#17 of The Squall

MercenaryMark: Well here's the fourth short, which I'm actually turning into chapter 13 due to its length, though if you're wondering this IS the fourth short in spite of its chapter status so yea you will still get to see Shawn getting more sexing in the final short. On that note, the person starring in the fifth short will be Shasta the fennec so thanks for putting in the votes and hope you enjoy.

Another thing I want to clear up is one of my readers asked why I didn't have Tony with a knot due to him being a canine. I do depict each anthro with designated humanoid sex organ but with unique assets to them: like felines have prickly, canines have knots, and reptiles have bumpy and so on so forth. Honestly it was just an error in my eagerness to see how good of an m/m story I could write that I bypassed it, so if Tony and Shawn do have another pairing (which they will, I promise that) then I will make sure to put in that detail as well.

Last thing, if you are a new reader and wish to do some backtracking make sure to check out Videogame30's profile for chapters 1 through 9 as he was the previous writer, because I sure as hell am too lazy to post them on mine ;o

PS: another thing I find curious is that you rarely ever see, when it comes to human=furry romances like this, the human character in question being some other race aside from Caucasian. Go ahead and go through sofurry search, bet you anything you will not find ANY story staring a black or Indian dude as the main character...though I recall an artist who has a African American as his main cast in his brand of 3d artwork, forgot his username though.

Anyway here is short story four, otherwise chapter 13 of the Squall.

The Nevrean race belongs to Trancy Mick.

Everything else belongs to Me and Videogame30.

White.

Throbbing pain in head, exhale a groan in protest before opening eyes.

Jack was still alive.

Shaking his head in an attempt to ignore the pain, his mind buzzed quietly as he attempted to recollect the events of the past night. With a jolt he suddenly sat up, feeling the waves catching into his bare feet as his toes sunk into the sand; he was on a beach somewhere, which was odd since the boating port in Rhode island didn't have very many beaches... was he stranded somewhere?

Looking around he took in the empty space of shrubbery and jungle trees behind him, feeling a sinking feeling as the aching in his head began to subside and he began to recall the events at hand. His name was Jack Whelan, computer repairman and furry artist; and his friend was Shawn Martin, fisherman and guitarist. During one of his fishing trips, Shawn disappeared during a rough squall that capsized his boat and partially destroyed it, the coast guard having searched and not found a body of any kind floating or below the water. Jack himself had gone out to investigate the site but his boat too was put under the stress of a hammering downpour.

Eventually it got worse, the boat was flipped over due to the sheer force of the waves and Jack only remembers struggling to breach the surface but slowly losing consciousness. Drowning, everything was turning dark... but then a white light enveloped him and then...

He woke up here feeling like an anvil had been dropped on his head, without a clue on to where he was. Considering the possibility of being stranded, he felt himself beginning to panic, trying to calm his body to prevent himself from hyperventilating as he looked around quietly, "Shit."

Jack took a quick breath, calming himself before patting his body down for sand. He didn't question the whereabouts of the galoshes he had been wearing when he was aboard the boat and began scoping around the sandy beach for any possible life. Finding none minus a few scuttling crabs the human chose a separate direction and began jogging down the sand in an attempt of finding something of particular interest.

After jogging for 45 minutes straight Jack decisively stopped to catch his breath. He wasn't overweight but he definitely wasn't on the muscled side due to the lack of physical activity in his life. Looking around he lifted a brow as an old style boat appeared in his midst, which meant at the very least there was someone close or near. Jack wasn't stupid though, he wasn't going to just blunder into unknown jungle looking for this dude or women, and he was going to sit right here waiting for the unknown boat owner.

He took a look inside the boat, finding a few hunting tools and a knife along with fishing tackle. Wincing visibly, the materials strongly reminded him of Shawn.

"What the...no way..."

Jack turned his head, being met with the sight of a small bipedal avian/ raptor with its mouth agape wait whaaaaaaaaaaat?? His own jaw dropped at the sight of the small creature, who was still just as surprised as he was. She (as he guessed from the tone of her voice) pointed, "Another human? Well, guess I shouldn't be surprised..."

The creature hesitated in turn as she approached a still surprised Jack, who subconsciously reached for the hunting knife in the boat which caused her to freeze. Another awkward minute passed before Jack finally found his voice, "who... what are you???"

