#3 of The Other Dragon World

The Laboratory Attack

Seraphor again woke up after some hours sleeping. The sky hadn't darkened yet since the first time he went here. Near him was Spyro, playing some marbles.

"Oh, after two hours, you're awake!" said Spyro in a tone resembling somebody very impatient. "I almost lost my lunch because of you."

"W...what happened to you?"

"Nothing. It's almost 12, so I need to get something to fill up. Hey, I've given you some steak. It's good. I've burned it myself. Try it."

The silver red then looked at the meat. It was like how he preferred the fresh meat he got from hunting, properly burned by fire. Feeling exhausted on the fight and of course very hungry, he suddenly jumped toward the meat and ate it in a relatively short time. This made Spyro gaped, and said, "Whoa, man, slow down. The world doesn't end sooner or later so take your time eating this steak. Your name is Seraphor, right?"

Seraphor, with his mouth full of meat, could only nod. Then Sparx flew in and when he saw the silver red was up (and eating the meat like an animal), he whispered something to Spyro that Seraphor couldn't hear despite of his sharp ears (he had ear leaves and very unique between his friends). After a while, Spyro turned his first-of-the-kind amethyst slit eyes Seraphor had ever seen for the first time to meet Seraphor's own mystic blue eyes.

"Oh, uh, I...guess you need some walk too. Those wounds are closing fast enough. I never saw those kinds of wounds in real life, and it's really cool, man! What have you gone into taking those wounds?"

"Believe me, you won't be saying those if you had ever got..."

"Oh, I've got the same thing many years ago...although, not to that extent."

"Okay, now I've cleared my thought, I've something to tell you about. Your name is Spyro, right? There's a destroyed letter outside and...it's hard to read."

"A letter?"

"Oh, yeah!" exclaimed Sparx suddenly. "Spyro, this fella hit Professor's bird when he crashed and I wanted to tell you! I guess you forgot."

"Motherfuck..."

"What are you saying?"

"Never mind that. I hate having to fly to Avalar from here. We don't have any portals operating now, the ship captain is currently in Capital, and I really don't like to fly that much."

"Why? You can fly, right? Then what is the purpose of those wings?"

"I mainly use it to glide, Sparx!"

"Flame can fly with it."

"That's because he had good flying muscle. I had a bad one, so why should I bother him? In fact, we're rivals in video games and races!"

"Can you two just stop already?! If you don't want to go, then fine, I'll take you..."

"With that ripped wings of yours? Chill out, you can't even fly anymore."

"Is this Avalar place is an island separated by a sea?"

"Yeah?"

"I've got a trick to go there."

They helped Seraphor to get out to the beach. Because it was in the middle of the day, the heat was killing hot and stinging to the dragons, and that was also the reason why there were no dragons on the beachfront. Seraphor directed Spyro to the place he stopped, the ruined boulder and some bits of metallic parts.

"There, I left the traced pieces here. I can't read some parts since it's not draconic language, but I've got the hang of some words."

"Dude, what's 'draconic language'? This is not a game, okay? You can't shout those shit in real life. If it does, we'll be thrown out like being pushed by the Force by Obi-wan or..." "Can you stop that 'Star Wars' shit?" interrupted Spyro when Sparx wanted to talk more.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, Spyro."

Spyro tried in vain to read the bad writings, until he put up his head and said, "So, then, maybe you're correct. He wanted me to come there at any times, and not necessarily today."

"Oh, but, I guess it's better if we done it now, right? I'll take you to the..."

"With those wings? Sorry, man, but you need to rest a bit. Your body is...uh, just bigger from me a little, so it won't be...hey, don't ignore me!"

Seraphor infuriated Spyro more by not hearing him and giving a smile, but of course doing so could end up bad for the purple dragon since now he was like a celebrity, being seen as a hero of Dragon Realm after many times saving the lives of the dragons living at the almost isolated island.

And then, Spyro saw the thing Seraphor did like a miracle. While he walked, he made ice on the sea. The ice platform made a neat pathway every time Seraphor walked, making him walked over water over the not-very-clear ice pathway.

"Hey, c'mon. Where's this Avalar?"

"Uh...it's up south. I'll be the guide, man. You can't find way at the sea," said Spyro after getting himself back together. "The wind can change your sense of direction. Without a compass, you can't risk the journey."

"Compass is human's apparatus. Where did you get that?"

"Far away from here. C'mon, man."

And so, while they were walking, Spyro could now see the fish at the middle of the tropical sea clearly while he was even on one of his worst enemies, the deep water (Spyro couldn't swim). He could also sense the wind, being taught by the sailor how to predict wind changes at the sea. Moreover, he could wish he could use the ice power manifested by him from his ancestors until this extend.

"Spyro, can I ask you something?"

"Something?"

"You can't swim?"

This made Spyro gasped and he suddenly lost his balance and fell to the side, right to the water. Because of this he couldn't even swim and tried to grasp for the ice platform. Luckily, it didn't melt.

"W...why did you suddenly ask that, you fuck..."

"Don't get that embarrassed. You'll be dead if I melt that ice platform. Or, should I do it to you..."

