Maya's day out.

Happy yipping sounds bounce off the walls in Sunkra's apartment, the otter preparing himself for a nice day off work along with his new friend Maya. Holding two shirts up, Sunkra is trying to decide which one to wear. He doesn't care much for clothing but he wants to look nice. Maya steps out of the bathroom as she wears Sunkra's bathrobe, toweling off the luscious fauna and flora on her head but which for obvious reasons remains wet, her being an aquatic fur and all. The husky puppy which Sunkra still hasn't given a name bounces up and down the apartment, jumping onto the couch and coffee table in excitement, however her otter master will have to disappoint her because this time it's just him and Maya going out to shop her some clothes. All the beautiful girl has now is a dress that Sunkra borrowed from Nana, his bunny colleague at work, she almost thought the otter wanted to try out cross dressing but Sunkra quickly put that out of her mind.

Maya picks the light white shirt for Sunkra to wear over his shorts, the otter pulling on sandals which leaves the girl quite puzzled. The otter attempts to explain with gestures and speech that the footwear is meant to protect feet from injure and filth on the streets, the aquatic girl bright enough to understand what he means. When Maya's all dressed up, Sunkra can't help but admire her beauty and smile, she looks just gorgeous in that summer dress. Doing his utter best, Sunkra mimics a true gentleman and extends his arm for Maya to take, which she does with a heart melting smile. "See you's latah, pup," Sunkra says as they close the door behind them, the husky puppy's wagging tail slowing down to a stop with a sad whimper.

As the two furs step out onto the streets, Maya can't help herself but look her eyes out in wonder as she sees the world and society from the other side of the sea level. Cars passing by, groups of chatting friends and discussing elders walking by as Sunkra and his beautiful companion make their way to the shopping streets, "You's see anythin' you's likah, Maya?"The colourful girl nods and pulls the otter boy into a clothing store where dozens of better class ladies and girls are shopping. Maya manages to turn some eyes, mostly in jealousy as she browses the rather expensive clothes for something she likes. Whilst the other more snobby girls and women paint their faces and furs extravagant to be attractive to their boyfriends and husbands, Maya's charm seems to come to her naturally, grinning in glee as she finds a simple but beautiful dress which she immediately takes to the changing rooms. All eyes are instantly drawn to Sunkra as he waits for her to get changed, which causes the otter to smile uncomfortably, he doesn't look like he belongs in such a fancy store.

When Maya emerges she looks ever so happy, making a short turn as the light dress compliments her curves and the lower reaches follow her every moment so gracefully. The salesgirl comes over and speaks up:"I'm sorry but if you and miss aren't going to buy anything, you'll have to leave."Sunkra frowns in slight disbelief, they may not be dressed rich enough but this is the beach for fur's sake, they don't need to be clad in expensive skin coats. The otter turns to Maya:"Say Maya, shall we shop elsewhere? I've seen something like that dress but much prettier in another shop!"Of course the aquatic girl nods eagerly, unaware of the hostility both the shop and the other clients harbor to the much poorer but more beautiful girl. Sunkra can only frown in distaste at the women's actions, but soon enough Maya closes her arm around his again and they're on their merry way, not going to let this experience spoil the rest of their day.

As promised, Sunkra leads Maya into a much friendlier and much cheaper shop where all the ordinary people can buy clothes without nasty looks and frowns from snobby rich people. Maya is ecstatic, running back and forth and plucking a large pile of fabrics from the hangers, pushing them into Sunkra's arms. The otter boy can't help but grin from ear to ear as he tries to keep up with the excited girl, Maya behaves like a kid in a candy store. Eventually she ushers her mountain of clothes with Sunkra underneath to the changing rooms and the salesgirls help her put everything on, some pieces need to be adjusted to Maya's fins. The otter boy just sits and enjoys along with the girls, laughing and just generally having a good time as Maya picks out her favorites. The mountain of clothes is thinned out and a good one and a half hour later, Sunkra's credit card is a whole lot lighter and his load to carry much heavier. But just seeing Maya happy makes it all worth it. The otter boy blushes as he stumbles after her and when they sit themselves down at a nice little table on the terrace of a restaurant, Sunkra can't help but return Maya's wonderful smile.

The bunny waitress takes their order, greeting Sunkra as the otter boy usually comes to this place, winking at the both of them before she leaves again with the orders taken. The restaurant isn't very big, but its terrace is build on pillars over the beach with a lot of green tropical plants to form some sort of privacy fence against the street side. Maya still barely has spoken a few words since Sunkra met her, and he hasn't heard her sing either ever since the night he was high and stumbled into her, "So... Maya, you's be havin' fun? Likah da' clothes?"The beautiful aquatic girl shows a big white smile and eagerly nods, still looking around as if impressed by the smallest things. People are turning their heads, it's well known that aquatic furs are a rare sight as they don't mingle with land walkers that often so this is a unique occasion. Sunkra smiles:"Say, you's been ovah wid meh fo' a week now bu' I's knows so lil' about you's. Want tah chat?"

