Ellen                             Chapter 1: A Friend   Jake began hoping up and down in the back of the car. He was getting his birthday present today! Today was his tenth birthday and he was getting his present! He wondered what it would be: Maybe a new game system, or a new computer! or maybe... "We're here!" Jakes dad, Mr. Middleson, said with a gruff laugh. Jake pushed his face towards the window, seeing it: It was a Companion building! Companions were genetically engineered humans with animalist properties.things like the fur, eyes, ect. were animalistic, but had the posture of human and the ability to speak and comprehend things like a human. They were sold much like pets and had very few rights. Of course there were laws against beating companions, but it didn't stop many people from doing so. Getting out of the car excitedly, he walked with his parents inside the building and up to the front desk. "Yes, we're here to adopt a Companion" Ryan said instead of "Buy", knowing how his son had a strange respect for them "What age are you looking for, Sir?" the receptionist asked "Well my son is ten" Mr middleson responded hoping the receptionist caught his drift "Ah yes, Sir. Right this way." the Woman then lead Jake and his parents down a hall to a door mark '6 - 10' and used a keycard to open it. Inside the room was about a couple dozen of Companions sitting around talking. There was varying species - A couple of mice, a few breeds of dog, A horse, and a few felines. After each one greeted him, most went back to there normal activities while a few chatted with Jake. After a few minutes, he noticed a Companion who hadn't greeted: A lone wolf reading a book in the corner. The wolf looked a little lonely all by themself. Jake decided to ditch the other companions for this one. He didn't know why but he felt strangly drawn to the wolf. Sitting across from the wolf and noticing it hadn't noticed him, he began to strike-up a conversation. "Hello, i'm Jake" He said as the wolf looked up from the book to him. She had crystal blue eyes and a normal muzzle for a wolf-companion. She had large ears on the top of her head and wore a white dress. She was skinny but not boney. "Uh... Hi" the wolf said, Jake telling from the voice that she was female. "So... Why're you here? Why aren't you with the other companions?" Jake asked. The wolfess put on a frown "Oh i uh... don't... no one really... likes me here..." She said. "You don't have any friends?" He asked, not knowing he was basically putting salt on open words. She gave a simple nod and just stared at the ground. Now he felt like a jerk. She had no friends and he just said it to her face. "Well you don't have to worry about that anymore." "Whattya mean" She said with a sniff "You're going home with me!"  "Really?!?!" the girl asked still suspecting the other Companions had put him up to this "Ya! you're a nice girl and you need a friend!" Jake said running off to tell his parents he'd found a friend!

"Mom! Dad! i found a new friend!" Jake said excitedly "Where is he?" His mother asked, looking around at possible canidates. "He? No mom she's a wolf." Jake explained as he pointed over to the wolf who waved back with a small smile. "She doesn't have any friends, but she's really nice!" Jake said.

Soon after the cost was paid and the papers were signed, Jake, His parents, and the wolf all walk to their car. Jake and the wolf walked side by side, both grinny broadly. The girl was without her collar or leash that the company had given them. Jake thought it made her like a pet, and he saw her as a friend. "So sweety" Jake's mother began "We never ask but... What's your name?" Jake realized he hadn't even asked her her name! "I- uh I don't have one" The girl replied "You don't have a name! We've gotta give you one! hm... let me think.." Jake said, determined to give her a name. "Ah! I got one! why not..."   "Ellen!"   When Jake had said the name, Ellen (as she would now be known by) flung her arms around him and began to thank him "Oh thank you thank you! I have a name!" She continued to which his parents "Awww'd". Soon they were all in the car. As they drove, Ellen began looking out the window at all the strange new sights. It was amazing! There were all these people! These REALLY tall buildings! They reached the sky and had these strange clear things! (Ellen had never seen windows before.) Soon they had arrived at the Middlesons house. It was so big! and it had those wierd clear things too! Is this where she was going to live? "We're here!" Mr Middleson exclaimed much like the first time. Soon everyone was out of the car and Jake was leading Ellen by the arm to the door "Welcome to you're new home!" Jake said, opening the door. The place was simple enough: There was a family room with a Tv, a Kitchen, A dining room, an upstairs and a basement. "Mom, Dad, I'm gunna go show Ellen our room, okay?" Jake told them as he lead the girl upstairs. "Okay honey, were gunna order a pizza!" His mom yelled to him Soon they were in Jake's (and soon to be Ellen's) Room. "This is your new room!" Jake said as Ellen flung her arms around him. "Oh thank you Jake! You've given me more than ten years at that awful place! You've given me the most kindness in all my life." Ellen said, now weeping into his neck After about 30 minutes, Jake's mother called to them. "Jake! Ellen! pizza's here!" Jake was about to get up until he noticed Ellen had fallen asleep in his lap. Gently giving her a shake, she began to wake up. "Hey, how long has it been" Ellen said with a yawn, which made Jake smile "Only about 20 minutes, come on, Mom got a pizza." he said, leading her downstairs After they got their plates, Jake got Ellen her and his pizza and went back to their room. "What is this stuff. Jake?" She asked, poking a finger (Companions have more human-like hands, although they have retractable claws) at the bubbling cheese. "It's a pizza slice. Try it, it's really good" Jake said before returning back to his slice. Ellen then tried it. Her eyes lit up. This was delicious! It was like a million flavours in one food! Back at the Lab (as she liked to call it, it felt alot like she was a rat in the place) she got very simple food: Usually eggs and toast for breakfast, a indefinable-meat sandwhich, and for dinner another meat-sandwhich. They really cut corners in that aspect, they never changed anything. But this was great! "I can see you like it" Jake said with a laugh. After they cleaned up and Ellen continually praised pizza as some new god, Jake showed her the television to which she tried to reach into it. After a few hours, it was time to go to bed, which created a few problems. Ellen's bed wouldn't be ready until at least tommorow (Jake's parents had already bought one, but hadn't put it together) so they'd have to sleep in the same bed.