"Stop!!! Please, okay, okay! I can't swim! You happy?"

"That's why my suspicion is too good to be true, goddamn it," murmured Seraphor, then he said, "First of all, although I know you have a fault to your wings so you couldn't fly, that doesn't mean you can't cross the water by your own. You didn't find any option to swim, and if I were you, I would swim. Why?"

"Why? Why do you..."

"Do you realize how close it is from that island to the island in front of us, huh?! The water is very calm and no waves, so that's mean the sea floor wasn't all that deep. Then...I'm like an idiot for trusting you, thinking the island is far."

When Spyro saw it, he gasped. The Dragon Realm was barely seen, but still visible from the point they were standing. Avalar was right in front of them with its distinctive volcano which had Professor's lab inside. It was only a couple of walks and of course, Seraphor was right. The sea was shallow enough and Spyro was able to hold his breath long enough underwater. Of course, if he didn't want to get drowned he needed to avoid swimming pools, or else.

"Also, I never even believe the ship that was as big as a fully matured dragon can cross this shallow water."

"No, that's a galleon class, you goddamn idiot! The ship is a boat!"

"Okay, okay, I understand. Well, well, this place is hot."

"Of course it's hot! This is a volcano island! We've got red hot lava underneath us flowing relentlessly to that summit up there," replied Spyro in an impatient tone. "Unfortunately, that's the place we'll be going!"

"Relax, Spyro, relax." He then turned to the dragonfly. "Hey, is he always like this?"

"Not really, dude. You force him like that. He really doesn't like deep waters, you know."

"Sparx!!"

"And hot-headed."

"Maybe it's because of this island's heat. There are no plants around here," said Seraphor secretly using his earth power to sense any trace of soil. "I can't even see any humid soil other than the soaked sand."

"It's the island's north part," said Spyro, calmed. "There are some civilizations down under where some cheetahs live. That's the reason I use a boat, dumb ass."

"Oh, so there are some lives, after all," said Seraphor. "Then, how are we supposed to go up to the summit?"

"There's a stair, but we need to go to 'Cooking Ponds' to go to the stairs. I don't mind the heat, but how about an ice dragon like you?"

"I can take care of myself."

The 'Cooking Ponds' was a place with some ponds full of lava bubbling. The part was the hottest part in the whole island, with some bad stepping could roast a dragon despite being a fire dragon. The only known dragon race Seraphor knew could live around this vicinity was lava dragon, but they were just myth and most said they couldn't live on earth. Angelus seemed fit to live around the place. She would have a hot spring bath...without her rider, of course.

The stairs Spyro meant were some bones being stacked at each other resembling stairs. The bones were very hard, even the heat didn't make it crack or weakening it. Somehow it came from an ancient creature died and the bones were made into stairs by the Professor or whatever it was.

When they reached the top of the volcano, the intense heat made Seraphor wanted to cover himself in ice, but he knew covering himself in ice couldn't help the heat. Spyro also got the problem to it and of course since reptiles couldn't sweat, it was a burden to both of them and Sparx (since he was a dragonfly, the heat normally could kill him. The fairy shield protected him). When Spyro tried to knock the door, he realized it was made of metal and it was very hot, making him winced. Spyro then shot the door with ice and he could freely knock it with his tail. This made Seraphor a little surprised.

"Well, I don't know you're a hybrid-type," said Seraphor.

"What's that?"

"Never mind my words. You won't understand anyway."

There was a voice, definitely and old frail one. "Who's out there?"

"It's me, Spyro."

There was another voice, this time more monotone and not natural. "Voice recognition 100% match. Access granted. Welcome, Spyro."

The next moment Seraphor saw was the door opened and a sudden blast of cold air hit him, rejuvenating him and making his mind fresh from the heat. Spyro went inside first and Seraphor followed him a moment before the door closed. The inside, unlike the surrounding scenery, was metallic, and of course, the place had chilling air, different from the hot air outside. They were like inside an ice shelter, and surrounded by weird machines, making Seraphor became aware. Only when Spyro asked him to stay calm and see the end of the room the silver red stopped being aware and, in turn, became surprised.

The one greeted them wasn't a human or even a dragon, but a small rodent. A mole, to be exact. The mole was somehow old, but only some of its fur was white, the rest stayed dark brown as a mole should be. He had bad eyesight so he used the spectacles like some humans having short-sight problems (apparently, no dragons had those kinds of problem), and of course, he was wearing something like a white coat, and since he was bigger than most moles Seraphor had ever seen or hunted, the coat was human-sized.

"Oh, so you heed my call, Spyro," said the mole. "What with this silver fella?"

"Just a visitor. His name is Seraphor."

"Seraphor, eh? Not a bad name, if you tell me? Say, where do you come from? Dragon Realm? Capital?"

"No, uh, I came from a place far I forgot where," replied Seraphor. "The place seems gloomy."

"Gloomy? Oh, my bad. I'm not good under the sun so uh...I don't put much lighting in here. Anyway, Spyro, you want to have a drink? It's hot out there huh? Volcanic activity getting worse these days. You two and Sparx are lucky to be able to walk near the lava. It's 200 degrees!"

