Just a story I have thought about writhing a while and finaly came around too.

There exists a world full of remarkable creatures with amazing abilities. They wander the land, soar through the skies and swim the deepest oceans. This is the wondrous world of pokemon.

Humans and pokemon live and fight together in pokemon battles, but this story takes place far from the lands of humans...

His name is Dash

Cory and her vulpix friend Sune made their way through the bushes towards the sound of running water.

"See, see, I told you there was a stream here." The joyful chikorita said as she skipped out of the bushes.

The small vulpine followed her friend into the clearing and noticed that there in fact was a stream of fresh, clear water running through it. Suddenly she froze and starred at something lying next to the stream.

"Cory, what is that?" she whispered timidly.

Cory stopped skipping around and looked towards the object by the stream. It was a body! She crept closer to examine it and noticed that it was a small pokemon. He was covered in brown fur with a white "collar" round his neck. But the strangest part was the thing hanging from his right ear. It looked like a strange kind of cross.

"Are you okay?" she asked as she nudged the unknown pokemon before her.

He stirred and began to wake up.

"Where... where am I?" he began to rise up, then he saw Cory and Sune and jumped backwards in shock. "You... you are pokemon?!"

"Of course we're pokemon," Cory replied slightly confused. "So are you. I mean, I have never seen a pokemon like you, but there are lots of pokemon that I've never seen so I'm pretty sure you are a pokemon because you can talk and if you can talk then that means you're sentient and, that is a funny word isn't it... sentient... what was I talking about? Anyway, what's your name? Are you alright? My name is Cory. I like poffins, do you like poffins? Oh! And this is Sune, she is shy. Are you shy? Your fur looks soft, is it soft? Can I feel? What is that thing in your ear?"

The nonstop flow of words made the stranger just stand there looking dumbfounded. As the stream of words continued he noticed his reflection in the water and jumped back again.

"I... I'm an eevee!"

"That's nice," Cory replied. "Why do you look scared? Do you scare easily? Why were you lying by the stream? Did something happen to you?"

"M... my name is Dash. I remember crossing a rope bridge... and falling into the river," he stopped as if realizing something. "How did I end up here?"

"I don't know. There isn't any rivers around here for miles. And I should know because I know this place like the back of my hand, I don't actually have hands, it's a figure of speech."

"His fur is wet."

They both turned to look at Sune. She seemed uncomfortable with the attention but continued.

"His fur is wet as if he'd been swimming but the stream is too small for that."

"I see," Cory mused. "It is just big enough to drink from. So if Dash's wet fur didn't come from the stream, where did it come from?"

"Probably from the same place that he is from. Remember that he said he fell into a river."

"Yes, that's right. Where are you from anyway, Dash?"

Dash turned his face away.

"I... I'm not sure. Are... are there any humans here?"

Sune and Cory froze.

"Humans? But they are just fairy tales," Cory said.

Dash was about to say something when a loud roar echoed through the clearing and a large creature landed in front of them. It was covered in a brown carapace and stood on two legs, its arms ended in a pair of massive scythe like talons.

"It's a kabutops! Run!" yelled Dash and bolted into the forest. Sune and Cory close behind. But the kabutops was faster and blocked their way. Sune let lose an ember attack but the larger pokemon didn't even pay attention to it.

"That won't work!" Dash exclaimed. "It's a rock and water type. Fire moves are almost useless."

Kabutops fired a powerful stream of water and mud from its mouth, just barely missing Sune, but still knocking her to the ground. Dash dug his front paw into the ground and flung some dirt towards the threat. In mid-air it transformed into a cloud of sand and hit kabutops right in the face blinding it. It gave up a terrible shriek and began flailing with its deadly scythe like arms.

"You're a grass type! Use a grass move." Dash yelled at Cory.

Cory swung the big leaf on top of her head, sending a swarm of razor leafs at the kabutops who was knocked over and fell to the ground.

"Sune! Do you know roar?" Dash asked as he helped her up. She nodded and gave of a roar that seemed more appropriate to a much larger creature then the small vixen. It tore into the kabutops, who was struggling to its feet, and sent it flying into the forest. The three small pokemon left as fast as they could, just in case the danger wasn't over yet.

