#6 of Memories

Hehheh. Here's the final part everyone. I'm glad I've been getting positive reviews from throughout the memories saga and I hope you all start to enjoy my other books as well after this.

Alexander finally remembers his past and decides to give Cybil a big surprise. Throughout the morning, he can't stop thinking about her and is happy to see the mirror begin to glow, indicating that she is returning. Will she accept his proposal to his question? Will she marry him, even if it means going against the world?

Alex awoke with a smile on his face and he quickly got out of bed. Removing some curtains from a nearby window, Alex basked in the rising sun's rays before getting dressed in some fancy looking clothing. A neat pair of black pants and a white dress shirt that he left untucked as he walked downstairs. The clock on his stove in the kitchen read nine thirty seven, an hour and a half before Cybil returned. He was excited for today was the day he was going to propose to her.

He remembered everything about their past, the times they spent together and the moments were they were happy. Alex knew that with her, anything was possible and he wanted to spend every waking moment with Cybil, even if it meant leaving behind the people he once called friends and family. All of these he thought as he cooked quickly, practically inhaling the food.

After quickly whipping out breakfast, Alex opened the draw containing the ring he was going to propose with and he slid it into his pocket. Afterwards, he went outside to look about for a place to propose and then it hit him: Underneath the tree fort in the forest. It was where they constantly played when they were but small children and he knew it was the perfect place. It'll bring back good memories, happy ones.

At this time of the year, the tree would grow beautiful flowers, of what kind of tree it was, he had no idea. But it was perfect and he knew that the location will be romantic for both of them. After all, who wouldn't find an old childhood memory that brought them close together find it romantic? And he did say that she would get married in his back yard, he just didn't say to whom it be that she would marry.

With a wide grin, Alex made his way back to the house where he began to make a meal for Cybil. Nothing special. Just some eggs, bacon and fried potatoes which he afterwards placed on a plate. Plate in hand, Alex made his way upstairs to see the mirror beginning to glow and he placed the food on the end table nearby. Smiling, he walked up to greet her, expecting to see Cybil's smiling face once more.

But it wasn't what he was expecting. As the glow dissipated, Alex saw in horror Cybil trying to stop a large red Draconian wearing heavy plate armor holding a wood chair high over his head, his scaly lips pulled back in a snarl as he threw the chair at Alex.

He had only enough time to spin around and he held his hands over his head, half expecting to feel the chair smash into him. But it wasn't a chair he felt hit his back as a sudden crash of breaking glass was heard and Alex turned to see that the glass of the mirror was shattered. The broken glass of the mirror raining around him slowly, as though time itself slowed down around him and he watched in horror as it fell.

Looking back up, Alex saw that the mirror was destroyed. All his gaze met now was the empty wooden back of the golden rimmed mirror, no sign that it was once a doorway to his love. Bending down, Alex picked up a shard of glass and began to weep, believing that he would never again see her face. He soon felt warmth drip from his hand and he opened his eyes to see blood dripping forth.

It did not feel good, as it proved that he was not dreaming, that the mirror was indeed broken and he would never again feel her gentle touch. Alex opened his hand t stare log and hard at the shard in his hand, suddenly feeling an emptiness form in his heart.

It wasn't fair; he had just remembered everything only to feel her ripped away from him. he was about to propose to her, for the love of Christ! He had remained faithful and yet what god would do this to them? Why did that draconian throw the chair? Why? Why? WHY?!

None of these questions were answered and he slowly began to cry, placing his fists in front of him as he leaned froward and crumpled into a fetal position. He felt shards of glass ripping through his clothing and into his skin, but he ignored it, the pain in his chest too great. With a sudden gasp, he gave out a roar of a dying animal and continued to cry, the now broken mirror standing guard once more over him.

WHIRRRR! WHIRRRR! WHIRRRR!

Alex awoke to see the bed springs of a military bunk bed above his head. He slowly raised his head to see a tall man wearing a Canadian military suit standing at the end of the barrack block, his phone held high while a microphone was held in his other. With sigh, he quickly pulled himself out of his assigned bed and began to fold it neatly. After a firm nod at his handiwork, He made his way to his chest at the end of his bed and pulled out his uniform and some hygiene items.

With these in hand, Alex made his way to the back and walked into a nearby shower that wasn't being used, where several other soldiers of the Canadian force were already taking their own shower. Removing his pajamas, he quickly turned the shower on and bathed in the warm water. He saw his reflection in a small mirror next to him and he leaned in for a better look.

The last six years have not been kind to him as he appeared even older than twenty seven years. This was larger to the fact that his love had disappeared all those years ago and he had fallen into a deep depression. He was still in it, in fact, as he had once more dreamed of their reunion last night. but even with the added wrinkles, he was often flirted with by both higher commanding officers and lower ranking soldiers that work along with him.

With a sigh, he turned the water off and shivered as he dried himself off with a towel, the brisk morning air blowing in from outside as he did so. Afterwards he quickly changed into his uniform and made his way out the front doors of the barracks and onto the military base located on the eastern shore western shore of USA. Alex quickly made his way to the canteen, where he lined up to get his breakfast.

With food in hand, he sat by himself near the far end of the room and ate the rubbery eggs and the tasteless ham and sausages given to him in silence. He stopped for a moment, when his gaze met the scar located on his right hand. His fault for that as he had been required to get several stitches from squeezing a shard of glass too hard. The shard of glass that came from the same mirror six years ago.

He jumped when someone sat in front of him, slamming a platter to gain his attention with a loud bang and bringing him back to the present. Looking up, he was surprised to see a brown haired youth younger than him sitting in front of him, electric blue eyes meeting his as the man smiled and held his hand out to him. Alex smiled and shook it willingly fro he knew who it was.

