who was behind all this...

The dark master.

Nothing but his twisted mind could conceive something like this... but if it was him, it meant this was only the beginning of the attack.

"He's gone way too far this time! No one does that to my mate!!!"

He was going to make him pay! But first he had to get Cynder to safety.

As Spyro's thoughts continued to wonder, Cynder began to slowly come to. And he could soon feel her moving on his back.

It felt like her head was about to explode. She felt nauseated, like she was going to throw up. Her whole body was sore. And on top of that she had a splitting headache.

But she felt herself moving and could hear strong wing beats near her. With her eyes still closed she knew just from his smell that it was Spyro.

"...*Spyro?*... *is that you?*...."

He turned his head a little.

"Yea Cynder I'm right here, don't worry."

He soon felt a paw come up to his neck and stroke him, to which he brought up a paw to gently squeeze hers.

At least she was back to normal and not trying to kill him.

But he felt her paw go limp again as she passed out.

"Good" he thought,

Maybe some more rest would help her.

Meanwhile Ignitus was sitting on the balcony of the temple, eyes closed, in deep thought. He felt that there was a sickening darkness that was approaching but it was not that of which swarmed the whole land, it was more like it was moving to pursue something. Almost as if it had a main target.

"...Cynder..."

He said slowly with deep sorrow.

"He is after her again. I only hope that with Spyro's help she can remember who she is... and if it comes to that..."

Eventually he opened his eyes to see a small black and purple dot coming in from the horizon. It was flying very quickly and erratically, as if it were about to fall from the sky. Ignitus could feel that something was very wrong.

"Danm! He's already made his first move!"

He moved to the side of the balcony and signed Spyro down as fast as he could.

Spyro was losing strength as he had only just discovered how badly the wound on his neck was bleeding. He felt so weak from blood loss and exhaustion. When he was close to the temple he just gave out and fell, if it wert for Ignitus both he and Cynder would have plummeted to the ground.

Ignitus just grabbed the two in one arm and carried them back to the temple. Spyro's whole body went limp but he remained conscious.

"Young dragon, what in the world happened to you both?"

Spyro took a deep breath and said but two solemn words...

"He's back..."

Ignitus merely looked forward.

"May the ancestors protect us..."

Once they arrived Spyro grabbed Cynder's limp form and carefully wobbled into the temple. Once inside he just collapsed. Ignitus tried to help but he insisted that he help Cynder first.

"I'm... fine... check... check on Cynder first."

Ignitus disregarded him.

"She's not the one with a punctured neck."

Once they were situated everyone quickly filed into the main room and looked upon the two small dragons. Sparx was the first one in and was immediately buzzing around Spyro's head, demanding answers.

But Spyro just turned his tired head and swatted away the annoying insect.

"Not now Sparx, I'm not in the mood."

An hour passed and eventually Spyro was strong enough to a least talk about what went on. With all the elders sitting around he relaid the story.

"She just took one look at me and went berserk."

His saddened eyes fell upon the asleep dragoness on the other side of the room.

"Like she never even remembered me...and what we..."

He stopped remembering that Sparx and the others didn't really know about he and Cynder yet.

But Cyril was the first to notice Spyro's pause.

"No need to keep it a secret any longer young Spyro. Ignitus told us everything. And none of us could be happier..."

Volteer had to interject before Cyril could finish.

"And neither I nor anyone of us can fathom why you, Cynder and Ignitus felt it so necessary to keep this out of the light so to speak. Why the mere idea of mateship for you and Cynder could mean nothing but joy for us all. After all it was you who saved her in a selfless act of heroism. Along with the fact we do suspect her of being every bit as powerful as you. With the two of you being together can only strengthen that power. Yes, I feel that there could be no better match for..."

"YES WE GET IT!"

Terrridor boomed.

"We are all happy for them both, but if I remember correctly there was a bit of a more pressing matter to discuss, Volteer."

Meanwhile Sparx was having a fine old time, snickering to himself.

"I knew it!!! I freaking knew it!!!"

***

The discussion of Spyro and Cynder went on for a good thirty minuets until Cyril broke it up and pressed the more important issue.

"If Cynder really is turning back to her old master's control... is she safe to have around? The way Spyro described her was nothing short of frightening I must say."

Spyro was a bit bothered by the comment and was about to intervene but was beaten by Ignitus.