"Hey calm down," she replied, putting both hands on her hips, "I'm a nevrean (don't know what that is look it up), and I'm not going to hurt you alright, just put the knife down before you hurt yourself."

Jack felt a slight annoyance, the avian in question was making him feel like a child caught with his hand in the cookie jar, but never the less he understood her sincere tone and set down the knife, falling on his bottom in surprise when the little avian humanoid closed the distance.

In comparison she was rather short and lithe, only reaching about 5 feet in height. Though she had a broad beak like muzzle with cobalt coloring he detected very sharp looking teeth within. Her feathers were a navy blue, and though her feet and hands were avian like with claws she still had ruffled feather projection along her arms and thighs (as she was wearing a black tunic) and also stuck out from her head like hair giving her a more subtle appeal.

She had a very long thin tail like a cat but with a tuft at the end of it, but her eyes were the most drawing part of her. They were almond shaped while the pupils were very small in the center of a hazel colored iris. She had a slight feminine lean to her stature, and Jack wouldn't have guessed otherwise if she hadn't spoken (considering she had no detectable breasts).

Jack jumped again as she spoke, shaking her head, "well the boss was right after all, guess I owe that bastard a drink hehe," she bent down a bit, smirking and showing her teeth, "names Vin by the way," to which she held out her hand to help him up.

"Thanks..." Jack replied slowly, taking the hand as she helped him up. In spite of her stature she was quite strong, and the human was soon patting loose sand off him again, "where am I exactly?"

"Another dimension, different one from yours," Vin replied casually, moving to get in her boat as she pulled out a hat, a slim looking thing with rounded edges, and propping it comfortably on her head as she looked up at the human and chuckled at the look on his face, " here get in, I'll explain along the way home."

She held out her hand for him to take, to which he hesitated before grabbing gently. As she helped him in he couldn't help but notice the texture of her hand and claws, which felt birdlike and so small in his hand yet still very strong. Sitting down, his companion picked up a spade before pushing them into the water, then set it down to rev up the engine of the small fishing boat while asking, "alright I know you have a million questions so I'll bite."

Jack remained quiet until they took off in the water, tracing around the beach at a slow pace before asking, "What do you mean... a different dimension?"

"You recall a white light before being suddenly waking up here right?" Vin replied, steering them along, "that's because you were zapped here, ported off to our world without a care by a lion named Charles and his company of zealous assholes."

"Lion?"

Vin looked at him questionably before snapping her fingers, "oh yeah I forgot, apparently our world is inhabited by anthro-morph version of local animal life in your world, like cats, dogs, horses, you know the usual deal?"

"Like you?" Jack asked, watching the coast beginning to drift away as they moved away from the island he woke up from. He turned his head, blinking back surprise as the view of peninsula met his wake, a coastal city snuggled within its recesses as Vin replied, "oh no, I get the whole 'are you a bird' a lot but there are certain species on this world that are species all its own in spite of the semblance."

"Nevrean?" Jack asked to which she nodded, smiling, "don't worry too much though, once I notify my employer of your presence he will set you up alright with the details."

Jack was about to ask her how she knew so much about his world when the sudden finality of his situation hit him. Unlike Shawn, Jack had two loving parents and a plethora of siblings, and the sudden realization that there was a possibility that with what Vin was saying was true, and then he would never see them again. Heaving, he asked the nevrean to stop before tilting over and emptying the contents of his stomach outside the boat.

Vin chided him for this, something about marine anthros, but Jack was too unsettled by this. True he was a furry artist and such things could only be met with imagination and dreams but this...this was real, and he was alone. He snapped himself from going into a never ending depression as a quote said earlier suddenly got his attention, "Wait, what did you mean by 'another human'?"

"You're actually the third human to appear in this dimension, "Vin revealed, "that's counting my employer and the human named Shawn."

"SHAWN?!" Jack immediately tried to stand up but ended up stumbling and falling out of the boat, his companion squawking in protest and diving in to grab him, leaving the two soaking wet. Jack didn't care though as the female grumbled in annoyance, "Shawn? Shoulder length dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, skin like mine?"

"YES," Vin commented in her annoyance, shaking her body down from the water as she stood up and removed her tunic and hat. Her body was a pattern of light tan from her neck down between her legs and along her arms as well as the rest was cobalt. Her tone visibly softened when she commented, "I'm guessing you two are friends huh, must have been a shock in your dimension when he disappeared."

