Last Ray of Moon Shine

He was floating over a pool of water, surrounded by trees, little will-o-wisps gambolling all around. He rolled over in the air, enjoying the feeling of no restrictions that are associated with gravity. He looked up at the moon, basking in the bright light of its fullness.

He giggled, looking at the craters, imagining himself to be the rabbit on the moon, what with his fur shining bright and silver under it's light.

All of a sudden, a shadow began to fall across the moon. The moon slowly darkened till it was covered completely, the Will-o-wisps fading and disappearing with it. He frowned, floating there in the darkness, feeling sudden, intense fear.

The faint starlight was enough to see the startling changes going on around him. The trees seemed to be in a storm, the branches whipping violently, shedding leaves. A few even fell over, to be submerged by the water. Then everything calmed, the wind he never felt seemed to still. The leaves floating on the surface, drifted lazily in the twilight.

Then the moon began to reveal itself again, bit by bit. Though it too had changed, its silvery sheen was now tinged with a soft blue. The will-o-wisps, returned, slowly as the moon made its reappearance. The trees, those that hadn't fallen, calmed, sprouting new growth and small flowers. He felt calm and safe. He smiled, gazing up at the full moon...

"OOO EEE OOO AH AH TING TANG WALLA WALLA BING BANG OOO EEE OOO AH AH TING TANG WALLA WALLA BANG BANG!!!"

Mochi jerked up in bed with a yelp, very confused and struggled with his sheets, eventually falling to the floor where he struggled for a bit longer before he managed to free himself. He bolted up and ran over his computer to turn it off. He heard some giggling from behind his door.

"Dad you evil bastard! Were you trying to gimme a heart attack!?" He said as he pushed the door open a crack to glare at his father, who doubled over laughing his ass off. Mochi glared at him a few more seconds, imagining going over there to strangle him, and then closed his door, cursing himself for forgetting to lock it the night before.

He walked over to his dresser, just now noticing his morning wood. He was suddenly glad he hadn't gone after his dad, blushing a little as he decided what to wear for the day. Inspired by the dream, he decided on blue boxer briefs, a blue shirt with silver kanji all over it and some blue and white shorts. He tossed the ensemble onto his bed and headed to his bathroom, shedding his underwear on the way there.

He turned on the shower and let it warm up while he brushed his teeth. He hated mint, but the evil toothpaste companies didn't make much else. He quickly, but thoroughly brushed his teeth, spat and rinsed as well as he could, then went over to his shower which was quickly filling the room with steam.

He walked underneath the stream and sighed happily as the hot water soaked his fur. He just stood there enjoying the heat for a few minutes before he picked up his shampoo from it's niche in the wall and started lathering himself. He thought back to the dream he was having before his alarm woke him. He loved the dreams where he could fly or just float. He rinsed himself off, thinking about Damian. Wondering why he was acting so weird before he left. He shrugged, guessing Damian was just embarrassed about blowing off his friend to bang his girlfriend.

He got out, dried off and got dressed, heading downstairs for breakfast.

Damian was laying in bed, dreading school. He was nervous about seeing Mochi now that he knew his friend was gay. He didn't know what to do. He was afraid Mochi might try something. He shuddered, and looked at his clock. He jumped out of bed and rushed to get ready when he seen the time.

Mochi ran down the stairs. As he crossed the entrance to the kitchen, he was about to mete out a quick excuse to his parents to blow off break fast, he tripped and fell flat on his face at what he saw. His parents. Kissing! And he could clearly see his father's hand groping his mom's ass. His brain just clammed up. They jumped as they heard the loud thump he made, and turned to him blushing.

"uhhh... aren't you late for school?" His father said lamely, blushing badly.

Mochi finally overcame his paralyses and let out a long, "Eeeeeewwwwwww!" Then picked him self up. "Why were you doing that in the kitchen?! Other people live in this house you know!" He said. Then he noticed the digital clock on the stove. "OH SHIT! I have to go!" He called back at them, leaving them to their embarrassment, temporarily forgetting the incident as he rushed to his car.