"Cyril!! How can you say such a thing?!? Are you so quick to turn your back on her? She needs our help and all you can think of it how much danger she could be?"

Cyril immediately backed off.

"No, no I merely feel it necessary to point out that she could be..."

"Be what? A threat?"

"Well... yes"

"Cyril need I remind you of what Spyro had told us? She could not bring herself to end him. If she were truly as much of a danger as you think, then Spyro would not be sitting with us right now. She doesn't want that life. And you know it."

Cyril looked down at the ground.

"I suppose your right Ignitus... I apologize Spyro"

Spyro looked up at the ice guardian with both hurt and a tinge of anger in his eyes.

"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to."

He said as he looked over at Cynder.

Cyril just nodded.

Again silence was broken by Ignitus.

"But there is one crucial thing to think about. If Cynder could not kill Spyro then that means she is either not entirely under the dark master's control or fighting it. I'm lead to assume the ladder for I know he is still recouping from his blow at convexity and losing Cynder in general had crippled a good amount of his power, with no one to lead his dark forces.

So I feel that as soon as Cynder wakes up we will need to speak with both her and Spyro to try and get a full understanding of what has happened and just what's to come..."

Everyone agreed and went off to bed. Spyro however didn't feel like going anywhere away from Cynder, he just laid down next to her and covered her with a wing the way she liked.

As she laid there all he wanted was for her to be alright, he made her a promise, to keep her away from the dark master and his tainted control over her.

And now all he knew was failure and sorrow for the promise he could not keep.

Tears welled in his eyes and he snuggled up close to his mate.

"Please Cynder... I can't live if anything happens to you... I... I... I just can't. You're everything to me. Since I first saw your true form in convexity, I knew that you were of kind heart who just wanted to live free. I'm trying to help you do that, but so far I'd say I'm screwing it up right and fine.

But I need you. I don't know how to function without you. And I'll never know how I could before I met you. You know me better than I know myself. There's not a thing about you that is flawed... yet all anyone can see in you is your dark past... when all you want is to do good and have a happy life... away from... "HIM" I promised you that I would protect you from him, but... I couldn't. And now look what he's done to you... trying to turn you back into a monster....

He stopped and wondered for a second.

"I find it amazing though, how he or anyone can try and turn something so beautiful into something so monstrous... it will always baffle me."

He looked down at the ruby-onyx dragoness.

"But I love you no matter what, and I can only hope that might be enough... I love you Cynder. You're beautiful and kind. I only wish, I could be a better mate to you."

Tears fell from the young dragon's eyes as he continued to look upon Cynder as she laid there, the only thing showing life in her was her slow breaths, which even now, were the best lullaby for Spyro.

He sighed, and kissed the back of her neck. He was just about to lay his head down when he heard quiet rasped voice...

"*y'know what? You talk too much.*"

He froze. Unable to believe it.

She was alright!

Spyro instantly grabbed her shoulder and gently pulled her to face him. And there she was. Her eyes were lidded and he smile was weak. But she was there and alright.

Thrown into a happy void Spyro just clamped his arms around her.

"Cynder.... Cynder... oh thank the ancestors your okay..."

He stroked her soft scales and looked into her gorgeous jade eyes. But soon he blushed and began to back up a bit.

"So... uhhhh... how much did you hear?"

She smiled again.

"All of it."

He gave a weak laugh

"Well every word of it is true. But when I get like this I can't shut myself up... might as well just call me Volteer...:

She rolled closer to him

"I think it was very sweet, and I'd expect that from someone as selfless as you... my mate."

Spyro chuckled again.

"I'm not the selfless one, you are too."

She snickered

"Well then we were meant for each other."

Both were so happy that their mate was back in their arms. But Cynder's gaze soon fell to the large scabbed cut on Spyro's neck as well as all the other injuries that dotted his body.

"Oh my gosh! Spyro! What happened?!?"

Spyro broke eye contact and meekly stared at the ground.

Cynder did the same, tears dripping from her eyes at an intense rate.

"It was me... I did it... didn't I..."

Spyro was stunned for a second but soon snapped out of it.

"NO!"

He was nearly screaming.

Spyro grabbed Cynder's shoulders and gently shook her.

