#3 of Return of the Lycans

Part to of Return of the Lycans. This is a continuation of Last of the Lycans only it takes place thousands of years after. Humans have grown and evolved as they moved away from the area and forgot anything about Lycans and Gods.

Nick Holland, a Mythology professor, is dragged to a excavation site. But it turns out to be much more then he bargained for.

This is a squeal to Last of the Lycans and yes, some characters will be making a comeback so keep an eye out! :3

Return of the Lycans is edited, or rather more co-written by aacid He is an awesome, extremely talented writer that everyone should read. I thank him immensely for his work.

I think this is going to turn out to be awesome! I would love to hear what you guys think! Leave a comment to what you think is going to happen or what you want to happen!

When Nick emerged from his tent he found that the sun had already risen over the canopy and workers were already busily getting ready for the day ahead. There was a table that had some coffee pots on it, revealed he pored himself a cup and walked up to Drake who was already barking orders to start excavating the site Huvert was always hesitant to start.

"Finally awake huh?" Drake asked not even looking away from his work.

"Yeah, unfortunately." Nick stretched his back and yawned, taking a sip of the coffee. It was cold. "But I think I hurt my back."

"Mmhmm that'll happen when you sleep on the ground. Welcome to archeology." Drake chuckled glancing momentarily at him and then back at his work. "Hey! Get those guys around here! I want the brushes and sifters to be ready!" Then he repeated the orders in the other language. A couple men nodded at the directions and followed where Drakes hand pointed. "But yeah, Huvert already left." Nick glanced around and noticed the absence of his presence. The man stuck out even while being fairly short.

"Well, it will just mean that you can pay more attention to me." Nick took another sip of the cold coffee and watched for a while as the men broke ground on the undisturbed section. He kept waiting for something to happen like Huvert said, either an accident to happen or the generator to loose power but nothing of the sort happened and the workers started clearing away the soil without any trouble.

"See! I told you." Drake laughed triumphantly, "All a bunch of superstitious hoopla." He descended into the shallow hole giving careful instructions, Nick followed closely behind.

"You know Drake, I find this incredibly close to the Library fiasco." Nick mentioned.

"Oh come on, when will you let that go! That was like two years ago and I already told you I took the blame for the fire!"

"Yeah but it was you who brought me along. What happened here?" Nick jabbed back smiling.

"Oh, we're in the middle of the forest, do you really think we're going to accidentally start a bonfire of books again?" Drake crossed his arms and smirked.

Nick killed off the last of his cold coffee and shrugged. "Hey all I'm say is that it's starting off very similarly."

"I'll keep that in mind." Drake mumbled.

Suddenly from the other side of the hole one of the workers called out, Nick understood some of the words. "...Found something!" Drake bolted over and Nick closely followed. The worker was using a trowel to carve away at some dirt that covered what seemed like just a coincidental stone to Nick at first but as Drake talked to the worker in the foreign language Nick studied it. It seemed that the two had no idea what they had but Nick had an idea. He noticed that it was a corner edge and there was a mound of dirt in the middle of the site yet to be touched.

"I think it's a foundation." Drake said, returning to their language.

"No it's not."

Drake cocked his head to one side and crossed his arms. "What makes you say that."

"Well for starters, do you notice any other stone foundations around here?" Nick said, speaking the obvious.

"But early civilizations like this probably used stone for the buildings in the middle. It was probably some religious building or what not." Drake said showing off his intelligence but this was some religious building, it would probably have to do with mythology, where Nick excelled.

"You're right this was part of a religious ceremony." He moved to the center and started moving away the mound of dirt. "If I'm correct." He dug a little faster until he hit stone. "Which I am, this is an alter."

Drake and several of the workers pooled around the alter. They worked feverishly to excavate the entire slab and once they were done they all took a step back.

"Damn Nick." Is all Drake could come up with. It was a little on the smaller side, around five feet wide, three feet long, and stood three above the ground. No other marks stood around it and there were no other alters such as this in the entire site.

Nick smiled and stepped to it, keeling in front to get closer. As he got closer he noticed there were markings in the stone, crude and undefined but markings they still were. "Strange. I've never seen these before not even in Esirah settlements."

Nick reached his hand out and drew it along the stone, it's surface incredibly smooth. Suddenly he had the sudden urged to place both his hands flat on the stone. He did so. His body straightened and eyes stared deeply at the 'writing.'