He was all the way to his car before he realized he'd left all his things and his keys in his room in his rush to get downstairs.

"BLOODY FECKING HELL!!!" He screamed then ran back into the house.

Where he tripped again, though managing not to hurt his nose this time, as he glimpsed his parents in a new compromising position. Somehow in the twenty seconds he'd been gone his father's shirt had been removed and they were kissing again. Again, jumping at their son's noticeable thud, they turned to him blushing.

"What are you two?! Rabbi- oh blah, dumb thing to ask. Fuck! Never mind you two pervs, scarring your son, I'm bloody late!" He scrambled up the stairs, grabbed his stuff and his keys, and ran down again, bracing himself this time. He needn't have worried, his parents had gotten the clue and his father had his shirt on again. Though doubtless they were just waiting to hear his car start.

He quickly unlocked his car, tossed his stuff in the passenger seat, checking the time on the car's clock as he put on his seat belt. He started to panic a little as he seen he had about a minute more than it would normally take him to drive to school before class started.

He, got it going, and sped out of the driveway. He knew he'd have to speed a little to make it.

He sped along as quick as he could and arrived with five minutes to spare, silently thanking any deities there were that the cop he'd passed was eating donuts and hadn't noticed he was 30km over the limit. He chuckled over it as he got out of the car. Well, he thought to himself, All stereotypes do have a factual basis otherwise they'd not exist.

He leisurely made his way to class, still having a couple minutes to spare. He sat down in the spot he usually did. He was so caught up in his euphoria over getting away with it right under the cop's nose; he'd just noticed Damian wasn't in his usual place beside him. Slightly uneasy about his friend's absence, he jumped to attention as the teacher began the day's lesson.

Damian meanwhile, had been having a hard time getting himself to move. After the initial burst of energy that had gotten him into the shower, he became increasingly lethargic. He was dreading seeing Mochi horribly. He stood under the water in his shower for a long time, entranced by his thoughts.

How could I not have known?

Though no reason he could possibly have came to mind, search as he may.

Oh god... what if wants more from me than friendship?

He jumped when he realized what he'd thought

He's still my friend... I just...I dunno...

He punctuated that thought with a few thumps of his forehead against the wall, then jumped, gasping loudly as the water suddenly went cold.

Oh fuck! How long have I been in here? He thought to himself, realizing he hadn't even washed up. He gritted his teeth against the cold and quickly lathered himself up with shampoo and rinsed off, getting out of the shower as quick as possible, his teeth chattering a little. He dried off slower than he intended, relishing the warmth of the towels be fore he realized he was very late.

He went into his room and checked his alarm clock.

"Fuck me..." He whimpered as he seen that class had started an hour ago. He sighed and went about getting ready, still dreading facing Mochi.

Mochi went through his next class, still wondering idly why Damian wasn't at the first. He wondered if he'd be at his second, them not having that one together leaving him without such knowledge. He survived English, though he loved reading and dabbled some in writing, he hated the class.

Cheering inside as the bell went off, he vacated the room happily. He stopped by a window over looking the student parking lot to see if he could spy Damian's car. He noticed it way out in the back.

He must've slept in or something, Mochi thought, to have gotten such a crappy space and to have missed first period.

He shrugged and made his way to the cafeteria.

Damian meanwhile was leaning against the wall near one of the entrances to the school. He'd dithered and procrastinated as long as he could and forced himself to get there in time for lunch. Now he was internally debating on whether or not to go somewhere else for lunch to avoid Mochi in the cafeteria. He'd heard the bell go as he'd parked and the halls were packed with students heading to where ever they were supposed to be.

He whimpered, Oh god... I'd never be able to eat anything like this... He thought to himself. He sighed and steeled himself as he headed in. I can handle this. Mochi is my best friend. If he wants more, I'll just tell him no.

He was startled out of his thoughts as he heard his name called. He looked around and noticed his Metals teacher waving him over. His ears splayed as he remembered that he'd missed his class last period and walked over to see what was to come of his truancy.

