#16 of The Other Dragon World

A Mistake from the Past

They walked along the quiet corridor, hoping of any attacks that could be directed to them. The place was full of rocks. They expected any attacks that could come anytime to them, and they were ready.

"H...hold on for a sec," said Seraphor while coughing blood. He was full of pain despite of not taking a serious damage from the outside. Spyro then directed him to a nearby wall. The once shiny silver red scales the dragon had became very tainted with blood, mostly coming out from some cuts. The purple dragon felt the blood Seraphor had was poisoned.

"Did you...inhale dark energy?"

"I...I was..."

"You can't go on, Seraphor. The slit of yours started to fade. If you go on, you'll be dead," said Spyro in a sympathetic tone. "It's not our style to be like this, but I can't let you die." "Let me go with you.... I can walk by myself if I have to."

"Where's that voice coming from?" a voice stated. "The corridors? Can you check it out?"

"Shit! We gotta..."

"Don't run! We can't run or hide now! We need to go through."

"I know we need to go, but your condition is not fit for any fights!"

"I can rely on elemental magic."

"Shit, this can't be helped."

Seraphor then felt his body was being lifted, and he realized Spyro (that had a bigger body than him) was putting the dragon on his back, making a burden on him.

"S...Spyro...don't..."

"I'll do what I have to do!" interrupted Spyro. "The dark energy is a poison, and can only be cured by the one using it. I've got that shit once but my girlfriend managed to save me."

"Y...you mean, Cynder?"

Spyro had started to run when he heard that name. He suddenly gasped, "W...what? How do you know?"

"We can't talk about this while we're in a situation! Do you know where you're heading?!"

"I've been taught by the Four Guardians how to sense Darkness. Not only because I can do that, but also because this sensation is familiar. I really fucked everything up."

The silver red knew what Spyro meant. It was just like Shyplis said, and Spyro realized it being so close to it every time they run. Seraphor couldn't do much since his consciousness gradually falling and his blood started to stain Spyro's back. The cut became very hot by time, burning his body by time, giving him a severe headache, and of course the pain that was long gone from his tail and legs started to open as well, making him couldn't even move or concentrate to use elemental magic.

Spyro could only run despite the fact that he wanted to fight. The whole place became a lot warmer because he was dodging fire balls and claws. No, the main thing that kept getting warm was the warm blood dripping on his back. Seraphor's wound couldn't close as fast as normal because he was poisoned by dark energy. The silver red was also breathing heavily and each time he became more and more warm. He caught a fever from untended wound, and they were too far to even find any treatment.

Seraphor was incredibly light despite of only slightly smaller than Spyro, so he could run on all fours while trying to maintain stability. The silver red was also using his claws to try to stay on Spyro. There was a slight pain when Seraphor's broken claws started to penetrate his back scales and started to hurt the skin below it, but Spyro didn't care. His only intention was to destroy the darkness, even if he must succumb to his dark self.

Then, like what happened two years ago, Spyro felt time around him slowed, as he was drawn into a thick darkness. He knew it came from a room right to him, so he crashed through it, and got stricken in fear that he almost fell.

The dragon inside the room was formed from dark clouds around it. Thick as a night and poisonous, the dragon stepped out from the dark cloud. It was a big dragon, two or three times that of Spyro. It was very proud with its head up. It's menacing two sets of curved horns with black to magenta hue was the only part that made Spyro very much scared, not counting its big underjaw and its menacing all-yellow slit eyes that haunted the purple dragon's dream many years ago. Its dark purple scales were the only part that reminded Spyro that he was once a purple dragon like him, and not to fall down to the same path as him.

"Malefor..."

"Spyro. You've grown so much," said Malefor with a menacing tone. "Haven't fallen yet?"

"I haven't, and I won't," replied Spyro with teeth barred. "I see you're alive well, and like what you're, you are just a lazy old dragon lounging in this room while commanding things around."

"Oh, still the same? Where's that little traitor bitch? You finally killed her and heed my warning, hmm?"

"Where's Ember?"

"Oh, a new companion? The pink dragoness is in my care, and she's a very frail, yet young dragoness with slight darkness inside her. She'll be my new underling, unlike that bitch that became tainted with light just because you intervene!"

"You won't dare taking Ember to be your servant! You're not even be able to defeat..."

"You? When did you think you've defeated me?! You're nothing but a child, saved by that traitor just only she loved you. If you had never even born she'll be my servant, my LOYAL servant."

"You...Cynder is not your slave, asshole!"

"Then let's see if you can do what she couldn't do, whelpling!"

