Chapter 5: A Fear

Jake began turning the knob to his and Ellen's apartment. It had been 4 years since Ellen, drunk, expressed her feelings for him. Now, they were out of college and living in a decent (At best) apartment. They'd been living in it since 3rd year of college, moving out of their dorm since one time Ellen saw a rat and got scared. Jake worked as a writer for a Television show and made some decent money and Ellen worked as a creative writer for the largest newspaper of the city, making various stories. She did so because no one else would accept her

He opened the door to reveal a person-sized lump on the couch covered by a blanket. He gave a smile to himself. Walking over, Jake began to shake her gently. "Ughhh..." Ellen groaned as she looked at him. Her eyes were red and it looked like she'd been crying. "Hey sleepy head, have you been crying?" Ellen began to retrance her steps before breaking into a fit of tears again before saying one word; 'kids'

Kids. Jake and Ellen knew they didn't want to be with anyone else, and they knew they wanted to be wed. They also knew they wanted... children. Unfortunantly, there was quite a bit of problems with the whole 'children' thing. They didn't know if they were compatable, they didn't know what their children would look like, if there would be any mutations, and... what would happen to the child? How would the child be treated?

"Hey, Hey it's okay honey" Jake said hoping to quell his and her fears. The wolfess began to cry more before looking him straight in the eyes.

"No it's not Jake!" Ellen yelled through the tears "Our child is going to be hated, and feared and..." Ellen trailed before cying into his chest

"Hey honey?"

"What." Ellen said with a little anger into his chest.

"I want you to know something. Our children will be the greatest kids in the world. They'll be kind and sweet and strong... Ellen, i won't care what our kids look like or what people think of them - of us. All i care about is that they're ours.." He said before giving her a kiss on the forehead

"But people-"

"Screw what people think. I don't care what anyone thinks of you and i sure as hell won't care what anyone thinks of them. I love you and i want to raise children with you."

"Oh Jake... This... This is why i love you." She said, holding onto him. They cuddled together long for a few hours. "Hey sweetie?" Ellen asked. "Hmmph?" Jake said, his mouth full of her fur "I have to go start dinner..."

Over the years, Ellen had become a sort of 'master chef'. She had learned from various cookbook's and Jake's mother. Jake had to keep buying spices, herbs and ingredients trying to keep up with never-ending desire to literally make and perfect EVERYTHING. She had been rather successful at her attempts, while Jake could only make macaroni and toast.

They had some nice stakes that Jake had been saving for a while. They ate it while watching a movie, some dopey comedy. But their focus wasn't on the movie, it was on each other. They went to bed, both falling asleep wrapped in a loving embrace.

"Hey Ell!" Cece yelled. Since everyone had gone off to college (Except Shawn) They couldn't see each other, so they talked with each other on their computers. But as time passed, they all started to grow apart, except for Cece and Ellen who had only grown closer

"Hey Cee." Ellen said as she gave a paw-wave. "So what's been going on?" Cece asked "Nothing much... just had another mood swing" "Kids thing again?" Cece asked as Ellen just gave a nod "I'm telling you Ell, your kids will be AWESOME! Plus they'll have a cool Aunt Cece!" Cece said as Ellen gave a little laugh "I know they will, i know."

"So how's Carol?" Carol was Cece's girlfriend, and had been for a couple years. Apparently they had met in a film studies class and had begun dating within the week. "She's okay, her aunt passed away and i've been comforting her... So anyway... when are you two gunna get hitched?" Cece asked "Cece, why do you alway ask this every time we talk? We're only 22 for gods sake. At least not for a couple years. Plus, i could asked you the same thing." "Ell, You know i'm only in Chicago for two reasons; Deep dish pizza and the whole Carol getting her college-education-thing. I'll be moving to New York in a couple months and then we can you can finally meet Carol in person. Though i do want to visit Jules in D.C. beforehand"

Jules had moved to D.C. for college, her mind set on being a reporter for a news station and D.C. was a good place for it. She'd recently met a nice guy - a raccoon hybrid named Burton. They've been dating for a few months so far and things were getting rather serious. Everyone in their little group had promised they'd fly out to D.C. for a week and just have some fun.

Even Shawn, who hadn't gone off to college. He instead chose to be a worker at one of his dad's autoshops. At 22, he'd married a nice girl named Petunia and were trying to have a child. Shawn had flown up a couple times, once to see Cece and once to see Jake and Ellen.

After another hour of chatting, they logged off. Today she'd have to do some writing. "Maybe a story about... the last human on earth..." Ellen said to herself "Or some story about a Hybrid and a human who fall in love! Yes that's a perfect story!" Ellen's furry fingers began to type away, making her story as a bit of a tribute to their love; it was about a nice boy who had befriended an outcast and over time their relationship grew and they confessed their love and had children and...
