#1 of Life as a Lord's Pets

Hello everyone. This is my first post on this site and I thank you ahead of time for looking at it. It's a series I've started involving me, my mate Kane Shadow Wolf, and a very good friend of ours' alternate sona SkyWing.

I have their permission to post it and hope you all enjoy this little start.

A grey wolf with darker fur then typical sat crouched and hunched over in a cage. He was in a large room full of other furs in other dog crates that were better suited to feral dogs like German shepherds than anthros. However, those that fed these caged furs didn't care. Those in the crates were those who either couldn't support themselves or were put here by families who didn't want them.

To those who walked free in the halls, they were no more than ferals; pets or slaves to be bought by the upper class for whatever they wanted. The grey wolf tried as best he could to stretch out, but hit the mesh of his crate, making a clear ring in the quiet room. "Damn it..." he growls.

The grey wolf, Fen, had been just a common traveller, but had been injured in an ambush and captured before being brought here two weeks ago. They barely fed them twice a day, usually either low-quality food or even actual feral pet food when there were a lot of them here.

"Hey, you alright?" someone said, obviously directed towards Fen.

Fen turned his head and saw another wolf like himself, though this one had completely black fur with a little red highlighting his headfur. This other wolf was over towards him, his ears perked up from the sound Fen's cage made as he stretched out.

"Yeah, I'm good. It's just there's no room in these things to stretch out without hitting one wall or another." Fen replied, electing a snort from the other wolf.

"No kidding. Hey, I don't think we've ever been formally introduced. I'm Kane." The black wolf, Kane, said.

Fen chuckled at that, trying not to laugh because of the fact he didn't know or hadn't been introduced to any of the other furs that surrounded the two wolves in their own cages. "I'm Fen. Nice to meet and talk to you. Most furs here aren't too social unfortunately, gets a bit boring."

Looking at him, Fen notices that the other wolf is roughly his age. Being 19, they were both fairly young by societal standards. Kane just laughs at what Fen's words. "Yup! It's quiet around here and nothing really hap-" he started to say, only to be interrupted from a loud noise at the front of the store.

The doors both swung open wide and a tall, dark silver canine entered. The canine sported nine elegant looking tails and looked a bit like a fox or wolf. He stood in the door way, dressed very well in the silvery clothes that denoted him as one of the upper class at least, if not a lord. As he looked around at his surroundings, an employee walked up to and greeted him with excitement that none of the caged furs there had really seen before.

"Greetings, my lord! Welcome to my humble establishment! What can I do for you or get you today?" the male said to the canid lord.

All of the pets went silent at his proclamation, surprised by the appearance of a noble, well, at least here of all places. Most of the time they would send others to get pets for them. The odd-looking lord looked around, amused.

"I'm looking for some companionship up at my castle and decided I wanted a pet or two." The lord chuckled a bit before continuing. "It can get a bit lonely at times and is frequently devoid of entertaining company."

The salesman, who was a coyote, nodded happily as he listened to the lord. "Well my lord, you've come to the right place! We can get you any kind of pet, or a slave if you wish, that you could want. Are you looking for something exotic or perhaps a little more common?" he asked the fellow canine before him.

The lord only shrugged at the question before he replied. "I'm just here to look really. I'm not particularly interested in the species, but rather, what they are like. Since I want their companionship, something that likes social interaction is where I was hoping to start."

The coyote salesman grinned at this. "Of course, my lord. We have many canines like that right over here if you'd like to see them?" The mysterious canine simply nodded at the choice of where to start.

"Then if you would follow me sir." The coyote asked, before starting to walk towards the section in question. The area contained almost every canine imaginable, from the rarely seen wolves to the common house dogs like poodles and chihuahuas.

All of them caged canines stared at the lord as he passed through and by each of their cages. Some of them were looking on frightened by him, and others looking seductively at him. The canine lord, however, simply looked at and disregarded them as they weren't what he was looking for. Both of the wolves simply stared at and studied the lord curiously.

The sales rep continued to walk through the path between the cages as he spoke up again. "We have plenty of show dog material for fashion or working dogs like shepherds for physical work. We also recently got in two wolves. We rarely have these in as they are much less common."

This last statement caused the lord to look towards the coyote curiously, as he himself was part wolf. Noticing this, as he was trained to, the coyote quickly guided the canine guest to the two in question. Both Fen and Kane, as well as the lord himself simply stared at one another for a while, the free one studying the two caged furs before him as the two looked on uncertainly, their fates in his paws.

The silence and motionlessness was broken as the lord knelt down closer to the two and reached out with his paw for the wolves to smell. Both Fen and Kane looked at each other before leaning toward the fronts of their cages and sniffing the pre-offered paw. Their tails began to wag softly as the each inhaled the lord's rick, masculine scent as his paw entered each of their cages to rub their heads softly.

"I think I will try both of these out. Wolves are indeed social creatures, which is what I'm looking for. And it would be good to have company when my duties occupy me." The lord stated.

The coyote practically drooled as he heard this. "Very fine choice Sir! If you will follow me we can discuss their prices and I can have them delivered to your castle or you can have someone pick them up if you like for no fee." he said.

The lord shook his head at the salesman as he stood back up, smiling at the caged pair before turning to follow. "I'd prefer to take them home myself. I need the air and I imagine they could use it too. Have them ready for me when I finish the paperwork." he stated, the tone offering no leeway in changing his mind or that he should be disobeyed in the latter request.

Surprised, the coyote stared for a moment, but quickly nodded at the lord. "Yes my lord, of course, if that is your wish. Please follow me." he said. The both of them left and the wolves stared after them interestedly, looking towards each other afterwards at the unexpected turn of their evening.