Mrs. Reeves was a meerkat, and a diminutive specimen at that. She tended to wear denim overalls with some bland long sleeved blouse, and today was no exception. She was kind of dirty from class, and had some welding goggles on her forehead. Damian had always thought it weird that she was one of the Metals teachers in this school. You'd expect some male and a burly one at that.

"Where were you last period Damian?" She asked. She exuded a palpable aura of authority, the same manner and attitude that commanded attention and obedience during periods that dealt with dangerous equipment and projects.

"Sorry Mrs. Reeves, I was feeling really sick this morning. I'm feeling better now so I came for my afternoon classes." He said in as normal a tone and manner as he could, knowing she'd notice a quick answer.

Mrs. Reeves gave him a once over, noticing how haggard and listless he was. She immediately perked up to her normal happy self. "Sorry to hear that. I'll expect you to work extra hard to catch up though. See you... Your next period isn't with me till next week, right?" He nodded. "Hope you feel better kiddo, I'll see you next week." She patted him on the shoulder and was on her way.

Damian perked up a little, cheered up mildly by the lack of punishment.

At least until he turned around, doing so, he spotted Mochi heading his direction. All his resolve instantly snapped. OH FUCK! I can't do this! He screamed mentally and darted into the washroom as Mochi saw him and waved.

Mochi slowly lowered his arm in confusion when Damian ran into the washroom. Mildly worried about Damian, Mochi decided to follow. Damian had been absent this morning, maybe he was sick and for some inexplicable reason had dragged himself to school for the afternoon.

Damian went into a stall, locked himself in and sat down on the seat clutching his stomach. Oh fuck... please don't have seen me... please have been waving to someone else...

He heard the door creak open, and in an amazing moment of clarity, yanked his pants around his ankles to give himself a cover story.

Mochi opened the door and said "Damian? You okay man?" There was no answer and he leaned down to look for feet in the stalls. Figured the only closed door would have familiar spotted feet in it. "Damian man, I know you're there, what's wrong with you?"

He thought he heard a low moan, and then "Ummm... I'm just not feeling too good." He mumbled and then said, in a slightly hurried tone, "What are you following me into the bathroom for?"

"Well, you were missing this morning and I was a little worried about you. When you ran off to here, I thought you might be really sick or something and need a ride home." Mochi grinned to himself, thinking he'd embarrassed his friend by catching him with the runs. "If you're really sure you're okay, I'll just head to the cafeteria. See you then."

Mochi thought he heard a relieved sigh and didn't want to know what happened that the canine was making such a sound, before Damian said "I had something to eat before I came here, I'll go check in with Mr. Nolt. He'll probably keep me in for lunch. You know what a hard ass he is. I'll see you later."

"Kk, see you later man" Mochi giggled as he said that and left the room. As he neared the cafeteria, he read the day's special off their little notice board. Seeing that today was pizza, and they had pepperoni, his all time favourite, he increased his speed to a trot so as not to be late and miss out.

Damian sat on the seat, the cold of it having warmed even through his boxers by now, which he'd kept on. He was holding his stomach even tighter, holding back a few pained whimpers. When he'd realized Mochi wasn't going to let him off, he'd nearly puked all over the floor.

He sat there for several minutes as his stomach calmed, before pulling up his pants and zipping them. He went out into the hall, heading away from the cafeteria. He had no intentions whatsoever of seeing Damian anymore today.

As he walked past a mostly unoccupied classroom, he noticed that Loli in some short shorts and a tube top, totally violating the dress code. A couple of her friends were in there with her. Damian was glad to see her and entered the room, hoping to forget his troubled mind for a while. He stopped, getting a weird vibe from the scene before him. Both of Loli's friend's, a cheetah in a cheer leader uniform and a gazelle in a sexy little dress, boyfriends, a bull in a football jacket and a hyena with a bright green mohawk, were with them, and instead of sitting half the room away chatting together, they were talking with their girls and Loli animatedly.

Loli spotted him and waved him over from his position near the doorway. "Hey Damian! C'mere everyone wants to talk to you." She said, gesturing him to come sit down.

He came over and sat on the edge of a desk. "Ummm... Okay, what's up?" Something still felt weird to him.

