The duty of a city guard is simple. Protect the city and its citizens at all costs, from threats within and without. No matter what, the city guard would always remain the last line of defence against invasion, where the army would fail. For a city as large and imposing as Stormwind, this meant a very selective recruitment was needed, to ensure only the best soldiers would serve such an honourable role.

Christie liked to consider herself extremely lucky to have attained such a rank. She had trained so hard during her childhood to become a paragon of justice, one she idealized through the golden lion on the blue background, the insignia of the city, present on her plated steel armour. It hadn't taken very long for her to face her very first challenge as an official city guard, although it wasn't one she had expected in the slightest.

Everything was extremely sudden, although it had felt much slower by her own perception. There was no clear explanation to what was going on; it seemed to simply be a spontaneous event. She was posted at the city gates at night when it began to happen.

The first feelings were rather subtle. She felt her armour tighten ever so slightly, as well as become increasingly itchy. At the same time, however, it also seemed to become lighter, as if her training to carry such heavy metal on her body had suddenly become unnecessary. It seemed she would need to request a new uniform, though, as she felt the leather straps holding the individual pieces of plate together began to stretch and tear.

In some places, the metal would simply fall to the ground with a loud clank, losing any way of being attached to Christie's body, revealing the thin undershirt below. Physically, it felt rather nice; as such armour was very constricting, yet for the sake of her honour, she felt stripped of her prestigious rank.

Part of her mind wondered what was happening to her, but another part just didn't care. She felt a strange need to remove her boots, something which became hard quite quickly, as she felt her hands and feet filling her armour more and more. The exposed parts of her body where the armour had fallen off showed she was changing very quickly, and very visibly.

Christie's skin was quickly going from its pale colour into a very dark hue, the soft flesh taking on a harder texture. Luckily for her, her partner had been on a break, so she was free to wallow in her own bizarreness for a few moments, scratching at the glistening black scales which covered more and more of her body. There was no particular pattern to the change; spots just seemed to spontaneously turn into scales, until her entire body was covered in scales.

Very carefully, she leaned over the side of the bridge to look at the small lake below. While the distance to the water's surface was great, she felt her sight was somehow good enough to inspect her own face in the reflection. Her eyes had taken on a very reptilian appearance, a bright orange iris centered by a slit black pupil. Her face had stretched itself out to become a long, thin muzzle, lined on the inside by what appeared to be razor sharp teeth.

The loud sound of metal tearing itself apart brought her attention back to the rest of her body. As she sat on the stony cobbles of the bridge, she could simply watch as her toes tore through the steel boots she was wearing, with what appeared to be thin, sharp claws. The feeling was rather ecstatic, similar to a gentle foot massage coupled with a nice long stretch while taking a warm bath in the hot springs. The fact that this was a very resilient metal she had just shattered was insignificant to the nice feel of freedom for her new scaled feet.

Leaning on a lamp post, she slowly got up, but let out a soft gasp when she laid all her weight on her two feet. At that point, most of her armour had given way to her slowly swelling body. It was she finally stood straight that she realized how much she had already grown, to a point where she would have to lean forward to fit through the gates, which were once three times her height.

All this time, she kept her feet planted firmly on the ground, closing her eyes to focus on changing difference between her size and that of the world around her. Each inch she grew taller, her feet seemed to stretch against the cobbles below. The larger they got, the more she could feel the gentle bumps and imperfections from the rocks. A quick forward slide of one foot against the ground accentuated this feeling, which seemed to trigger a new change.

She nearly lost her balance when a large tail suddenly sprang forth behind her, a thick, reptilian extension of her spine. Were it not for her powerful grip on one of the gateway towers, she would likely have fallen off the bridge and into the lake. Getting used to the new tail was rather quick, although it nearly resulted in the destruction of the outer gates, on the other side of the bridge.

The larger she grew, the harder it became to remain standing on the increasingly thin bridge. A quick attempt to stand sideways was a very bad idea, as the small rocks were no match for her growing weight. The bridge shattered below her, seeming to simply melt against her feet as it tore apart. Tiny rocks bombarded her soles during the split second she fell, until she landed into the bottom of the lake, her toes digging into a mixture of stone and mud, which caused a slight tingle to cross her spine, from her head to the tip of her tail.

Christie let out a little sigh as she tried to figure out what just happened. She had grown to nearly ten times her size in just a few minutes, for apparently no reason. She had taken on a very reptilian form, once again with no explanation. Her armour had been completely destroyed by her weight or lost in the lake, save for a very small piece of cloth which had been impaled on one of her new horns. It bore the lion's insignia, the sigil of Stormwind.

A small moving figure quickly caught her attention. Her partner had returned from his break, he would be able to get her some help!

He simply stayed quiet as he looked up towards Christie from the standing portions of the gate, until he uttered a terrified warning to the rest of the guard.

"The black dragons are back!"
