Chapter Nineteen

The world's Corruptions

The last thing Evin had known before he found himself in his current predicament, was that he was tired from his previous efforts of saving people and having failed to save a brave ranger's best friend. Then, wham; when he came to again he was underwater and couldn't tell which way was up as water and bubbles swirled all around him.

His body felt like it had been slammed into a brick wall and then run over by a cement truck, as he now limply tried to regain control of his limbs. His lungs were already screaming for air, which told him that he must have been knocked out for a few moments after being struck by a wave. Then his own aura senses told him another thing as well, as he began to sink from the weight of his armor, and from this he could feel it deep down to his very core. He was dying.

Whether it was from the bones in his body being smashed to pieces or by drowning, it didn't matter; he could feel everything around him slipping away. His powers were exhausted and his body broken, and no matter how much he willed it, his arms and legs wouldn't do so much as twitch. Soon darkness took him, and his last thoughts of this world were of Rika as he felt her aura call out to his, even as he slipped away into the endless abyss of the ocean.

***

Elsewhere five days later, there was another powerful adventurer who in some ways like Evin himself, possessed his own extraordinary powers. His name is Ian, and after he had spent the last two days enduring nightmares of the worst sort from the evil that was corrupting the land, he had gotten a message saying that Slateport city would soon be under attack.

Once having been human, Ian had been reborn as a latios and had soon after beginning his new life taken Latias of Altomare as his mate. However a situation had soon come up that Ian would have to leave Altomare for the funeral of his best childhood friend, and shortly after returning to his original home, Arceus came to Latias and him in a dream.

In this dream, Arceus told them of a prophesy that directly involved Ian as the key to the downfall of a foe beyond all understanding. Now that foe had arisen and has told Ian in the form of a two day long nightmare that he would die before the day was out. This day had yet to truly begin, yet had already become the worst of Ian's life as the anticipation of what was to come knotted in the pit of his stomach.

His form along with his companion Latias shimmered in the morning light as the reflections of the water below them made it hard to remain completely invisible, whilst still carrying a Gardevior and a human named Jace on their streamline backs.

Ocean waters zoomed by beneath them and as Jace clung to Ian's back to keep himself steady, his teeth chattering the entire way from the cold moist ocean air chilling him to the bone. They zoomed along at horrendous speeds as they were still trying to get to Slateport before the fighting began.

Ian was in complete concentration mode as he was still franticly trying to piece together some kind of plan as to how he could defeat the Arvel Revenant and not get himself or Latias killed in the process. The nightmare that Ian had had for the last two days, had very much so bothered him to the point that his thoughts often kept wondering back to what kind of surprise could possibly be in store for him at Slateport that could lead to his undoing.

Latias could sense these thoughts in him, which also caused her to worry for everyone's safety; as she knew that Ian was always thoughtful of everyone around them as well. But she didn't like the fact that the Revenant was expecting them to come and was terrified of the thought of losing her mate so early after just finally such a short time ago coming to have him become her suitable match. They were about to enter real war, and there was nothing they could do to prepare for it.

Gardevoir was in about the same predicament as Jace in all of this, as the cold air nipped at her extremities as the miles of ocean blended together. But even with the cold biting at her, her thoughts were composed and dedicated to how she could possibly protect Ian from harm, which was now in fact her life's mission. She would die before she saw him killed in battle and this is what she told herself to keep the fear of having her heart broken again away.

Even though Ian had been thinking hard about things, now that he had obtained a new ability two days back, he didn't like that Gardevior was thinking this way. The thought of her using herself as a shield bothered him and he wished he could change her mind on the matter. But he also had the feeling that it was the only thing keeping her going since Lucas had shot himself.

Miles had already passed and they were drawing near to the Slateport coast, when something Ian was not expecting came within his sensing range. He didn't know what it was, but the more he tried to analyze it the more he began to fear it. He immediately told the others what he was sensing and the others agreed that they should check it out to be sure it isn't related to the Revenant.

Diverting from their original course a bit, Ian and the others were soon flying over the bay near Slateport. From what Ian could tell the thing that he was sensing wasn't moving. But what was odd about it, was that it didn't seem to be giving off a bad aura, or for that matter doing anything. The power within it though was beyond anything he could imagine, and he could sense that even from within her poke`ball that Nera was also restless from feeling the thrum of energy.

Once they were a bit further inland they finally spotted it. Ian using his telepathy to talk, pointed and said, "There!" and then he and Latias angled down as they shot towards the ground. Once they were on solid land on the bay's sandy beach, Ian's and Latias's forms changed from pokemon to human as their bodies shimmered from the transition.

They had landed a good distance away from what they saw, since they still weren't sure what it was. They were looking at something that totally amazed and baffled them, as it was something that looked like a large oblong shaped seed pod. But that wasn't even the strangest thing about it. The weirdest thing that they were still trying to wrap their minds around, was that it seemed to be totally comprised of powerfully condensed aura and psychic energy.

As they looked on at the strange object in awe, Jace let Nera out of her ball and Ian asked her what she thought it was. Nera shook her head and said with her aura telepathy, "I don't know, this is the first time I've ever seen anything like this." Ian clinched his first and said, "Do you think it could be a trap or possibly have anything to do with the Revenant?"

Nera didn't answer, but she did go in closer and put a paw against it. What she felt from the contact was horribly confusing. She had never been in contact with an aura that was equal parts good along with being equally bad. It was as if whatever this thing was, strived for some kind of neutral balance.

Ian hand been ready for something to happen the moment Nera had touched the thing along with everyone else, but what she had touched it, nothing had happened. Nera finally spoke up again and said, "I don't think it's a trap, and I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the Revenant. But I can't tell if its good or bad since it seem to contain both in precisely equal amounts. I don't think tha--!"

Just then the pod-like object pulsed with a ripple of energy through the air as time seemed to stand still for a second. Then just as everyone jumped back with surprise, Ian thought for just the slightest part of a moment that he had seen a man in dark black robes touch the pod. But it happened so fast that he wasn't sure what it was. Then came the totally unexpected.