"To me it was," Jack commented, his fear of the female dropping completely as he moved to take her wet tunic, watching curiously as she dug into a satchel and put on a different one which was a matching blue color to the color over her eyes and along her beak, "he is here though? Is he alright?"

"He got kidnapped by the same group who brought you here but my employer saved him," She then huffed, her feathers noticeably ruffling, "I could have done it myself but he insisted."

The two remained quiet afterwards, Vin concentrating on steering the boat as she left Jack to think. In his heart he was leaping for joy that his long lost friend wasn't dead after all, but that also left finding him in this strange dimension, one that was apparently inhabited by anthros. The human was surprised he wasn't very excited at the prospect, turning his head back to Vin, "Is he with you guys?"

"No," came her reply, "but you'll get to see him don't worry, you will have to talk to my boss first though."

The boat came to a stop at the docks, to which she hopped out and shook off her hat while pulling out another item from her satchel, "put this on."

It was a black hoody, one that barely fit him as she moved to get the cooler from within the boat and handed it to him. She then proceeded to instruct him to keep his head down while she led him back to her apartment, as to not draw attention. He understood, recalling the kidnapping detail as he followed her in shop, letting her cash in on her catch within the cooler before following her quietly to a very small vehicle similar to a Fiat 500 in his world, to which he had trouble fitting in while she cheerfully took the drivers seat.

The drive wasn't very long thankfully, but through it all he felt a slight depression coming back to him. Shawn was alive and he was sure to see his dear friend once more; he was also in a furry world that only a few could dream of being a part of... yet the full enormity of his situation on him, he was in a unknown place away from his friends and family and he would never see them again; even though he had hoped to find something about Shawn even he wouldn't have wanted to abandon all that for this.

Jack's attentions snapped back when the vehicle came to a stop, Vin saying something to him but he found that he wasn't really paying attention all that much to her, his body moving at a robotic like pace as he assisted her with her essentials. He only came back to reality when he found himself in front of a door at the top level of the building they were in, carrying her bag while she opened the door and lead the way inside.

Her home was very well furnished, sporting an appeal that spoke of someone who enjoyed the smaller things in life (no pun intended) with different ornaments hung along the wall. Jack was impressed all the same; her kitchen and living room were very large with a paved hallway that leads to a bathroom and a master bedroom. He took notice of several pictures adorning a few end tables next to the tan colored couch, while everything else seemed to hold that color theme of tan, red, and very light yellow.

Vin showed him around, making sure he got comfortable, "want something to eat? Its going to take awhile before the boss shows up."

Jack's stomach noticeably rumbled, answering her question with a humorous chuckle from both as she moved to the kitchen area to make them a meal. Upon her return she set down a plate in front of him while sitting in a comfortable chair next to his position, already moving to eat as Jack looked down at his plate. Too his surprise it was an assortment of an aquatic display, shrimp, crab, salmon, eel, all of it kept raw above a small blanket of white rice, which reminded him strongly of sushi. It turned out delicious all the same, and he ate quickly though without scarfing it down to offend his host, "so if you don't mind me asking, how do you know so much about my world?"

Vin gulped steadily after a bite of eel as she replied, "it's my job to know, I shouldn't bother with the details until he gets here but I'm sure he won't mind."

She took another bite of her Asian style meal before continuing, "My employer is a human named Samiel, he leads a rebel sect called 'New Dawn' that's dedicated to destroying a medical and science company known as Mane Medical, which is lead by its CEO Charles Bartholomew. "They are a large contract company that makes cures in an almost miracle like way, which is why they are held in such high esteem, but New Dawn knows their true goal."

Jack winced slightly as she pointed at him, "Humans are their goal, as in your world were there is a furry fandom to what you believe isn't real is the same here, a smoothie fandom for what most thought was fantasy as well... and Charles goal is to bring more humans into this world to set up a slave market for anthro's to exhaust their deepest darkest desires upon, and by the time its over they will be rich and set for life while thousands of humans are raped and kept as pets everyday."

"That's how I got here," Jack commented, scratching his knee as he gulped down some crab, "but wouldn't it be counteractive if they are only to beam in one human at a time?"

