1030 A.D. Villager's Journal

The illustrious noon sky was brilliantly lit by our mother sun, and not a single cloud was spotted. Twas perfect conditions to grow crops and raise cattle, all while the children were at play. My wife was caring to the house and preparing for the annual charity later this evening. Come four o'clock I put the horses away and headed inside the house, my children begging for a story. So I grabbed the book of dragons this peddler sold me and sat down. Then I began reading starting with colored dragons, then to elemental dragons, and finishing with extinct dragons. As I was closing the book a page fell out that I've never seen before, on it was "unknown dragon" on the page was a description reading: black scales with purple stripes, a short black mane, horns on its head, purple eyes, and thin long wings. I put the book up and sat down at the table pondering the page as my wife brought the food and fed the kids. I ate shortly after then packed up the bags of grain and corn into the carriage, and we headed to the town for the charity. The ride was long and quiet listening to the world around us, before we reached the town. Everything was lively, people and children running around, vendors selling goods, games, and music. I went and set up giving the kids each five shillings and sending them on their way. The night was long and the market was closing I made nearly a hundred shillings and gave it to the charity. On my walk back I saw my kids talking to a strange boy, he had short black hair and black clothes with a hint of purple. I thought it rather peculiar until he looked at me, his eyes slit and with purple coloration. I screamed and in that second a dragon was standing in front of me. The features matching the description that I read on the page earlier, the dragon threw me and my kids to the side as his white flames engulfed the market, my kids grabbing my hand and leading me to a carriage. They said "lets go father, he isn't going to harm us in exchange for a loyal and trustworthy servant." At that note we were already down the road and I asked which one he asked for of my two boys. The youngest one pointed at himself and I cried all the way home. Twas ten at night when we arrived and I could only think about my boys, and their dreaded fate. Come midnight a knock on my door was heard so I answered it and the boy from earlier was standing there. I asked him where his demon dragon was but all he did was laugh and look at me, then replied "there is no dragon that walks with me, but the dragon you seek stands before you." I was speechless, and just looked at him until he broke the silence, he said "so where is the boy?" The tears started to fall as I dropped to my knees and my youngest boy walked to the door and embraced the dragon, then they disappeared and weren't seen ever more.
