Enjoy some SFW romance! :D

It was a bitter cold winter evening, sometime around the end of January. Snow covered everything, namely trees, houses, rocks, river benches and much more, all merging together to make the landscape resemble that of a postcard. The sun had long before sunk below the line of the horizon, and as such, the night covered the place for quite a while now. It was a heavily clouded night, as the snow blanket was not the product of a past event, but a currently occurring one. The fattest, most plumped flakes that could be spotted were about the size of a pea, while the meekest ones barely surpassed the size of a speck of dust.

Overall, the night was very calm and easy-going. The snow fell incredulously slow, the clocks almost seemed to tick slower than usual, and even the activities being practiced under the dark skies were being executed in a more laid-back fashion. This showed itself as a true wonder of leisure and relaxation.

A mountain stood tall and proud, having moderately steep declination and a highly-elevated peak. It was covered in snow, square inch by square inch, and halfway through itself, a layer of clouds sliced through it, splitting the mountain into two. In spite of its looks, this heap of earth and stone was, more specifically and correctly, a volcano. Still, in a log cabin in the peak, a family lived, made up by about 3 family members.

Firstly, Kyala, an eastern dragoness, lived as the single child of a loving couple. Her scales were colored an enchanting silver. A streak made entirely of fur trekked all the way from the top of her head, traversing her spine and stopping about 9/10 through the length of her body. This mane was thicker around her head than on the rest of her body. Although seemingly white, all her claws, as well as the furred streak, were tinted with a slight pink tone. Her eyes were sky-blue and she wore a necklace with a diamond on it.

The mother, Tarenas, a feral aquadrake, sported dark-blue scales, fins on her cheeks and tail and a furred mane, deep green in color, distributed much in the same way as Kyala's mane was. Her claws, although, were black as obsidian, and sharp as steel, as well as quick and, when necessary, lethal. Her eyes were deep brown. On one of her front fingers, she wore a ring with a diamond on it.

And last but not least, her father, Chrono, an eastern dragon, possessed scales in silver lighter than that of his daughter, along with a furred beard descending from his chin, being plump and dense, rather than long and thin. His claws were sharp and straight, and purely white in color. His eyes were blue-green and slit. He wore a ring made fully of sapphire, a displayer of his union with Merya.

Kyala, Tarenas and Chrono were sitting inside their house, a cozy environment to them. They sat around the fireplace, where they heated themselves. They were apparently involved in lively chatting, laughing and playing. It was but the usual winter night for this family, and all in an effort to both remain a strongly united family and to forget the biting cold. The latter although was only really the case for Kyala's parents, since Kyala herself seemed to thoroughly enjoy cold climates.

"Well, Kyala, it's about time to go to bed, no?" her mother asked.

"Yes, it might be. I'll go on. Goodnight mom! 'Night dad!" she happily dismissed herself from the room and directed herself to a door to the right of the room where they had been. She opened it slowly to reveal a quite complete room with a bed, a desk and little more, all the while still being slightly superior to other houses in similar environments. The moon had already peaked by then, a sign that night was in its plainest. Kyala laid her head down on the pillow, her clothing scarce aside from the usual underwear. She chose not to have any covers on top of her, due to her apparent affinity with atmospheric cold.

Moments, or even instants after her head crashed on the pillow with the weight of a feather, her eyes sealed shut, her head drifted away, as if carried by an angelic boat, into a world of dreams. A light breeze blew by her every once in a while, and her body seemed to shrug for a moment, before relaxing, probably due to the thermal shock.

Just as soon as she had fallen asleep, Kyala could feel her awareness slowly take control of her body. Her left eyelid opened very slowly, her pupil calmly and leisurely thinning to filter the rather sudden army of sunbeams that illuminated her room thoroughly. The same process occurred for her right eye, and before she knew it, her thin, long form was already slithering out of her bed to meet her parents, who wore a face just as cheerful and overall positive as always.

"Why, good morning, sleepyhead!" both greeted her at the same time. She was slightly startled by this, and playfully clawed at their snouts, though trying not to cause any pain. They all chuckled heartily.

"Shut up! You both know I've been flooding with anxiety and curiosity ever since Rokai said he had something to tell me! I know nothing of it, aside from the fact that it's going to be said at sunset near the beach." She explained, although her parents had already heard that. She grabbed her already set up backpack and left with a big smile on her.

