The Alpha Males Rights
This is a multi-part story about the Moonlight Wolfpack. In the first part to the Moonlight packs story, the packs survival is in question and the future is uncertian. Quick action must be taken to prevent the demise of the Moonlight Wolfpack.
It's had been an intense and extreme winter so far, more extreme and Intense than usual. The Moonlight Pack spent the unforgiving winter curled up inside their den, only leaving their den to find food or to find drink. The Moonlight pack leader was a powerful male named Eclipse. Eclipse was in his prime as leader of the Moonlight pack, he routinely took down moose and bison and he made it look easy. His lifelong mate and the Moonlight packs Alpha Female Starlight had died earlier in the winter, her skull crushed by a bison hoof during a hunting trip in their territory. Eclipse had been so busy keeping the pack fed and mourning the loss of his beloved Starlight that he neglected to find a new Alpha Female for his pack. Eclipse knew the pack needed to grow but he was in such mourning most of the winter that the need hadn't really mattered to him until half the winter was already over. All of the Females in the Moonlight pack had clearly made their intentions known, they all wanted to be the next Alpha Female in the Moonlight pack, all the Females except one that is.
Aurora, named for her blueish white fur which shimmered like the lights in the northern sky, had only just matured and had only just started hunting with the adult wolves in the Moonlight pack. Up until Recently Aurora was the pack Nanny, watching the few pups in the Moonlight packs den while the adults went out on their hunting trips. Aurora was without question the most beautiful female in the Moonlight pack and she was also the healthiest, so it really surprised Eclipse that Aurora didn't seem to be interested in being his mate. Night after night while mourning his beloved Starlight, Eclipse wondered why Aurora wasn't showing any interest in him and he wondered why she wasn't making the same invitations the other Females in the Moonlight pack were making. It was like she was telling him that he was not good enough for her an she didnt want him. After awhile her lack of interest irritated Eclipse and it made him feel like she thought he wasn't a good enough pack leader to put pups in her.
One day Eclipse was outside the Den and he noticed that Aurora was sleeping outside with one of Starlights pups next to her. He was intriqued by what he saw and so he decided to have a chat with Aurora and find out what was really going through her mind and find out why she had no interest in him. He walked up to the Blueish wolf that was sleeping on her tummy next to a rock outside the den with the curled up Pup next to her front left paw. Looking at the young female wolf Eclipse cleared his throat and began to speak to her.
"Hey Aurora we need to have a chat."
Aurora woke up and nudged the pup telling it to go back inside the den where it was warmer as snow started to lightly fall outside the den. She looked at Eclipse seeming to already know what he was going to ask her and she lowered her tail between her legs and responded.
"What is on your mind Eclipse?"
Eclipse simply looked on at Aurora with an annoyed expression on his face.
"Why are you ignoring me so much and not even making yourself available to me? You know that the pack needs a new Alpha Female and yet even though you are the most logical choice you ignore me and don't look at me and when I am around, you lower your tail and act like you don't want to be near me. I want to know whats going on and I wan't to know now! I am tired of you acting this way around me, it makes me feel like I'm not good enough for you in your eyes."
Aurora lowered her tail further and turned her head away from Eclipse.
"Thats not it at all Eclipse you really don't understand Females at all do you? For the last two winters you have had me protect Starlights pups and take care of them. How do you expect me to want to have young with you when I have spent the last two winters raising Starlights pups and they aren't even fully grown yet. It would make me feel better if you waited for them to grow up and then chose a Alpha Female, that way Starlights legacy at least has a chance to live on in our pack. Starlights pups deserve the right to be allowed a chance at being Alpha Female too."
As Eclipse sat and listened to Aurora he suddenly became furious and growled at her angrily.
"How dare you Aurora, you are not the Alpha Male of this pack I am the Alpha Male and yet you believe you have the right to make future decisions for this pack! I am the Alpha Male not you! I decide the packs future not you! You want to know what the pack needs? I will tell you what the pack needs! The pack needs a strong Alpha Female to replace Starlight as soon as possible! She was a great loss to our hunting party and we do not have time to wait for the pups to mature! We are already down 3 hunters this winter and the neighboring Snowbound pack will run us out of our territory if we don't have future pack members to defend our territory! If you really cared about the pups you would care about what the Snowbound pack would do to Starlights pups when they get their teeth on them!"
Aurora sat and listened to the Alpha Male yell and growl at her and she wimpered because she knew that he was right. What had she been thinking? It was not her place to decide the packs future it was his and now listening to Eclipse she suddenly realized that everything that he was saying was true. If the Moonlight pack did not replace the losses they had suffered this winter, the Snowbound pack would take advantage in a couple years and kill everyone in the Moonlight pack including Starlights pups and take their territory. The pack really didn't have any time to waste in choosing a new Alpha Female.
"You are right Eclipse I am sorry I was just trying to honor Starlights legacy, please don't be mad at me. If you want me to be the new Alpha Female I will gladly be the Moonlight Packs new Alpha Female and I will create a new future for our pack."
Hearing the words come from Auroras mouth, Eclipse smiled and laid beside her and nuzzled her to show that he wasn't mad at her anymore. Eclipse felt bad that he had to be so rough on her and to the point but he realized that the Moonlight pack didn't have any time to waste. The Snowbound pack was already showing aggression as they were occasionally hunting inside the Moonlight Packs territory without Eclipses permission. It took him only a moment to say what was on his mind.
"Aurora I choose you. You are my mate now ok."
As Aurora nodded in approval they both laid there next to the rock outside the den as the snow started to fall in a heavier fashion all around them. Eclipse and Aurora huddled to keep eachother warmer and Eclipse laid his head on Auroras shoulder. Aurora knew what laid down the road and she knew she had an important duty to fulfill to the pack now. It would be up to her to keep the pack going. The packs future survival centered on whether she could provide the pups the Moonlight pack desperately needed to protect itself in the future. Even with all the worry and anticipation in the back of her mind she quickly found comfort in Eclipse laying beside her. As Eclipse kept her warm Aurora soon fell fast asleep, wondering what the future truly had in store for her and the Moonlight pack.
