"Great! Our new neighbors are cats!" The large German shepherd growled looking out the window through the blinds, his hot breath foggy it up in front of him. "First the property prices rise and now cats." He grumbled walking back to his chair in the middle of the room. His tone showed that the one and the other were in fact related as if the cats were the reason the prices rose. Even in the middle of the day the living room was dark with only the television screen supplying any amount of light.

Brent, the large German Shepherd, took his usual seat in an old, slightly torn army green recliner with a grunt, crushing the can of beer in hand and tossing it off to the side. "Margret!" He barked. "I'm out of beer!"

"Get it yourself." His wife from the kitchen barked back. "Low life, ingrate. Living off of my dollar." She muttered loudly to herself afterwards. "Should get a real job..."

"The cats move in." He continued to grumble. "Then the mail goes missing. Taxes rise. Housing value fall. There goes the god damn fucking neighborhood." He cursed, bitching aloud once more to himself. "Moved here because there weren't any... And now..." He continued to grumble to himself kicking his paws up and resting back in his chair as the recliner leaned back and the leg rest kicked up.

At roughly the same time a small pup was walking down the stairs holding onto the railing as he took each step slowly and carefully. Black fur covered his face with brown markings for his eyebrows, around his eyes and on his cheeks. The small pup's body was similar to his father with the back and forearms and thighs being black with a lighter brown chest fuzz and belly. Under one of his arms was a large red bouncing ball with slight bite marks and drool still on the side of it.

"Margaret!" Brent barked once more scratching his fat exposed belly with dull claws watching the TV in front of him.

The mother came into the room and raised the wooden spoon in hand before her eyes darted over to the small ball of fur standing at the bottom of the stairs. Wide innocent eyes stared at her with a soft dewy texture that seemed to sparkle in the light coming from the kitchen. The pup just stared up at his mother.

"Go play outside, Hun." She said sweetly in a far softer voice as she walked over. She licked her thumb and wiped his cheek. "But stay in view!" The German shepherd's mother said pushing him outside roughly. Jasper held the bright red ball with both his small paws looking out over the large expansion of yard before him. To his eyes it looked like a field rather than a green grass lawn, white picket fence yard like all the neighbors had.

The wide eyed puppy looked back over his shoulder from the front porch as the door slammed behind him. He winced at the sound folding his ears back and closing his eyes. He could still hear his parents arguing inside louder this time and was sure someone or other happened to "drop" something against the wall. It only got louder now that they were in the same room with all filters off. He wasn't sure what it was about and in a child innocence he hopped off the front porch onto the lawn and padded towards the middle of the lawn wagging his tail and ignoring everything in the house.

He gripped the plastic ball, squeezing it in his paws before bouncing it on the ground. The grass didn't apply much resistance and the bounce was off making him chase after the ball across the lawn. He chased it with stretched out paws watching it intently as it rolled. The ball hit the hedge separating their house with their neighbors.

Jasper picked up the ball his ears lifting up as he did so. He smelled an unfamiliar scent in the air and scrambling he climbed up onto the hedge looking over with wide brown puppy eyes. He blinked once as he saw the moving van in front unable to read the letters on the side. His head turned towards the car in the driveway and he watched as the family got out.

Twin kittens from the back seat that looked like Siamese cats. The mom was Siamese and the dad was a calico. The side door of the parked van opened and a small boy jump out the bell attached to his collar jingled as he landed softly. Jasper wagged his tail at the sight. The small kitten was a mix of colors. The top and left side of his muzzle was orange that ran between his mint green eyes stopping at his forehead. His ears were black like most of his fur but the insides of those ears had the slight pink glow like his nose; white fur filled these large almost lopsided ears of the small kitten. His whiskers were a faint wispy white. His chest and paws were white while his arms and legs black. Even the tip of his black tail was white.

The peculiar creature was looking up at its step-mother who was on the phone. The older feline scratched his head making his ears fall to the side once she noticed him staring at her. She pushed him into the lawn lightly before going back to the business call heading around the van as she did so and trying to get some peace from her kittens. The twin Siamese cats ran about before heading inside and the father was busy talking with the delivery rhino and buffalo that were slowly carrying things inside.

It was like an alien world to the pup's eyes never had he seen such creatures before. Fascinated he dropped back down onto his bare hind paws the grass blades sliding between his toes. Bending down he picked up the ball and with great effort tossed it over the hedge, it barely made it over as the pup fell down onto his rear. And with a wag of his tail he stood back up slowly and began to walk around to go fetch his favorite toy.

The small kitten saw the red spherical object lobbed over the hedge like a volley ball. In a curiosity he headed over to inspect the object the large bell on his neck jingling every now and then as he went.

Chance picked up the small ball, letting it rest on an open palm as he pulled his now drool covered paw off the other side. His ear flicked and he looked over at the pup coming over.

The pup was roughly the same size as the kitten that looked at him with a similar curious innocence only a child would know. And with those large mint eyes looking at him Jasper wagged his tail happily as he walked over to join him.

"Wanna play?" Was all the pup needed to say for the two to become friends...