"I was just telling them about Mochi. You know, how you told me last night you found out he's gay?" She said with a giggle and sat in his lap.

Damian numbly wrapped his arms around Loli and said "Y-you told them?" he asked, his voice slightly choked, as it suddenly felt like a basketball had sprouted in his throat.

"Yeah- wait, was I supposed to keep that a secret?" she said with a nasty smile, totally letting on that she'd blabbed knowing she wasn't supposed to.

"What does it matter? You're lucky you found out before he tried something. The faggot'll probably be kicked off the team. Tail raisers shouldn't be allowed in the locker room." Said the hyena, with a trademark laugh. "Hopefully someone will teach him a lesson."

Oh god... Damian thought to himself, immediately feeling horrible. What'd I do? Mochi's my friend...

"Something wrong hun?" Loli asked him, giving him a concerned look over her shoulder.

Damian came out of his daze, gulped and said, "N-not really... haven't been feeling so hot today. I think I'm just gonna head home. I shouldn't have come at all. See you tomorrow."

"Kay hun, give me a call later, k?" she said as she got off his lap and went to sit beside the cheetah.

Damian was already heading out, and said, "Yeah, sure." distractedly over his shoulder in response to her request.

He headed down the halls, vaguely in the direction of the student parking lot just thinking over and over. What have I done...

Mochi vastly enjoyed his lunch, practically inhaling the two slices he'd bought. Once he'd finished he dumped his garbage into one of the cans and left his tray in it's proper place on the pile on the lid.

As he made his way to his next class, Woods, he noticed that Damien's car was gone when he checked the student parking lot. He was a little worried about the dalamtion. Poor guy, hope he's alright, He thought to himself as he made his way to the basement where the Woods and Metals classes were held.

He made his way to his locker eighty minutes later, annoyed by all the sawdust covering him. He loved to make things but really hated all the dust it made. He would have been hacking up a lung if he hadn't worn the mask throughout class like most students did. He still coughed a few times when he dusted himself off, because of the ensuing cloud of sawdust.

He'd done the best he could to get it out, but his fur was still a shade off colour. He sighed and grabbed his books for the next class, World Issues.

He'd barely sat down when the fire alarm went off. He quietly and calmly left his stuff and shuffled out with the rest of his class, thinking it a drill. Though he wondered about that, though drills were supposed to be surprises, everyone usually knew when they were supposed to happen. He left the school with the masses and filed into the proper line with the rest of his class.

He wished they'd turn off the alarm, it was really bugging his ears. He sighed in relief as it finally stopped.

The teachers checked off students of their lists as the principal, a kind and friendly female red panda approached.

"Can I have everybody's attention please!" she shouted to be heard over the low buzz of conversation between the students. She waited a moment while most students quieted down and continued. "This was not a drill, but do not worry, your school is still going to be here tomorrow. It was a false alarm set off by smoke from the photocopier, which seems to have suffered a fatal malfunction. As per procedure, the school day is ended, please return to your classes and take your things, the buses will be here shortly for all students who use them."

She then left. The teachers began leading their classes away one by one. Mochi cheered to himself silently. He liked World Issues, but he was happy to get home early to properly clean his fur.

After Mochi had put his stuff away, he quickly made his way to his car and drove home, this time dutifully obeying the posted speed limits. He arrived home a good hour earlier than normal. His parents weren't home, not that he'd expected them to be, and he head in and up to his room where he quickly shed his clothes and jumped in the shower.

He sighed happily as he stepped into the stream of hot water, grabbing the shampoo and lathering himself up till he was a big frothy mess before rinsing. Then he stood under the stream, enjoying the heat. He loved the feel of the water trickling through his fur. He idly played with a nipple, and brushed his paw along his sheath and sac. He murred happily, but didn't go any further.

Mochi eventually stepped out and dried off, feeing very relaxed and peaceful. He made his way to his bed and flopped down, still naked, reveling in the delightful sensation of being clean. He snuggling up to his body pillow and drifted off to sleep.