The pod began to disintegrate, and what it left behind was a kid with silvery hair that wore the strangest cloths that he had ever seen. He looked a little under the weather and had a nasty looking old scrape on his face, but other than that he was alive. Then it made everyone jump when the kid took a sudden gasp and sat bolt up right as he opened his eyes.

The kid they were looking at looked around at his surroundings franticly without seeing anything for a moment, then his eyes locked on Ian's group and he asked, "How did I get here?" then Ian felt it; the boy was suddenly everywhere as his aura pressed against everything around him. Jace for the most part had no way to notice this or guard against it, but the others struggled to keep him from seeing their thoughts and memories.

With his hands over both ears, Ian said, "Stop that, we don't know how you got here, just quit trying to get into our heads!" Ian reached out with his psychic powers and tried to push the boy's consciousness away from everyone, but the boy insisted on gleaning something from them, even if it wasn't what he was looking for. Jace ended up being the one who had his mind read, which caused him to collapse from the suddenness of it.

The moment Jace collapsed, the pressure of the boy's consciousness ceased and the boy stood up and said, "I'm sorry about that, I needed to be sure, please forgive my forcefulness on trying to ready your minds." Everyone in Ian's group groaned as they rubbed their throbbing heads and Ian thought to himself, "Who is this kid? He nearly incapacitated us all just now by trying to ready our minds!"

Ian took a defensive stance and yelled, "Who are you?! Do you work for the Revenant?!" Evin just cocked his head and said, "The reve what? I've never heard of such a thing." Then to himself Evin muttered, "And I thought I was supposed to know most everything about this world..."

Ian quickly retorted when he heard Evin muttering to himself but couldn't quite hear what was said, as he still didn't trust him and said, "What was that? I couldn't hear what you said." Evin was getting a bit annoyed and said, "It's of no concern to you. Now where is this place? I was on a ship that was in rout to Hoenn when a wave clobbered me overboard. And damn-it quit trying to read my mind in retaliation; you don't want to see it."

Ian and Nera looked at each other and then looked at Gardevior who shrugged at them. Ian didn't see any problem in telling him, but said, "You still haven't told us your name." Evin put his hand to his forehead for a second as he began to heal himself, which caused his hair to shimmer for a moment. Seeing this from his own point of view, Ian felt the kid using his powers and half expected and attack when he saw the shimmer in Evin's hair. But then the kid looked up and said, "My name is Evin"

At that moment though the name hardly mattered, Ian and the others were staring in shock because the kid had just healed himself over a few seconds. Sure he still looked like he hadn't eaten in a while, but he no longer looked like he was sick with the flu and the scrap on her face was now completely gone.

Finally Ian asked the big question, "How do you have all of these powers?" Evin had already abandoned his usual subtly because they had already seen more than enough to gather that he wasn't normal. After having gone through Jace's memory like an open book, Evin didn't think it seemed to matter where he was from even.

So he said with a smirk, "Well, you could say I'm not of this world. But that would be pushing it... I honestly don't know how I got my powers. Nor do I necessarily know how to use them all. I just know that I'm downright pissed at the god that keeps toying with me."

Ian and the others were absolutely baffled by this boy's completely unorthodox explanation. The only god they knew of was Arceus, yet this Evin kid made it sound like there was something beyond her. Then it happened, Ian, Evin and even Nera turned towards the city of Slateport just as a terrible wave of evil could be felt not far from their location.

Ian cursed and Evin agreed and said, "I'm not even awake for two minutes and already I'm going to have a bad day." Evin sighed and said as he removed the two poke`balls from his belt, "You don't happen to have any spare food on you would you? I feel like I haven't eaten in forever." Just then one of the balls opened all on its own and right before Ian's very eyes a shiny zoroark appeared and roared at Evin.

Evin kind of leaned sideways away from the force of the extremely loud roar and then said, "I'm sorry that you couldn't get out of there, but something unavoidable happened." Then to everyone's astonishment, the Zoroark started ranting at Evin as it started calling him a jerk with telepathy that was broadcasted to everyone about how he had kept her lock up in that ball for five days.

Once Zora had finally finished letting off some steam on Evin, she finally took interest in her audience, as she turned towards them and snapped, "Quit staring! Or you'll go blind!" Ian smirked and almost laughed, but the fact that he was face to face with a powerful angry dark type pokemon that was immune to psychic attacks, kept his mirth at bay and was in his eyes quite scary.

Latias hid behind Ian and told him with her telepathy, "This person is not normal. He's too powerful to be only human." Ian took her comment into consideration, but wasn't about to judge Evin for it. He glanced at Jace who had already gotten back up, but was still clutching at his sore head and could tell that aside from his splitting head ach, he was very upset about having his memories gone through as if he were nothing more than a living information booth.

Ian Finally spoke up, "Though we don't know who you really are, we don't have time to waste right now. Something is about to happen at Slateport and we need to hurry." Evin just said, "OK, that's rather obvious that something bad is happening over there, but could you really spare some food for my pokemon and me? We haven't eaten in like... what? Five days? I can pay you back later if you want."

Ian sighed and took his pack off; he rummaged for a moment and then tossed Evin two breakfast berry bars and two small bags of pokemon food. Then after closing everything back up, he put his pack on and wondered if he should change back to his true form while in the presents of this other person and his dark type pokemon.

He had read Jace's mind, so he most likely knew about his and Latias's secret and asked, "So what are you intending to do now?" Evin looked up after downing one of the breakfast bars even as Zora pigged down her bag of pokemon food and said, "I'm going to go beat the crap out whatever it is causing so much anguish near here. Even from here I can feel the torment of the people it is killing, not to mention the mob of darkness traveling with it."

Ian looked him over and said, "But how do you intend to get there? Run?" Mouth full of berry bar by this point, Evin just tossed the remaining ball in his hand and out popped the biggest legendary fire dragon Ian had ever seen. Jace nearly swooned as he hysterically let out a quick babble about being in the presents of Reshiram. Ian was somewhat amazed as well, but he didn't recognize this pokemon.