Malefor gave out a powerful roar that shook the room and if Spyro didn't have good claws he couldn't hook himself onto a rock. Unfortunately for Seraphor, he was pushed the force of the roar and hit a wall. It was hurt enough, but enough to regain consciousness despite of his wounds, and managed to make a trail of steady electricity through his front leg. Unknown to him, Malefor also had the same power as Spyro, countered the electricity with his own. This made Seraphor in awe.

"What the fuck..."

"Hah! So that friend of yours is an electric dragon? Spyro, really, your companion is not even competitive or even know anything about our fight..."

"Sera is not what he is now! It's between you and me!"

"You think you can beat me with only yourself? I have Cynder's powers too!"

Seraphor tried to maintain his consciousness and to concentrate so he could use his paw-triggered elements. But it's hard, knowing his injury was made by darkness and he was like in the tornado's eye of darkness, making him very much in pain like when he was fighting Cero.

He could concentrate enough to use ice platform when Spyro jumped and tried to torch Malefor and engaged in a close combat. The fire made some of the ice melted, and Seraphor flowed his electricity with his leg, making a shocking electricity overload that was effective. Malefor got shocked a little, but just a little.

"I must say, that dragon is very smart, unlike you," said Malefor with a low growl of laughter.

"Just fight already and don't talk too much!"

Malefor and Spyro got their front claws met, then their tails. Both tried to cut through each other but because of Malefor's bigger build he was able to toss Spyro up and quickly blew the smaller dragon with wind gust from his wings. Spyro opened his own wings to minimize the damaging gust, and glided safely down. Only then he realized it was a decoy as Malefor's horn was in front of him and pierced his side while Spyro was still on two, almost cutting through his abdomen. Without warning Spyro tried to pierce through Malefor's skull with ice spear, but Malefor lifted his head and threw Spyro directly to Seraphor, giving the latter more pain.

"Damn it! He's still as strong as he was!"

"Spyro, don't just make me as a pillow! He's attacking!"

Like was Seraphor said, the purple dragon was jumping to them and released a massive poisonous smoke that both dragons accidentally inhaled. Their blood became full of it and it became worse to Seraphor. He never felt something so agonizing before and this forced him to let out a roar of pain which he seldom did because of his unusual endurance to wounds. This time, though, the combination of both the dark energy and the poison running inside his blood was enough to make him numb and unable to even concentrate. He was close to dying.

"Feel the pain already? Feel the poison slowly burning through your body and eating your flesh from your inside? Your roar proved everything is right, and I want to see how you'll be in agony before your soul is permitted to even leave you!"

"Y...you sadistic bastard!"

"Spyro, Spyro...you still want to fight me? Just go through the pain and you'll die."

"I won't die, not because of this!" said Spyro while coughing blood. "You won't change this world if I'm still alive, and the legacy of the future purple..."

"Oh, the legacy? The legacy of Darkness? You still think, we purple dragons are not corrupted. We're created by the devil's spawn, the first darkness dragon that will replay the whole play of corruption and destruction! You will be the menace of the next generation, just like what happened to our ancestors and your future descendants! We are cursed breed, and there's nothing more than us to fight the previous one."

"Do you..."

The poison started to affect Spyro's nerve system, making him numb and fell. He also couldn't sense anything, but he could hear Malefor's maniacal laughter before his eyes blurred, his ears damp, and everything he could hear was silence...and he only could see darkness. Death had got its grip on him, and he was soon to leave the world he had lived for 18 years...

His heart.... He could feel his heartbeat still thumping on his chest, getting louder and louder in his small almost invisible ears. What in the world was happening?

Seraphor, that still got his last consciousness left (his endurance was abnormally high in Spyro's world), saw what happened to Spyro's body, and he smirked to himself.

There was only one dragon left to fight the maniacal dragon, and that dragon was also a purple dragon, living inside Spyro. Seraphor saw the small purple dragon's body started to produce smoke, and then the heat much like when Spyro turned into the once-monster was released, giving a slight pain to Seraphor's body. The fire engulfed Spyro in a fashion of a tornado, and the intense fire burned the whole darkness and Seraphor's dark energy-poisoned blood (not the poison he inhaled). This made Seraphor regained composure, but because the other poison was still in him, he was still numb, but could bear the pain.

The dragon in front of him, Malefor, became surprised on the turn of event, but he still saw everything was in control. After the flame receded, he was both astonished and surprised on the dark purple dragon having hair covering his spine and scales and maroon eyes staring back at him and ready to fight. It was not the one he got from Red's report about the rampaging other consciousness, but a magnificent, yet malicious, dragon.

"I'll leave everything to you, Shyplis. You're the hero...now," said Seraphor before his head fell on his folded front leg and became too dizzy to even move. Shyplis had replaced Spyro's body, despite of the host's condition. He coughed a little blood, then wiped it from his maw.

"If I can't get out from this place, every good dragons capable on opposing you will die, purple dragon of the future."
