#1 of Island Tides

This may become a multi-part story or a two section one I'm still undecided right now. Much like my Heated Firelight Trilogy " { } "- these symbolize a different language being spoken. Since I really suck at making new and unique languages honestly. So in the end I decided on something far less complex instead . Anywho Comments are Welcome as always.

It is said that the oceans are the source of all life on our little blue planet. Many people agree on that but, the ocean can be a very cruel mistress when it decides to be. So in the eyes of many the ocean is the giver of life and a destroyer. Though in rare cases it may show someone where their destiny awaits. For one young sailor fate is about to turn his life into something men can only dream of.

Kenneth's forty foot fishing vessel is sailing out passed the Bermudas looking for decent fishing grounds. Considering the last few ventures out, met with very little success. Though this time around he thought it'd be best to travel further south than normal. He kept a close eye on all his gauges, radar and the radio for any trouble. Luckily nothing turned up on any of his equipment, so he got up to stretch his legs.

He walked down to the gallery to grab a snack and something to keep him awake. Despite six previous cups of coffee it was starting to lose its effect. So he made the new pot a lot stronger hoping it would help keep him alert. After the coffee brewer finished he poured himself a large cup then fixed it to his liking. Before returning up to the wheel house to check on things with his crew and gear.

As he sat down in his chair he called down to the aft deck to see how the boys were. They replied that they couldn't wait to get started and make some money. It did his heart good to know his close friends and employees were eager to get fishing. So he checked his equipment including the camera for the deck behind the wheel house. When he did something in the far corner caught his eye.

"Hey, Mark mind cleaning off the camera lens I think it's dirty." He said over the ship's intercom. Mark gave a wave okay before climbing up a ladder near where the camera was mounted. Pulling a clean rag from his inside pocket he wiped the camera lens clean. He moved out of the way so Kenneth could see if that did the trick. "That didn't work since your up there mind telling me what you see off to your right." He replied.

"Looks, like a storm but, I can't be sure it's too far away for me to be positive. What's the radar telling you?" Mark said after climbing and poking his head in a nearby window. Kenneth turned the left to check his long range radar screen. He gave it a few taps to make sure it was still working and sure enough everything was. "Okay, the long range radar states there's nothing in that area." Kenneth stated scratching his head.

With that they resumed their duties until the sun started setting in the sky. So they looked for a decent place to weigh anchor and bunk down for the night. As the night slowly passed by the strange storm had moved swiftly towards Kenneth's vessel. Before Kenneth or the crew could even do anything to save themselves. The storm reduced the ship to nothing but, a mangled wreck and the crew vanished.

Kenneth did his best to open his eyes to see what in the world was going on around him. All he could see and feel was darkness shrouding him in a thick blanket. Trying his best to fight in the hopes he could escape from this slowly closing prison. By the time he was able to orient himself he lost consciousness a second later. Meanwhile a woman spent her morning walking along the white sandy beach.

With spear in hand she was clearly searching for something to kill and bring back to the village. Where her fellow tribal members waited patiently for her to return with food and fresh water. She had already procured plenty of fresh clean spring water. Now she was in search for something large enough to feed thirteen people. Or at least enough meat and fruit to go around as evenly as possible.

As she continued further down the beach until something caught her attention in the distance. It looked like a wrecked ship then she saw motion the closer she got. Running as fast as her legs could carry her and rushed to the sight of the wreck. She immediately went to work checking for any survivors and any useful supplies. Sadly she didn't find much in the way of supplies and what bodies she did find.

Out of the six bodies she found along shore, none of them showed any signs of life. The next thing she did was to give all of them a proper burial out of respect for their families. That would probably never know the true fate of their loved ones. After a while she finished burying them and as she walked back towards the forest. As a loud sputtering and coughing filled the air directly behind her.

The second she spun around she saw someone crawling up the beach still alive. Dropping all her things she instantly rushed to his side helping him to reach dry land. {Oh, thank the maker you survived.} She said clearly amazed. Kenneth looked up and gave her a weak smile before passing out again from lack of energy. As he went limp in her arms she immediately checked his vitals.