Nera made her amazement known to Ian as she said in awe, "That boy's inner power and radiance surpassed us all on his own... At first I though it was the legendary Reshiram in her ball, but now I can truly see that it is completely him. I don't know what he is or how he has so much power, but if he is on our side we should be nearly unstoppable when we face this Revenant."

Ian nodded and watched as Evin opened the last bag of pokemon food and offered it to Reshiram. Reshiram nodded and opened her mouth a bit lower to Evin and let him dump the bag in, where it all disappeared in one swallow. Evin then disposed the trash into one of his pockets and called over his shoulder, "So, am I leading the charge? Or are you?"

Ian honestly didn't know what to think about what was to come next, as his plans from before meant hardly anything now that this kid had arrived; so giving himself a mental shrug, he just decided that he would just have to make it up as he went. Ian smiled and said, "We will lead." With that said, Latias and he shifted forms as Jace called Nera back to her ball. Once Jace and Gardevior where back on Ian's and Latias's backs for more air travel, Ian's team was the first to take off up into the air heading towards Slateport.

Evin recalled Zora and hopped onto Reshiram's as she reared her head back and roared as she began to flap her wings. She quickly took flight as she gained altitude and began to follow the Ian's team as she closed the gap between them. Evin was rather intrigued in how Ian could change forms, but at the moment there were other things to think about, like where was Dawn and Rika? And how in the heck did he get into this mess.

***

The good news was, that the flight only took about a twenty minutes; the bad news was that they could now see what they were up against. The Revenant had somehow gotten both Team Rocket (Evin's all time least favorite team at the moment) and Team Galactic to join forces in one massive blitz against Slateprot City.

From the chaos Evin could discern that the city was nearly entirely destroyed and that the rangers and police were failing to get themselves organized. After a brief glimpse of the situation at hand, Evin told Reshiram to do her best to devastate the enemy forces that were trying to reinforce the other team members that were already in the city so that she wouldn't catch friendly people in the cross fire.

Ian, who was only about fifteen feet ahead of Evin in pokemon form, caught wind of what Evin was planning and tried to get his attention. But Evin wasn't looking up at the moment, as he studying the ground below and had not asked Reshiram to land. Then to Ian's astonishment, Evin jumped off Reshioram from almost sixty feet up in the air and landed right in the center of the fray. Ian then watched with curious bewilderment as Evin hit the ground rolling and came back up with a fist as he slammed a Team Rocket member across the field.

After knocking his first opponent about twenty feet in the other direction, Evin lost track of where Ian and the others went as they had continued flying further into the city. It was utter chaos on the ground; rangers and police fought to keep from being cornered or separated, while both opposing teams were just simply overwhelming them with sheer numbers.

Evin could sense that there was a massive evil presents nearby, that was waiting for some kind of conclusion to this battle, and he could tell that it didn't care who won. Evin began his attack by first freeing up some help by blasting away team members with aura spheres that had people cornered. He started at the south east side of the city and started to make his way north as he searched for survivors.

Most of the people he freed however in his search to find help in this mess, were either badly injured or terrified beyond all understanding, and if they didn't run away once they could, they just plain weren't that much help. The few that still had their wits about them, Evin ended up having to put to getting the others to safety while he was still taking the brunt of the many attacks directed at them.

Fortunately the teams weren't using many physical type pokemon and were mostly keeping their distance with energy attacks, as Evin had rendered any who did get too close to his barrier unconscious from psychic jabs to their minds. Evin hated not having Rika around, he knew that she was already aware that he was awake, but he couldn't feel much else from her.

Then just as Evin was in the middle of saving his fourth group and sending them to safety with more survivors, his heart skipped a beat as he saw three members of both organizations have six pokemon fire simultaneous hyper beams at him. Evin crouched down as best he could and condensed his shielding to only himself and braced himself from what was coming as he was not sure his barrier could deflect such a team attack.

Bright light was all Evin could see as he looked at the ground and concentrated as the attacks all hit at the same time. Evin felt himself slide a few feet back, but then he never heard his barrier break and nor did he even feel the pain of being hit. When he looked up, he saw that the six members were looking up with astonishment as the beams had been deflected upwards to explode high above the city.

Evin could see cracks in the still visible barrier in front of him, so he decided that he either got lucky, or that his barrier was just stronger than he thought. Seeing his moment of opportunity though, while the members were still dazed from their amazement, Evin rushed in quicker than the men could say "Look out!" when they noticed him.

Using his momentum and one of the members as an emergency break to stop himself, Evin hit one of the more burly looking members square in the chest with both arms. But what Evin hadn't been expecting was that he hit the member so hard that he felt the man's ribs break before the momentum was transferred to the man as it sent him crashing across the ground.

The weakest looking member peed his pants and the other shouted, "What are you!?" Evin just smiled darkly as he rushed the next person and said "Your worst nightmare." Each went down with either a single blow to the head or the gut, but then Evin had to deal with their enraged pokemon up close and personal.

The first was an ursaring, with its fangs bared it charged and swiped at Evin with its long claws. At first Evin's instincts told him to be afraid, since it looked so much like a real bear from his world that he momentarily forgot where he was and jumped back as if he were afraid.

The ursaring took Evin momentary jumpiness as a sign of weakness and charged in on all fours as it intended to use crunch on Evin so it could have a midday snack. But what came next was a complete surprise. Just as the bear was nearing its target, which was around Evin's mid section, Evin uppercut the ursaring below the jaw so hard that the bear's head literally snapped backwards over its back.

The ursaring's body stood and thrashed for a moment before falling to the ground and that's when the other five all decided to charge all at once. Evin by this time had already regained his wits and blasted his first attacker with an aura sphere. From there everything became dodge and evade, as he worked to not get chomped. He weaved between their snapping jaws and ducked or jumped over their swiping claws.