"Well then, time for a happy day at school! See you two later." She said, bolting out of the door. Her thrills began as early as right then. To go to her school, she had to slide down a five hundred meter hillside, where a colleague would pick her up and both headed for school. It had been the same one for about three years. Rokai was his name. They were childhood friends, and no one doubted they formed a rock-solid team. Even bystanders or strangers could realize the might of their bond at first sight. During kindergartner, they only left each other's side to use the respective potties. For elementary, they spent nearly as much time together, although they started meeting other people. Their time very slowly decreased, but they found themselves always being at least five hours a day being together, what with being in the same class and Rokai riding her to college and whatnot.

He was a bipedal western dragon, a proud owner of a very well-built body. His scales overall were drowned in a sea of shining, rippling, shimmering blood-like crimson. Although, along the length of his arms and legs, yellow stripes raked them, randomly set. About six stripes could be found on each limb. His horns - golden in color - formed an O on his head, leaving about 45ΒΊ between their tips, five inches separating the widest space between them. His snout had three, round-tipped lumps of bone aligned with its center, exposed in a line. His eyes were colored in a piercing orange, a black pupil always slitting them.

He also wore spiked wristbands quite frequently.

Kyala set herself for the big and frankly quite frightening descent. Her arms reached to about one third of her length and held that section close to her forehead, her chin sticking close to her chest. The rest of her body hung close to her back, draping over it. Then, with her paws, she nudged herself onto the descending part of the hill, and as soon as she was there, she tucked all of herself as close to her as she could, closing her eyes tightly and letting gravity do its work. Soon enough, the curly ball that was Kyala started to roll down the edge of the mountain, picking up snow as she went on. About a quarter through the wild journey, her sides were fully embraced by a snow blanket that had stuck to her.

"Oh dear god, make this QUIIIIIIIIII-", she screamed, her words soon fading around the snowy atmosphere, her speed ever increasing. About halfway through the thrill, she was entirely coated in a relatively thin layer of snow, about seven inches thick. Three quarters through, and she was now a humongous snowball rolling down the hill. Rokai was, as per agreed and tradition, waiting for her at the foot of the hill. While he waited, he gazed into the recently risen sun. It was roughly seven hours in the morning.

Suddenly, around him, the little pebbles began to skip really quickly. The snow around him began to rustle and shift almost unnoticeably. And finally, a growing, already clear rumbling sound began to ring around him. He put a crimson paw to his chin and scratched it quickly, wondering what it was. Rokai was not the smartest of the smart, but he had a good level of basic logic.

An earthquake, maybe? Or perhaps some kind of underground exploration that's being executed without any warning? He wondered. The rumbling evolved to the point of weak, yet still actual earth shaking. He didn't want to turn himself from the sight of the rising sun, but with a sigh, he did, and the second he had the mountain in its plain inside his vision field, he only felt a brutal full-body impact on him before all went black.

Immediately after impact, the snowball cracked open to reveal an equally unconscious Kyala, sprawled on the ground rather randomly, with Rokai ahead of her about five meters. They were out of conscience for about half an hour. When they did wake up, they found themselves inside the Medical Ward of their school.

Rokai was the first of the two to wake up, and his vision soon went from black to blurred, and from blurred to clear. Five others were around him. A black sharkdragon with orange stripes all over named Zed, stood to his right, his shark tail swaying about carelessly.

The second one, sitting near the farthest right bedpost, was a female furdragon named Orianna. Her fur was of a bright yellow tone, with her wings' membranes showing off a bright fire orange.

The third one, sitting directly in front of the bed, was an anthro western dragon, much like Rokai himself. It was his brother Darius. He was a meek anthro, all covered in turquoise scales, with the exception of his wings, which were dark blue. He wore glasses and always carried a book under his arm. He was, simply put, a geek.

To the far left corner of the bed, a deeply worried looking creature, seemingly half-serpent and half-dragoness, slithered around her location, her face showing a frown. Her tongue hung out of her mouth discretely, and her spine quaked gently. She was coal-black, her eyes although resembling diamonds gleaming under bright lights. Her wings shown off a bright, bloody red and she wore a necklace with an emerald in it, along with wristbands colored bright gray. Her name was Dusk. She was quite the worrisome kind, as seen. Her eyes kept bouncing between his chest and his face, to check for vital signs. They were ordered not to disturb either of their rests, so she decided to stick with plain observation.

