CP. 1: The cure, the curse, and the wolf

Well I guess I should start with my hometown of Sunnyside in a galaxy far, far away. I'm kidding of course its right here on earth in the newly formed state of Extra. The world's come a long way since the energy war of 2932. In fact the crisis was stopped due to my grandfather, Ellis Hawthorne, who invented Atomite the only forever lasting energy source that causes less pollution than the average car. Its currently 3012 in the little town of Sunnyside and our lives go on as usual, people are driving to work in their "Hover 218's" aptly named after the discovery of antigravity particles.

I on the other hand had to attend school which was, as it usually is, boring. Right now I was science learning and re-learning things Ellis 'Thorne had taught me.

"We'll be talking about Ellis Hawthorne's energy discoveries, remember this will be on the test next week and will also tie into your history classes." Mr. X wasn't a bad teacher but he was stricter than most of the other ones. "Skye, would you like to explain your grandfather's theories and discoveries?" he asks putting the spotlight on me once again. It almost seems like he does it due to my granddad or due to the fact I was "different".

Either way I stood up my tail wagging, yes I did say tail, and cleared my throat before stating clearly for at least the third time the month, "Dr. Hawthorne Sr. developed Atomite after the energy war of 2047 ultimately ending it. The Atomite particle is made up out of three different substances the most prominent being Exclantorium. After the discovery of Atomite by Dr. Hawthorne Sr. a new miracle cure was created by Dr. Hawthorne Jr., my father." I say in a somewhat monotone voice.

"Very good Skylar, now please explain the 'miracle cure' to the class if you will." He stated with a mocking tone, I already knew he didn't like what I was or the fact the cure was created. I looked at him with more boredom hoping that he'd not make me state my father's discoveries. However after a minute I decided that it'd be best if I just got it over with.

"I'd be happy to Mr. X. My father created the cure using Atomite and a few secret substances which I'd like to keep it that way if you don't mind sir. The cure was developed in 2997 by Dr. James Hawthorne who at the time had worked with my grandfather. The cure was for everything from a headache to cancer, it was the miracle cure. However as you can see," I then gestured to myself, which was currently and forever like a dog mixed with a human. Muzzle and tail included. "The cure was a cure but it altered the double helix of DNA and altered the appearance of whoever took it. I was lucky enough to have survived the disease of '09 which without my father's discovery would have had a 79% lethality rate and a 23% infection rate. Do you know how many people would have died?" A ask after ending the small beginnings of a rant.

"I do not, how many people would have died if they weren't turned into those...things?" he says calmly which sets in the rant I tried to end

"Almost 5 billion people X, 5 billion people mostly children and the elderly. And all you can think of is the side effect of living past the gruesome plague that made the skin melt away until bone was visible. Instead of 5 billion only 3 million died, that's a 99.994% save rate. Instead of death the other projected 78.994% got life. I really hope you can see the fact that the side effect isn't important!" I say before walking out of the class room, reaching the door just as the bell rings for lunch. Yup just an average day for a human stuck in an animal's body. Thanks to my family's past people have both been saved and killed, and for no other reason than "they're different so they must not be good". I'm hoping to change it, one person at a time.
