#2 of Safe for work / No adult content

Once again, I greatly appreciate criticism. While not entirely happy with this one, I felt that I might as well release it; so that I can feel justified in moving on to other texts. If the ending feels abrupt, it might be due to an adult scene having been cut out (which also is why it's a bit short, at slightly above 1200 words). It can, of course, be put back in - but never having had the experience I'm describing in it, makes it kind of hard to be happy with what's been written. Though I haven't ever had experiences with talking hawks or coming out either, and I am publishing the first part of this story. As said, I can add the adult part if someone requests it. I'll shut up now. Enjoy.

Cory bid his best friend farewell as he hurriedly closed the door. It had been a late night for the fox and his hawk friend; they would both have to wake up early in the morning for their respective classes - but who could blame them for losing track of time, in the midst of their laughter and TV-games?

"I need to sleep," he mumbled silently to himself, following his friend's ambling stroll home through the bedroom window. When his friend turned the corner, Cory closed the blinds and, after a quick undress, tucked himself into his bed. He really, really needed to get some sleep - but his thoughts were ambling along with his friend; purposefully holding his sleep back. The thoughts of what he would do... would ask tomorrow was keeping Cory awake.Though eventually the Sandman finally came to his bed, sprinkling the magical sand into his eyes and sending him into the blissful Land of Dreams.

Gavin opened his door after a short walk home from Cory - he was still too young to fly, his muscles not yet fully developed to allow for that. That's why Gavin went to the gym, every other day, after all. Most avian species rarely had kin with the ability to fly - hawks and various species of eagles being exceptions. Somewhere down the line of The Evolution, the feral need to fly for most species had perished and no doubt would the same have happened to the hawks and eagles too, had it not been too important in their rite of passage. Gavin hoped he would gain the strength soon, he could already lift from the ground for a couple of seconds; but still, the average flying age for a hawk is about one year away for him. Most did not learn until the first year of College. He found the nature beautiful enough from the ground, but he really wanted to see it from above. Fall, the calm before the storm, he thought, the most beautiful of seasons, filled with yellow-orange trees, beautiful daisies and stonecrops. He yearningly imagined the colorful vista he had seen so often from the airplane windows.

After quietly closing the door after himself, he silently snuck up to his room. Without caring to undress, the tired avian decided to fall flat on his bed - with thoughts flying around in his head of the fun time he had had today with Cory - before the Sandman took him, too, into the Land of Dreams.

Cory stood deep in thought on the schoolyard, with his friend. "So you're goin' to do it today, then?" Therese asked again, slightly annoyed. "Earth to Cory, are you there?" she said impatiently, pulling the fox's ear. "Ouc- What? Oh, uh, yea- yes I will! I'll do it today!" he answered with a confused tone. "Well, appears he's coming this way. Good luck, champ." Therese said, mentally patting Cory's back, and walked away towards the school building. Cory walked the other way, towards Gavin. He felt heavy; and his hindpaws especially so. An eternity went by before the fox reached the hawk.

"Hey, Cory!"

"Hey, Gav. Do you, uh, like feel like hangin' out again today? A-after school?" Cory half-stammered, avoiding the question he meant to ask.

The hawk looked at him queerly with his piercing eyes. "Yeah sure, meet by the big rock after school, then?"

"Where else?" Cory smiled coyly, pulling himself together. "You'll have to wait for a few minutes... you okay with that?"

"Of course. I'll see you there, gotta run to class."

"See you." Cory started walking, a longing could be seen in his step as he followed the athletic hawk. It would be a long day.

"... and those are the four laws of thermodynamics."

Cory looked up at the clock. Eight minutes left of the dreadful Physics class. It was not for nothing the fox found Physics-class abhorrent, despite his love for the subject itself. Always these age-long lectures, every single one repeating what he already knew. He impatiently started tapping his fingers silently on the table. Today would be the day. And at the big rock too, where they first met so many years ago. He remembered that day well.

I was standing on top of the rock; me and a couple of friends were playing a game. I gave a shout for my friends, as they weren't nearby, before I lost my footing. I hit my head on the rock and I passed out for a couple of seconds. Though I didn't know Gavin then, he found me lying there and helped me to the school nurse to get patched up. We talked a lot that day. We got to know each other that day.

Since that day eight years ago, they had been good friends. The fox went out of his dazed, finger-tapping state as the teacher announced the lecture's end, 3 minutes early. He stood up, and hurried to his locker.

Gavin sat on the rock, listening to music, waiting. 15:02. Cory would be here any second now. The rock, being in a grove on the way to Cory's place, was shielded from view.

Here I go, here I go, here I go again (again?)

Girls, what's my weakness? (Men!)

Cory behaved queerly today. Hehe, queerly, he thought, perhaps he's going to come out to me. The hawk smiled at his own unwit, even though it was obvious. Not only Cory's subtle actions gave it away, but also his web-history. Gavin never snooped, but when website suggestions with the word "gay" in them frequently popped up on Cory's computer - well, it was hard not to notice. The music went on.

Then I flipped for a tip, make me wanna do tricks for him

Lick him like a lollipop should be licked

Came to my senses-

He turned off the music and removed his headphones as he saw Cory approaching. "Hey! Fun in Physics?"

"You'd not believe me if I told you," Cory gave a slight pause, "how goddamn boring it was! Another lecture!"

Gavin chuckled. "Another one? One would think he'd be out of things to say, by the sounds of it."

"Well... he is rattling on about the same stuff over and over again..." He seated himself on the big rock. "Uh, oh yeah - I ha-have to tell you something."

He kissed me! He kissed me! Cory repeated the mantra in head, relieved, as they were playing the co-op mode of the latest edition of Call of Duty. "Mission Success," the screen read as they beat the final wave.

"Finally!" Gavin exclaimed happily. "That took us long enough."

He kissed me! He kissed me! "It was hard."

They both stretched their bodies, relieving their tense upper bodies. "So uh... you've never done it, right?" the hawk said gawkily, as he wrapped his right wing around the fox.

He kiss- "D-one wha-what?" Cory shifted uncomfortably under the hawk's wing, yet Gavin tightened his hold. Gavin's hard beak met the fox's muzzle, as he moved in for a kiss. Gavin carefully pushed the light-weighted fox down into a supine position, as he broke the kiss.

Gavin put on as goofy of a smile as he could. "Oh." He kissed me again!
