A Dying Message

Meanwhile...

"Shit! Where the hell is that small bastard?! At least, now I know this place had a high ceiling, I can just jump on the top of these mazes and..."

A sudden roar startled Seraphor. He knew that didn't come from the small dragon, but a much bigger and older one. It was clearly angry being woken up, but the problem was the silver red realized he was in an ancient trap. When he jumped toward the top of the maze, he realized the wall was only made of hard earth, but not solid rock. He was able to blow three layers of them with earth power, and run through them only depending on his earth destroyer touch.

He knew the powerful roar grew close, but then, another roar came out near him that made his sensitive ears grew sore. Something was near him that responded to the ancient roar, and from the voice, he realized he got to hurry before he witnessed another total chaos.

Spyro was really trying to control his transformation, knowing that he wasn't in a rage now and he started to feel the agony of heat. His eyes became watery, and his whole body was like being roasted. The feeling started to overwhelm his own consciousness, and the pain caused him to roar in agony, but no voice came out.

"Was it...was it because of my...reaction towards Hunter?" thought Spyro while succumbing to his inner demon. "My hatred took the best on me..."

"Spyro! Stop messing around! There's a fucking beast in this place...shit, he's out of it."

Seraphor came just in time to see Spyro turning to the dragon. When the silver red saw a cheetah's body near it, he had just enough time to save it before it was roasted by the heat. He realized it was still alive, but there was blood at its abdomen and judging from how much blood it had spilled, it had only some times before it died. Somehow Seraphor could say Spyro was emotionally taken by the cheetah, and Seraphor quickly deduced that it was Hunter.

It was carrying a broken bow, and it also had some markings near his rosettes, stained with blood. It was breathing hard and in the verge of death. Unless there's a tending to its wound, it would die. But then, Seraphor was taken on both sides. Either he took the cheetah to Terrador waiting outside, but Spyro would have to engage a fight with the ancient dragon, or helping Spyro, but leaving him heart-broken if he knew his friend died. He had two almost impossible choices that could lead either the death of his counterpart (though it seemed not likely if the dragon was in control), or the death of Spyro's best friend. He was in a deep thought and panicked when he could see the dark figure of the ancient dragon when a dying voice was speaking to the silver red.

"H...hey, you, the silver one..."

Seraphor realized it came from the anthropomorphic cheetah, so he turned and said, "Yeah?"

"P...please, don't let the roar...fools you," said Hunter while coughing blood. "Take Spyro out before he...falls for it. I'm just...a decoy."

"Decoy? Hey, can you tell me more...wait a sec, you need medical..."

"It's useless...." He coughed again. "My...my liver is torn out...and I won't be alive...for much longer. Go and take Spyro...before it's too late."

Now, fueled by the willing to find out, Seraphor put Hunter down while he gave his ice touch to Hunter, slowing his blood spill. He then said, "Just...do me a favor. Don't die before Spyro sees you."

"I...I will try."

Seraphor then jumped toward the source of the roar, and he was surprised to know that the roar came from none other than the mysterious blue dragon. More, it wasn't a magic, but a genuine roar.

"Y...you?! You produced that ancient roar?!"

"Ancient? Talking about that made me feel old again," said the blue dragon. "Well, that's not important. In fact, I'm going to bury..."

The purple dragon then lunged toward the blue dragon, taking them both by surprise. The dragon was clearly out of control, and he was struggling with the blue dragon. The silver red realized their quarrel started to make small earthquakes that started to destroy the ceiling and dropping lethal stones down to them. The blue dragon was also a sacrifice to ensure both Seraphor and Spyro died. Knowing this was a trap, he tried to stop the dragons from rampaging.

"Spyro, stop! You're making this place a wreck! We'll gonna be buried alive if you continue! Hey, if you can still hear me, you gotta listen, whatever you are. If you end up burying us alive, you won't be alive too, you hear me?! You're a parasite in Spyro's body and you'll die with him. Just fucking stop!"

Seraphor knew talking to a dragon out of consciousness was useless. He didn't concern the blue dragon since he was in critical state, but the dragon still wanted to kill him. The silver red then wanted to shock the dragon when it suddenly stopped and reverted back to Spyro in an instant, without even making the host faint.

"Eh...what am I doing on this motherfucker? I...did this?" said Spyro when he saw the blue dragon's bloodied body and his own claws. Like a lightning bolt, Spyro snapped and said, "Where's Hunter?! We gotta help him!"

Ignoring the blue dragon, Spyro and Seraphor ran toward the exit while Seraphor took Hunter to his back. The cave quickly trapped them by blocking the exit, but they were fortunate Terrador and Seraphor were able to open the path for them.

"Spyro, what on all ancestors is going on in there?! There's a tremor when I heard a roar...it wasn't from an earthquake," said Terrador while helping Spyro to clean his wings.

"Yeah...can you...is it...too late for Hunter?"

"No," said Seraphor. "It's not too late...but he'll be leaving us soon."

"C...can you save him? He's my best friend, a great archer...but why he...he must die in this fucking thing?"

"Spyro, all life must eventually go. This cheetah is a great warrior, and he'll be with his great warriors too."

"It is...," said Hunter when he coughed blood again. "Spyro...buddy, I'm glad you're alright." Spyro walked closer to Hunter. The open wound on the cheetah's abdomen made Spyro knew the fact that Hunter was going to die. He started to cry, but hold his tears at bay, but Hunter could see it.

"D...don't hesitate...we're not going to meet in some times...."

"B...but you still have Sara...you said you wanted to get married and...and make a big tribe. You're a..."

"I know...but I'm also a warrior. A...warrior must be honorable...and I had just did that. Spyro...those dragons's lair...is up at the...coldest region of...Misty Mountains."

"Misty Mountains? But...we can't..."

"I know you can.... You saved our realms many times...and I can see you've got a new friend."

Spyro couldn't reply because he was too busy to hold his tears, before one fell over Hunter. The cheetah also started to cry, and of course the blood he coughed splat on Spyro's face.

"I'm...actually very sad to leave you all...but, I'm nothing but a decoy...not a warrior died in a fight. A...at least, this is the only thing I can do...to save our realm again."

"You can't die! You still have the time to live..."

"Spyro," interrupted the cheetah. His life started to fade. "We all had the times on this world. T...tell Sara...that I love her...and to everyone...I'm sorry..."

The last ounce of Hunter's soul faded away, and his head fell slumped on the ground, dead. Spyro that couldn't hold his sadness roared in a low tone that made the place seemed gloomy. Both Terrador and Seraphor lowered their head in respect. Suddenly, Spyro fainted. Seraphor could only say he was too deep in sadness.

"I'll leave you two...the kid's mental is broken now seeing a friend died in front him. You're his counterpart, after all. Just try to reason with him so we can stop all of this mess."

Terrador then opened his wings and leave, leaving Seraphor and the unconscious Spyro together. The silver red wondered how he could find a place for a proper burial since he didn't know any of this cheetah's customs (believing Hunter came from a tribal community). But, the silence stopped because of a voice...and the voice was as ancient as its wise tone.

"Seraphor, I presume? You're wise for a young dragon."

Seraphor was surprised. The sound was not coming from his head, but it really resembled Ernest's. He thought the black dragon would be near him and accidentally taking his soul away again like last time, but what he saw was different.

Spyro's body started to make smoke, and the same intense heat came out from the small dragon and engulfing him. Before Seraphor's eyes he was astonished to see how Spyro changed into a dragon...a dragon with full consciousness and not in a rage.

"But not wise enough to be said an old dragon...a lot like me."
