Dumb Love

By Kyvr

Aaron was not the smartest dog in the world, and he knew it. He hated being slow, hated being regarded as the "dumb jock." Among the other jocks, he was the slowest of them of all. At least that is what they always told him. It was not that he was not proud of his obvious physical gifts- he was a pure bred Rottweiler, taller than most furs and with wide shoulders and mass that made him a walking brick wall of black-and -tan-furred muscle. He loved sports, loved the competition, and he loved wrestling most of all. If it were not for wrestling, and his great skill and talent in the game, Aaron would have never seen the inside of a college campus. It was his first year and he was reeling from the different pressures. The recruiters emphasized the fact that Aaron had to keep good grades if he wanted to get into the big leagues. Aaron was not sure what he wanted to do with his life, but wrestling had gotten him this far, and he knew enough that he had to work hard to keep what he had wrestled out of life. Which is why when he got a simple book report assignment in his Communications class, Aaron was determined to get an A grade on it, or at least a C. Aaron had never seen a C grade in his life so far, and he was sure if he put his mind to it he could do it.

For a whole week he slaved over the report, staying in his dorm room at the Pure Breed Alpha House, a fraternity of pure breed dogs showing great academic promise, reading the assignment over and over, rewriting it several times, while juggling with his practice sessions and other classes. His roommate, Andrew, a Golden Retriever who sponsored him into the Alpha House, had mocked Aaron for working so hard on the meaningless project. "Don't worry about it," Andrew had said, "You're a Pure Breed man, all you gotta do is not get a totally sucky grade. This place wants you to pass man, you're a meal ticket, and that's all that matters." But Aaron kept on working on it. He had to prove to himself he was not stupid, that he was smart enough to get a good grade.

Which is why when the communications professor handed back Aaron's marked assignment, his world crashed around him and turned flaming red. He had to rush to class that morning from a early practice session, wearing his shorts and team jacket, showing of his bare, muscular chest. When he made it to class he was panting in part from running across the campus, and part in excitement over getting his assignment back and getting his well deserved grade. He had to struggle to compose himself and wait through an endless hour of class before the professor handed back his assignment. It was covered in red slashes, circles, and tiny lettered comments with tiny exclamation points. Aaron could not focus on the little criticisms plaguing the pages of his assignment, because of the huge circled "D -"on the top of the first page, right beside his typed name.

Aaron was a frozen statue for several long seconds, a boiling teapot made of frustration and muscle. His paws started crumpling the assignment, trying to conjure laser beams out of his boiling eyes to burn it, but the laser beams never came. Instead he shoved the assignment into his jacket pocket, ramming his fist into it, crumpling the paper to conform to the pocket with sheer angry force.

He could have talked to the professor. He could have looked at the assignment closer. But Aaron knew right then and there, with pent-up-and-not-going-anywhere rage, that he was stupid.

And there was nothing he could do about it.

Kevin's life began at college, or at least that is what it felt like to him. Throughout his high school career, the mutt dog was a shadow, a geek, a nerd, who was never really picked on but never really noticed. He did not have a bad life, he had friends and family, but he was so awkward during those years. When he did get bullied on, he hated it. He hated feeling so small, even though he was a good, 5 foot and 9 inches tall. The problem was that he was slender, and he was a mutt. He had the general outline of a German Sheppard, but he had light brown fluffy fur, especially around the collar, and two a-little-too-large-for-his-head ears, the left one always flopping over while the right one stayed up. He was always regarded as an awkward, quiet dog, and for the most part it was true, but when Kevin went to college something changed in him. He seemed to blossom on the campus.

The first thing that happened was he joined the gay and lesbian club on campus. He had not really planned to, it just happened. He always knew he was gay, but he was never really open about it. During the first week of classes he was strolling through the club booths in the courtyard, and saw the booth for the gay and lesbian club, and, all of a sudden, he joined. Just like that. He ousted himself to a bunch of strangers. He was never impulsive like that, Kevin was always really cautious, really careful, but now he was taking risks, and so far, it was doing a world of good for him. He had met some good friends in the club, and was really enjoying the campus life.

Kevin was looking forward to a good lunch with his new-found friends after the Communications class. He waited patiently throughout the class, making some minor notes. He did not really like the class; it was one the college forced all its first-years to attend, but it was easy marks. When Kevin was handed his marked assignment back, he hardly regarded the "B+" on it. He could have gotten an "A", but he was too busy enjoying himself and studying real subjects like computer graphics and technology to be bothered with proper essay structure. He slipped the assignment into his backpack, slung the pack over his shoulder as he got up, and looked towards the door leading out. He saw a large lion standing by the doorway, who saw him and waved. It was Clyde, who Kevin had met in the club. Waving back, Kevin made his way to the door, only to suddenly collide into a large black-and-tan wall of muscle as he turned.

Kevin looked up to see the angry face of a large Rottweiler staring down at him with unfocused anger. He was just beginning to apologize, when he saw the Rottweiler's eyes focus on the rainbow colored button he had on the strap of his backpack.

"What the fuck you think you're doing fag!" Aaron growled loud enough to plunge the room into silence, "Watch where the fuck you're going buttfucker!"

Kevin visibly gulped, and then silently cursed himself for doing so. He knew he needed to stand tall, to stand up to this massive wall of muscle, but all he could do was stand there and look pathetic like it was second nature. He felt useless, he felt angry at himself and the Rottweiler, he wished he could stand up to him. Kevin hardly noticed the movement behind him.

"HEY!" The simple word uttered by Clyde carried the weight of defying strength with it. Clyde was actually an inch or two taller than Aaron, and well muscled, as well as being a member of the wrestling team. He stood there with his arms crossed over his chest, with eyes glowering at Aaron, challenging him. Kevin could almost feel the shadow cast on him by Clyde. He swallowed the envy he had for his friend. If only he could be that imposing.