"Well that's only because they can't keep a portal open for any longer for one human to get sucked in as the dimensions and time tend to always fluctuate... but if they had the DNA coding of one human they captured they would be able to open a portal for as long as they liked, its our duty to stop them."

"Don't you have some kind of government that knows about this though," Jack asked, put off by the idea.

Vin shifted uncomfortably before replying, "well... yes, but we are a vigilante group so we are just as guilty as they are, also on note they ARE a medical company so we can't pin those assholes unless they give us the chance."

Jack nodded, then lifted a hand as another thought occurred to him, "soooo... how did you know I would be there on that isla-"

Before Jack could ask more there was a loud thumping on the door, drawing both of their attention. Vin blinked, turning to the human and directing him to hide within the curtains as she moved to answer the door. Jack blinked, keeping still as he listened intently to what was happening.

Door opens. Vin asks, "can I help you?"

Gruff voice responds, "pardon us, are you Vinati Soloma?"

"That would be me?"

"Well a little birdie tells us you're hiding a human here, mind letting us get a look?"

A scoff from Vin, "I'm not obligated to let unknown people into my home, please leave."

"But we insist Ms. Soloma; we wouldn't wish to hurt you or your new companion..."

"..."

There was a small margin of silence, but Jack's fears were confirmed when Vin spoke up again, "pulling guns on me in my own home? I could have sworn Jason had a bit more class then that."

"Oh he does, but after the first human escaped us we can't risk another getting away as well, so just make this easy for yourself and hand him over."

"Over my dead body."

"Cliché response but that can still be arranged..."

There were several loud banging noises, followed by the sound of a scuffle, a yelp, then the sound of something thudding against the ground. Jack kept still for a while longer before peeking out. To his shock there were two donkey anthros on the ground, knocked out while Vin pat both her claws together, "morons..."

"How did you..."

She grabbed his hand, leading him back out to the hall, "no time, Mane Medical found us."

"Already?" Jack responded as both of their head turning down as the shouts of orders being given and crowd of feet impacting with the stairway made its way closer to them. Without answering she began to take him higher up the building in an attempt to out space their pursuers. As they did she pulled out a communication device that looked similar to a cell phone but with a much thinner perspective as she tapped a few on screen buttons then held it up to the side of her head. The moment a gruff male voice answered,"hello?" she yelled into it, "Sam I need that back up here NOW! Mane Medical was tracking the third human and now they are piling into this building without recourse."

"Damn, I underestimated Charles tenacity," Sam answered though his voice never wavered, "get to the roof and hold out there as long as you can, ETA 5 minutes."

"Don't let me down," she responded, hanging up and pocketing the device, "as if you ever have..."

"Hey!"

One of the guards had caught up, reaching for the human with a swipe of his paw. Jack yelled out, falling back and barely dodging the swipe as Vinati moved past him and placed a punch into the guard's crotch, causing him to falter in pain before getting kicked down a set of stairs on the stairway which left him disoriented. Jack looked down at him fearfully but the pounding of following feet grew louder, motivating the two to pick up the pace as they continued to run up the stairway, reaching the top. The roof door was locked, but much to Vinati's surprise Jack proceeded to kick the door open, almost breaking it of its hinges.

"Damn it, I would thank you for doing that but now we have no way of blocking them off, "the raptor bird commented in annoyance as she moved to try and brace the door.

"Sorry, adrenaline, "came Jacks answer as he looked around the unoccupied space, noticing two approaching dots heading towards them, "but looks like your friend is almost here!"

He jumped when she suddenly let out a cry, several of the guards slamming into the doorway as she skidded backwards and pushed back. She may be strong but she wasn't THAT strong. Jack moved to help her brace the door with great effort. He was little help, as he lacked in physical strength but the more time they held out the louder the sound of what appeared to be tripod helicopters approached, both colored a red and black urban camo.

Too late though as the both of them were repelled as the guards broke through, moving to seize them both. Then the fighting began; Vinati holding her own with crippling lashes and blows to her enemies below the waist which caused them to buckle and allow for more finishing attacks. She was even further impressed with Jack, who was holding his own as well. While not necessarily fighting the guards were having trouble grabbing and pinning the human, as he seemed to bring up his hands fluidly and divert each of them past him in a sort of defensive demeanor. Jack had never revealed to Shawn but during his middle and high school years bullying became a bit of a problem for him so his parents, in their concern, took him to a sensei to learn the most basic of Karate types: Jujitsu.

