#13 of The Draconian Story

A Reptilian Ancestor

Richard was trying his best to find one stranger he just known. Because of his weird reptilian draconic model, he tried to find everything about Schrosharx. He never knew the model of the draconian before, or maybe that kind of model wasn't even existed in his memory at all.

After he was exhausted from taking so many books and references from the shelves and putting them back again, he started to feel dizzy and when he saw the librarian, he suddenly felt very hungry and thinking of the draconian as food. He licked his mouth with his snake-like tongue, and he really wanted to eat the draconian whole to sate him.

When he had elongated his claws and unknown to the unlucky draconian, Richard wanted to grab him and eat him whole...

...before a sudden shock to his body made him fell.

"Richard, pull yourself together!" exclaimed Engrak inside the draconian's mind. "You're still too labile to be left alone! You're turning into a dragon, goddamn it!"

"I...I can't resist the hunger..."

"It's your fault to be trying to find something you can't find. C'mon, I'll try to press that hunger while you go find some food to eat. Get yourself together, man. You'll win."

"Y...yeah...but what time is this?"

"There's a clock, right? This is a library."

Richard tried to walk away, but the torture of the hunger started to overwhelm him and every kind of living things he saw was like food to him, and he even dripped his saliva like a hungry dog for thinking about that. He tried to stop the sensation, and he managed to hold it until he reached the 24/7 mart Juagar once taken him for a food.

After he ate around five bowls of dish (and startled the shopkeeper), he paid them all, but he lost all of his pocket money and now he had nothing until next month. He needed new jobs, and fast if he wanted to stop himself from killing and eating innocent draconians.

After a struggle, he found Juagar's Mothshov, but the draconian wasn't there. From the place it parked, Richard could guess he was drinking inside the bar beside where the car was parked. Some draconians Richard recognized from Erizce Street was standing near his car.

"Hey...you two are the ones fixing his car, right?" asked Richard.

"Oh, and you are Fritz's friend. We wanted to say sorry to him because we forgot to refuel the car, but..."

"But what? He's inside this bar, right? If he's sleeping or unconscious, you can find him..."

"...in this overcrowded, violent, biker bar? Are you nuts?"

Richard failed to notice the ruckus until one black jacketed red draconian burst out from the second floor and landing just near Richard. When he saw the draconian didn't move, Richard rushed there and feel his body.

No heartbeat. He's dead.

"So?"

"Let's just say this guy's been wasted," said Richard with a sigh. "He couldn't be here, but he must be in one of these bars."

"You can try that bar across the street. That's the cool part, no violence."

After taking Juagar out from the bar and handed the car key for the draconians to refuel, Juagar said, "Oh, my car was parked in front of the biker bar because my watering hole's parking lot is full, so..."

"I was so concerned with that, you idiot!" exclaimed Richard while interrupting Juagar. "I thought you are inside that...violent house. But after I saw one dead drake, I can say you won't be able to survive once you open the door."

"W...well, yeah, that's the Dragon's Teeth Biker Club, and it's not even a public bar. Oh, I guess they had a dispute on things again."

"You know them?"

"Dragon's Teeth were small-time biker club which was, in many aspects, my previous street racing club rivals. We sometimes tried to find any reasoning in using the main street for racing, but of course like we always said, motorcycles and cars don't go well with each other. Sometimes a fight broke out. They used their swords, we used ours. No gunfights at that time, but we eventually disbanded while they became bigger when the mayor considered car racing was dangerous, especially when weapons were legalized."

"Oh, and you say motorcycles aren't as dangerous as using cars? I see those big black bikes parking near your car," said Richard while pointing his claw to one of a big motorcycle. "Aren't those open-air vehicles are even vulnerable to any shots?"

"That's why this town had a very unique violence unseen in most cities in South Apachia." Juagar became silent for a moment, and then he said, "So, what did you do?"

"I went to a library."

"And?"

