Chapter 11 of Orion and the Fox

Comments are Always Welcomed.

In the three months since my father's unfortunate visit things have been rather quiet. During that time I've regained my full strength and my wounds have healed nicely. Nubai and I have been spending a lot of time training and talking about our clan. She's been a well spring of knowledge about our clan and its leader. One day she hopes to introduce me to him after everything is settled between our worlds.

When I'm not training or studying I'm spending all my free time with Kyuri and Renka. With things the way they've been lately I felt like I was neglecting them. Granted they understood but, I still felt obligated to make it up to them anyway. A romantic walk in the woods behind my home and dinner was just the thing. They loved it being able to explore the entire property without being seen in their true forms.

I tried to invite Nubai but, she declined stating she had other things to do. Jaxal didn't join us either though he stayed close by just in case things happened. He could be there in a flash to help defuse the situation in the best way possible. Though one thing I did start noticing was my mother and Jaxal getting chummy. So I kept out of their way since my mother hasn't shown interest in another man.

After filling for divorce all those years ago from my so-called bastard of a father. It was good to see her finally opening up and trying to bond with someone better for her. Despite Jaxal saying he wasn't going to fall in love with another woman. Has proven to be quite the "I told you so" moment but, I'm minding my tongue. Since I've got a ton of respect for the man and I never want to see him angry.

So I'm just going to allow things to progress and blossom all on their own. "Hey, Orion gotta minute?" Jaxal asked causing me to look up from my journal. "Sure, what's wrong you seem bothered by something?" I replied as he sat down next to me. He took a deep breath then leaned forward where he sat before speaking. Judging from his body language something was really eating away at him.

"I'm sure you've noticed your mother and I are spending a lot of time together. After the events with your father I can see there's a lot more to her than I first noticed. I guess what I'm trying to say is despite my vow of celibacy and solitude, I'm falling for your mother." He informed. At this point I couldn't bring myself to say it out loud. "Jaxal the only advice I can give you is follow your heart." I started saying.

"This might be a sign from above that it's time for you to live for yourself now. I know my adoptive mother would want you to be happy and living a life you deserve. If that means forging a relationship with my now single birth mother than go ahead. Just know this if you break her heart, make no mistake I will break you in half." I stated calmly. Jaxal blinked a few times before breaking out in a broad smile.

"Orion, I would expect nothing less of you, especially concerning her well being. Since you're a lot stronger than me I know you can make very good on your promise." He replied looking over his shoulder at me. "Look, I know it's been a while for you but, trust me my mother is a good soul. From what I've seen over these last few weeks you two are nice fit. So I won't get in the way or offer my input." I pointed out.

He smiled, placed his hand on my shoulder then got up and exited the room. I finished logging things into my journal before going to find where Nubai was haunting. Sure enough she wasn't too far away from my room she was staring out one of the large bay windows. "Penny for your thoughts?" I asked as her ears twitched. She turned fully around then walked slowly towards me with a curious expression.

"Two things, what is a penny and why do I need it for my thoughts? Second is there something you want, need or perhaps desire?" She retorted with a smile. "A penny for your thoughts is a human expression to help peer into what's got someone thinking so hard. So mind sharing with me what's got you puzzled?" I informed. Once she wrapped her mind around the meaning of my expression she was happy to share.

"Orion you are familiar with opposites right?" She asked. "Yeah, more than I care to admit but, please continue, Nubai." I replied. "It was something an elder told me when I was little. He said that for every shard of light, there's always an equal shard of dark. You've confirmed that your spirit is a direct reflection of light. What has me concern as to who your opposite might turn out to be." She pointed out.

What she told me made a lot of sense and even had me wondering that very thing. "You raise a very strong point Nubai. So what you're saying a storm between two keys. Will result in our two worlds going to war with each other should we meet. The problem is how will we actually know who my opposite is, if we do cross paths." I said leaning against a wall. Nubai stood there watching me think things over thoroughly.

After a while I gave up and walked closer to her then wrapped my arms around her. She leaned right into my arms while her body remained somewhat tense. Though she didn't stay that way for long since I played a little dirty. I gingerly scratched along the base of her tails then up to the middle of her back. A soft croon began vibrating in her throat as her body relaxed the more I did it.