And finally, right by Rokai's left, stood what seemed like a male version of Dusk, her brother Lucian. His scales although were close to the opposite of hers. His body was of a very light yellow, and his eyes were pure black. His wings were grass green and he had a tipped hourglass tattooed on the back of his left paw.

"Rokai? Ya there, bud?" Zed asked. Rokai blinked once, still not really at a state of plain conscience. Darius stepped forward and put a paw on his brother's chest, nodding slowly with his eyes closed, scrunching his snout to reposition his glasses.

"Yes, he is. He's just weakened to a point where he needs to rest and nothing else." Darius reassured Zed. Rokai went back to sleep. Then, Darius looked over Kyala and slowly moved to her side. She was lying in a bed as well, although no one surrounded her. She was new to their school, and her only friends were Rokai and his own group of friends. Although rumors were they were pretty close...

Her breath was there, but massively slow and also lisping. Darius confirmed this easily with a sigh.

"I'm afraid she has the flu..." he said. The others' reaction was what he expected, but he tried to calm them down.

"But don't worry because it's not a serious one." Darius ensured. Everyone couldn't help but smile, but then the same smile turned into a deep frown when they noticed Rokai shiver visibly. Darius rushed his step to him and quickly placed his paw on his brother's forehead, gasping in alarm.

"H...He's burning up in fever!" Darius exclaimed, looking around frantically. He grabbed the nearest bag of ice and immediately put it upon Rokai's forehead, huffing in hurried exhaustion.

"Phew...well, all we can do now is letting him rest, I assume." the geek nodded to himself and announced his opinion to the others. They nodded as well. Suddenly, a grunt was heard and everyone looked in Kyala's direction. Her eyes slowly opened, and her paws moved about weakly and slowly at first, then slowly gaining confidence.

The others stared for a while, before Orianna crawled to her side.

"How are you feeling, Kyala?" she asked, a smooth, feather-light sweetness bound to her voice. Kyala nodded very slowly and replied in a weak voice.

"Y...Yeah...just...a bit cold, that's all..." she said, coughing up a couple times. Orianna patted her forehead twice before gently forcing her head back down.

"Now now, you need to rest." She half recommended, half ordered. Kyala although shook her head, a stubborn snarl leaving her lips.

"I'm serious, I can hang on. Thanks Orianna, but...just tell me how Rokai is." She asked. Orianna sighed, shook her head and freed the path of vision between her and Rokai. She frowned deeply and slowly slithered out of her bed towards Rokai's, which was to her left. She raised her head level with the crimson dragon's head. She shook her head and gave a look of guilt to everyone.

"I'm sorry guys. This is...my fault. I chose to roll down the hill today, didn't think it'd cause something so nasty..." she confessed. Zed patted her body more or less halfway along it.

"You couldn't predict it. Don't be so hard on yourself. He'll be alright in no time, don't worry." He said, trying to help her feel better. This barely worked though, seeing as her focus was set on Rokai. Her forepaws were hanging on to one of the steel bars set just to the side of the bed. Kyala then lightly pounded her head against the same bar, wincing and whimpering lowly.

Her voice was low, almost mute, and almost only audible by herself, as if she whispered something she didn't wish to be heard by anyone other than herself.

"I'm so sorry for this, Rokai...why'd I have to roll down the darn hill?..." she lamented continuously. The others figured it would be best to leave her be with Rokai for a moment. They trusted each other deeply, so nothing, or at least very little could go wrong.

They left the room one by one for no particular reason, and after no more than fifteen seconds Rokai and Kyala were all alone. The eastern one's eyes exuded deep sorrow and slight shame as the lowly whimpering mass that was her stood next to Rokai at all times. She looked over every apparatus connected to him with extreme zeal, and over Rokai himself as well.