Aaron was in the mood for a fight, anything to take his mind off the crumpled assignment in his pocket. He glowered back at the lion. He knew Clyde was a good wrestler, he actually spared with him a couple times, but coach had warned them all about fighting with each other and getting into grudge matches. Aaron looked back down at the mutt he yelled at. The mutt stared at him with a strength that belied the puppyish look of his overgrown ears and fluffy fur.

With a huff Aaron left the mutt and the lion staring at him. He walked down the large hallways of the campus building, trying not to think too hard about the crumpled paper around his fist he had in his pocket.

Despite the day of the week, there was always a party every night at the Pure Breed Alpha House. The large, old, 3 story house was filled with members who were all canine and all of them pure bred, no cross-breeds or wild-breeds allowed. Many of the members were from affluent families, Aaron was an exception. If it was not for Andrew, Aaron would be bunking in some second-rate residence, instead of sharing a dorm room with Andrew, complete with daily maid service and rich-life perks. Andrew was the closest thing Aaron had to a friend, along with the other members of Pure Breed Alpha, but he knew the only reason Andrew sponsored him was because of his athletic ability. Andrew wanted to impress his higher-ups by bringing "top talent" into the fold, and Aaron took the opportunity when it came along.

The sun had gone down, and the classes were over, but Aaron was still sulking. He was slumped in a large recliner in the living room, slowly nursing a bottle of beer he had been drinking from for more than an hour. Aaron was glowering, at nothing in particular. Some of his fraternity brothers were drinking as well, talking loudly about raiding one of the sorority houses nearby.

"There he is," Andrew proclaimed as he walked into the living room, gesturing towards Aaron with a beer bottle in his paw. Andrew was a prime example of a Golden Retriever, with shining, well maintained brown-gold fur, neatly manicured, with bright, shining blue eyes that have snagged many females into his dreamy glances. He wore a pair of blue jeans, and his high school sports jacket, still clinging on to his past successes.

"First match of the year, next week, big man," Andrew said as he sat on the couch near Aaron. "You got qualified?"

"Yeah," Aaron huffed.

"What's with the attitude man?" Andrew asked, taking a swig of beer.

"Nothing."

"Hey, you can tell me," Andrew said, "We're here for each other man. I can get you what you want. You already got a beer, you want to blow off some steam? I know where we could get a bitch or two big guy." Andrew made a sly smile, looking over at the other fraternity brothers who were watching. They snickered. Some kind of private joke slipped between them that Aaron did not get.

"I just..." Aaron paused, wondering if he should tell Andrew. He was not sure if Andrew always meant the best for him, like he claimed, but he was the only friend Aaron had, "I failed that assignment I was working on."

Andrew almost spit out the beer in his muzzle, "You're worried about that shit!" Andrew got up, chuckling. The other fraternity brothers joined in.

"Dude," Neal, a purebred husky began, his speech slurred, "I hate to break it to you, but you're a fucking dumbass!" The others laughed harder.

"Now, now, now," Andrew calmed down the crowd, moving into the center of attention, "I gonna explain something to you big guy, but I'll probably have to explain it again a few times," the others laughed softly, "but you don't have to worry about the classes, okay? You're all set up, you got your sponsorship, you got place on the team, all you need to do is kick ass and you're on easy street."

"Dude," Neal interrupted, "I don't even go to those fucking classes! If I fail, my pop will buy my fucking diploma!"

"Now I admit," Andrew continued, "you don't have it as good as me, but you're still in the same club as we are dude. We don't have to worry about classes and marks and shit like that. Now, I know you're a fucking moron, but I think even you can figure that out. You get what I'm saying? Don't worry about that shit, just kick ass on the mat. That's all you got to do."

Aaron mulled over Andrew's words. Andrew was always telling him what to think, and he always seemed so sure of his advice. Aaron figured Andrew was right, but he was still angry over the assignment. Was he really that dumb?

"No worries dude," Neal interrupted Aaron's thoughts, "if they let you in in the first place, then they gotta be keeping you for some reason. Sure isn't your brains!."

Aaron said nothing as his fraternity brothers roared in laughter. He reached to get his beer, but found it was finished. He got up to get another from the fridge, when he decided he needed to go out for a walk to clear his muddled head. He grabbed his jacket, and walked out the door without telling anybody.

The incident in Communications class had left Kevin in a funk all day. He had to struggle into the evening to study for a computer technology course at the library, his mind always going back to the big Rottweiler and how he handled himself. He had finished studying, and was walking across campus, and was still weighing the options in his head. He thought about how useless he felt, and how useless he must have looked. He was glad Clyde was there to help, but he still wanted to be able to handle it by himself. Was he always going to be so weak? Was no one ever going to take him seriously?

Kevin was wondering about going to a gym and buffing up, when his idle eyes caught an alarming sight. He was walking down one of the many college foot paths through the green spaces of the campus, when, just in front of him, sitting on a bench, was the Rottweiler. The giant dog was mulling over some crumpled pieces of paper in his paws. Kevin wondered what he should do. The Rottweiler had not noticed him yet, he could just sneak around. A flare of defiant anger rose in Kevin when he thought of sneaking around the giant dog.

No, Kevin thought, I should be able to walk where ever I want. Defiantly, he continued on his path, coming closer and closer to the Rottweiler. A part of Kevin was crying out in terror, warning him to get ready to run, but it was silenced by the snarling alpha dog inside him urging him on. The alpha dog inside Kevin wanted the Rottweiler to see him, to challenge him, to give him another chance to be defiant and show what he was really made of.

The alpha dog inside Kevin was disappointed. The Rottweiler continued to stare at the papers in his paws as Kevin walked slowly by, not even noticing him. Kevin was not thinking went to he let out a disappointed sigh that was a little too loud in the night air.

"What?" Kevin heard the Rottweiler say in a surprised tone. "Did you say something to me?"

