Over the next few days Fenrir showed Leaf nothing but understanding and they quickly returned to their normal happy funny antics, the snow disappeared and the days began to warm as the world travelled closer to the sun.

Everything seemed perfect; their friendship especially was unaffected and had grown stronger than ever, to the outside eye the two were only growing closer.

They had both forgotten that it was time for Leaf to leave, Fenrirs grandfather, watched as the two walked from the food area back to Fenrirs nest both giggling and carrying food, Leaf was dragging Fenrirs food along on a big leaf and Fenrir was carrying Leafs berries in his mouth.

Fenrir jumped into his nest first followed by Leaf, as she went to climb into the nest she tripped and fell flat on her face.

"LEAF ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!" panicked stricken Fenrir yelped, dropping the berries and hurriedly inspecting her body for injury.

Leaf looked up slowly and shook her body as she stood back up, then she started to laugh, Fenrir laughed along with her, they glanced at one another and their eyes suddenly met.

The feeling of their eyes meeting full on was indescribable, the world around them suddenly stopped and all noise around them died, as they stared at one another , Leaf gulped and slowly stretched up as Fenrir slowly lent forwards, they eyes closing in sequence.

Their hearts beating so fast, that they were almost bursting out.

Just before their mouths met...

"Fenrir!" his grandfather commanded, only metres behind them.

Fenrir woke up from his little dream "sorry Leaf" he got up and rushed over to his grandfather, respectfully bowing to him as he got close.

His grandfather gave him a stern look as he stood over bearing his grandson "I'm afraid that it is time for your friend to leave Fenrir, I'm sorry but she has over stayed her welcome long enough, go tell her to leave immediately"

"B...but grand..." Stuttered the white and grey Arcanine. slowly declining in size.

"It is Leader to you as of the moment Fenrir, she has to leave" he stamped his paw to show he was serious and that his command should not go questioned.

Fenrir Looked so far down his head could have detached "Yes... leader" he slowly walked back to the nest, barely lifting his head and letting his tail dragging behind him, his mother looking on sadly at the heart broken dog.

"What's wrong Fenrir? Are you ok?" said Leaf worriedly "If it's because of what happened then I'm sorry I take full responsibility" she added hurriedly, referring to them almost kissing one another.

"N...no... Leaf it's not because of that..." he sighed sadly a tear rolling down his face.

Leaf rushed over and hugged his leg only to be pushed away "Fenrir..." she whimpered feeling terrible for him and only wanting to cheer him up.

"Leaf... It's time for you to go..." he couldn't look at her; he just stared down, his eyes full of sorrow and pain.

Leaf went a dignified quiet "Is... it that time already..." she with held her own growing agony.

"Very well... I shall leave..." Leaf glanced at him but his head wouldn't rise, she could barely see his face, but she could see the tears splashing on the floor.

"Good bye...Fenrir... It was nice knowing you..." She slowly turned and began to walk away slowly; dragging her own tail behind, Fenrir looked up and watched her enter the woodlands. She took one final glance as she disappeared behind through the trees.

The now lonesome Arcanine collapsed into his nest and began to cry, he didn't care on the packs impression of him now, he didn't care if they saw his moment of weakness.

He sat silently ignoring everything around him for weeks, turning down challenges to fights and only eating what would keep him alive. His mother and father were deeply worried, his status in the pack was losing its grip, but there was nothing they could do to fix the heartbroken Fenrir.

2 months went by and Fenrir had not seen or heard from Leaf, he had search for her tirelessly but had had not seen her, much less found the scent of the lost Leafeon.

Mating season was fast approaching, on the mornings beforehand his mother came over to him "Fenrir... it'll be mating season in a few days, me and your father have decided that this year you are to take a mate..."

Fenrir just regarded this with silence.

His father ventured over seeing her efforts weren't taking much effect in opening their son up.

"Fenrir it's for the best, we know it'll make you happy again, I'm pretty sure there is someone in this pack for you and we have decided that we will pick out the girls most suitable for you. We will present them to you the day before and you will pick one" His father said trying to be the rock for Fenrir to hold on to and his commanding tone meant that Fenrir did not have any choice.

"I don't want to take a mate..." Said Fenrir silently but sternly

"We are sorry Fenrir but this year is your year, you have no choice" stated his mother "It will also reinstate your status in the pack" That was true as it would show Fenrir was willing to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors, and it would prove his willingness to step up and be a full adult male.

Fenrir only sunk lower into his depression; his parents desperately hoped that it would work wonders on him when they presented the girls for his pleasure.