Finally when Evin had managed to get them all tangled on top of each other from dodging them so much, he just powered up a large aura sphere and blasted the lot of them all at once. The five that had charged at Evin were blown in all directions and were finally down and not getting up, but while Evin had been kept busy, the relief effort he had provided for the rangers and police had faltered.

More members of Team Galactic and Rocket had closed in around the final group that had been caught out in the open and were jeering at the frightened people as the two teams closed in around them. The pokemon from a few trainers, the rangers, and police were already down and even some were dieing as they watched helplessly as the teams had closed in around their companions.

The pokemon had all fought valiantly before receiving more injuries than they had ever endured in their lives, but they still struggled and cringed at the thought of being captured by the evil people who had forced them into submission. Evin could sense all of these fears and thoughts within both the people and the pokemon and it was only now that it finally dawned on Evin that the people were at just as much risk of being captured and enslaved as their pokemon.

Evin's point of frustration was reaching its limit. Using his psychic powers like a giant donut shaped fly swatter; Evin slammed all the members and pokemon of the two gathered teams down to the ground. Now while that had at first seemed like a good idea, it wasn't.

Evin swayed from being dazed from such an action, which had now left himself vulnerable. Though on the good side of what he had done, the psychic blow had knocked all the members of both teams to the ground all at once. Some had broken wrists, a few others had either dislocated or sprained arms, but with a lot of anger now directed at Evin, they were all able to stand back up and glare back at him.

Evin stumbled backwards with his vision going blurry as the first of many attacks were deflected off his aura barrier, but many more members and pokemon were already charging in to meet him head on. But then just before he was overwhelmed by the stampede that would have run him over, Reshiram dove out of the sky and snatched Evin up out of the fray before unleashing a blast of liquid fire at the pokemon and team members who had now stopped their charge.

Members and pokemon alike ran around in complete chaos as many that had been caught in the direct furnace of the flamethrower from above were now on fire and burning to death. Reshiram then used her psychic powers on the remaining pokemon and members that surrounded the trapped people and pokemon to make them all fall down holding their heads as they screamed in torment.

Seeing their chance for freedom, the people who were still able jumped up and began helping others get to safety whilst returning any pokemon that needed saving to their balls. Reshiram took Evin high above the city away from the fighting so that he could rest for a moment, and using her mental powers she helped him to regain his senses and told him, "You need to quit trying to take down so many things at once with your powers. You know you can't handle using psychic attacks well yet, as this isn't the first time you've been dazed from doing something like this."

Evin clutched his head from the headache he now had and responded back, "I didn't see much choice. The people were trapped and things were about to get wor--..." The words died in Evin's mouth as he witnessed the next stage to the turmoil.

Ian had just relieved an executive of Team Rocket of his worldly worries and now as the man's blood was pooling on top of the massive legendary Groudon's head, it began to go berserk with both blind rage and confusion. On the other hand to this chaos though, after everyone had seen Ian kill their leader right before their very eyes, Evin and Reshiram watched as both Teams of Rocket and Galactic broke formation and started feeling into the nearby forests away from anything that might hurt them.

Reshiram landed next to where Ian had landed after trying to return the groudon to the master ball that had been used to capture it. But the legendary was out of control and couldn't be called back or caught since it was still technically still a captured pokemon. Evin hopped off Reshriram's back and said, "What did you do? Without the master that thing is going to go ape and finish leveling the city!"

Ian frown as he said, "I thought it would return to the pokeball if I just recalled it, since all it wanted was to be freed from the executive's control." Evin shook his head and said, "It was a good sounding theory, but in this case that's not what's going to happen. Do you have a heavy ball I can use?" Evin's last question was the last thing in the world he thought he would hear and he said, "Why do you need something like that? It's an already caught pokemon, it can't be caught again."

Evin smiled and said, "In most cases that would be true. But I'm not most cases. Now do you have one or not?" Ian sighed with exasperation and dug one out of a pocket and tossed it before asking, "So what do you intend to do?" Evin smiled again and said, "Oh not just me; you. You're going to help me with it. We need to weaken it as if we are trying to catch a wild pokemon, and then you will see why." Ian sighed wearily and then said with sarcasm, "Oh joy."

Evin was the first take off after the groudon, and as he approached it he shot its tail with an aura sphere to get its attention. Groudon roared with anger and frustration just as Ian caught up to Evin and then it unleashed a thunderous earthquake that started to rip the ground Evin was standing on to shreds.

With an exasperated sigh, Ian grabbed one of Evin's arms and picked him up off the ground as he levitated away from where the quake directly hit with enough groundbreaking force to level a city block. But then as soon as the quake was over, Ian he dropped Evin like a sack of potatoes and with Evin now out of his hands, he ran off to the right and shot an aura sphere of his own at the raging behemoth.

The sphere hit in much the same way Evin's had and only angered Groudon more as it now tried to smash Ian flat with hammer arm. Groudon's attack missed, but hit the ground with such force that it made another mini earth quake. Since Ian wasn't levitating at the moment, he lost his balance and came to a skidding stop on his arms and knees just as Groudon started to use solar beam.

Remembering what the Revenant had told him in his dream, Ian thought he was about to be obliterated by the attack and turned to his side to shield himself with his arms. But the moment the beam was about to be launched Ian saw Evin appear in front of him and he yelled, "Are you crazy! Get out of here!" But Evin paid him no heed as the attack was launched.

Ian thought this would be the end of them both, but was astounded once again by the strange boy in front of him, as he held his ground and had an aura shield deflect the beam back at their attacker. The solar beam grazed Groudon's right shoulder and finally caused it to roar in pain as it used its left paw to grab its shoulder.

Ian stood up with another rather bewildered look on his face and Evin nudged him with an elbow and pointed to Groudon's left leg and began to form a large aura sphere. Following Evin's lead, Ian did the same. Both fired at the same time and when the two spheres hit Groudon's leg was knocked out from under it, causing it to come crashing down onto the ground with another small earth quake.