It's not a common sight to have the otherwise very social otter stumble for words or correct questions, but having a pretty girl living with you whom seems to just smile and never talk makes conversation one-sided quickly. Maya nods again and leans onto the table just as the bunny waitress delivers the drinks. After a quick glance at the menu, Sunkra orders some fries and steak whilst his female companion points at a fruit salad that a woman nearby is eating. The bunny takes off again and Sunkra takes much delight in seeing Maya being fascinated by the concept of straws as the otter slurps a fruity drink in a tall slender glass. She tries it out too, sucking her own drink through the colourful straw into her mouth, the cold liquid surprising her. "Dun' drink tah fast, you's get a headache," chuckles the otter boy as he thinks of a question he wants to ask:"Say Maya, you's been on land befo'e?"

Maya shakes her head no, still slurping her straw. Sunkra keeps up a smiling expression but he is slightly worried that his companion won't chat with him:"Is dere sum'thin' wrong wid you's voice, Maya? Since you's no' be speakin'?"The girl releases her straw and looks up at the otter, her face still very beautiful but her smile becomes a little less intense in concentration. Sunkra becomes aware of an emotion not native to his own thoughts, almost as if Devia Luna's feelings are projected into his mind. They feel a little sad and apologetic as suddenly a voice talks to the otter inside his head:"Hard... to reach... not attuned."Maya sits there smiling, her mouth not moving once as the voice is very clear. Upon seeing Sunkra's confused expression, the aquatic girl explains as best as she can that sea creatures rarely communicate through sound as water isn't optimal for that medium, they use telepathy. It works the same as a voice and everyone nearby can hear them according to their focused state of mind, distance has little influence. For example the people on the terrace have never experienced telepathy so they will at best hear unclear whispers of what Maya is telling Sunkra or nothing at all if they're focused on chatting with someone else.

Of course Sunkra is completely overwhelmed by this revelation, trying to send back signals for Maya to pick up but she seems to chuckle, her feelings explaining that Sunkra will never be able to be telepathic but that she can pick up on his state of mind as long as she focuses on him. Their apparently silent staring is suddenly interrupted by the bunny waitress as she places their orders onto the table, frowning at the two customers:"Sunkra, are you and your lady feeling alright?"The otter turns to her with a reassuring smile:"Yeah, jus' bein' a lil' silly is all. Lemme get meh monnies."After being paid, the waitress takes off again with wiggling tail, Sunkra turning to his plate and almost salivating at the sight of his steak. Maya looks at the otter and his plate with a calculating look, apparently not liking what she sees but making no notice of it. Instead she enjoys the exotic and foreign flavors the fruit salad has to offer her taste buds.

After they're finished eating, Sunkra and Maya decide to take a last stroll on the banks near the shore, if they would like they could step down some stone stairs to the sandy beach but today they'll just walk amongst the shoppers and sun seekers. They sit themselves down and watch as the sky turns slightly more orange, the early dusk is setting in gradually, pushing away the afternoon. Sunkra feels slightly warm and uncertain, leaning in closer as he pecks a little playful kiss on Maya's cheek. The aquatic girl is surprised and rubs her cheek as she looks questionably at the otter but Sunkra quickly stumbles an explanation:"Is custom tah kiss sumeone you's likah."A blush creeps onto his cheeks even though it's hard to notice that under his fur, but his body language speaks a thousand words. Could it be that Sunkra for the first time in his young life is gaining a crush on someone?

Devia Luna just smiles and leans in to mimic the otter's action, her lips feel moist and silky at the same time as she pushes a kiss on the boy's cheek. Their eyes cross and her smile, oh her wonderful smile makes Sunkra melt where he sits. He is slowly, gently drawn to Maya once more, starting to pucker his lips and closing his eyes as he expects to kiss her luscious set of lips any moment... "Sunk?"Sunkra's eyes open in the sudden interruption and he looks to his side, his handsome zebra friend Milo standing there with his bag around his shoulder and looking kind of shocked. Sure, he has seen Sunkra have sex and fun with others but what looked to be like such an intimate kiss... he never had the otter boy of his dreams do that to him and now he's kissing someone he has never seen before, even more so a girl.

"Oh hai, Milo. Dis be Maya. Maya, dis be Milo!" the boy says quickly to break the uncomfortable silence, he feels kind of busted even though he and the zebra don't have a relationship. Milo glances at the aquatic fur and she smiles meekly at him, she may not understand much of the world above the surface of the sea but she sure does pick up on the awkward emotions, "Hello. I'm Sunkra's best friend."The underlying tone of shocked disappointment and anger is easy to detect and Sunkra quickly stands up with all of Maya's clothing bags:"Lis'en Milo, we's gottah be goin'. Speak tah you's latah online o' on da phone, okies?""Sure, whatever," is the only response and Milo walks away with military thread, not looking back at the boy who stepped on his heart so. The otter takes Maya back to his home and whilst she runs a bath to soak into, Sunkra quickly closes his bedroom door and dials Milo's number a couple of times.

To no avail, the voicemail pops up three times before the otter decides that his zebra friend might need some alone time. Damn it, he thought he had made it clear to Milo that they're just close friends, nothing more. On the other side of the line, Milo sits in his bedroom with his cellphone on silent mode, listening to the vibrations of the device as he ignores the calls. He still lives with his mother and this is the only place of privacy he has in this house. Tears stream down his cheeks and soak into his black and white striped fur, he tries to rub them away with the sleeve of his sweater:"Fuck you, Sunk. Fuck you..."A few sobs and then the uttered words:"I love you so..."