Much later the trio arrived at a village by a trio of mighty mountains. By that time they had left the forest behind and were now traveling through a rocky terrain with much thinner foliage.

"What was the deal with that guy anyway?" Cory asked as they entered the village, finally feeling safer now that they were in public.

"No idea," Dash replied. "Maybe he got angry because we entered his territory or something."

"So he wasn't chasing you?" Sune asked giving Dash a look that indicated she did not fully trust him. "A water gun blast would explain why you were soaked when we found you."

"Except kabutops can't learn water gun," Dash countered. "The only water type attacks it can learn are aqua jet and in some cases bubble beam."

Sune became silent and looked ashamed.

"Wow! You know a lot about pokemon attacks!" Cory said.

"Excuse me for interrupting, but did I hear you mention a tussle with a kabutops?"

The three turned to face a huge archanine who had come up to them. He wore a nice green scarf around his neck that had some kind of symbol on it.

"Yes," Cory answered. "He was such a meanie. He just attacked us out of the blue and used a mud shot attack on Sune. But I hit him with my razor leafs so we could run away."

"I see," the archinine said and continued. "My name is Clint, I uphold the law in these parts, and that kabutops is a dangerous criminal that we have been after a long time. Can you tell me where and when it happened?"

After telling Clint everything they knew, which wasn't much really, he told them about the villainous kabutops.

"He's called Slitter and the reason he attacked you are probably because of your little vulpix friend. He likes fire types you see. I'll send a team to investigate the forest right away. Just be glad you all got away safely."

Sunes face became so pale that you could see it even through her fur.

"May I suggest that at least one of the pokemon in the team can use grass type attacks," Dash said as Clint turned to leave. "Fighting, electric and ground type moves should also be effective against him."

"I'll keep that in mind," Clint said and walked away.

Later they had rented a room in an inn and were making themselves comfortable. Cory had insisted to pay for Dash's board when she learned that he had no money.

"We are traveling to take part in the poke battle contest," Cory told Dash. "We have a long way to go but we have already become much stronger. Did you see how my razor leafs just blew that villain to his knees?"

"That was because grass type moves are super effective against him."

Cory winced a little at the remark. Not happy to admit that she was not as awesome as she had thought.

"Yes, but even if the damage was doubled it was still impressive that I managed to bring him to his knees in one shot."

"It wasn't doubled. He was a rock and water type, so the attack did four times normal damage," Dash explained and tried not to laugh as Cory's jaw hit the floor.

"Um... oh! Stay right here! I just have to go out for a while! Be right back!" she said and ran out of the room.

After she had left Dash tried to make some conversation with Sune but she just gave him short to the point answers that stopped any attempts to continue talking so he curled up in his bed to rest. After a while he heard Sune's voice.

"Dash... the reason you know so much about pokemon attacks... the reason you have that earring... you used to be owned by a human trainer, didn't you."

Dash sat up in a flash. Shock plain in his face. Sune stood by his bed. She looked as if she was about to start crying.

"He pierced your ear to mark you as his property and made you fight other pokemon didn't he?" she paused hesitantly. "I... I know this because I too used to belong to a human. They... they are really awful creatures aren't they!"

Dash didn't know what to say. Suddenly Cory rushed into the room and threw a bunch of papers on the table.

"Okay, Dash sign these."

Dash jumped out of his bed and went over to the table. The papers were full of strange writing that he could not read.

"What are these?"

"Registration forms. I'm registering you as our teams coach!"

"What!? Why?"

"Because with you as our coach we'll become super strong and win the tournament, silly! Just put a paw print here!"

Sune went over to Dash.

"Go ahead. Sign, it's not like you have anything better to do. Besides it would be fun to have another teammate."

Dash finally gave up and put a paw print on the papers. They were right. He didn't have anything better to do. And even if his memories were correct, and he really hoped they were, there was nothing he could do about it. He might as well stick with them for a while until he knew what to do.

After Cory had declared tonight "party night" they had stayed up late partying until they finally went to bed. Before Dash fell asleep he heard Sune's voice.

"Dash... sorry I accused you for causing that mess before. Good night."

That night he dreamt about a hyperactive Chikorita who wanted to win the prestigious poke battle championship and a shy vulpix who hated humans. He did not enjoy the later part.