"I...uh, trying to find what that unique looking draconian I met in Erizce. He doesn't have most draconic features...but he's higher than me."

"What the heck?! I thought you're the highest goddamn drake around here with those dragon-like feet of yours. What can be even...?"

"If you wanna know, I'll tell you what his feet looks like when we get home, alright?"

"You can remember his feet?"

"It's very unique for me, and that big claw really like he was trying to point with it."

Juagar thought he could find something unusual with it. He remembered it from his history lesson many years ago, and he somehow remembered what Richard described as 'a pointy big claw' from the time when he was helping Kijte with his homework. Richard wasn't a normal kind of human, or even draconian, for being like that all the time.

They needed to go to sleep after a whole day without sleep (especially Juagar, who dozed off after he saw the bed). While both males were sleeping, Cernelesh was watching a show about cooking, but then her minds were drifted away to Richard. She slowly admired his body, his traits, his skills, and everything. Cernelesh was having an issue about having boyfriends because the last boyfriend she got when she was in high school dumped her, and left a very big scar to her heart when he knew her boyfriend was a complete jerk and obsessed with sex.

Although Richard was a stranger becoming friends with her brother, she at first didn't like the half-dragon to be called a guest since he was too big to be a normal draconian. But then...by time when he knew Richard could run as fast as wind and he loved to help both Cernelesh and Juagar, the female draconian became fond to him, and sometimes giving him a cup of coffee after finishing her chores.

"But...I don't like having boys in my life," thought Cernelesh. "That idiot was a pimp and I hated him for this time! I swear I'll take his private part as a trophy the next time I saw him! At least...Richard wasn't like that. But I still can't. Males can't be outright."

"Having a bad memory? I can understand."

The voice in her head was so loud that she almost screamed. The voice WAS Richard's voice, but deeper.

"W...who are you?"

"Shhh...don't wake the sleepers. I'm inside your mind, and you can see me through your minds."

"I...I can't."

"I don't expect you to be, though. So, having betrayed?"

Cernelesh suddenly winced from that. How the voice could know?

"Y...you..."

"Stop," interrupted the voice. "I'll tell you my name. I'm Engrak, and I'm the soul that gave Richard his half draconic body now. If you want to find me, I'm inside his sword, helping him in this world. He's so old-fashioned, you know."

"Oh, so...you're typically a ghost."

"No! I'm a spirit dwelling inside a sword. Ghost is...uh, ghost is...a free spirit! Yeah, I'm a sealed spirit!"

"Just spit everything you wanna say."

"I guess you don't get me as a terrifying thing, are you?" said Engrak a little cynical. "Well, my friend sleeping in the guest room got stressed out because he was trying to find a particular reptilian species. He almost lost himself when he got stressed out, so I want you to find the thing he wanted to find."

"Hey, reptilians are so many and we're only one of them!" exclaimed Cernelesh. "If you don't give me the detail, I won't..."

"The thing had a big pointy claw from one of its three toes at its feet."

"A Velociraptor."

"It got spiky back..."

"A spinosaur."

"And elongated claws."

"A lizard."

"Wait a sec, why do you know all of them like they were your daily job?"

"That's some hell of a species you got there. Is that species a cross between a raptor, a spinosaurus, and a lizard? You see, I know some famous reptilian ancestors because of Kijte's story book."

"Okay...how about dragons?"

"Dragons are...you know, scaly, breathe fire, flying, and our superform?"

"Shit...you're one hell of a drake, you know. Anyway, enjoy your day off. I'll leave you be."

"H...hey, wait!"

"What?"

"You know...I guess because you have read my mind...I wanna ask you something. Is Richard...really is a straight male?"

Engrak was silent for a moment, but he then said, "No, because he got a secret that I'll tell you now. He's a beast, a dragon. I don't want to break your heart, but be understood that he wasn't from this world...and he's unstable. For your safety, don't get to close to him."

"Why do you tell me now? He can tell me everything, right?"