She repeatedly mumbled the words "I'm sorry..." and "Please don't be angry..." seeing as she felt deeply at fault of what had happened to put the crimson dragon in such a state. Her tail swished slowly from side to side, her paws sliding along the steel bar every so often. She sighed and merely adjusted his blanket to cover him better. This, although, caused him to wake up, his eyes slowly opening, giving place to two orange orbs that shimmered with a leftover of fever. They slowly rotated to locate what had awoken him up, realizing it had been Kyala. His lips slowly parted to try and speak as calmly as possible.

"K...ya...la?" he weakly voiced himself, hoping to get her attention. This was precisely what he got as her head quickly spun around to look Rokai over, a gigantic smile instantly cutting her lips. She fought hard to bite back a squeal of relief and utter joy, instead only letting out a nearly sobbing sigh of relief, launching herself right onto his arms as soon as she could, hugging him as tightly as she had ever hugged anyone.

Rokai was both shocked and surprised, but a discrete, stealthy smile crawled upon his lips as he saw that Kyala was now holding on to him.

I'll be honest, her touch feels good... he thought to himself, one of his forepaws moving towards the back of her neck, resting it there lightly. Kyala voiced a small 'Meep' at this, his touch felt eerily cold, but knowing who it belonged to quickly led her to reading the eerie feeling as one of comfort. She purred for some time, before slowly crawling further onto the recovering dragon's embrace, to which he gladly responded by covering her upper back with his arms, actually pulling her slightly closer. She smiled and blushed slightly at this, but the blush quickly erased itself as the rest of her body clumsily slithered onto the bed as well.

"I'm so glad you're alright, Rokai!" she exclaimed. He breathed in deeply as the last ounce of his missing strength slowly sipped back in and nodded, patting her head.

"As am I, Kyala. I did tell you it wouldn't be such a nice idea to try rolling your way down..." he sheepishly taunted her with a still somewhat weak chuckle. She quickly glared him with a furious yet playful look and clawed at his snout, chuckling as well.

"Shut up! I wanted to try it, that's all!" she excused herself.

I also wanted to get to you as fast as possible, heh... she thought to herself. She slowly let go of him and sat on the floor, looking at him.

"How do you feel now, Rok?" she asked, using an abbreviation they'd used for some time, mostly because it sounded like 'Rock', which was his true nickname, known for being hardy and incredibly stoic. She didn't like this name though, and neither did he, so they both agreed on using 'Rok'.

"I feel neutral, Kyala. Thanks for asking though. Where are the others?"

"They left just now and judging by the time..." she said, looking out of the window and checking where the sun was. "...I'd say they went to grab a quick nom. We might as well, depending on how hungry you are." She proposed. He nodded and slowly got off of the bed, heading to the little shelf next to the door of the relatively small compartment, where his wristbands were. As he put them on, she could notice a rather tattered, torn and generally scruffy-looking piece of paper, which he, for some reason, took special care in hiding from sight. She wondered what the matter with it was, but eventually she dismissed the paper and turned to the door, opening it for him and waiting for him to go through before she herself did, and they soon found themselves plain out in a corridor of their school. Everything was normal and in place, as if they hadn't even gone through. First thing they noticed was their head teacher and Biology teacher, Mister Morwick, a bipedal werewolf who sported thick glasses, a mostly calm look and expression, although in a hurry in that particular occasion. His fur was purely white, his eyes sea-blue. He hastily moved to the two dragons, holding a seemingly heavy yet compact briefcase.

"I am in a hurry right now, so I'll be quick with my point. Some last case affairs appeared concerning me and a second job I'm applying for, so there won't be any Biology today. Meaning you won't have any more classes today. Although..." he said, handing them a little memo-like paper with numbers and letters in it.

"Try doing these exercises to help you study for your test tomorrow. Now I must go. Good to see you're both better!" he said before with a pant hurrying off faster than he had presented himself. They only had time to wave before they knew he'd not even hear them, so they just went on. Lyra glanced upon the memo and put it away shortly after, nodding to herself.

"Alright, seems like we might as well do pages 100, 101 and 102 to help us study for this. Want to come over to my place for this?" she proposed. Her parents really trusted her daughter with who she chose to bring home, since they were perfectly aware how picky she was with who she socialized with. Rokai nodded enthusiastically, but as he was about to speak, a loud rumble and growl were heard between the two. Kyala raised an eyebrow and extended a claw to poke at his belly twice, smirking and laughing.

"Seems like you're hungrier than you'd know about, hm?" she asked rhetorically.