Kevin meekly turned towards the Rottweiler, who was looking at him with a confused look, until he recognized Kevin, and then the Rottweiler's face screwed up between being angry and regretful at the same time. "What is it?" Aaron asked the mutt in frustration.

"Nothing," Kevin whimpered out, and he turned to leave as the Rottweiler looked back down at the papers in his paw. Then, charged by sudden defiant energy, Kevin whipped back around and pointed an accusing dew-claw at the Rottweiler, "No, wait a minute," he began.

Aaron's head snapped up in surprise.

"You," Kevin continued, "You need to apologize. What you did was stupid. I mean, really, yelling at me like that? Do you even know who I am? Do you always yell at strangers?" Kevin rambled.

His eyes wide with surprise, "Okay," Aaron said, "I'm sorry," hoping to end the mutt's tirade.

"That's right," Kevin yelled triumphantly, the fur on the back of his neck quivering with fearful excitement, "you are. What's your problem anyway?"

Aaron was slammed by the question. As far as he could remember, no one had ever asked him what his problem was, they always told him what his problem was. Aaron thought hard on the question, filling the air with an unexpected silence that left Kevin growing more confused by the second.

"I guess," the Rottweiler started, "I'm just stupid."

"What?" Kevin shook his head.

"I'm stupid." Aaron repeated.

Kevin's thoughts suddenly went into reverse. He suddenly just plowed his way into unknown territory. "Okay," he said, not sure of what to do next.

"I mean," Aaron continued, suddenly pouring his feelings out, "I worked really hard on this, and everyone is always telling me how stupid I am, and I thought if I just worked hard on it I would be able to do it, but, I failed, and I guess, I'm just stupid," Aaron shrugged his shoulders sadly, "Guess, I'm just stupid and that's the way it is."

Kevin thought really hard about his next move. A huge part of him was urging him to just leave, let the large dog alone with his problems, it was not any of his business. A small part of him though was urging him on, seeing the Rottweiler is a different light.

"That's ridiculous," Kevin finally said, shaking his head, "you just need some help that's all. I'm sure you could get some help from the councilor's office or something."

A few long silence hung in the air until Aaron quietly said, "Okay," looking down at his crumpled assignment. Something in Kevin broke. The big Rottweiler looked so defeated, like he had just fought a long battle and lost.

"Or," Kevin suddenly heard himself talking, "I could help you."

Aaron looked up in surprise, "Really?"

"Well yeah," Kevin said, a part of him screaming for an explanation, "I mean it won't be a big deal. Whenever we get an assignment in Communications, we'll just study it together. We'll meet at the library and I'll proof read what you wrote. No big deal."

Aaron got up, mulling over the proposal. "You would really do that?"

"Yeah, I guess," Kevin slowly smiled, shrugging his shoulders, "It's kinda crazy, but yeah, I want to help you."

"Wow," the Rottweiler exclaimed, "I never had someone want to help me before."

"Really?" Kevin raised an eyebrow in disbelief.

"I guess," Aaron smiled, "Well, I guess, thanks, you know, that would be awesome."

"No problem."

"I'm Aaron," the Rottweiler said, extending his paw. "Kevin," the mutt shook Aaron's paw.

"And, uh," Aaron said nervously, "I'm really sorry about what I did. So you know, I got no problems with homos, I mean, some of the guys do, but I don't see the big deal."

"Sure, okay," Kevin said, walking away, "I'll see ya in class."

"Yeah," Aaron called, "See ya."

XXXX

"You did what?" Clyde spat a little too loud.

Kevin was eating lunch with Clyde and his boyfriend Bernard, a large bear, in one of the many cafeterias on campus. Clyde was struggling to chew the rest of the sandwich he just bit into when Kevin told them about what happened the other night.

"I wasn't thinking," Kevin admitted, "He seemed so helpless, and I hate being that way. I think I want to help him because I would want someone to help me."

"It's really nice of you," Bernard said, "but I don't know. He just agreed to it, just like that?"

"Yeah," Kevin shrugged his shoulders, "It was kinda weird. He just agreed to let some stranger help him like that. Makes me wonder what his social skills are like."

A low, grumbling growl of suspicion rose in Clyde's throat, "I don't like it. If he does anything, and I mean anything..."

"I'm sure I'll be fine," Kevin defended, "I don't know him that well, but something just tells me that he hadn't had much of loving support as some of us did. I think it could actually be that he has never had anyone want to help him."

"I just hope you know what you're getting into," Clyde grumbled.

XXXX

Kevin has no idea what he had gotten into.

During the first tutoring session, things seemed to be hopeless. Aaron was totally oblivious to any notion of proper paragraph or sentence structure, and got confused with the more complex use of punctuations. Kevin wondered how the Rottweiler had gotten through high school without being put into special classes. As time went on, and the sessions continued, Kevin found hope for the burly wrestler.

He found that, even though Aaron was far from being book smart, the Rottweiler's attention never wavered. Aaron listened to every word Kevin said, every piece of advice and criticism, and never made the same mistake twice. Kevin started to admire the big guy, and he never had someone actually listen to him, and trust him so much. Aaron thanked him every day for his help with just a simple smile and a wave.

By mid-term season, Kevin actually looked forward to his tutoring sessions with Aaron. He started noticing a lot of things he liked about Aaron: his well-sculpted body was a feast for the eyes for sure, but Kevin seemed to never get enough of the big dog's smile. Aaron was so eager and so enthusiastic, he dove right into the challenge of bettering himself, and Kevin could not help but be caught up in the Rottweiler's eager energy. He started liking the scent of musky maleness that followed the wrestler, not too diluted, but diluted just enough, by the showers Aaron had in a day. Kevin went to a few of Aaron's matches to cheer him on, and he was dismayed when he found Aaron would never acknowledge him in the crowd. At first he thought it was because of the other, more homophobic, members of the Pure Breed Alpha house, who were pressuring Aaron to keep his tutoring buddy a secret, but then Kevin noticed that the Rottweiler never paid attention to anybody in the crowd. Aaron's attention was always solely on the match, blocking out all distractions. Kevin came to see the same, honest determination Aaron had in his wrestling matches that he brought to his school work, and, again, Kevin found something he admired in the big dog.

