#2 of Memories of Us

"You are... Always going to be... A brother to me..."

~ 6 Years Later ~

"Andre! You'll miss the bus!" A voice shouted. I glanced out the door of my room as I buttoned up the collar of my school shirt.

"Give me a second, mom! I'm coming!" I called out. I finished up with my shirt and pulled my cap on.

"You know, it would be easier if you actually got out of bed after you wake up instead of just lying there." A voice pointed out. I smirked and glanced over my shoulder to Reks, who leaned in the doorway with his schoolbag over his shoulder, a red bandana tied around his forehead.

"Give me a break, Reks. Don't you ever feel the same way when it's a Monday morning?" I shot back as I picked up my schoolbag and walked over to the door, Reks stepping out of the way as I walked past him. He shook his head and followed me down the stairs.

"Not at all. I've always been an early riser." Reks replied. I chuckled to myself as I stepped into the kitchen and raided the pantry quickly for something to feed my lunch box.

"Hey you guys! We leaving or what?" Another voice called out. I glanced over my shoulder to see a familiar black-green-purple Chameleon pop his head over the cover of the couch, a paused PS3 game behind him. I nodded with a smirk.

_ "Chill Zack, just chill. I just gotta grab something and we'll go." _ I thought to myself as I shut the pantry and shoved my lunchbox into my bag after packing my lunch. I grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl on the bench quickly and put my bag over my shoulders again, smiling at Reks and Zackary. _ "Okay, I'm ready!" _ I thought. Reks rolled his eyes and walked over to the front door.

"Finally!" Zack exclaimed, flicking the TV off and running towards the door. I sighed happily and followed the two outside.

"Laters mom!" I called back as I shut the screen door and set off outside.

"Have a good day at school, hon'!" She called out after me.

"Oh... Urm, Reks...?" Zack murmured as I took a bite out of my apple.

"No Zack, you're not getting any lunch from me today." Reks shot back. Zack flinched.

"Awwww, cous'! Come on!" Zack cried out. I smirked as I looked away for a moment, the two arguing with each other in the background of my thoughts.

It's been a while... I said to myself as we walked up the street, and then down the hill.

I glanced to the cousins as they argued, Zack whinging like a little boy with the stern Reks. Heh, it wasn't too long ago when I first met him. I could barely believe it when you told me that you were both cousins. I thought reminiscently.

Zack had rocked up at our house one day, and you told me he was your younger cousin. I was only more excited when you told me he was staying with us while his family went away for a year. I never went to bed as early since then.

"--You're so cruel Reks! Letting me starve at school..." Zack complained. Reks scoffed.

"If I stop holding your hand when you have to make lunch, I don't think it's fair to say I'm letting you starve..." Reks shot back. Zack blinked and then sighed in resignation.

"Man....." Zack groaned. I giggled softly to myself. Like usual, Zack had woken up, taken a shower, and played videogames whilst eating breakfast instead of making his lunch. Not surprising.

"Relax Zack! I'll just buy you lunch at the canteen today." I murmured to him before taking another bite out of my apple. Zack's expression picked up and he grinned.

"Andre, you're just awesome!" He cheered. Reks shook his head disapprovingly, but said nothing as we kept walking to the bus-stop.