"We're creatures with secrets, Cernelesh Hadfreid. As you're involved in our world, you'll...find it difficult to say that dragons are super. Goodbye."

Engrak finally went silent, but Cernelesh thought that was only a dream, but also a reality. There couldn't be a being that could communicate like that, right? If it's a movie, it's okay, but this was a real world, although...that voice was like real voice...and it was serious.

At the afternoon, Richard woke up first and started to make some coffee (he knew how to make one from Vandel whenever he was awoke at night). He saw Cernelesh watching the TV about artist gossip while drinking something the golden draconian couldn't see.

Richard still couldn't find out what was Schrosharx's main race. He was a draconian...but also not a draconian. He could only find a small portion of draconic part, his head. The rest of his body was like another kind of reptile, as opposed to Hector's shark-like draconic body. Hector was like a mutant having shark fin, shark tail, and shark teeth, but draconic head and horns.

"Something doesn't fit with his...girlish behavior," thought Richard. "I can't believe I met a fierce-looking draconian but having a girlish behavior like that! Damn, that's disgusting."

"Hey, Richard. I talked with Cernelesh about that draconian," said Engrak inside his head (or in his case, he saw the dragon lounging on a sofa beside Cernelesh's). "He's a dinosaur descent."

"Dinosaur?"

"Yeah, what she called the 'reptilian ancestors'. Maybe you should ask her more. I can't convince her to talk much since I'm not a mortal being."

"And I also can't just walk in and talk about unnecessary things like that!" replied Richard. "She won't gonna like it."

"Yeah, and you're a coward. I know you're scared to her harsh behavior, right?"

Richard was surprised when Engrak told him that. "B...but I didn't..."

"You can't deny your draconic mental poisoning, Richard. You started to develop dragon's fear only seen when you're facing an equally high race...and dragon's lust."

"Alright, alright! Don't give me that look, okay? You told me about the lust already, so cut it out!"

Engrak fell into silence, but from the dragon's expression, Richard could say that he was lost in words. Because of the panic they encountered back in Erizce (because of misunderstanding), Engrak never took any of his word in serious term. But now, maybe he was taking it seriously.

"I thought I said dragons can't get STD, right?" said Engrak. "Look, we're reptiles, not mammals. Their mysteries stay with them. The draconians also said that STD is only a myth, so it's fine. You're the first cursed victim I knew to try to deny that kind of natural behavior."

"Natural?! Wha...but then, Seraphor and Avila..."

"They're still young...and also they had history together. Don't see at them, okay? Do you remember Shariot?"

Richard gasped. Shariot WAS the example of a dragon lust Richard knew. She loved both Ray and Ernest, and mated to each other. He knew and feeling disgusted when he eventually would become like her...but in a worse way.

"A...anyway, I'll try to find what the draconian's type is.... Maybe I'll off."

But before he could even take a step, Cernelesh pulled his arm and throw him to the sofa. This shocked him, and even because of the reflex he got, he almost killed the female draconian.

"W...what the heck are you doing, Cernelesh?! My blade almost cut your head!"

"Don't blame me. That friend inside your sword asks me to do this, to tell you what I know."

"Engrak? That fucking idiot! He risked your life just for this?!"

"You're looking for a dinosaur!"

Richard became silent. "Dinosaur? Like, my feet?"

"No! That's not a dinosaur feet, you idiot! You're a half-dragon, right? Believe your race!"

"But I thought..."

"That friend of yours told me that the draconian you seek could have a reptilian ancestor's blood flowing in his vein. Here, I'll borrow you my encyclopedia about dinosaurs. From what your friend said, that draconian had raptor and spinosaur's feature."

Richard snatched the book and with incredible speed, he turned into the index and seeked 'raptor' and 'spinosaur' category. Upon seeing both, he found something weird. Schrosharx had both feature, yes, but something was different.

Although he had raptor's feet and spinosaur's spike 'hair', Schrosharx had another feature...another not ancient feature. His claws were...like a modern day lizard.