When the mid-terms were ending, Kevin had realized his affections for Aaron. He had to be careful not to fall in love with the big lug.

XXXX

The sun was shining in both the sky and Aaron's smile. He strode down the college paths happily towards the Pure Breed Alpha House, his mid-term Communications exam, recently marked, grasped in his paw. It was a Friday night, the Friday night after mid-terms, and the whole campus was buzzing with pent-up energy ready to be released.

Andrew and Neal were in the kitchen, counting the cash they collected to buy as much booze as they could. It was a huge pile of crumpled bills, they made Neal salivate at the prospect of how drunk he was going to get. When Aaron walked in with his big smile, Neal perked up.

"What's with the stupid grin big man?"

"He's a winner," Andrew said not looking up, busy counting the bills, "Got into the college finals, on to the state!"

"Yeah," Aaron said happily, "and I got a B+ on my Communications exam!"

Surprised, Andrew stopped counting bills, and Neal was silenced for a whole two seconds.

"Miricles do happen," Andrew finally said, shrugging his shoulders before going back to counting.

Neil laughed, "Big fucking deal dumb wad!"

"Hey," Aaron frowned, "I worked hard on this!"

Neil laughed harder, "Whoppdeefuckingdoo!!!" he yelled, grabbing the exam from Aaron's paw, and looking at it. "'Good Improvement'" Neil sarcastically read the comment on the marked exam, "Fuck, it could have been a D and it still would have been an improvement."

Aaron huffed, "Better than you did. You didn't even go to class all year."

"Oooo," Neil jested, "I'm really going to need 'Communications' where I'm going. Say, that's a good point: when the fuck are you going to need 'Communications'? Are you going to be a big Communicator?"

Andrew said nothing, but chuckled softly.

"Whatever," Aaron said, walking towards Neil, who backed away slowly, teasing him with the exam paper, "I don't care what you think."

"This doesn't mean shit," Neil chided as he put two paw-fingers at the top of the exam papers and started ripping.

"Don't do that!" Aaron roared.

Neil ripped the papers a little bit more, a big, cruel smile on his muzzle.

"I'm warning you!" Aaron growled.

"Or what you big baby?" Neil laughed, ripping the papers a little bit more.

SMACK!!!

Aaron's fist slammed into the left side of Neil's head, causing him to fall down, his eyes loosing focus, and his tongue flapping mindlessly. Neil crumpled to the floor, moaning at the floor tiles his muzzle was kissing.

"Aaron!" Andrew yelled as Aaron bent over to get his exam papers, "Brothers don't hit brothers!"

"Oh shut up Andrew!" Aaron growled. Andrew was suddenly taken back at the challenge. Aaron never talked back before. "Where the fuck were you all those times people made fun of me, huh?" Aaron continued, "You say you're my best friend, that you're my loyal frat brother, so why do you always laugh at me? Why do you do nothing about guys making fun of me?"

Andrew struggled to argue back, tried to get back on top as the alpha dog, but all he could muster was, "We were just joshing you, yah know, shits and giggles."

"Yah, okay," Aaron yelled, "I'm stupid. Haw haw," he mocked sarcastically. "I might be stupid, but I know when a joke gets old!"

With a small growl Aaron stomped towards the door leading outside, "He'll be fine," he said under his breath, glancing at the moaning Neil.

"You sure?" Andrew asked.

Opening the door, Aaron gave Andrew a defiant look, wrinkling his muzzle in a mock-snarl, "I'm a wrestler dumb ass! I know what it's like to get knocked in the head!"

XXXX

Kevin was just packing up his small duffel bag when he heard the knock on his dorm room door. Unlike Aaron, Kevin had to share a bedroom with a complete stranger in a rundown residence. Fortunately, Kevin's roommate had failed his classes and was moving out, giving him the whole room to himself for a while.

When Kevin opened the door, he was surprised to see Aaron taking up most of the doorway, a big welcoming smile on his face.

"I never thought I would see you here," Kevin welcomed Aaron in.

"Well," Aaron began, "I just came over to show ya' my exam," he said, showing Kevin the exam papers.

"Way to go!" Kevin applauded, seeing the grade, "It's ripped..."

"Yeah," Aaron dismissed, "It's nothing."

"I'm really proud of you Aaron," Kevin said, handing back the papers.

"Yeah," Aaron said softly, "Thanks."

Kevin nodded, and a uncomfortable silence fell between them.

"I mean it," Aaron said, "thank you, so much. I don't know what I would do without you, man."

Kevin blushed under his fur, and could only manage to nod.

"You're a great guy, you know that?" Aaron said plainly.

Kevin gulped, trying to get a read on the situation. His mind suddenly went into a chaotic spiral, imagining unlikely scenarios, some romantic, some pornographic, some totally disastrous, of what could happen in the next millisecond if he said the right or the wrong thing. Kevin could only manage to blush a little bit more and scratch nervously at the back of his neck.

"It's gonna suck not having you in my classes," Aaron said finally, shrugging his shoulders.

"I'll see you around, I'm sure," Kevin said, struggling not to stutter.

"Yeah," Aaron said, turning towards to door, "See ya around."

The Rottweiler was almost out the door when Kevin called "Hey!" a little too louder than he intended to. Aaron stopped in his tracks and looked at Kevin inquisitively. "I'm sure you got plans tonight," Kevin said, "but some friends and I are going to the beach tonight. It would be cool if you could join us," Kevin shrugged his shoulders weakly, "If you want to?"