"In what?" asked Spyro.

"Celsius, of course. If it's Fahrenheit it's still warm. I'm glad you're very specific, Spyro. Looks like the simple Physics knowledge you got help you."

"Yeah...uh...huh...," replied Spyro in a tone as if he was not sure.

"But then, I want to show you something. A nice thing to increase your power, especially, your magic..."

"Magic? But, I got a hang on that now."

"I mean your element magic, Spyro. The thing is a natural kind of magic. Here, let me..."

"Something's is coming! Damn, it's a dragon!"

Right when Seraphor said that, there was a blast from the rooftop and they barely had time to find any cover. Suddenly, when some automatic weird weapons fired it, they bounced and instead hit them back, destroying them. When the smoke were gone, there was a dark blue dragon having yellow menacing eyes and fin-like ears seen in many basilisk lizards. He also was two legged, standing upright with two legs without even having any problem.

"Now, maggots, give me the orb or I'll blast this place apart!!" he said it in a menacing tone.

"What orb? You think I can let you get away after crashing into someone's lab, you fucking assh..."

"Silence!! No maggots can make me scared, including you, purple whelp! You're just a trash!"

"Trash?! I'll show you who's trash you..."

"You dare challenge me?! ME?!"

Spyro could feel his couldn't move because of a powerful magical force that held him at bay. Somehow this new threat was stronger than his previous threat, and just like most threats, they were thinking as if they could make world domination like most villains in movies.

Seraphor also could feel that his body was stopped by the powerful force from the magic, but he again secretly used electricity to enhance his muscles to force himself to break the magic since he was also a dragon. He then, in vain, managed to get close enough to the mysterious dragon and stood with his back legs, grabbing him and said, "Can you just shut up with that bad monologue and fight your own size? Let me tell you one thing, shithead. I'm not gonna let you get out from here...intact."

"Y...you dare to challenge..."

"I said shut up with the same challenge monologue! I challenge you! Yeah, it's obvious enough! C'mon and fight, you weak!"

The dark blue dragon was clearly enraged, being challenged by a weird silver red quad seemingly able to break his spell. In rage, he shot a big fire that engulfed Seraphor, but when the fire was gone, he said, "Heh, like I said, you're so weak! Let me introduce you to my ice!"

While they both fight, Professor exclaimed, "Spyro, you must save the orb!"

"I wanted to ask, what orb?!!"

"The orb of natural phenomenon! It's the powerful experimental biological magical ball with condensed natural power I gathered from the volcano! The power itself is equal to a 800 km/h wind and 200 degrees Celsius of heat! It's also as powerful as a supersonic wave travelling at the air and of course the fixed..."

"Can you stop talking like that and used English?!"

"I'm using English!"

"Then tell me the short version of your fucking experiment!"

"Okay, then...if we..."

Suddenly the body of the dark blue dragon almost hit them and gone through a room with a glowing light blue orb at the middle of a pedestal with glass cover. Seraphor was clearly dominating him, and of course each time the dragon wanted to attack, the silver red jumped to him and clawed him, saying, "You think you're powerful now, you goddamn asshole?! Huh, say something, prick!"

"Oh yeah? Then feel the might of my power!"

A sudden blast of air from his wing threw the smaller silver red to a wall, but his wings reduced the impact and in turn propelled him with a slight movement (despite it couldn't be folded and of course it was reduced into bones, the wings were still flexible). At the same time, he made an impact to the floor, producing a clean ice wave that made his adversary slipped and using his own ability to walk over his own ice, he ran toward his enemy and jumped over him and fell over the dark blue using the speed of his fall and with his foreleg's claw opened for the kill. Unfortunately, his claws were also a fault, being cut and not sharp despite grown again, so it wasn't hurt and not able to pierce the dragon's chest scales through his heart.

"Is that your best shot?" he said. "It's not even as sharp as..."

The dark blue became shocked when he realized the dragon didn't try to cut his heart, but trying to freeze him. The ice below the dark blue dragon helped Seraphor's ice spread to freeze the dragon rapidly. He tried to struggle in vain, but the ice was abnormally fast spreading around him.

"You talk too much," said the silver red. "You're not as powerful as you talk."

At last, the dark blue became as solid as rock, became an ice dragon statue that was in an awkward position being held under a smaller, but many times more powerful, small silver red dragon.

"Damn it, I hate my claws," thought Seraphor. "Luckily, Yort told me I could flow the ice magic on all part of my body. He's better, I guess."

"Seraphor, Seraphor!' said a voice. "Are you alright?"

That was Professor's voice. At first Seraphor thought the mole didn't make it because of their clash that wrecked almost half of the volcano laboratory (and making the air hot again because they also wrecked the air conditioner), but he was relieved and worried because he got a strained voice.

"I'm okay, but, where's Spyro?"

"That's the problem I want to discuss. You see, when you two broke into the lab holding the orb, a part of the lab was broken and the pedestal with the orb swayed very dangerously. The thing could destroy all of us in a matter of seconds if it ever got a big impact. Spyro then made haste and..."

"And what?"

"He ate it...literally."
