A Valentine's Day Surprise

Story by Sci the cheetah on SoFurry

It was February 13 and there was no sign of anything for Valentine's Day. Alpha sighed heavily as he looked over at the hard working Sci. All he seemed to be doing lately was working. The two of them had hardly spent any time together in a while. And it seemed as if they wouldn't be doing anything special for Valentine's Day either. But perhaps it was for the best.

"What are you working on, Hun?" Alpha finally asked.

"It's just something important. I'll tell you about it later," Sci said to his mate.

Alpha sighed heavily again and decided to go to bed. It was late and he was tired. And there wasn't any point in staying up and waiting for Sci because as soon as he came to bed he would fall asleep.

About an hour later, Sci came in, kissed Alpha on the cheek and fell asleep, purring happily.

The next morning, Alpha sat up and noticed that Sci wasn't in bed anymore.

"Sci?" Alpha called out. He then noticed a small note on Sci's pillow.

Let's play a game, Hun. I am hiding somewhere special and I am leaving you a bunch of clues. I thought it would be fun to play a game today. So, let's play. Here's your first clue:

I am a box that has no hinges or a lid, but a golden treasure lies inside.

Alpha looked over the note a few times. "A box with no hinges or a lid...hmm...AN EGG!" he cried out excitedly. He was already starting to enjoy this game that Sci had planned. They lived near a farm, so that must be where the next clue was. He quickly got up and got dressed.

Alpha quickly ran downstairs and saw a plate of toast on the counter with a note beside it. He picked it up and read it:

I thought you might get excited enough to forget to eat. So I made you breakfast.

Alpha was glad that there was no one there to see him blush. Sci was right. He would have forgotten to eat had he not made breakfast for him.

After quickly gulping down his meal, Alpha went out and drove down the long street to the farm. As he pulled up, he saw the farmer, Bulldog Joe, coming down the path. Bulldog Joe got his name from his accomplishments. He was a former pro wrestler and his massive muscles were proof that he was good, even though he was a Labrador. Alpha never liked coming to the farm because he was always turned on by Joe's massive muscles, but he didn't let it stop him today as he worked to find his mate.

"Good morning, Joe," Alpha started. "Has Sci stopped by today?"

Joe smiled. "Why yes he did. He told me that he was playing a little game with you for Valentine's Day. He bought a carton of eggs for some reason. He brought them out to his car and then came back a few moments later and told me to give them to you," Joe told him. "Come on in."

Alpha smiled and excitedly followed Joe in. Joe led Alpha into the kitchen where the carton of eggs was on the table. Alpha sat down and opened the carton of eggs. There was the clue:

ABEEEG

GNRRRU

"What's with the letters?" Joe asked. Apparently, Sci hadn't told Joe all of the details of what he had planned.

"It's a clue. Sci gave me one this morning that led me here. This will tell me where to go next," Alpha told him. He then studied the letters carefully. It was obvious that he had to rearrange the letters to spell out the clue. He then noticed something written on the carton itself.

3 words

Alpha thought for a few minutes. He then began to rearrange the letters. After a while, he figured out the first two words:

AGREEN

BEGRRU

He was almost there. He knew that he could figure it out if he could just...

"I love that restaurant," Joe said suddenly.

"What restaurant?" Alpha asked.

"It's talking about A Green Burger. They have really good food there," Joe said.

"Thanks, Joe," Alpha said as he began to go out the door.

"Wait! Sci told me to tell you to bring the eggs home first," Joe said as he handed Alpha the carton

Alpha took the carton and ran out to the car. He quickly ran home and put the eggs in the fridge before going back out. By the time he got back in the car, the clock read 9:23. It took at least an hour to get on to the other side of town to get to the restaurant. Alpha sighed and began on his way to A Green Burger.

It was already 10:37 when he finally arrived. He went in and up to Dolores, the waitress who knew him and Sci.

"Good morning, Alpha. Sci was here earlier. He told me to give you this envelope. He said it was important," Dolores told him as she handed him the envelope.

Alpha smiled as he took it. He opened it up and pulled out a large sheet of paper. On the paper was a word search. It was a very big word search. There were instructions on the top of the paper:

Find all the words and then spell out the clue with the remaining letters. Don't worry. You don't have to rearrange the letters. You might want to order something while you're at it.

Alpha smiled and looked up at Dolores. "I guess I'll just have to listen to him," he said before ordering one of his favorite blue burgers. They were artificially colored with healthy food dyes.

Alpha began to do the word search, eliminating one word after another. It was about eleven when Dolores brought out his food. He began to eat as he continued to search for the words. As he finished his meal, he also finished the word search.

"Well...What does it say?" Dolores asked.

Alpha looked at the remaining letters and began to write them down one by one. Finally, he was able to see the message:

They always say that it is best to never live in the past, but for now, let's go back to where it all began.

Alpha thought for a moment. He then smiled as he remembered where it all started for him and Sci. "Thanks for the meal, Dolores. How much do I owe you?" Alpha asked.

"You don't owe me anything. Sci already took care of it," Dolores said.

Alpha giggled happily before thanking her and going off to his and Sci's old high school. The last bell was just ringing as he pulled up and parked. He then headed to the gym.

"Alpha?" a familiar voice said. Alpha spun around to see his old coach, Coach Bennesen. "First Sci, and now you...Of course, he did say that you might show up. I didn't believe him...anyways, he told me that if you do show up to tell you, '143 Blue Stream Drive,'" Coach Bennesen told him.

Alpha sat down and thought about it for a bit. Bennesen went back to work filling some papers. Alpha thought about the clue long and hard for an hour and a half.

"It's a very nice place to stay," Coach Bennesen said to Alpha from the office door.

"What are you talking about?" Alpha asked his former coach.

"The hotel at the address Sci gave you. I'm suspecting that he has rented a room there for the two of you two stay in tonight. You two were the cutest couple I have ever seen...Besides me and my husband, of course," the tiger said to Alpha.

"How do you know that?" Alpha asked.

"I know because I looked it up online. The Odyssey Hotel. It's beautiful. I'm printing out a map now that leads there," Coach Bennesen said before going over to the printer. He then handed Alpha a sheet of paper from Google Maps.

Alpha smiled and ran out of the gym after thanking Bennesen for his help. It was about 8 o'clock when Alpha finally arrived at the hotel. After the valet took his car, Alpha went up to the front desk.

"You're finally here. A guy came here earlier and told me that you would be coming. He even showed me a picture of you so that I would know it was you. He told me to give you a key to his room. He's in room 2010. It's one of the Honeymoon suites," the guy at the front desk told him. He then handed Alpha a room key and gave him a wink. "Don't have too much fun."

Alpha giggled and headed up to the twentieth floor. He then headed down the hall to room 2010. He took a deep breath before opening the door. Inside were some scented candles and a home cooked meal at a table for two, which was romantically set up.

Alpha took a few steps in when he felt a pair of arms hug him from behind.

"Did you have fun?" Sci asked him.

"I had a lot of fun. I'm really glad you did all this for me," Alpha said as he turned around to face his mate.

"I'm glad you had fun. And this was for both of us," Sci said as he kissed the folf.

The rest of the night was just perfect. Alpha and Sci sat down and had a romantic dinner where Sci confessed that he had been busy preparing the entire day for the past few weeks. After dinner, Sci brought Alpha into the bedroom which had rose petals place all over the room and bed to give the room a romantic feel to it. The two stayed in the hotel through the entire weekend before going home Sunday afternoon. It was the best time they had had together.