Kevin's heart thumped against his rib cage for the eternal seconds of silence that fell between them. Aaron was looking into space, his brain working over something. Kevin was sure Aaron was just giving a polite silence before declining the invitation.

"Ya know," Aaron started slowly, "I think I will. If you're sure it's okay."

"Yeah," Kevin said breathlessly, "Cool."

XXXX

The sun was setting into the hazy, orange horizon as the two dogs took on the lion and the bear on in a game of volleyball on the beach. Clyde and Bernard were an imposing pair, two large, thick furs ready for anything the canines could throw at them. Kevin felt pretty puny matched up with Aaron. He was only a half foot shorter than the Rottweiler, but it did not help when most of his mass came from his fluffy brown fur and long red shorts on his slender frame. Kevin had to try hard not to stare too much at Aaron. The Rottweiler smooth black and tan fur shined against his large defined pecs and abs, which he made no effort to hide, with a pair of blue and green trucks that managed hang a little loosely around his large, muscled thighs.

The game was going well nevertheless, and the furs were enjoying themselves. The game came to an unexpected end however, when Aaron launched himself in the air to hit the ball incoming towards him, smacking it back over the net with all his might. Both Bernard and Clyde dove for it, but missed. The large bear fell face first into the sand, the lion falling on top of the bear a moment later. Bernard grumbled, and rolled onto his back, but Clyde just lifted himself up a little with his arms, the nose of his muzzle almost touching his boyfriend's as he turned up.

"We missed the ball," Bernard grumbled.

"You missed the ball," Clyde corrected, the long strands of his mane forming a think, brown veil around their faces, "I landed exactly where I wanted to." With a slight growl, Clyde leaned in to give Bernard a passionate kiss, which the bear eagerly returned.

Kevin glanced nervously towards Aaron, to see the Rottweiler tilting his head like a confused puppy, staring at the two boyfriends making out.

"Look," Kevin said, "I'm sorry, I should have..."

"Huh?" Aaron snapped out of his confusion, "Oh!" he waved a dismissing paw towards the lovers. "I was just confused, I thought Clyde was your boyfriend."

"What?" Kevin said with a surprised smile.

"You know, he stood up for you, when," Aaron looked around shamefully, "you know, I yelled at you."

"Oh," Kevin made sure he gave a comforting smile, "No. Clyde was just being Clyde."

Knowing it would probably be best to leave the two boyfriends alone for the moment; Kevin walked over to his ice bag and grabbed two coolers, offering one to Aaron, who happily accepted it. The two canines started walking down the empty boardwalk, most of the beach goers were packing up, and heading towards some of the bars and clubs along the beach line. Kevin started to feel really comfortable with the big Rottweiler, who just silently and loyally walked beside him, enjoying the night air brought in by the breeze of the ocean.

"Can I ask you something Aaron?" Kevin broke the silence.

"Sure," Aaron looked down at him with a smile. He stopped walking and leaned on a railing, facing the ocean.

"Don't take this the wrong way," Kevin started, leaning on the railing himself beside Aaron, "but why was getting a good mark in Communications so important?" When he saw Aaron's smile vanish, and his frowning eyes look down to the boards, Kevin defended himself, "I mean, it's just, Communications is just some nonsense course the college makes us all take. It's not going to get you a diploma or anything. I was more than happy to help you, you know that. I just want to understand why it was so important to you."

Aaron turned towards the beach line, leaning both of his elbows on the railing, looking towards the sun that was almost set. "I don't know," he said softly, "I guess it's because, it's because I don't want to go back home."

"What do you mean?" Kevin asked, moving closer to the Rottweiler.

"I don't know," Aaron dismissed at first, not feeling comfortable. He did not want to talk about it, but Kevin was his friend, his good friend, and he deserved an answer. "I guess home, for me, is not a really happy place."

Kevin struggled to stay silent, knowing he should let Aaron take time to go on.

"I didn't have it too bad, I guess," Aaron shrugged, "I have a mom and dad, and a good house and all, but I never felt loved there." Aaron looked at Kevin, his eyes moist, "My mom, when she had me she had a litter of four. Two of them died when they were born, and my one brother died when he was three, something wrong with his heart. After that mom didn't pay that much attention to me. I think it's because she was afraid to get close to me, so she shut herself off. She still never calls me, or sees how I'm doing. My dad," Aaron paused.

"My dad hit me a lot. He'd get drunk and come home, hit me if I was around. Most of the time it was just a smack on the head," Aaron shrugged, "Sometimes though..."

Kevin could not help but put a caring paw on Aaron's arm, his fear of keeping distance from Aaron was disappearing fast.

"It isn't a big deal," Aaron assured, "Mom never did anything about it, but once I got bigger than dad, well, he didn't hit me anymore."

Aaron fell silent, and Kevin felt his paw grip the Rottweiler's arm tighter. Please God, Kevin thought, Let him let me love him. He needs me. He needs me to love him. God, please let him love me, so I can love him, Kevin's silent prayer raced through his head.

"You know what's funny," Aaron interrupted Kevin's thoughts, turning to face him, "I used to think that was normal, you know? That's just how it was. You know what changed my mind?"

"You," Aaron answered, "You made me feel good, Kevin. You made me feel special, like I'm worth something. For the first time in my life I was actually looking forward to see you everyday. I don't think I ever had a true friend like you Kevin. That's how special you are, I hope you know that."

All semblance of restraint melted away in a blazing flame within Kevin, and he lunged forward, trying his best to wrap his arms around the big dog, meshing his face into Aaron's warm chest, squeezing his eyes shut and hoping to never let go, never let anything bad happen to this wonderful dog ever again.