"You know you're not playing fair, Orion." She mumbled resting her head on my shoulder. "Like you're in a position to be complaining since you're enjoying this." I replied with a smile. While her seven tails wagged happily behind her the more I scratched her back. "Nope, I don't wanna either." She remarked. I giggled a little as her arms warmly wrapped around my waist and held me tight.

"Well, I'm glad to see you spending equal time with all three of your future wives." My mother said killing the mood. Nubai slowly pulled away from me and excused herself then walked out of the room. My mother grabbed her wrist before she could get very far. "Nubai, hun there's no shame showing affection to someone you care about. Especially in front of other people all it means is that you care about him." My mother pointed out as Nubai turned to face her.

"You both have to understand I'm not one to show my true self in the presence of others. I have to keep that side of me hidden so no one gets the wrong impression. Alice, have you ever had to bottle up your emotions and personality to lead the world's finest warriors. Not exactly an easy task to accomplish it takes time and patience." Nubai informed. My mother didn't let her go but, she did pull Nubai back inside.

She brought her back over to where I was standing and placed her hand back in mine. "Nubai, I've had to hold back a lot of things in my life that most folks wouldn't stand for. Being married to his father wasn't exactly a walk down memory lane. When Orion turned five I had enough and filed for divorce. I just couldn't take it anymore the secrets, lies and silence it all had to stop." Mother stated.

"Luckily, his father and my father were colleagues and close friends so they were in my corner. When my attorney handed him the summons to court for our divorce. That stirred up a hornet's nest with the rest of his assorted family. Especially on his rich mother's side of the family they were irate at the fact I was divorcing him." Mother informed. "Here's the kicker they wouldn't fight it if she surrendered custody of me over to them." I added sourly.

Before we could continue our little insight to our family's not so pleasant past. While someone was pounding heavily on the front door and shouting at the top of their lungs. "Speak of the bloody devil he's back mother, let me handle this. Nubai you might want to shift into your human cloak before leaving this room." I informed storming off towards the front door to greet our guest.

Once there all I could hear was him shouting for someone to open the door. I opened the inner door leaving the screen door alone as he froze in fear when he saw me. "Is there something wrong, Father?" I asked. "Where's your mother I want her not you boy." He replied lowering his voice. "How's the wrist?" I wondered making him flinch. "Is she here or not?" He retorted with an ice cold tone.

"Hmm, that's none of your business so leave." I stated as I closed the door. The second the door closed and my back turned away from the door my fighting instincts kicked in. *BLAM, BLAM, BLAM!* As gunfire rang out luckily I already hit the ground before he opened fire. A split second later he kicked the door in and he entered the room. Gun drawn and clearly at the ready to deal with anymore problems.

Little did he know I was prepared to handle him and this time I wasn't holding back. Slipping silently up behind him snatching the large caliber gun away without alerting him. Spinning around on my left heel and with my elbow I slammed it right into his neck. Though not hard enough to kill him but, enough to knock him out cold. Also dropping him to the floor like a two hundred pound lead brick.

As I held the gun in my hand I ejected the magazine and the round in the chamber. Before dropping it onto the floor by then the entire house convened in the entryway. "Are you alright, Orion I heard gunfire and feared the worst?" Mother asked rushing up to me. "I'm fine mother though he's not feeling too good right now." I stated kicking my father onto his back a moment later.

"Get my grandmother on the phone, before you do anything else this stops now." I ordered catching my mother completely off guard. She went to argue but, instead did as I asked. Walking over to the nearest phone, picked it up and dialed the number. When she answered my mother handed me the phone. "Bruce, has your ex-wife been silenced and my grandson unharmed?" She asked.

"As a matter of fact he's taking a rather nice nap grandmother and my mother is just fine. Oh, before I hang up you'll be seeing me shortly with him in tow." I replied hanging up. "Orion what are you doing?" Mother asked. "Grandma sent him to perminently silence you and to bring me to her unharmed. Jaxal get ready and tie this sack of flesh up, we're taking a trip to visit the rest of my family." I instructed calmly.

