Shadow-dragons are not truly dragons as one would think. They are related to a race known as shadow beasts, creatures of darkness born from the evil of one's heart. Though created from one who must be outright evil, they retain nothing from those who created them. These people must be without magical abilities. It seems that humans without magic are the best species to create shadow dragons for their greed, lust, and other evils that only serve to incubate the shadow beast. However this is not limited to humans alone. Any race that lacks magical abilities can also create shadow beasts. The lack of magic makes for the perfect growth environment for magic disrupts the formation of a shadow creature. (Note: Any host creating a shadow beast/dragon has no idea such a thing is happening, and in the end will never know it happened. There are also no ways to trace a shadow beast back to those who created it)

The Shadow dragons are named as such for they take the form of dragons and have been accepted by dragon kind as a brother race due to their high intellect and ability to speak (unlike their shadow beast counterpart). Though dragon in shape, a Shadow Dragon's looks can range greatly from one to another. Some take the form of bones that release an unnatural black smoke or others as full dragons, simply black in color. Though their looks range greatly, they always hold the basic form of a dragon.

Shadow Dragons hold no true mass of their own. Since their body is made purely of shadows, which in truth is simply the absence of light, they tend to be untouchable by physical objects unless they wish to be touched. Also, because a shadow-dragon does not exist on the physical plane as we do, they cannot reproduce on their own, but at the same time they cannot become extinct. There will never be a time when all hatred, anger, greed, and evil will be erased from the world and thus never be a time when the darkness form people's hearts are gone.

A Shadow Beast survives by eating the life force of an unwilling victim, often killing them within hours; this is known as the 'Sudden Death Syndrome.' A Shadow Dragon on the other hand shows restraint, preferring to keep their host alive for prolonged feeding and in the end, does not kill their host. The worst a host will feel during a Shadow Dragon feeding is ether flue like symptoms or just extra tired after normal activities. This soon vanishes as the body adjusts to the new creature attached to the host.

Shadow Dragons are often found in caves or dark and cool places and, just like a dragon, are very territorial and like to hoard their treasures (not all treasures must be gold and jewels, some dragons are known to horde the oddest of things or even those they become attached to).

If a shadow-dragon takes a liking to you, which is rare beyond anything, it will offer it's services as a bodyguard. All you must do in return for this service is allow it to live in your shadow and feed off what life force. In worst cases it has been known to shorten one's life by up to half for larger dragons, but most cases the host notices no change in their life. At any time the offer can be revoked by the host or the dragon, thus terminating the bond. What damage is done will be done, but otherwise no side effects will be felt by the host.

Mini Shadow Dragon (MSD) A Mini-Shadow Dragon is an exact replica of it's larger counterpart, but usually without the ability of speech. They are affected by the same limitations as most other shadow dragons and have exceptions to some abilities. (See MSD after each ability to see said exceptions for Mini-Shadow Dragons. If no MSD fallows an ability, strength, or weakness, then there is no exception and all rules apply)

Abilities (RARE)Transformation: In rare instances a shadow dragon can change their shape to fit that of a more human like creature, allowing them to blend in instead of having to hide. This however takes away many, if not all, of their abilities till they change back to their more dragon like body. This is due to the amount of energy needed to hold said form, and the fact that their energy is now flowing like a human, no longer like a dragon. MSD : A Mini-Shadow Dragon CANNOT transform under any condition. Their smaller form requires a different molecular setup then their larger counterpart, thus it makes transformation impossible, with or without a host.

Shadow manipulation: A shadow dragon can give mass to any shadow, creating a weapon or a shield out of it for their personal use. The strength of this power varies with the size of the dragon. The larger the dragon the more shadows it can manipulate at one time. However, the more shadows it uses, the more spread out it's power will be, in effect, weakening each individual shadow MSD : A Mini-Shadow Dragon can manipulate shadows beyond their size limitation only if they are bonded to a host, protecting their host as well as themselves with shadows. Said manipulation cannot surpass the size of host and dragon combined.

Shadow Warp: Shadow Dragons can use shadows to teleport, the shadow MUST be big enough to fit their size on both the receiving end and the location they wish to reach. This however only works for the dragon itself, thus he/she cannot be attached to a host. Skilled enough Shadow Dragons can even preform this in their more human like form. This being all well and good, a Shadow Dragon cannot use it's own shadow as a form of travil. MSD : A Mini-Shadow Dragon can not only teleport itself, but it's host as well. Because of their small form, a Mini-Shadow Dragon uses nearly no energy to teleport, thus leaving plenty of energy for their host. However, said teleportation still fallows the rules of their larger counterpart, so the receiving and exiting shadow must be large enough for both host and dragon. Again, the dragon cannot use it's own shadow, or the host's shadow for this.

Strengths Darkness: Being a creature of darkness, they find the dark and shadows to be most comfortable. They hold no fear of the dark and can see even if there is literally no light present without hindrance.

Hiding in shadows: As a shadow beast, the shadow dragon can hide in any available shadow. If this shadow is disrupted by light, the dragon inside is not killed, but simply locked away in the dark till said shadow is back. A change in shadow size does not affect a dragon, unless said shadow becomes too small for them to fit through. (Side note: A shadow dragon cannot enter it's own shadow, if it happens to have one. It can, however, use said shadow with their shadow manipulation ability just like it would with any other)

Body: Being made of pure shadows they hold no mass unless they create it for themselves. Thus, they tend to be unaffected by physical objects smaller then themselves. When they lose energy they tend to lose shape and appear more like a black mist than a dragon. However, due to their nature, they cannot reform to take any other shape than their own.

Weakness Light: Though sunlight is their weakness, any strong light can do the job of weakening them. However, no matter how strong the light, one cannot kill a shadow dragon with light alone. They may be made of pure shadows, but their molecular makeup allows them to survive even in the brightest conditions (though with extreme discomfort). Such conditions will stop any abilities and dispel any shadows the dragon it is currently using, but it will still able to move and their claws and fangs work just fine.

Passive nature: Due to their more passive nature, they are easy to attack. Most shadow dragons tend to be passive unless they are harmed, find a trespasser on their land, or feel threatened. Those who attack often attempt to make their first blow fatal to avoid a fight. MSD : Due to their small size, Mini-Shadow Dragons tend to have much more energy and are very curious creatures. They tend to still be passive, but they also tend to be trouble makers. A mini-dragon tends to be easily excited or spooked and a spooked mini dragon often loses shape momentarily, leaving only a black mist before reforming. Such a thing is completely painless to the dragon, and though funny, can easily upset them.

Body: Though it is very helpful to be unaffected by the physical world sometimes, to actually manipulate anything in the real world can use quite a bit of energy. For dragons not bonded to a host this can cause starvation if they attempt to lift anything heavier than it's own body. Also, turning to vapors or dust and reforming does not heal wounds or stop possible attacks. These dragons can be killed like any other, one just must be swift enough to land a blow before they dematerialize.