Then the cold storm of realization came in, a hard mental slap in the face that reminded Kevin who he was hugging, and suddenly his thoughts, only pure and innocent a moment ago, were know crying doom and gloom. He could have just ruined everything, ruined the special friendship he had by trying to get more. Pushing himself off of the big dog, abandoning the wonderful feel of warm flesh and fur, Kevin looked up at Aaron's face with impending doom.

He was greeted by a smile. A little surprised, but pleasant smile.

"Sorry," Kevin muttered, letting go of the Rottweiler's waist.

"Sorry for what?" Aaron chuckled, "Most guys when they hug me are trying to take me down, or squeeze the life out of me. That was nice."

Kevin blushed, scratching the fur on the back of his neck.

"How do you do that Kevin?" Aaron asked, "You always know how to make me feel nice."

"Really?" Kevin breathed out, surprised.

"Well, yeah," Aaron explained, "I mean, just now, that felt nice and warm. I don't think I was ever hugged like that before. "

"So," Kevin's heart thumped, "Does that mean you wouldn't mind if I hugged you again?"

Aaron responded by widening his smile, and opening his big, muscular arms, inviting Kevin in. The mutt took the invitation, throwing himself in, joining the Rottweiler in a genuine embrace. Kevin sighed contently as he felt the warmth of Aaron's body, the embrace of his strong arms, and comforting beat of his large heart. He looked up at Aaron with dreamy eyes, filled with awarded bliss.

"I love you," he cooed.

"Really?" Aaron asked in honest surprise.

"I have to be honest with you," Kevin said as he lifted himself from Aaron's chest, but not breaking their embrace, "I really, really love you, and I would love for us to be together, to be boyfriends, and maybe something more. But if you don't love me that way, it's okay. I don't want you to be with me if you think you have to Aaron. I want you to be with me because you love me. Do you understand?"

Aaron thought as hard as he could. As far as he knew, he had never been loved before. He never knew what it felt like to be in love. Looking back on his life, it seemed that, until now, it had been a long, dreary road of anger and staleness. It was not until Kevin came that he knew there was something more. It was not until Kevin came that he knew there was hope. It was not until Kevin came that he felt like more than just another person letting life pass by. Kevin was the key to it all.

"I think," Aaron let the words form slowly, "I love you."

Kevin wanted to make sure, to interrogate Aaron, to really find out if Aaron was just saying it to please him, for his sake, not for his own. Aaron had lived his life so far doing what other people have told him to do, what other people have told him what he could not do, and Kevin did not want to be one of those people leading Aaron around on some cruel leash. He wanted to be Aaron's choice.

All Kevin's words were swallowed up and silenced where he looked into the Rottweiler's eyes and found a massive treasure of honest admiration and love. Slowly, Kevin's muzzle moved to touch Aaron's. Their wet, soft lips met. Aaron's eyes flashed in surprise, and immediately dimmed as the simple pleasure wove around him. Kevin's hot tongue started caressing Aaron's muzzle, the silky smoothness causing Aaron to gasp, and let the tongue in. At first Aaron concentrated hard, trying to comb his brain for the pitiful library of knowledge he had on kissing, but then he let go, letting his broad tongue wrap around Kevin's, a wet, hot embrace that connected them together. Kevin's moan traveled from his chest, past his beating heart, through their wondrous connection, vibrating into Aaron's mouth to be met by a deeper moan belonging to the Rottweiler.

Exploring new territory, Aaron's paws roamed over Kevin's body, relishing in the warmth and softness. His right paw resting finally on Kevin's round, firm butt cheek, squeezing it as an experiment, and getting a yelping moan in response. Aaron pressed harder against the butt cheek, loving the feel of its fleshy roundness, grinding Kevin's groin into his own. The pleasure that erupted from his crotch when Kevin's rubbed against it came with a surprising hardness.

Breaking the kiss unlocked the passionate heat between them, leaving them panting at each other. Kevin rested his head under Aaron's chin, a contented look on his face. Aaron wrapped his arms tighter around the mutt, holding him closer, a big, dumb smile on his face.

Suddenly a random thought raddled through Aaron's brain. "I guess this makes me gay, huh?" a statement of honest fact.

"Yeah," Kevin mused, "Kinda."

"Do I have to do anything?" Aaron asked with a worried look on his face, "Do I have to get one of those rainbow buttons?"

"You did what you needed to do," Kevin chuckled, "and, don't worry, we can get you a button later."

They spent an eternity holding each other in the night, the water crashing peacefully on the shore.

XXXX

The move did not take long because Aaron only had a few boxes of possessions, and the trip was a short one across the campus. The canines of the Pure Breed Alpha House were stunned when Aaron decided to leave them; they had no idea how to react because, as far as they knew, they were never the ones being rejected. Andrew resorted to begging Aaron to stay, resorted to offering money and other services, but nothing Andrew could offer would mean as much to Aaron as living with Kevin would be.

Kevin's second-rate dorm room was small, but it had its own bathroom. Aaron's clothes had to be stuffed in with Kevin's in the closet, and his books had to go underneath the bed. By the time they were done unpacking, it was the late afternoon, the orange sun shining softly through the two windows of the main room, its rays casting through the leafy trees outside.

"Well," Kevin sighed, folding up the last of the boxes, "Here it is."

The Rottweiler, folding the last of his gym wear and stuffing it onto the shelf in the closet, responded with a simple smile.

"It's not that great," Kevin admitted, "the people down the hall are always throwing loud parties, and there is no noise absorption with these thin walls, and the toilet runs sometimes. Jiggle the handle," Kevin let out another nervous sigh, "Altogether not the greatest place."

"You're here," Aaron simply said. It was a simple statement of fact, not exactly meant as a flirtatious comment, but Kevin loved how the Rottweiler would say such loving things, without the intention of wooing him. Aaron simply said what was is his simple, lovely world, and Kevin loved him for it.

"So, uh," Aaron started, scratching his arm, "I noticed there was only one bed."