"Nick?" Drake asked noticing something wrong. "You alright?" Nick couldn't hear him though. To Nick all other noise died and it was just him; him and one other person. He could not see who, but Nick knew that he was there.

"Human." In called in a low rumbling voice that seemed to shake the ground. "I have watched you since you set food on this ground as I have watched many that have as well." The day turned bright and the forest all but faded away leaving behind a white canvas. "I have looked in side of you and found good."

"W.....w....who are you?" Nick finally managed to get out of his mouth. His hands were still melded to the stone. Suddenly, in a grand swirl of light and yellow a figure appeared, larger then any other thing he had seen before. It was a he, and it had the head of a wolf, no, the entire body of a wolf in an anthropomorphic shape. In it's right paw was a grand spear, circled with what seemed like gold. It wore armor that, along with the spear, glittered like the sun.

"I am The Giver, the spouse to Mother Wolf, creator of the Lycans. I am Sumitar." It thundered in it's mighty voice. Nick cowered under his voice. His entire body convulsed as he tried shield his eyes. "I have come to you to fulfill a promise I made long ago before what your race have deemed 'time.'"

Nick squeezed his eyes shut. There is no possible way this was happening. He was probably hallucinating, soon he would wake up. "No, this isn't real! It's just a dream! You're not real." Nick tried to get up but his hands were still connected.

"Fool!" It growled flaring it's black nostrils and baring it's teeth. Fire burst out of his growl and he stepped forward pointing his spear directly at Nick's forehead. "Your science has explained many things, but those who hide behind the work of others and believe only because others believe are Fools!"

Nick winced but still didn't feel convinced. The wolf drew back his spear. "I have deemed you worthy out of every human that has stepped foot in this forest."

"Wo....worthy of what?" Nick was a little apprehensive to ask but Sumitar continued.

"I have deemed you as my prophet for the return of the Mother Wolf's race. The Lycans."

Nick couldn't believe what he was hearing. This was all a dream, he knew it. That was the only explanation. "A prophet! I haven't been apart of any religion." Nick argued, following along with what he thought was his mind. "Find someone else."

Sumitar once again growled but this time he stepped closer. Nick pulled at his hands again but they were still connected to the alter. "Since when has a mortal challenged a God!" He roared and extended his arm touching his index finger and thumb right above Nick's eyes. "I shall grant you with knowledge and experience and send you my closest follower. Then you will understand."

Nick's head flushed with darkness as images of battle swept through his head. He saw the rise of the first Human kingdom, but also another equal race rise with them. The Lycans. The battles grew more intense until it showed the forming of the moon and the Lycans changing into wolves. A punishment for their acts. Nick fell forward gasping for air. Finally his arms were released but the God started to fade away.

"You are the first Human to have this knowledge. You will be tried, but you must be successful. Beware Futurda."

Nick took in a huge breath and found himself on his back staring up into the blue sky. Faces looked down upon him, their faces perplexed. Suddenly he heard a voice.

"Nick! Are you ok?" It was Drake. He was standing over his feet reaching out a hand. Nick took it and Drake pulled him up helping him regain his balance. "You put your hands on that stone and you went ridged for around five seconds before falling back onto the ground. What happened?"

Nick shook his head and glanced around but something seemed different. He could hear everything, and understand it too! Behind them two workers chatted and Nick understood like he had been speaking their language all his life! His sense of smell also seemed more apparent as he could smell the raw ingredients stored in the cooler across the camp.

"Uhhh.....I....." he began. "I...I don't know. I was just awestruck with amazement I guess." It was a horrible excuse and Nick knew it but nothing better came to mind but Drake laughed and patted him on the back again.

"Oh that's a relief." Nick cocked his head. "A relief? Why?"

"I thought it was something more serious. Anyone who uncovers a huge discovery usually losses touch with the world for a second. It happened to me on my first dig. But don't worry, if you'll pardon the pun the dust will settle." To Nick that seemed like a ridiculous answer but he wasn't about to refute it. "Nick why don't you go lie down in the tent, I'll have the team excavate more and I'll send the medic in."

Nick turned to the tent. "Oh that won't be necessary. I'm fine just a little shaken up, a nap will be nice"

Drake nodded. "Alright, holler if you need anything."

Nick smiled and turned to the tent once inside he laid down on the sprawled out sleeping bag and closed his eyes. But an irritating itch bothered his upper arm, he reached under his shirt to scratch but he immediately stopped with his eyes wide. With one hand holding his shirt open he looked and saw a small patch of dark brown hair growing in a small cluster.

"I...is that fur?"