"Cynder, you did nothing wrong! You are not to blame for any of this, do you hear me! I know you, I know my mate. And that was not you. Please listen to me when I tell you that you had a chance to kill me. But you didn't take it, you let me go."

She raised her head up a bit, but still looked at the floor.

Spyro just grabbed her head and forced their gazes to lock up. They looked into each other's eye fiercely.

"Cynder, I saw you fighting him, I saw you fighting his control. You were still there. And I know you couldn't control yourself. So please don't blame yourself. And PLEASE don't use this as an excuse to go jumping off any more large towers."

There was a tint of sarcasm to is voice. But he shook it off and looked back at her.

"You're too beautiful for the world to be without."

Cynder finally smiled, and nuzzled herself into his paws. She was now crying more than ever.

"Thank you Spyro. Ancestors be praised that you're my mate. You always know what to say."

He brought the two of them into a tight hug and smiled back at her.

"Heh five minuets ago I was talking too much, and know I seem to know just what to say? I guess I'm just lucky."

All Cynder could do was snuggle herself deeper into her beloved mate.

"I love you Spyro..."

***

The morning woke with a slow start as everyone wanted to talk to Cynder about what she thinks happened.

Ignitus woke up before all the other elders and had a chance to speak with her and Spyro about everything that had happened.

"Cynder do you remember anything?"

She nodded, and stared down at her paws.

"I remember all of it. It was like I was a prisoner in my own body, a screamed and begged for it to stop but it was no use, his voice was pounding thought my head. And my body obeyed... all I could do was sit there and watch."

A tear trickled down her cheek.

"It was like hell... when I thought I was going to kill Spyro... I... just wanted to die."

Cynder sat back and tried to wipe her tears away, only to start to snivel. But Spyro came to her and gently wiped them from her face, and kissed her cheek.

"I'm okay, please don't cry."

She looked back at him with waterfilled eyes.

"How can't I? I almost killed the only one who ever loved me."

Spyro just put a paw around her neck and brought her into a close kiss, one that seemed to quell her sadness a bit. They just stayed like that until Ignitus cleared his throat to speak.

"Cynder, has he tried to take you again?"

"No I haven't felt anything since..."

She continued to explain when she was knocked out and taken to that dark void and met her master again.

"But all I can clearly remember from that was him saying that he was "giving me back my destiny" or something."

Ignitus laid down for a moment, think about what she had said.

"Something about that seems so familiar... but where have I herd something like that before?"

A few seconds passed before he jumped to his feet and sprinted off into the temple.

Spyro and Cynder just looked at each other in confusion, at the fire elder's strange reaction.

Ignitus returned about a minuet later clutching a very large book close to him. He put it down in front of the dragons, they looked upon it.

It was very large and looked to be very heavy. It had designs all over it. With swirls of black and white that intermingled together all over the front and back covers. And it looked to be extremely old.

"This book was one of the books left by the chronicler himself. It held the very prophecy of the purple dragon... you, Spyro. It also contains the story of the legendary dragoness, which we believe is none other than you Cynder."

The three of them all looked down at the book, then up at each other.

"So what does this have to do with what happened?"

Ignitus opened the book and began to quickly search through the pages.

"Oh it has everything to do with it. I thought that phrase was parallel to something I've herd before."

Once he had found the page he was looking for he spun the book around so that Spyro and Cynder could see.

"This is just after the prophecy of the dragoness."

They started to read the fine scripture, it was all strange and neither could grasp anything save for a small quote at the bottom. It read.

"For light may cleanse...

But darkness seeks not hatred.

But understanding...

In the wrong heart. It will be used to destroy.

But in the one with pureness of soul, but tainted past...

The darkness can be chosen for destiny to be returned and bestowed...

For with light as with dark."

They stopped reading and looked up at Ignitus. Cynder was the first to speak.

"I don't understand..."

Ignitus just smiled.

"I think you do Cynder..."

Spyro looked at Cynder, who still was seeking for an explanation from Ignitus, determination in her eyes...

After a few minuets Ignitus spoke again.

"Don't you two see? Cynder, you are the legendary dragoness destined to help Spyro... by wielding the very same power as the dark master!

Cynder, you must learn the element of darkness...

Bit of a cliffhanger. Huh?

2 B CONTINUED. =P

"Fight fire with fire..."

"Fight darkness with darkness..."