"Come on, let's just go before you set off an earthquake on yourself." She added, laughing even louder and patting his lower leg. They moved frontally from their current position, and quickly made it to the canteen, where they went in, this time with Rokai opening the door for her. She smiled with a paw covering her maw delicately and entered, flicking her tail at the cooks over at the kitchen. They waved back and she went on, picking up a tray, a dish and silverware and picking her food out of the available, all with her tail. Rokai did the same, and in the end, Kyala had chicken breast with rice, along with cooked corn and a mild yet noticeable seasoning of olive oil, some spices and some aromatic plants. A barely noticeable smoke column ascended from it. Rokai although, had a completely different dish. He had picked a few grilled sardines and a couple octopus tentacles with roasted potatoes, showered in olive oil. The smells danced in their snouts and caused them to drool a bit over their respective meals.

They were alone in the canteen that day, so it was all the easier to seat together. Rokai sat as all anthros did, on a chair. True enough, ferals had their own corner for health reasons, but Kyala had managed to completely overthrow this rule for her, simply by stacking a couple more chairs on top of her own with the help of Rokai, then standing on her forepaws on it, almost making out a handstand, with her tail curling to her right and setting everything up for lunch. She'd basically use her tail as if it was a paw. Once everything was set and ready, they dug in hungrily, and at some time, entered a competition over who could eat faster. It was a close one, but after all the flying bits of food and the competitive looks, Rokai came out the winner. She threw her tongue out at him before chuckling and wiping a bit of fish from his snout, eating it happily.

"You had some there." She explained. He nodded and smiled before standing up and heading for the exit, waiting for Kyala, kneeling himself as he had something to tell her. She promptly arrived and wondered what he wanted.

"Well, I'll be leaving now. I want to get our massive stacks of homework done before studying properly. I'll meet you at sunset near the Eagle's Watch." He explained, before rushing off and picking his backpack up on his way. She nodded to herself and followed his actions suite, returning to her own house.

After some six hours of intensive homework doing had passed, she realized it was sunset already. Just as she did, her parents entered the room.

"We believe you have someone to meet somewhere by now, miss?" they rhetorically asked with a smile. She nodded and looked herself over on the mirror, before leaving hastily and sliding down the mountain with her body slithering behind her. About three quarters through, she stopped herself and walked down, jumping off when she could. She looked around and noticed Rokai's silhouette against the setting sun's light, and rushed there with a wide smile all over her face. Once she arrived, but after tripping a couple times, she tapped his shoulder with her tail and smiled at him.

"I'm here, Rok. What'd you want do say?" she asked. He nodded slowly and breathed in deeply, before whipping out the paper from earlier and beginning to recite it to her, working his voice to be as smooth as possible, even though his changing teenager voice sort of made the task a bit more difficult. Still, he carried on with no drop of hesitance, and after a while and another deep breath, he shook his head, curled the paper into a ball and flung it across the road, kneeling in front of Kyala and focusing his gaze on hers. She knew this was serious, but still listened silently.

"Kyala...we've been the best friends ever since we left our diapers. We've never left each other's side, and protected each other all the time. We laughed together, we mourned together and we even waddled together in times of confusion. And ever since you entered the school where we are in now, I'd had something inside me...something shocking, surprising, but something that also seemed deeply right to me...I...I don't know why, but I want to be with you as much as possible, and as close as possible. I...Kyala...I..." he started, before stopping to catch his breath. He turned away, but Kyala followed his face and coiled her tail under her to stand more level with Rokai.

"You...what, Rokai? You what?"

"I...I love you...I've loved you for about a year. But I never really came out with it because I was afraid I was not to your appeal...Even now, I have that fear. But I...I love you. With every single cell...atom...of me. I love you, Kyala." He said, his pupils dilated from the anxiety. Time seemed to still for a moment. Everything stopped. Rokai was on a hinge of emotions. After a while, Kyala nodded slowly, and lowered her head. He then slowly coiled around his left leg, moving up and along his body: first the leg, then his waist and belly, then his chest, and finally, with care, a coil around his neck. Her sky-blue eyes delved deep into his suddenly vulnerable orange eyes. And after what, for Rokai, seemed like an eternity, her eyes closed and her lips met his. Sticking there and not letting go, her paws on his shoulders, her hind legs wrapped around his waist. Rokai replied by closing his own eyes, his arms slowly circling her back and pulling her close to him, his tail coiling around hers, his horns gleaming against the golden setting sun. At the same moment, snow began to fall from a few thick clouds in the sky, and a breeze soon picked up. This led to the air taking on a divine, surreal aspect, as if stars shot across it. Their embrace got deeper and deeper, low rumbles in both lovers' chests, until they slowly broke the kiss, almost painfully. Kyala reached her head towards his ear and whispered in an overjoyed voice.