While he never exceeded past the green belt due to his lose of interest, Jack never the less gained a bit of a reputation because of his training, even earning a bit of a nickname from the local bullies who in spite of stronger physical strength, literally couldn't lay a hand on him.

But numbers can overwhelm as the nevrean was tackled to the ground by one of the guards, causing her to cry out in pain as he yanked her small arm behind her back in a hold as he looked up at the elusive human, "surrender now or I'll break her little arm, then her little neck!"

Jack froze, his hesitation causing him to go down as well by a canid anthro. As they were surrounded, the sounds of the two choppers grew in volume; Jack looked up in the sky as he was hauled up to notice the tripod vessels hover above, then a loud intercom voice said, "Put the two down or I will lay down such a smack down you won't be able to tell your heads from your assholes."

This would have been funny but the situation only called for a nervous giggle from the two captured companions as one of the guards yelled out, "not a chance!"

"Ass whoopin' it is..."

Jack blinked as a distal shape of a man suddenly jumped out one of the copters, dressed in nothing but a dark gray turtleneck with matching boots, red and black camo cargo shorts, and a hockey masked that looked oddly similar to a known fictional hockey mask killer in the human plane.

"Jason?" Jack commented in confusion.

"No, Sam," Vin smiled as she too had noticed the other human leaping into the fray.

The one named Sam landed on a group of Mane Medical Soldiers, catching them by surprise as one holding Vin let go to which she moved to assist Jack. As this was happening, two ladders lowered and two more anthro's dressed in a similar manner jumped into the fray: A handsome looking wolf with a black star like pattern adorned his forehead while the other was another creature that Jack recognized from fandom; a sergal with navy blue and white patterned fur.

As the guards holding him were incapacitated Vin and the wolf in question lead him back to the ladder. Jack began to climb but took a moment to look back at the scene with some surprise. The one named Sam, along with the female sergal, was fighting like little whirlwinds amidst the pain yowling and howling of said 'ass whooping' taking place. The sergal had a rather crazed grin on her face as she was taking joy in causing victims who fell to her additional pain, while Sam was fighting like he was the 'captain america' of this world, dealing crushing blows and never once being caught by surprise.

Eventually the Mane Medical retreated, Sam giving a lasting kick to a yipping canid to his tail as he and the sergal clutching hands in an almost brotherly manner before the two moved to follow. Once they all settled within their respective cockpits the helicopters took off, leaving the building behind. Jack found himself sitting next to the Vin who was in the middle next to Sam. His eyes found Sam's dark ones from behind the mask, and he shivered quietly and avoided his gaze respectively though still said in grateful tones, "thank you."

"Your welcome," Sam commented, moving to hold out a hand, "names Sam, though since your coming with us you will refer to me by my codename: Jackal."

"Right... "The other human commented, shaking Sam's hand, "I should thank you and your crew, I'd hate to imagine what would have happened if you guys hadn't gotten here in time."

"You would have been raped by the group of MM guards that captured, turn over to Jason, raped by him, turned over to Charles, raped by him, then experimented on, then used as a sex slave for the rest of your endearing life," Sam answered bluntly, "not the best way to go mind you, but I'm glad at the very least you know how to defend yourself."

"Heh, yeah lucky me," Jack chuckled, scratching the back of his head, "so what happens now?"

"Well we could just let you go on your own, but if you would like to put those defensive moves and perhaps learn better... New Dawn could always use another human."

"As long as you tell me everything I want to know of course, "Jack sighed, not seeing much choice but wouldn't hurt to try, after all if it meant seeing his friend Shawn again and protecting him it was well worth the trouble.

"Of course," Sam sounded like he was smiling behind his mask. He then wrapped an arm around Vin's shoulder, causing Jack to lift a brow as he quietly commented, "you alright?"

Vin moved to lean against him tiredly, commenting in annoyance, "should have gotten here sooner, bastard..." she said the last part quietly but her body language betrayed her as she placed a hand on his arm tiredly.

Jack decided not to question it, merely smiling as he asked, "So I guess I need a codename too?"

Sam looked up, "yes, did you have something in mind?"

Jack thought for a second before a sudden idea hit him, the nickname he had back in the good old days; he couldn't help but smile as Sam tilted his head curiously in response.

"I think I would like to be called 'Sentinel'."