As Jake put on his pajama's and Ellen had put on a spare of his, they both crawled into his bed, it being so small they had to be pressed to each other. Soon Jake had fell asleep, but Ellen hadn't. She just stared at the ceiling with a smile. Right now she was in her new home, with her new friend. Jake was the best (And first) friend she'd ever had. Soon she fell off intro Dreamland

As the sun came up, a Boy and his Wolf companion began to wake up. Jake woke up to a face-full of fur from Ellen's neck. It appeared that Ellen had snuggled close to him during the night. Releasing her grip, he changed into his day clothes. Right now it was the middle of summer, and he'd be going into the 5th grade in the fall. As he began to think how school would be with Ellen and how his friends would react to her, he heard a yawn and shuffling at the bed. Turning around, he was met with a blue-eyed wolf. "Morning" She muffled out as Jake gave a laugh. As they headed downstairs, they were met with a "Good Morning" from Jake's mom and were served some waffles "Okay kids, today were going to go shopping for some clothes for Ellen, then we can go get a movie and we'll get some more pizza" Jake's mom said to which Ellen stopped eating her waffles and looked up expectantly, hoping to get pizza right at that moment. After the breakfast, the group all piled into the car and headed to the Mall. "Okay Ellen, lets see what size you are..." Jake's mother said as she called another woman to help with the problem. Soon they were out of the store with about 10 shirts and pants, a couple dresses and some PJ's. They all got some lunch until and stopped by the toy store, getting a video game and a few other toys, they headed for the movie store to get a couple movies to watch that night "Uh, Jake, Which movies are good?" Ellen asked. She'd never seen a movie (except for some television) and really didn't know what was good "Well, it depends. We'll watch whatever you want to watch, but i would suggest something like a comedy." Ellen did get a comedy, but it was a romantic one. Jake honestly didn't really like those kind of movies, but was willing to put up with it for his new friend. When they exited the store, Jake's mom told them she was going to run to the store. As they headed back, Ellen accidentally bumped into a large man. Quickly the man turned around and began yelling at her "You damn mutt! Watch where you're going! You damn Furs need to learn their place!" The man continued his yelling as tears began to well in Ellen's eyes. "HEY! leave my friend alone jerk!" Jake yelled. Ellen was rather fragile and emotional and Jake couldn't stand to see her hurt. "Kid, If you defend a Fur like her, you're just a worse-" "No, If i defend her, it makes me a decent person! She is the kindest, sweetest person i've ever met! If you discriminate against her, you're a bad person!" Jake yelled, grabbing her and storming off. Once they got inside the car, Ellen began to apologise. "Oh i'm so sorry Jake! I should've watched where i was going, I didn't mean to get you mad!" "You're sorry? Ellen, you have nothing to be sorry for. You didn't do ANYTHING wrong. That guy was just a jerk and can't appreaciate how great you are" Jake then gave her a hug while she cried into his chest. After they got back, It was about 8 o'clock. When they had gotten out the menu (And Ellen gawked at the number of different toppings and pizza's the place had) They ordered some pizza, changed into their PJ's and put on the movie. After Midnight, Jake's mom had gone to bed and they both leaned next to each other. The day had been eventful and they were very tired. Soon they both fell asleep under the Television's glow.

End of Chapter 1

This was a fun story to right, mainly because i can create my own world instead of using the pokemon one for A Trainer's Tale (Which doesn't mean i don't like it, in fact i plan on making more Pokemon stories). The next chapter will be about school life and how people react to her being in school.