"I love you too, Rokai. I have for about two years. You've made me...the happiest girl in the whole wide world. You were my protector while my parents couldn't be present...I...can't express how much I've thought of you."

"I can imagine it...now come on, let's go. Weather's not getting any warmer, and besides, we have a test tomorrow. Maybe we could study...together?" he proposed. She nodded happily and untangled his leg, licking his snout and hugging his head from the side, resting her head on his head's side. He flied off with her all over him, happier than ever. Rokai pointed to his house's direction and she nodded again.

"Sure. It must be as amazing as you are...sweetheart." She agreed and blushed gently. Rokai kissed her snout softly and flied off, flying to his house and looking at Kyala every time he could, lost in the bliss of his mate's divine face. He kissed her lips once more, and she eagerly returned the kiss. This was something constant in their flight, and soon enough, they arrived at Rokai's place. It was slightly bigger than her house, and it was colored pretty much after Rokai himself, though for no special reason.

"I have one more surprise for you when we're inside, dear." He announced. She nodded and murred in excitement as he went in, and to her utmost surprise, both Rokai's and her parents were there!

"M...Mom? Dad? What are you doing here?" she asked, confused.

"Catching up with our old friends and celebrating the fact that you finally found someone special in your life." They said, before offering her a big bunch of roses and in particular, a new necklace. This one brought a diamond still, only with a topaz dangling right beside it, and shaped like their likers. The diamond described an eight, with the head connecting with the tip of the tail on the underside. The topaz was in the shape of an anthro western, with little curves coming out on top of it as the horns, and the wings fully extended. Kyala readily wore it, and hugged Rokai tight, kissing his cheek softly and repeatedly.

Rokai replied by holding her paws in his, looking at her gleefully.

"I hope you enjoyed your surprise, my precious diamond." He said, kissing her lips very lightly. She nodded and climbed to his head, still not leaving the coils, and bowed her head to everyone present.

"Everyone...love...thank you. For making my life just as wonderful as the one whom I'm going to share it with. Rokai...dad...mom...Rokai's own dad and mum...I love you all. Deep in my heart." She spoke up. Everyone agreed and her head poked through Rokai's shoulder again.

"Well...we have a test to study for. Excuse us." Rokai said, before making his way through the other four, who continued their lively chatting.

Rokai and Kyala studied until the moon was high in the sky, at which time Kyala's parents interrupted them.

"Come on, it's time for us to go. We don't want to bother." They said in a calm tone.

"Actually...could Kyala stay for tonight?" Rokai questioned.

Kyala's parents pondered and ended up nodding with a smile.

"Of course she may. With people like you, I'm sure she will be both happy and safe." Kyala's father, Chrono, said. Kyala couldn't help but squeal in joy and lunge at her father for a tight hug.

"Thanks dad! Thanks again and again!" she thanked him rather abundantly. He nodded and kissed her cheek as a goodbye, before his daughter lunged back into her mate's arms, coiling around him just like she had done it before. So, the families split for the night, and everyone was in their respective room.

Kyala didn't leave Rokai, and neither did he her. They went to his bed together, and together they stayed. Suddenly, they could hear some mild bouncing sounds on the other side.

"Oh, don't worry about that. My parents have just been trying to have another child for some time now. Apparently dad keeps missing his target..." he joked, and they both chuckled, before Rokai pulled the covers over them. They kissed each other's lips with passion and love, before staring at each other blankly yet meaningfully for some time. After this, Rokai rolled so that he'd be below her, letting her rest her head under his chin, which she did. After a few licks and nuzzles, both wrapped each other in their arms, imagining they will someday be the ones doing those lovely melodies and falling asleep soon after, holding each other through the night...