"Been a year since I last saw you, Roen Vossler." He chuckled as another man sat next to Roen. This one had dark black hair that ran to his shoulder with brown eyes. He was bigger too, taller than Alex with muscles that look like they could lift a car. But Alex knew that Vladimir Lodge wouldn't even hurt a fly.

"Any news on...ya' know, the search." Roen asked, looking around as he finished the last part. He and Vladimir were the only ones that knew of why Alex had joined the army. Surprisingly, Vladimir did not care for the information of Alex but Roen seemed to believe him strangely. they met over five years ago, back when the three were stationed here fro the first time and, strangely enough, at the same time. However, Roen and Vlad were given an assignment and Alex hasn't been able to see his friends since then. Oddly enough, they told him that they came from Canada as well, despite Vlad obviously having a russian accent.

Alex sighed as he placed more meat in his mouth. "No. Nothing, I just can't seem to find the damn doorway." The doorway Alex spoke of was a door he had learned that lead from earth to Arukk, Cybil's world, but he did not know where exactly it was. So instead, he joined what would be able to get him access to the entire world: The Canadian army. The first year he was simply trained, then was sent over to USA to act as a guard for planes.

Roen looked at Alex sadly, placing his hand on the older man's hand. "Don't worry. I know you'll find her, you just have to keep looking." He consoled gently. Alex only sighed as he stood up with the platter in his hands.

"Yeah, I know." He whispered back as he walked back to the counter to put the dishes away. Roen watched him walk away sadly. "But it can be so damn hard sometimes Roen." Afterward, Alex walked back to his barracks where he saw his platoon forming up. He quickly joined the ranks, standing at attention as his platoon sergeant came out. In his hands was a clipboard. The man was slightly taller then him and had almost no hair whatsoever, however his posture showed respect and the man had received nothing less then that from Alex's platoon.

"Alright, listen up ladies." The man called out, looking at the clip board. "We've got a volunteer mission for all of you and you probably won't like it!" He looked about at the group. "We have a shipment of weapons that are about to be brought over to the east via aircraft! The plane will head west, towards Florida by going around the Bermuda Triangle!"

At this, several soldiers in the ranks behind Alex began to mutter, but were silenced when the sergeant ordered silence. "Alright, Alright, I know none of you like that idea, however we need one volunteer. Just one, since most of you are uncomfortable to this-." Alex suddenly stood back at attention and raised his hand up. The sergeant blinked when he did so and asked him what his question was.

"I'll go!" He cried, causing more mutterings behind him. The sergeant seemed to smile, as he was expecting Alex to volunteer. He liked the man, even if the man seemed to join missions that were too dangerous quickly and without thought.

"Then get your ass back in the barracks and start backing Durley!" The sergeant ordered. "Meet up with the Dragon Thief on run 34 once your finished. Be there at 09:00 sharp!" Alex saluted the sergeant, who in turn saluted back and Alex marched off the base and back into his barracks.

Inside, Alex whipped opened his chest and began to pack up clothes and personal belongings. He stopped when he came upon two things: A small plastic case with a shard of glass and a velvet ring box. He opened the box to produce a small golden ring with a large diamond on top of it. He stared at it long and hard and placed it away with a sigh. Next he grabbed the shard of glass, seeing his own face staring back at him. It was the same shard that he had cut himself with, six years ago when the mirror shattered.

Alex brought it up to his chest and held it there for a moment, over his heart, before putting it in a duffel bag. Afterward, he checked his watch to see he had only ten minutes left to get to the runway and he quickly marched out, heading towards the airfield where he saw a futuristic plane with propellers in the wings and a movable jet thruster near the rear beginning to be loaded up with cargo. He suddenly felt better, but only by a little bit, when he saw that the pilots boarding the plane now was Roen and Vladimir. It meant he was not going to be lonely on this trip.

He stopped at the stairway that lead up and into the plane, turning to look at the morning sun as it raised. It was the anniversary of her disappearance, and the same sun as that morning greeted him after all these years. As he turned back, he began to sing.

There once was a girl named Cyyybil,

Who once was my closest friend.

There once was a girl named Cyyybil,

Where, oh where have you gone?

There once was a girl named Cyyybil,

Please, oh please come back to me...

Then he was gone, deep into the ship to take his seat as tears welled up in his eyes and he looked out the window. "I'll find you." He swore quietly to the sun. "I Promise."

Meanwhile, Cybil was scribbling quickly about the days events in the Temple of Bahamut. War was upon them, as the humans had already begun their march on this city located on the boundary between the human country and the draconian one. Next to her was a simple candle for illumination and books surrounded her at every corner. She too, had aged quicker then a normal draconian because of the same depression as Alex. Most still considered her one of the most beautiul creature sof the land however and she turned her multicolored eyes upwards when the door at the far end of the room opened to reveal a small draconian child there.

The child had hard blue eyes, and silver scales. On either side of her head, small horns could be barely seen poking out of her thick black hair there. Most of the other draconians of the city said she looked much like her mother save that this child had no tail or wings, indicating that she was part human. "Mommy?" The child called, walking in sleepily as she crawled into Cybils lap. "Tell me about Daddy again.

Cybil smiled and looked out the window as the sun rose in the distance. "He is a fine man sweety." She replied, gently kissing the child on the head. She suddenly felt something stir in her heart, like something was calling out to her. She looked up once more, only to see the ray of the sun on the desk. But still the feeling remained, as though something was about to happen

"And I believe he will find us." She whispered gently, looking down at the child once more. "I'm sure he will, Alexia."

I don't care what it takes, I will find her! Our love is too strong, even if there is no doorway out there that will take me to her, I'll still find a way! Our love won't be broken. No...it CAN'T be broken.