Now that he finally had the chance, Evin enlarged the heavy ball that Ian had given him and charged it with the snag machine's power. Ian watched with amazed festination as the ball in Evin's left hand began to glow brightly as small sparks began to jump, then in a flash Evin threw the ball.

Evin wasn't exactly the best left hand thrower, but all the same he launched the ball with as much accuracy as he could manage. The ball sored threw the air quickly before it hit its mark at the side Groudon's recovering form, and when the ball made contact, Groudon dissolved into ruby light as it was sucked in. The ball wiggled like crazy for moment after moment as both Ian and Evin watched with anticipation, and then just about the time that both thought that the heavy ball would break, it finally clicked as it made the all-clear sound.

Even as the master ball in Ian's hand shattered to pieces, he was speechless, and slightly afraid and appalled of what Evin was capable of, as he himself was a pokemon and still didn't completely understand Evin's motives. But then his thoughts of Evin were drowned out as they both felt the evil force of the Revenaunt's presents wash over them.

Evin himself showed adverse affects to being in the presents of such evil and collapsed to the ground holding his head in pain. Since Ian was for the most part a pokemon, he was less affected by this evil pressure and endured it with little more than a grimace as he felt his adrenalin kick into high gear again.

The dark form of the Revenant materialized from the shadows and in a way to mock Ian as it formed, it made a silent gesture of clapping as it said, "That was an excellent performance, I will simply never tire of watching humans die in the manner that you ended that wretch's life. Your skills and powers are impressive, but they are still infinitesimal to my own. Thus I wonder how it is that you of all people were destined to defeat me. That thing groaning in pain beside you, I could understand if he were the prophesized one; but you? You do not possess anything that is necessarily a threat to me."

Ian stood there and glared at the specter wraith-like form that boasted of its superiority as it wondered as to how he could ever become a threat. Ian himself also still wondered that very same thing as he could feel just the presents of its power already trying to force him to summit. Then Ian did the one thing he regretted; he tried to sense the being's mind.

The moment he did this, Ian immediately became aware of the mental struggle Evin was having with the Revenant as it battered at the boy's psyche. Some of this power struggle spilled over into Ian's mind and he felt as if he might drown in something so evil, as he mentally heard the screams and cries of millions within the echoes of the Revenant's sharp penetrating mind.

Ian immediately withdrew his probe and shuddered as he now realized that the Revenant was still watching him closely with a devilish smile distorting its features. Ian could tell that it found great joy in the torment of others and was to no end pleased with itself from having shown Ian what it had been doing to Evin since the moment it had arrived.

Ian yelled, "What are you trying to do to him?!" the Revenant laughed at his question and said, "He poses far too much power to go unchecked. I am going to break him and enslave him to my will, so that the world itself will be doomed to darkness and I will rein supreme over all, as it is only a matter of time before this child's mind breaks." With its plans to break Evin's mind revealed, Ian launched his all out assault on the Revenant even as Nera, Gardevoir, Reshiram, and Latias all watched from a somewhat safe distance away.

The Revenant laughed as all of Ian's attacks blasted through it as if he were no more than an apparition made of smoke. Aura spheres, psychic attacks, dragon claws, and even ice beams had absolutely no effects as they simply passed right through it. Then it launched its own attack as a massive wave of darkness burst from its location.

Evin's aura shield seemed to be working on its own, but Ian was caught in the open and knocked across the yard as he suffered a lot of damage. The Revenant cast a mildly annoyed glance in Evin's direction and shot a bolt of pure shadow at him. Ian started to try to intercept the attack, but the Revenant then shot a myriad of other attacks at him like blades made of pure darkness and more bolts of shadow. The shadow blades left Ian lying on the ground sliced up and bleeding profusely through shallow wounds and the shadow bolts had battered at his body until it hurt to even move a finger.

The bolt that had been shot at Evin was deflected by Evin's barrier once again and when the bolt hit the ground not too far away it blasted everything in its path apart. Moments later, Ian was surprised to see the Revenant's expression change to anger as he felt a small shift in power in the area they were in. Then he saw Evin stand up with a beat red face from the pain he had been enduring as he wondered if the Revenant had succeeded in doing what it had said it would do.

Evin was standing with his hands still clutched to his head when he yelled, "Get out of my head!" Ian felt an influx of power the likes of which he had never experienced. Everything near Evin was distorting and being crushed from the energy that was bursting forth, and over the sounds of these distortions Ian heard Evin yell again, as he ordered Reshiram to attack the Revenant.

Ian honestly wasn't sure what another legendary could do for him as all of his own attacks had gone right through the dark figure. But when Reshiram moved in he felt another surge of power pulse through the area as Reshiram powered up her main fusion flare attack. Ian blocked his eyes for a moment as a flash of fire enveloped the Revenant, but then to Ian's astonished delight, for the first time he heard the Revenant give an aggravated growl as it had been hit by the attack.

Ian moved his hands and what he saw made him smirk more. The Revenant was on fire and was enraged as it howled at Reshiram just as it launched a huge barrage of shadow attacks at Reshiram, attacks that Reshiram found hard to evade as she took a few hits. Seeing that he might only have a short window Ian picked himself up from the ruble he was in and as his left arm hung broken at his side he shot an aura sphere that finally hit its mark.

Then he had to evade more attacks as the Revenant took to firing at both Reshiram and himself at the same time. As they ran, Reshiram and Ian rained as many attacks as they could on the dark figure, but no matter what they did, it just didn't seem like they were doing hardly any damage at all and were just aggravating the Revenant more. Then about the time Ian could feel his strength waning after being knocked into the ruble of a building again, seemingly out of nowhere, Evin's Zoroark appeared and bashed the Revenant with foul play.

Unexpectedly the attack hit with such force that the Revenant was knocked to pieces, but this was only momentary as it melted into the shadows and reformed again. That's when it occurred to Ian that Reshiram and Zoroark made for the perfect team to fight the Revenant. Reshiram could disable its ability to pass through attacks and because of the Revenant's own seemingly limitless attack power, Zoroark's foul play attack becomes just as powerful.