"Oh!" Kevin exclaimed, perking up. "Well you see," he explained, "there was two beds, but I knew immediately from looking at them they were way too small for you."

"Oh."

"So, I got them to put the two beds together. Yeah know, I don't want you falling off your bed when you toss around in your sleep."

"I guess," Aaron said with an unsure smile, "but what about you?"

"Come over here, lie down," Kevin motioned to the bed. Loyally, Aaron walked over, and laid down on the bed covered in soft blankets. He spread himself out, taking up most of the mattress, putting his head on the second pillow. As soon as Aaron was comfortable, Kevin laid down beside him, bringing a smile to Aaron's muzzle. Kevin snuggled his body into Aaron's, the big dog wrapping his arm around the mutt and holding him close.

"I thought this could be the sleeping arrangements," Kevin said with a lick to Aaron's nose. Aaron's response was a growl of pleasure, and leaning in to give Kevin a deeper kiss. Their muzzles separated, and the two lovers rested for a few peaceful, simple moments, listening to the soft noises around them.

"Aaron?" Kevin broke the silence, "I was wondering something."

"Yeah?"

"If you don't think so it's okay, but I was thinking that we were ready to take things to the next level," Kevin said, raising himself up and laying on top of Aaron's chest, muzzle to muzzle with his lover. "I want to make love to you Aaron. I want it if you want it."

Kevin could feel Aaron's heart beat faster and harder, and a big smile formed on Aaron's muzzle.

"I had a dream last night," Aaron said, Kevin slightly confused, "I was having sex with you. It was weird and confusing, because, you know, it was dream. But when I woke up, I thought that I would really like that. I love you Kevin."

"You'll fuck me then?" Kevin made his best attempt at dirty talk.

"Yeah, definitely."

Kevin sat up, putting on a show, slowly stripping off his shirt and tossing it to the floor. Both canines started breathing heavily in lustful anticipation. "Have you ever fucked someone Aaron?" Kevin asked as his unzipped his pants.

"Yeah," Aaron said, rolling his eyes.

"What?"

"It was some girl that just was with me because she wanted to be with Andrew, if you know what I mean."

Kevin nodded, "I see," he regretted asking the question.

"But it wasn't that great," Aaron admitted, "I mean, we're just starting and already it's a thousand times better."

Kevin smiled, stepping off the bed, and turning his back towards Aaron. The Rottweiler sat up with an elbow on the mattress, quickly stripping of his shirt so he would not miss the show. With his head turned towards his mate, giving him a sly smile, Kevin pulled down his pants, revealing his round, firm butt and slender legs accented with fluffy, brown fur, and a fluffy tail that would not stop wagging. Aaron panted heavily at the sight, giving a small, yipping bark in encouragement.

Kevin chucked, turning around to give the Rottweiler the entire package. Aaron's eyes blatantly went straight to Kevin crotch. The mutt's cock was already half stiff with excitement, hanging outward limply at a good nine inches. His crotch was covered in creamy blond soft fur, his smooth balls shadowed by the red-pink slick cock, emerging out of its sheath that still contained the knot.

To Kevin's surprise, Aaron let out a slight chuckle, "Figures," he said.

"What 'figures'?" Kevin asked as he walked over to the bed, grabbing Aaron's pant legs.

"Skinny guys always get the long cocks," Aaron said, shrugging his shoulders, "Something I noticed in the showers."

"Really?" Kevin teased as he pulled roughly at Aaron's pant legs. The Rottweiler desperately reached down to undo his pants, just before Kevin pulled again and the pants came off with no effort. Kevin threw the pants to the floor, to be hit by a wondrous sight.

Aaron rested back on his bed, spreading out his smooth, muscular body. Kevin's eyes followed where the brown-tan fur started on the big dog's chest, over the mounds of the pecs, down to his smooth crotch. His cock was not as long as Kevin's, but it definitely had girth. The black cock stood stiffly, several thick veins along its slick surface. The large knot, almost as big as the Rottweiler's fist, had popped right out of his sheath, his large, bulbous balls flexing in anticipation.

Kevin leaped upon his lover, diving his muzzle towards Aaron's, grinding their cocks together, interrupting their deep kiss by the heavy moans they both gave out. Giving a parting lick to the Rottweiler's nose, Kevin made a quick trip down Aaron's vast, thick body, grasping the treasured black cock, Aaron's gasping at the pressure around his member.

Kevin wasted no time, giving the thick, ebony cock a long, loving lick, becoming addicted to the salty, musky taste. All of Aaron's muscles tensed at the same time as the virgin pleasure hit his body. Driven by Aaron's growls and moans, Kevin wrapped his tongue around the Rottweiler's cock, attacking it from all pleasurable angles, before slipping his whole muzzle around it. The room was filled with vulgar slurping sounds and the growling yips coming from Aaron.

Kevin looked up, and was delighted to see the big dog's whole body quivering, the soft-furred muscles pulsating with the pleasure he was giving his lover. Kevin started tasting musky pre-cum leaking from his lover's cock, when Aaron almost yelled, "Kevin, wait!"

"What?" Kevin said, a thin strand of saliva still attaching his muzzle to the cock below his chin.

"I want," Aaron breathed, "I want to do you," the Rottweiler was a little disappointed at himself for not being very eloquent, but Kevin gave a slight smile of understanding. Kevin did not want to give up his position quite yet though, so he go on the bed, rear first, moving his ass-end towards Aaron.

Confused at first, Aaron's smile went wider as he used his paws to travel down Kevin's smooth legs, ending up grasping the two smooth, round buttocks that Aaron loved. Kevin let out a slight yip, his mouth gone back to enveloping Aaron's cock. Keeping one paw grasping a butt cheek, Aaron used his other paw to grasp Kevin's long, pink cock and bring it closer to his muzzle. Not knowing he would enjoy the experience, Aaron nevertheless gave the underside for the cock a long lick. Kevin gasped, his muzzle letting Aaron's cock loose. Aaron found Kevin's musky taste to his liking, giving the underside more long licks and giving the thick, pointed tip loving kisses. Kevin struggled to get back to sucking Aaron's cock, trying to add to the pleasure coming from his cock.