He woke up a few hours later to the sounds of shouting from down stairs. He groggily got up and slipped on a pair of black boxer briefs, feeling more awake by that time, and starting to worry about what was happening down there. He quickly slipped on some comfy plaid pj pants and a loose green shirt and made his way down stairs.

The shouting had stopped by now, but his parents were still clearly agitated. His mom looked angry and like she'd been crying and his dad was pacing around looking absolutely pissed.

Mochi was a little scared. He'd never seen his parents so angry. It took him a few moments before he could work up the courage to say, "Hi guys.... What's going on?"

Both his parents jumped. Clearly, they hadn't noticed him. Then his dad said, "Your brother. He's dating some bitch. He's dating outside his species!" He ended with a shout, going back to pacing, looking, if anything, more pissed than before. His mother was crying a little, very quietly. He stared at them with wide eyes for a few moments before retreating to his room, where he quickly discarded the pj pants and shirt, before he laid on his bed staring at the ceiling.

He'd never known that his parents were against cross species relations. He was freaked out by how badly they were taking the news that their first son was dating a... come to think of it, his father hadn't specified what she was. He may have been referring to a canine since he said "bitch", or he could just be insulting her.

Mochi lay there and mulled it over for a while before he decided he should give Yuro a call.

He picked up his phone, a cool hi-tech cordless his brother had gotten him for Christmas last year, and dialled Yuro's cell. He waited while it connected and started to ring, heard it pick up, he was about to say something when it suddenly disconnected. He closed his mouth and gave the phone an odd look and dialled again. After a single ring, it picked up and quickly disconnected again. Her glared at the phone a tried a third time. It picked up halfway through the first ring, which was when Mochi took the opportunity to shout "Oi!"

"Is that you Mochi?" came his brother's confused reply.

"Yeah, why'd you hang up on me? Twice!" he asked, feeling a little annoyed.

Yuro gave a long, quite audible sigh before he answered. "Sorry li'l bro, thought you were dad calling again to scream at me."

Mochi felt himself flush a little. "Oh," he said lamely, "sorry, I shoulda guessed, Mom and Dad are freaking out. I was taking a nap and shouting woke me up. Dad yelled something about you dating out of species and Mom looked really angry and she was crying a little..."

Yuro sighed again. "I was talking to Mom like normal, and she managed to finagle it out of me that I have a girl friend. I told her that her name is Danica and she's a bat from New Orleans. I heard Mom gasp and then she asked me to repeat that, I could tell she was pissed. I heard her talking with Dad a few moments before he took the phone. He screamed at me for a while. Saying at how I was a shame to the family and that if I ever wanted to be welcome home again that I'd break off ties with her and apologize to them. I... I kinda yelled back at him..." Mochi heard a small sob and realized Yuro might be crying. "I had no idea they felt like that..."

Mochi opened and closed his mouth a few times, trying to say something, but it felt like a golf ball had sprouted in his throat and he couldn't get any words out.

"Dad said... He said they never wanted to see me again... that I'm out of the family..." Mochi could tell definitively that Yuro was crying now. He felt a few tears running down his face as well, he hated hearing his brother in so much pain.

Mochi make a small, strangled sound as he finally managed to speak. "Don't worry Yuro..." he managed to get out before he stopped for a moment. "I'm sure they'll calm down..." He listened to his brother's sobs. They slowly became less frequent. "Are.... Are you gonna be okay?" He asked after the Yuro had been silent for a minute.

"No... I mean, yeah.... eventually... you know I love you, don't you Mochi?" He asked, his voice seeming a little less brittle and despondent.

Mochi gave a weak laugh. "Course, I love you too Yuro..."

"K, I'm gotta go, I'll take to you later. Take care li'l borther."

Mochi had the feeling that Yuro was smiling. He wiped away his tears and replied, "Kk, talk to you later Yuro." Mochi heard him hang up, did so him self and put the phone back on its stand.

Mochi lay there for an hour, thinking about the events of the last couple hours. He eventually decided to stop worrying about it for the night. He was a little hungry, but didn't want to leave his room. He just snuggled up to his body pillow, pulled the covers over and went to sleep.