Once she knew he was stable enough to her liking she hoisted him up onto her shoulder. Carrying him back to the village so the healer could properly attend to his injuries. As she walked past the three guards standing watch, they quickly opened the gates. Even though the island didn't have many natural predators outside this tribe of anthros. There weren't any rival tribes or rogue savages to worry about.

All they had to really worry about was disease and mother nature, despite the lack of males. As the huntress brought Kenneth's unconscious form through the village. The cheiftess watched and felt a string of hope begin to vibrate in her chest. She quickly followed after her jogging towards the healer's hut. {Imaya what brings you here my dear? You don't look injured and who's that on your shoulder?} Joura asked.

{Joura, I found him while I was out on one of my hunts. Apparently he was ship wrecked unfortunately he was the only survivor I found.} Imaya replied placing him down on a cot. Joura got up from her seat and walked over to give him a good examination. Taking her time to check every single inch of his body for injuries. {It would seem this one dodged a bullet, he'll be just fine after plenty of sleep." Joura stated with relief.

{Thank the Maker for that, Joura.} Cheiftess said entering the tent after hearing the good news. Catching both Imaya and Joura totally off guard as she knelt beside him. {Your highness I was planning on seeing you to inform you about him.} Imaya stated surprised. Andorra didn't say anything she was more interested in Kenneth. She walked closer to him and knelt down to get a better look at him before standing back up.

{It's quite alright ladies I saw you carrying him through the village, Imaya. So I assumed you found him during your hunt and I decided to follow you here.} Andorra informed looking over her shoulder. {Well, I do believe it would be best if we let him rest. I'll let you know the second he wakes up alright, now shoo all of you.} Joura stated playfully shoving all of them out of her hut.

As the hours turned into days everyone in the village grew more curious about the new arrival. Andorra, Joura and Imaya grew worried that their new arrival would never wake up from his slumber. On the morning of the fifth day Kenneth finally awoke from his deep slumber. He felt very sore but, quite well rested. When he got up from his bed and stretched out his body really complained.

All of his joints popped loudly as he moved around the large hut slowly. Once all the kinks were out of his system the next thing he did was look for something to drink. Waking up in an unfamiliar place with a sore body and cotton mouth wasn't pleasant. Sure enough he found water he drank enough to cure his dry mouth and throat. The next thing on his to do list was to get something to eat.

Sadly there wasn't any food stored in the hut so he ventured his way outside. As the bright tropical sun hit his eyes, Kenneth flinched back inside the hut. It took his eyes a good while to adjust before he tried walking back outside. When he tried again this time around he was greeted by a small crowd of women. Feeling very out numbered and completely confused about this new situation.

Standing around him were six young teenage girls wearing what looked like grass weaved clothing. That just barely covered their private regions but, given the temperature it's understandable. As he went to say something his stomach grumbled rather loudly. All the young women started giggling at the fact his stomach was so loud. {Alright, Girls leave him alone, why don't you go fetch some dried meat and fruit.} Joura said.

"Welcome back to the land of the living, you had a lot of people here worried. I'm glad to see you're up and about with your stomach growling like it did. Means you'll be just fine now please, allow me to examine you while a meal is prepared." Joura replied in English. Kenneth was a little shocked to learn that she spoke two languages. Being a linguist in the military for eight years didn't prepare him for their language.

"How did you learn English miss?" He asked re-entering the hut. "Hmm, I learned English from books our hunters stumbled across on the beach. I'm the only one that still practices English on a regular basis but, everyone has let it slip. Also where are my manners I'm Joura the village healer. I'll help translate for you when Cheiftess Andorra arrives to check up on you." She informed.

"Thank you for all you've done Joura, were there any other survivors or was I the only one?" Kenneth wondered. Joura went real quiet after hearing his question, she didn't know how to answer him. Her awkward silence alone was all the information he needed. "Were they at least given a proper burial?" He asked. Joura looked up and as she went to answer his second question Cheiftess Andorra walked in.