After that, Ian found things a bit strange for a moment. Evin walked up to him and helped him out of his ruble pile and seemed to be doing fine now, but the Revenant had now fully reformed and was roaring in the wrong direct as it sent meaningless attacks into the empty countryside. It didn't even seem to have noticed that Evin had helped him up or that Reshiram was also recovering from the beating she had sustained. It didn't seem to even see any of them as it started to go on a ranting rampage only to try and block nonexistent attacks before laughing as it said that it didn't even feel a thing.

Ian looked to Evin and asked in confusion, "What the heck is going on?" Evin snickered as he said, "Zora has it trapped in an illusion. After being knocked to pieces, it gave her the perfect opportunity to trap it. But for now you need to get recovered. There's no telling how long it will keep being fooled. I just hope it's possible that it can tire itself out."

Zora in this time was indeed being pressed hard to keep the Revenant fooled, as it blasted large areas with exploding attacks and had to make her illusions seem like they were getting hurt. Attacks still rained on the empty expanse, but the longer this went, the more the Revenant seemed to be becoming aware as it stopped going all-out.

Evin shouted to Ian, "Beware! He's about to discover the ruse!" then just as the attacks stopped, Evin pulled out his dad's old trusty army knife and charged. Just as the Illusion was about to fall, Evin sunk to knife into the Revenant's face. Ian had nearly fully healed himself, but he was exhausted as he joined Evin on the battlefield.

Reshiram and Zora also took their placed as they made a triangle around the Revenant whom while having a knife buried in its face also had Evin perched on its shoulders as he still held onto the handle. With a great yank, the blade of the knife broke off in the Revenant's head as it took a swing at Evin with shadowy clawed hands. Evin grimaced as he looked at the ruined object in his hand and with a silent groan he tossed it away.

Now the battlefield was like a baseball diamond as Evin and Ian stood on opposite sides of the wraith like being that began to howl with laughter as the blade finally fell out of its body. Ian then starts the gang up attack by powering up an ice beam, Evin then with another aura sphere, and Reshiram with a fusion flare. All three launched their attacks, but just as they were about to hit, the Revenant released a powerful dark pules that ignited all three attacks away from it.

Then, just as the smoke was clearing, Zora came in on the Revenant again with foul play and once again knocked it to pieces, but before she could get clear, the shadows grabbed her and they all heard the Revenant's laughing all around them. The laughing was quickly silenced though as Zora used night daze and blasted everything around her.

After feeling that the shadows had released her, Zora retreated over to Evin, where they both watched the Revenant reformed with a snarl as it also sounded like the most insane person in the world as it shouted, "You damn little pests! I shall destroy you all!" Shadows enveloped everything and Evin crouched down with Zora in his arms as he felt the tug of energy being drawn from him to sustain the shield around them.

Ian watched with horror as he saw a pitch black globe of darkness envelope Evin's location, he didn't know what was happening, but he knew it wasn't good. Once again Ian put all his power into another attack to form psychic blades all around the Revenant and even as they were cutting the shadowy form to pieces he blasted it with an aura sphere.

Reshiram added to this destruction with another fusion flare and for the next three minutes, all they could hear was the groaning wail of agony, before it changed to mad laughter. Two dark spheres suddenly shot out of the smoking hole that was where the Revenant had been. One hit Reshiram and Ian tried to block the other, but the spheres hit them with such force that they both went flying. Reshiram went crashing into the nearby forest and Ian ended up in another pile of rubble against one of the museum's walls.

The Revenant gave a little chuckle as this happened and once again its form squirreled and reshaped back to how it originally was. Evin and Zora were still enveloped in the dark globe and now Reshiram was hurt just as bad as Ian and lost in the forest. Ian couldn't help thinking that this was the end, his eyes were already half glazed over from being so close to death.

The Revenant was just too powerful as it continued shrieking with laughter as it now said, "Well that boy is just full of surprises; I'll have to finish dealing with him once I'm done with you." And the Revenant gave Ian a cruel smile as it began to float towards him.

Then just as the Revenant had stopped in front of Ian and razed an arm to unleash another attack at point blank, Ian heard the sound of someone running. Ian was then surprised to see Latias in human form charging at the Revenant as she tried to kick it, but the Revenant simply batted her aside, sending her skidding across the torn apart pavement in front of the Museum.

The Revenant laughed again as it turned towards Ian with what looked like thrill on its shadowy face. Then he could hear its voice echoing in his mind from where he lie on the ground, even as he was panting and coughing up blood while more blood was running from the myriad of injuries all across his body.

The Revenant smirked as it said, "Pitiful pathetic creatures. Did you really think you would survive a true encounter with me? Even if I haven't gained my full strength yet, can you now see how futile your efforts truly are? And to think some vague prediction names you as being someone or something, as being able to destroy me. You all make me laugh so hard it hurts!"

The fight had barely begun, and it was already over; Ian felt that he had failed to even come close to the Revenants powers. The Revenant, apparently dismissing Ian as no longer being a threat at the moment, turned its attention to Latias, who was glaring at it from where she sat on the ground several feet away. The same place she had ended up after the Revenant had tossed her aside.

Her expression was torn between extremes of fear, rage, and the pain that was leaking across to her through her bond with Ian. No matter how much Ian was trying to hold it back, he just couldn't contain everything he was feeling anymore, and the Revenant was now advancing on Latias as he desperately tried to move.

Ian coughed up frothy blood as he struggled to move his body as he weakly yelled, "N-no..." and spattered the ground below him with crimson as he tried in vain to get up to his feet. The Revenant turned back towards Ian and laughed; a cruel cackling laugh that sounded like a long, drawn out scream of pain; that cold, cruel laugh that Ian remembered so well from his nightmare.

Once the Revenant stopped laughing, Ian heard in his head as it said, "There is nothing you can do to save her. You will get to sit there and watch as I slowly, painfully kill your mate, and then I will start in on you. I will rid this world of the foolish notion that I can be defeated once and for all!" Then just as it finished its monolog, shadows started to flow across the ground towards the Revenant once again, twisting and twining their way up the fringes of its robes and down its right arm to coalesce into an extremely long curved blade of pure shadow.

