Before you read this I would like to apologize for the slight (crazy long) delay. I managed to get stuck at the beginning and had to create that after finishing the rest of the story. (Yes I wrote it backwards.)
As always please enjoy the story and feel free to comment on it. I am an amateur writer and need advice. And of course...
The persons depicted here are obviously fake. And any reference to persons living or dead is coincidental. The events are also fake. Except for the battle of Okinawa. The weapons mentioned are real as are the XXIV Corps.
All characters belong to me.
"I say we go right." Said Cody. "I'm the one in charge and I say we go left." Was Andrews reply.
After walking down the tunnel for a few hundred feet they discovered a room full soldiers standing around a table with a large map.
there was a pause before one of the Japanese commanders shouted
<AMERICANS! Shoot them you fools!>*
"Norman?" Asked Andrew, "How fast can you mark this as a command center?"
"Done!" He replied, then turned and ran.
"Aardvark's got the right idea. Follow him!" ordered Andrew.
"Would now be a good time to say I told you to go right sir?"
"Shut it."
They ran through endless tunnels not taking time to note where they were or the turns they made. They kept running until they came upon a large room with about twenty scientists working on various consoles around the edges of the room. In the center of the room sat an odd large glass tube, about 7 feet in diameter and height. Within that tube was a glass tube slightly smaller than the first. Between the tubes sat a complex pattern of wire. That was not the odd thing about them though. The oddity was a small arch made out of an unknown substance that shined like pure gold yet had an odd blue tint to it. The arch sat atop two spheres of equal size. They were also made out of an unknown substance; this however was not the same substance of the arch. This was a dull grayish black substance. The machine started to hum and the strange arch began to spin slowly.
The small team stood looking at it for a moment before hearing someone shout and the distinct click of a gun.
They turned toward the source. One of the scientists had pulled a Nambu pistol on the team. Around the room the other scientists also pulled out guns of their own. Many just had a small sidearm, but there were a few rifles and a MP 18 submachine gun pointed toward the five-man team. Suddenly a shot rang out; not knowing who fired it the team opened fire.
The scientist that had first pulled a gun was down within moments after receiving a round from Cody's shotgun. The Japanese also opened fire and succeeded in hitting Norman in the shoulder. But they stopped after one of the scientists started shouting.
<Don't shoot you fools! You might hit the device! >
Meanwhile the machine kept getting louder and started emitting a strange yellowish green light from the center of the strange arch. This however went unnoticed by the team.
The team was puzzled for a moment before Cody said, "They stopped shooting for fear of hitting the device. Everyone looked at him questioningly. He shrugged and said "what? I learned Japanese back in high school."
There was a pause before William spoke up and said "Did they say what the device does?" "Nope."
"I have an idea." Said Andrew. "I get up and threaten to shoot the device and Cody acts as translator."
"No that sounds like a horrible idea. And besides what makes you think they will listen to me?"
"If they don't the rest of us make them listen to us."
William said plainly. "Fine I'll do it." "Great now on three. One...two..."
"Three!" Cody suddenly shouted. He jumped up and shouted <surrender! Or we destroy this device! > The head scientist simply laughed and said <you speak like a three year old kit. And you have no way to back up your claim to destroy the machine. >
Suddenly Andrew popped up with his machine gun. <Now I have a way and a friend to back me up. > Said Cody.
The scientist cursed and was about to negotiate when a young fox scientist pulled out a gun and shot Andrew. In a flash Cody pulled out a FP-45 Liberator and shot the foolish fox. This caused the other Japanese to open fire on him. He ducked back behind the machine and was about to grab a gun when he heard the head scientist shout <NO YOU FOOL!!!> And then saw the very familiar shape of a grenade land next to him. Shouting "GET DOWN!" he grabbed it and threw it back before throwing himself to the floor.
Time shifted into slow motion then, as the grenade twirled through the air in its deadly ballet before exploding into thousands of little pieces. Anyone not behind cover was killed instantly, and those behind cover were knocked out by the blast.
The shock wave from the blast destroyed the glass surrounding the spinning arch and caused it to go into its final stage of operation. The air in the room turned foggy due to the damaged machine. But it still spun faster, until a small strange void about the diameter of a pencil opened up in the air above the machine.