{The rumors among the villagers weren't false after all. I'm glad to see you awake, hopefully in time you'll make yourself useful.} She said. "She says she's glad to see you up and about, considering how beat up you were when you arrived. When you're injuries are all healed she hopes that you'll be a great asset to the village." Joura translated after she left. As one of the young women returned carrying a small basket of food.

Kenneth waited patiently for her to place the basket she brought inside down. He thanked her kindly for bringing him the meal which Joura translated his thanks to her. She smiled when Joura told her, she waved goodbye and left the hut. "Please, take it easy since it's been a few days since you've had any solid food. Also your body might not be able to handle some of the fruit native to this island." Joura informed.

Kenneth gave her a confident smile after grabbing a piece of fruit and took a bite. The flavor was simply incredible and it only got better the more he ate. Despite the fact he took his time while being careful about what fruit he grabbed from the basket. With a full belly he got up to go stretch his legs, Joura walked beside him. She helped him communicate with the other villagers they passed by.

Some of the villagers kept their distance since they weren't too sure about him. While Kenneth recovered Andorra asked the villagers to build him a hut just outside the village. To give him plenty of privacy and freedom from any curious young voyeurs. Even as the days passed Kenneth took his time learning the tribe's language. Granted he's still not fluent but, the more he practiced the easier it got.

Andorra was having a hard time debating Kenneth's fate, allowing him to stay or have him leave. Being the last true leader of the tribe she was in a very delicate position. Despite all her training and experience nothing had prepared her for the unknowns. Considering he's been very helpful with repairing the village as a whole. Spending most of his time rebuilding the walls, huts and tools.

When he's not doing that he joins the hunters on their ventures into the forest and the beach. He was nice enough to craft better weapons for them which proved more reliable. On days there's nothing to really do he spends time by himself on the beach. Where his close friends are buried and wondering how their families are. Sadly he was the only one that had nobody waiting at home for him.

As the days turned into weeks, then into months Kenneth still felt empty. He grew more and more seclusive as an entire year had come to pass and nobody noticed. Until one sunny morning the hunters went over to Kenneth's hut only to see empty space. Imaya immediately rushed back to the village to inform Cheiftess Andorra. {Are you certain of this, his hut has vanished?} She asked jumping to her feet.

She nodded, Andorra ordered her and the other hunters to go find him then bring him back. Imaya bowed then ran out of the hut while Andorra began pacing around. When Joura entered she knew something was clearly wrong and asked Andorra. The cheiftess told her the shocking news and Joura couldn't believe it. Being anthros like they were it wouldn't take the hunters long to find him.

Since the hunters and guards were of canine descent they were naturals at hunting and protection. While Joura and half the young women in the village were feline. As for Andorra she was a feline canine mix and Kenneth was pure human. Oddly enough one of the village elders was human, before she passed away. Though her passing was many years ago prior to Kenneth's arrival on the island.

To make things worse every female in the village would be entering their time of mating soon. Where every single female thoughts will consist of one singular thing. Having a worthy male mount and mate with them vigorously until a pup or pups are conceived. With that time drawing closer Joura can certainly understand Andorra's concern. Since Kenneth's arrival, he's been an answer to their prayers.

So for him to go missing without a word something was clearly wrong here. Both Joura and Andorra hoped with all their hearts that Kenneth was alright and alive. Elsewhere on the far end of the island Kenneth had relocated himself there. Granted he could've remained with the villagers but, he needed his own space. Being on his own for the past few months he's certain they've noticed his disappearance.

Coming from a world of humans, anthros and various combinations of the two. He's always felt like one in a crowd and now to be marooned on an island full of women. Has taking him quite a while to adjust and come to terms with his fate. Now coming up on his second year being here and something's still missing. Before he could indulge his thoughts anymore the sounds of footsteps alerted him.

Grabbing his spear he rushed out to see who it was coming to visit or was hunting him. Sure enough as he ran into the woods, Imaya was the first thing he met. {Kenneth, Oh thank the Maker you're still alive I had feared the worst. Please come with me Cheiftess Andorra wishes to see you right away.} She said hugging him. Kenneth didn't say anything he gently pulled away from her.