The Revenant continued to laugh as it turned away from Ian and back to Latias, as it slowly dragged just the tip of the blade along her side, leaving a long, shallow cut. Then Latias screamed as shadowy chains erupted from the ground and bound her in place tightly so she couldn't move.

"NO!!" Ian screamed as he felt her pain added to his own through their bond, and redoubling his efforts to get up, he managed to almost make it to his feet. But just before he could stand, shadowy chains erupted from the ground and slammed him back down and broke his already cracked ribs, causing him to yell as even more pain and blood burst from his body.

The chains bound Ian to the ground tightly as he struggled against them with all his strength, but the Revenant slashed Latias's side again, this time a little deeper, as it cackled with glee. Ian cried out again. "I SAID NO DAMN YOU! LEAVE HER ALONE, IT'S ME YOU WANT!!" He yelled as loud as he could at the Revenant as he continued to struggle mightily against the shadows binding him in place.

But all the Revenant did was turned around and look at him as it pointed a shadowy hand and had a gag of pure shadow cover Ian's mouth so that he could barely breathe, much less yell through. The gag was the foulest smelling and tasting thing ever, as it succeeded in keeping Ian's mouth successfully clogged.

Satisfied that he would not be yelling anymore, the Revenant turned its attention back to Latias and opened another gash, this one right along her cheek just under her eye. Ian yelled as best he could through his gag, as Latias let out another scream, but the gag contained all the sound and made him want to vomit from the taste in his mouth that was now coupled with the pain Ian felt from Latias.

Then sure that the Revenant couldn't stop him from yelling telepathically, Ian yelled again "I SAID, LEAVE HER ALONE!!!" To Ian's surprise, the Revenant actually flinched a little, and for the first time since their battle had begun, two burning, blood red dots appeared underneath the hood that were its eyes, as it said, "You are quickly becoming tiresome, Chosen One..." Hearing this, Ian struggled even more as the Revenant glared down at Latias and continued, "I think the time has come to end this pitiful female's life."

Ian watched with horror as the Revenant then raised its blade high and prepared to swing towards Latias' neck. But in the moment Ian thought the Revenant would swing, he closed his eyes and turned away, as he felt that he was unable to bear the sight of that evil blade beheading his beloved mate.

Retreating deep within himself, Ian first only found the rage from having seen the Revenant harm everyone around him, but then the rage was gone, swept away by a tide of overwhelming sadness; sadness for the world that he had failed. He was loosing hope as he believed that the world was now doomed to be plunged into eternal darkness, as his sadness for Latias and himself overwhelmed him.

Sadness for the future family he would never know that he wanted to have with Latias overwhelmed him, then he felt something else even deeper in his mind. A sort of stirring sensation suddenly began to expanded and grow exponentially as it becoming a raging torrent of power that far surpassed anything he had ever felt from within himself before. It exploded throughout his entire body and made him feel as if he had been hit with lightning.

Ian let out a loud cry as whatever power this was suddenly became yet more powerful. Ian arched his back and opened his eyes as he cried out, as time seemed to have once again slowed down or stopped entirely. He looked around in surprise as a bright light exploded from his body and obliterated the shadow chains and gag constraining him, turning them into shrieking wisps of darkness that slowly faded.

Feeling a strange, feathery weight all over his body, he felt an even stranger weight in his right hand, Ian looked over and gasped as he saw that there was a long gracefully curved blade of pure white light shimmering in his grip. Then his jaw dropped open in astonishment as he saw that the rest of his body was covered from head to toe in graceful shimmering armor, all made entirely of light.

Looking away from the strange sight of the armor and blade in his hand, Ian looked up at the Revenant standing poised over Latias frozen in time. With its arm raised to deliver the killing blow, Ian instantly understood what this power was for; it was how he would be able to save Latias and defeat the Revenant.

As time began to start moving again, Ian focused on the spot where the Revenant was swinging its blade towards Latias. Focusing entirely on that one spot, he felt a curious sensation. It was like how he imagined lighting must feel as it seared its way towards the ground, as he was suddenly standing right in front of the Revenant with just enough time to raise his own blade of light and block the slash of the Revenant's blade of shadows.

The blades met with a curious sound; a combination of a hiss and clear vibrant ringing that persisted and echoed strangely for as long as they touched. Ian glared at the Revenant as they crossed blades, and for the first time Ian saw what might have been a flicker of doubt in its stance, and to a very small degree, he felt fear in its aura.

Just then, as time resumed its normal pace, Ian yelled, "You will not touch her again!" through gritted teeth. Then Ian shoved against the Revenant's sword and the curious hissing ring of their blades began to fade into oblivion as the shove sent the Revenant skidding backwards across the torn-apart pavement. Ian growled at the Revenant as they now glared at each other now as equals. Light on one side and shadow on the other.

Before trying to do anything else, Ian turned back to Latias and quickly slashed through the chains that bound her to the ground, which caused them to dissipate with shrieking wails as they faded into nothingness. With Latias freed, Ian said to her, "Go. Get away from here. He's too powerful for you to stay here with me." Latias didn't look too happy, but she nodded as she stood up and kissed him before running back towards Slateport holding her injuries.

Latias joined the others that had been defending the city up until the battle with the Revenant had begun, where they all stood with completely shocked expressions. Rangers, police, and even the few trainers and pokemon that had been helping alongside the rest of Ian's group could only watch in awe as they saw powers far beyond them being wielded like toys on a playground.

Ian then turned back to the Revenant and started to slowly walk in its direction, his shimmering blade at the ready as he watched its burning red eyes. The Revenant growled as it began to yell at him, "You think you can defeat me? So you can manipulate light the same way I manipulate shadows and you can teleport like so many other Psychic-types. So what! You will never defeat me!"

