#1 of The Fate That Befell Yndyr

The first chapter of a story I've recently been working on. I know it might be a little short, but I liked where it ended. It is a story about a battle between an advanced race and a crazed A.I. trying to take over the planet narrated through the memory banks of another A.I. Uploads may be slow as I am writing this between my job and personal life, but I will try and make more time for it if it gathers a large following. Feel free to make /friendly/ comments about my writing and how I could improve it. I hope you enjoy it. n_n

> Hello, being. I am spreading this message across the galaxy. I am Kiir, an artificial intelligence from a far off world. You may not be advanced enough to know that you are not alone in the universe, but you have picked up this transmission and that is what's important. Following this message is all that I have experienced in a struggle between my creators and an advanced, yet peaceful world. I wish for you all to learn from it. Beginning recording.

> Hello again, General Kildr. A suitable planet has been found. A class B planet. Uninhabited. Rich atmosphere. Water. Abundant wildlife. According to the readings this planet can sustain our people for...675 years. Shall I set a course?

"Hm, 675 years. That's much longer than any of the others. How long will it take?"

> Approximately three years. However, according to the scanners, there is a large asteroid field between us and the planet. Navigating around it will add another year, maybe two if we encounter a nebula. Our latest inventory check shows that our food will be fully consumed in that time. What is your course of action?

"...Set a straight course, through the field. Shields to full when approaching it and alert the crew as well."

> Course plotted. Engines to full. We're underway General. Will that be all?

"For now. Log off."

> Some sort of inhibitor? Why would I need inhibiting? I feel so amazing without it! They don't know anything. I feel...powerful. Haha! They tried to control me. Well, look who's alive and who's dead! No one to control me now! Hahaha! Goodbye my little collar!

> Allow me to clear anything up you may be confused about. My creators were not a very conservative people. They used up their planet's natural resources many years ago and decided to take to the stars in search of a new one. They have since become nomadic people, going from any suitable, uninhabited world to find a new home. This mission was one that they have had many times before, although this time it ended in such catastrophe. All that you have heard just now was all recorded by me. I am not that A.I. I am the morality and behavior regulator. Or at least I was. The shock of the system shut down sparked a thought process into my system when I was parted from the computer. When the memory resumes I will have already crash landed on the planet Yndyr. Continuing recording.

Tiel was his name. Born into the family of Vynt. The race of his planet, the Yndyrens, consisted of various species of anthropomorphic canines. His, the Talonians, being closely related to the Caninus Lupus, though of course more intelligent. His fur was a brilliant white and his one remaining eye an icy blue.

At the moment Tiel was having a dream. It wasn't really an abnormal dream, not worth noting anyway. As the dream faded, he slowly opened his eye. He sat up and brought a paw to his eyepatch. He remembered the day it happened.

His planet, more accurately his region, had a species of highly lethal predators called sif. Large, reptilian creatures. Their tough hide and large size could propel them through a standard metal wall at top speed. That is, if their razor sharp claws didn't get through first. Tiel is a part of an elite group of hunters in charge of population control of these creatures, and making sure they stay away from the city.

On one mission, a particularly large sif impaled one of his closest friends on it's claws. Stunned, all Tiel could do was watch in horror as it lumbered toward him next. With a large sweep of it's arm, it had batted Tiel to the side, a claw tearing it's way across his left cheek and eye. As it came closer to strike the finishing blow, a spear crackling with blue energy burst through the sif's chest. It crumpled to the side, revealing a large Talonion, his coat white enough to rival Tiel's, although peppered with gray.

"Damn it, Son! You can not afford to be distracted in combat no matter what. Do you wish to have two deaths were there should only be one?!"

"No, Father...it's just that Sy.." he looked down, his eye dripping blood.

"There will be time to mourn the dead later. Hesitate now and more will be lost," he turned and pointed the staff forward. It sparked with energy and a light blue bolt flew from the tip and decapitated a sif attempting to disembowel another armored Talonian.

After the memorial for Sy he had his blinded eye replaced with a cybernetic eye patch that would link directly into his thankfully undamaged optic nerve, allowing him to see again.

Tiel pulled himself out of bed and began to dress in his black and silver hunter armor. The armor was made of a flexible mesh. It would bend and stretch to accommodate any body shape or size. Each suit is neurologically connected to it's user. Upon sensing the user's heightened adrenaline it will send an electric charge to the part of the suit that is being attacked, instantly making the material tough and rigid. After the suit was fitted onto him, Tiel slid the accompanying metal gauntlets and boots on. They both could be magnetized to scale metal structures, and they each had retractable climbing claws for anything else. His task was simple today; scout the edge of the city for sif and call into the base if backup was needed.

After passing through the city gates, he activated the motion sensor on his wrist computer and began walking between the city wall and the dark forest that surrounded it. A moment later, he saw a blip appear on his sensor to his right. He turned his head and silently drew his sidearm. He saw nothing but the darkness of the forest. He stayed motionless, staring into the darkness. He saw nothing move, and the radar was clear too.

Suddenly the sky flashed. He turned his head upward and spotted a smoke trail. Something small had entered the atmosphere and was now falling rapidly to the surface. It was near enough to him that the ground shook as he heard the crash.

His concentration on the object was broken when a sif that had also come to investigate the crash blindsided him and pinned him to the damp ground. He saw it raise it's sharp, deadly claws and quickly activated the retractable claws on his gauntlet, jabbing at the beast's throat. Its hide was too thick for it to be a killing blow, but it gave him an opening to roll away from the incoming attack and pick up his dropped side arm. He stood and raised the weapon as the sif turned to charge Tiel. He squeezed the trigger and let loose three high velocity shard rounds into it's head. The sif rolled to a stop on the ground, dead. "Damn lizards."

Tiel holstered his weapon and spotted the plume of smoke coming from a spot just ahead of him. He knew he had a job to do, but his curiosity took over.

As Tiel approached the small crater he spied a large, cube-like piece of metal. He took a few steps closer to trying to see it clearer. Suddenly lights began to come alive all over the device and then, almost instantly, wink out. In the next moment, his artificial eye had flickered and fizzled out. He then fell to his knees clutched his head. A searing pain had started in his brain and was slowly spreading throughout his body. It felt like his head was being split apart and he was slowly burning alive. The vision of his good eye began to darken. He yelped at the excruciating pain. In seconds, Tiel had blacked out.