This confused her as he stepped back then began to walk away from her. {I'm truly sorry Imaya but, tell Cheiftess Andorra that I wish to be left alone. I can't seem to find a strong reason to be among the other villagers anymore. Hence why I left months ago and built this place on this side of the island. It was good to see you again, Imaya so please respect my wishes and go back home.} He stated leaving.

Imaya was clearly hurt by his gentle words but, she respected his wishes and left. She tracked the other hunters down and told them to go back to the village. While she had the rough part of telling Cheiftess Andorra the bad news. When they returned to the village where Andorra and Joura were waiting patiently. They saw Kenneth wasn't among them and Imaya told them the sad news.

Joura was stunned she didn't know how to react given the news Imaya delivered. As for Andorra she was just as shocked but, very angry upon hearing it. She dismissed Imaya and told Joura to go home while she did some thinking in private. When they left her sight she snuck out of the village and went to visit Kenneth. Granted what she was doing was clearly pig headed and foolish.

It took her an hour to reach the other side of the island and another twenty to reach his home. Fore going manners she walked right in, stormed up to him and grabbed him by the shirt. {You're coming with me and I'm not taking NO for an answer.} She remarked firmly. Everything she did and said caught Kenneth completely off guard. As he carefully removed her hands from his shirt then in a flash a knife poked his chin.

{Let's go, Kenneth.} Andorra ordered in a flat tone. {No! Kill me if you wish but, I won't do as you tell me your majesty.} Kenneth replied calmly. Andorra did not take to kindly to being refused but, she couldn't harm him. Since he was the key to her tribe's very survival so, she refrained from doing anything. She lowered her gaze from his and allowed her arms to drop to her sides.

{Kenneth, you don't realize this but, you are the key to my tribe's survival. Without you there will be no future generations to carry on teachings of our ancestors.} She said trying to stay emotionless. Kenneth stood there as her body began trembling as her emotions boiled inside. All her life she was taught never to show emotion. For they were a sign of weakness that anyone would exploit if given the chance.

With the way things happened all those years ago when Andorra was little. She'll never forget that day that every male in the village grew sick and withered away. As each male died a painfully her father fought with every fiber of his being. He was able to last at least two more days before the illness claimed his life also. Her mother assumed the mantle of chief and everything changed.

Her mother made sure she was strong mentally, emotionally and physically. When she took over her mother knew she'd be able to return the village to it's former glory. The day Kenneth washed up on shore, he was the answer to all her prayers. Now he clearly doesn't wish to be a part of things and the question is why. There are plenty of worthy females for him to choose from so why seclude himself.

{Why, tell me the truth behind why you wish to be left alone, Kenneth I need to know.} She said looking into his eyes. Kenneth remained silent for some time before a strong exhale broke the silence. "If you must know I grew up with nothing to my name. I had to work very hard to scrape up what I needed to make a living. In one fell swoop I lost everything including the only friends I had." He began in english.

Andorra understood the language he used but, didn't like speaking it as he continued. "Lately, I lie awake wondering how their families are doing and have they found closure. Will they ever learn the truth of how their loved ones died. I was their captain I'm solely responsible for them and they should've survived. To go back home to their families and I should've died at sea." He pointed out sounding very upset.

She was confused by his statements this was something she's never had to deal with. So naturally she had no idea on how to help him heal, let alone where to start. Joura was more qualified to handle this and now Andorra cursed herself. For dismissing her before rushing of half cocked and with no plan. {I'll ask you again Andorra please go home, I wish to be left alone.} Kenneth said in the tribal language.

Blinking a few times she took a moment to process what he just asked of her. She heard him correctly but, somewhere deep in her gut it was a request she couldn't perform. Andorra finally placed her dagger back into it's sheath before looking at him again. This time around he had sat down on a nearby foot stool. {No, Kenneth I will not if you want me gone so badly than make me.} Andorra stated convincingly.

To be continued.