"That witch still hasn't given up on taking you away from me. So she just decides to have me killed and take you by force. Why doesn't that really surprise me that woman would do anything to get her way. Orion, Jaxal don't anything stupid just get in and get out. Knowing her she's got a back up plan in place should he fail." Mother pointed out. When the girls entered the room I immediately put them to work.

"Nubai you, Renka and the other guardians patrol the grounds for any intruders. Anyone you think shouldn't be here please deal with them discretely but, don't kill them." I stated. They all nodded and went to do as I asked of them as Jaxal and I left. Jumping into my father's car we headed off to meet with my so-called grandmother. Though Jaxal seemed rather concerned since I was very quiet the whole trip there.

As we pulled up to the main gates the guards let us pass without any trouble. When we pulled up at the front door my grandmother wasn't waiting outside for us. Sadly that didn't surprise me any as Jaxal and I exited the car. "Leave, him in the car no sense bringing dead weight along just watch my back." I instructed as Jaxal left him in the car. I walked up the long staircase towards the front door.

The doors opened automatic I looked up and saw the motion sensor sitting on top of the doorway. Walking in several armed guards filled the entryway almost like clock work. "Right, this way Orion your friend can remain here, mistress is waiting for you." A guard said. "Jaxal, let's go ignore them." I replied as we kept walking. Three of the lead guards moved towards us but, stopped halfway.

"Wise idea gentlemen I'd rather not have to harm anybody unwillingly." Jaxal stated as we walked up the staircase. We took a left at the top, then moved towards the study at the end of the hallway. This time I didn't bother with formalities as I kicked the door off the hinges. Causing everyone on the other side of the door to duck for cover. My grandmother was the only one to remain where she sat totally unphased.

"So good of you to come Orion where's your father?" She asked with a neutral tone. "He's alive if you must know but, current sleeping like an infant. Now cut the crap and tell me why you want me so bad?" I said getting straight to the point. Jaxal kept his head on a swivel making sure nobody tried anything funny. Naturally she smiled then leaned forward in her chair before speaking.

"I want you to take over the family business when I die, since your father disgraced himself. So you're all I have left and before you decline or say anything you don't have a choice. When you turn twenty-one you will assume control over the family company." She informed. I gave her a look then walked away without saying a word. That certainly egged a strong and predicted reaction from her.

She slammed both her hands onto the desk then stood up from her chair. "You dare walk away from me, you have some nerve. I'm partly responsible for you coming into this world. Therefore I own you boy now get back in here this instant." She snapped as I kept walking away. "Madam, I do believe he doesn't give a royal @#$*. So you have yourself a nice evening." Jaxal replied turning to face her.

When Jaxal followed after me she demanded her guards to keep either of us from leaving. Before the guards could do anything Jaxal and I knocked them all out. "Jaxal wait outside I'll just be a moment and please keep anyone from entering." I said going back upstairs. By the time I reached the top of the staircase she was already approaching me. With a mere flex of my arms I released a small burst of energy.

This caused the entire building to shake violently while everything unsecured fell onto the floor. My grandmother dropped to the floor and covered herself until the shaking stopped. "Get, up!" I barked. She flinched as my voice boomed as the hallway shook some more. "Please, don't hurt just tell me what you want." She asked not moving an inch. I wanted for her to lift her head up to look right into my eyes.

"All I want from you is to leave me, my mother and anyone I know alone forever. If you don't comply make no mistake I won't show as much restraint as I have today." I said walking away. I didn't bother to look back at her as I left the building with Jaxal. It didn't take us long to return back home where my mom was waiting nervously. As we jogged up the long driveway, she tried to meet us halfway.

Meanwhile back at my grandmother's home something new was happening. That would go unknown for quite some time as my grandmother recovered from my visit. "That little bastard he's got some nerve I'll get him back for this." She scowled swirling a glass of scotch. "If you want payback bad enough than allow me to lend a powerful hand." A male replied walking into the light.

Nora looked upon a black furred male kitsune with five tails and various battle scars across his body. "What do you have to offer me that will ensure my revenge on Orion and his mother?" She asked smiling evilly. "Let's just say I want revenge just as strongly as you do right now. As for what I have to offer is my loyalty and all the powers I possess. My name is Stark madam so do we have a deal?" He wondered with a smirk.

To be continued.