But just as the Revenant finished, Ian took advantage of its moment of arrogance to use his new teleportation ability to appear directly in front of it and slash at its torso. Fast as he now was however, the Revenant was still faster. The Revenant simply melted into a pool of shadow that dispersed and flowed across the ground in a myriad of directions.

A mixture of aggravation and relief flooded through Ian now as the Revenant was finally running away, and he cursed as he calmly said, "If I can't defeat you and I never will, then why are you running?" Ian smiled though from seeing the shadows fleeing before him, because he now knew it had a weakness, as it was now obviously afraid of him. Or at least of the power he had unwittingly called upon, that much Ian had sensed from it's aura before it fled with the feeling of disgust.

Suddenly, Ian felt very tired, and he watched in fascination as the armor and blade shimmered and disappeared in a small flash of light. As the light dispersed, Ian put a hand up to his ribs thinking they were still broken as he gingerly pushed on them, expecting to end up coughing up more blood on the already blood-soaked ground.

But he was surprised when he felt no pain at all. He looked down to see that every cut, bruise, scrape, and broken bone that he had suffered had been completely healed, including his left arm, all without a conscious effort. Ian was so absorbed in what he was doing, that he was startled when Latias ran up and tackled him with a hug as she said, "Is it gone love?"

Ian smiled and hugged her back tightly as he started to heal the cuts along her side and the one under her eye before saying, "Yes, I believe it is. It's gone, at least for now..." Then Ian finally remembered about Evin, as he and the others all looked over at where the dark globe had consumed him and his Zoroark.

He distinctly remembered hearing the Revenant say that it would have to finish him once it was done with him, but he wasn't entirely sure what that meant as the last remnants of the shadows finally dissipated. Everyone now saw that Evin was on his knees holding his zoroark as his cracked shields finally began to fade, and Ian said to the others, "That kid from before, he has some massive power. He actually hurt the Revenant badly for a moment with something he did. He isn't an ordinary person... Not by a long shot."

Latias then attentively asked, "Do you think he's OK?" Ian grimaced and said, "I'm not sure. The Revenant was focused on breaking his mind so it could control him. So there's no telling what it did to him. Though from the sound of it, that kid stumped the Revenant good when it said it would have to take care of him after it was done with us... speaking of us, where is Reshiram?"

Everyone looked in the direction that Reshiram had fallen and saw smoke coming from the trees and wondered if she could have survived that blast. The others in Ian's group slowly filed over to where Ian and Latias were sitting, though none of them went to go see if Evin was fine or not as most were afraid to go near him. But Ian wasn't about to just sit around just because he was tired.

He got up along with Latias and they along with the others walked over to where Evin was being verbally slapped around and growled at by Zora where he sat for giving her no warning of the fight they had like that. She was feeling embarrassed that she couldn't even keep one single enemy trapped in her illusion for very long and she was busy taking out her frustration on Evin in her native tongue rather than trying to actually make him know what she was saying.

Evin rolled his head on his shoulders as he looked totally exhausted and mumbled to the others as they approached, "What in the hell happened? My head feels like a rhino has been sitting on it after keeping that shield up so long." The word rhino had just made everyone look at each other with confusion.

Evin just felt dazed as his eyes wandered around while looking up at the sky for a minute. For a moment he just imagined that he might have been back home and that everything that he had just been through had all just been just a dream. But when he looked down again, he saw Ian's group just standing in front of him and that they were paying him a disturbing amount of attention. Evin sighed and thought, (Back in my home world? No such luck.).

Evin's expression and stance was completely devoid of emotion and energy, as he looked them over before returning his view to the sky and said, "In a way, I sort of envy you all for being from this world, because at least you all mostly know what's going on. I on the other hand, am still asking myself the same questing since I first got here..."

Evin just felt so tired that he found just the thought of getting up was bothersome. In his head the world was still spinning, but at least that thing that had attacked them was gone. His eyes felt sore and he was sure that they must have been blood shot before Ian offered him a hand and helped him up to his feet.

Evin sighed and then the though seemed to finally come to him and he said, "Where is Reshiram?" Everyone just pointed at the smoking trees in the forest. Evin cursed under his breath and finally told Zora to be quiet, as her angry muttering hadn't stopped even after the others had gotten there. He then said, "Zora, can you go over there to see if Reshiram is OK? I do kind of not want to go for a walk at the moment."

Just then Zora refused his request and said, "Oh no! I'm not leaving you here in this condition! She will be fine until you can get up to go get her yourself." Evin just sighed, he had feared she might say that and started to try and see how sore he felt. But the moment he started to take his first step, he stopped and groaned from feeling his muscles stretch.

Seeing that his body was rather perturbed by the resent mistreatment the stress of the battle had put it through, he decided to try and just contact Reshiram via psychic telepathy. First he lowered the barriers around his mind that he had established after the Revenant's assault on his mind, and then reached out with his thoughts into the forest.

He quickly made contact with Reshiram, but her humiliation was what stood out above all of her other emotions. She had been tossed aside as if she had not mattered, so she was sitting on top of some trees she had knocked over during her landing deeply buried in her own thoughts and had hardly noticed Evin checking on her.

He asked if she was OK, but she was not in the mood to answer and just severed the connection. Evin sighed and said to Zora, "She's not in any immediate danger. Her pride seems to have suffered a harder blow than her body; so she just doesn't want to talk right now." Zora almost laughed at the thought of seeing the legendary dragon sulking after an embarrassing defeat, but then she thought she would have probably been burned to death if she had actually laughed about it.

A death wish wasn't something that excited her right now, so for now she pushed it out of her mind and asked, "So what do we do now?" Evin went back to having an emotionless expression as he tilled his head to the side and said, "For now, we just do what we have to until the ship that Dawn and Rika are on arrives.

Rika has already sensed my presents and has been forcing her thoughts across our link ever since. But after my resent fight with the Revenant, I think she's too busy going nuts to even know what's going on. Right now I also need an ice pack for my head; my brain is still feeling overwhelmed after what that thing tried to do..."