Aaron found that he loved it all. The feel of the cock on his tongue, the musky taste, the yips and moans of pleasure coming from Kevin. His eyes looked up, to be greeted by the sight of Kevin's pink rosebud underneath his frantic tail. Consumed with pleasure and curiosity, Aaron stopped licking Kevin's cock, and gave the silky rose bud a darting kiss. Kevin's surprised gasp only drove Aaron to lick at the tailhole harder, lathering the butt crack with think saliva. Kevin moaned loudly, completely captivated by the new pleasures coming from his ass.

After an eternity, Kevin gasped "Aaron."

Aaron gave Kevin's rosebud one last lick before stopping, leaning his head to the side to make eye contact with his lover.

"Get me ready," Kevin said, breathing heavy, "I want you to fuck me."

Confused at first, Aaron nodded, then wetted a paw finger. Teasing the tailhole with the dew claw, along with several loving licks, Aaron pushed into his lover's tailhole. Slowly he massaged the hot muscles, relaxing them. Kevin did his best to stay relaxed, keeping his mind on his body, his mind straying to thoughts of the impending pleasure. It seemed too long before Aaron was able to push two paw fingers inside, Kevin moaning when Aaron found the right spot to tease with his fingers. Trying to not be distracted by the pleasure, Kevin stroked the ebony cock below him to keep it good and hard, the scent of the musky pre-cum dripping down it driving him wild.

His heart fluttering with anticipation, Kevin finally sat up, turning himself to face his lover, straddling his waist. Aaron took hold of his cock, pointing it on target, as Kevin, spreading his butt cheeks, slowly lowered himself. Both canine lovers let out yelping moans as the mutt's anus engulfed the Rottweiler's ebony cock. Both canine lovers were panting wildly, wild strands of saliva dripping from their tongues, taking in every pleasure-filled moment, focusing on making the penetration as painless and as pleasurable for both of them.

Finally, Kevin felt Aaron's thick knot kiss his tailhole, and marveled at the wonder of being filled with the hot, pulsating flesh of his lover. Aaron, the hot, embracing pleasure shooting along his cock almost causing him to go wild, struggled to keep control. He loved what was happening, the pleasure he was sharing with Kevin, but he knew he had to be careful, be as gentle as possible. Kevin looked down at him with a satisfied smile, and Aaron slowly thirsted into his lover, his pecs and quads pulsating in a dance of pleasure.

Kevin, filled with erotic excitement, knew something was wrong at first. He relished at the feeling of the wet hotness within him, but he knew it could be better. He leaned down, using his arms to hold him up, changing the position of the sliding penetration. Suddenly, Aaron's cock pushed at Kevin's pleasure spot, and the mutt moaned. Finding the perfect position, Kevin added his on thrusts to Aaron's, grinding the cock into his pleasure spot, a growing orgasmic tightness filling his belly.

Hearing his lover's loud moans and growls, Aaron started to thrust harder and faster, letting the wild dog inside him loose. Pushing his paws on Kevin's ass, driving his cock in, Aaron tried to ask Kevin something, but was too lost in pleasure. Nevertheless, as if he had heard the unasked question, Kevin managed to let out, "Knot me," he moaned, "Oh please God, Knot me."

Needing no more encouragement, Aaron gave the ultimate thrust, letting out a growling moan as Kevin's ass wrapped his tender knot. He was fully in, his cock and Kevin's ass creating an ultimate connection. Aaron swore he could almost feel everything, like he and Kevin shared their pleasure. He swore he could feel both the pleasure of penetration and being penetrated, he could feel both Kevin's cock sliding wetly across his abs and the pleasure of the long cock rubbing against smooth furred muscle. Suddenly, with little warning, the hot, orgasmic rush overtook Aaron's body, coming from all nerves in his body and rushing towards his cock, and sending out a massive tidal wave of pleasure, spewing out in a climax of molten eruption. Aaron thought he must have let out a mighty roar, but in truth, he let out a long whining growl, thrusting automatically into Kevin before collapsing into the bed.

Kevin was surprised as well when he felt the liquid warmth filling him. His thoughts raced as he finally realize that he did it, he made love, he made Aaron feel love, gave him a wonderful gift they could both share, and they would share many, many times more. His thoughts were interrupted when the tight orgasmic energy in his belly suddenly released, and shot into every corner of his body. Kevin let out a howl as his cock, fully erect in majestic glory, shot out several mighty pearl streams, splattering on Aaron's body and on his muzzle. Sputtering out several more streams, Kevin let out small yelps as his sensitive cock pleasantly tortured him more, finally coming to rest.

Licking idly at the cum splattered on his muzzle, Aaron regained enough composure to grab hold of Kevin as the mutt went limp from expended pleasure. Gently holding his lover, keeping in mind his knot still connecting them, Aaron laid Kevin down onto his chest. Resting Kevin's muzzle below his chin, Aaron finished licking his lover's seed off his face, relishing its warm musky taste. Kevin nuzzled his lovers chin, letting out loving growls and whines.

The aftermath of pleasure washed over them in gentle waves that grew weaker and weaker, until all that was left was the warmth of their bodies, and the scent of their love hanging in the air. After a long while, Aaron's knot came loose, and the lovers celebrated their first love making with another tight hug and long kiss.

"Kevin?" Aaron spoke out.

"Yeah?" Kevin let out a satisfied sigh.

"Thank you," Aaron said with a big smile, "I wish I could say more, but all I know is just to say thank you."

Kevin chuckled softly, "You don't need to say anymore, 'Thank you' is more than enough."
