#3 of Coming of Age

Allison sat in the library waiting impatiently. A few hours ago her brother had returned to the castle and she wanted to see him badly. She looked up at the clock and then got up from the chair. She stormed over to the library's doors and banged on them.

"Let me out of here!" she screamed impatiently. She then kicked the door out of frustration then stomped back to the chair by the fire place.

(The castle infirmary)

Brian was in shock of what his father had just said. He looked at his father in disbelief.

"Draco ... he's ... my Grandfather ...?" he asked. He suddenly felt very sick in the stomach. His father stretched out his tail slightly. His human and dragon like features making him seem like a demon. His father gave him a small glare.

"That is correct ..." his father stated. He the reached down and grabbed his son, Brian, by the fore arm and roughly pulled him up from the infirmary bed. He squeezed Brian's arm slightly

"Dad .... stop that ... that hurts ..." Brian whimpered slightly.

Then his father did something he didn't expect. He gripped the young man's arm tighter and then tossed him across the room. Brian's body flew through the air before hitting the far side wall.

"Don't you dare call me that again!" Shadow shouted. "From this day forward you are no longer my son. You aren't even a Godlin anymore!" The adult continued. Shadow then walked over to a small glass orb and taped on it slightly. It glowed and then a face appeared.

"Yes sir?" the face said.

"Captain Samson?" Shadow asked

"Yes sir your majesty. What is it you wish of me?" Samson asked.

"I want you to come up here and take Brian to the top most tower of the castle!" shadow stated. No emotion in his voice.

"Um ... your majesty ... I don't understand ..." the captain got a worried look on his face.

"My son has failed to slay the dragon for his coming of Age Ceremony. As of today he is no longer my son." Shadow stated; again, no sign of emotion in his voice. "You are to lock him in the up-most tower of the castle. There you will find a cot, a dresser, a bared window. You will remove his hospital clothing and then redress him in the clothing in the dresser of the room. After you leave the room you will lock it. He will never be allowed to leave that room. Is that clear, Captain Samson?" shadow asked after stating his order.

"Um ... Yes sir." Samson said. The orb cleared and soon foot steps could be heard outside the door.

(the Library)

Allison was now reading a book, one from Brian's special area of the library.

"Why does brother find these creatures so interesting ...?"

She continued thumbing through the pages until the library doors finally opened. She looked up and saw her father. Smiling, she jumped up from the spot she was sitting and ran over to him. She was going to as how Brian was but stopped when she saw the look on her father's face.

"Father... what's wrong...? You seem sad ..." she asked. And it was true, her father did have a look of sadness to them, or so that's what it seemed.

"Your brother ... is suffering from a disease ... he's dying ..." he stated.

Allison gasped slightly, her brown eyes widening with shock and fear.

"Dying? How is he dying?! Is there something you can do? Anything at all?!" She asked franticly.

Her father looked down at her.

"The disease was given to him by the dragon he was sent to slay. Only if the dragon dies can your brother survive ..." he stated. No emotion showed in his voice.

"Well, send someone to kill the damn thing then!" Allison screamed franticly.

"Only someone related to the dragon's victim can kill the dragon that caused the disease. I am too busy running the kingdom to go on an adventure, and your mother is in another kingdom bothering with a peace treaty. So the only one who is capable of doing the deed ... is you ..." shadow stated.

Allison stared at her father in shock. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

"I'll leave tomorrow morning ..." she stated. She then walked out of the library and headed to the training arena of the castle, to practice up on her rapier and magic skills.

~I will slay the dragon... I will save my brother ... I have to! ~ She thought to her self as she walked down the hall way.

(Tower)

Samson sighed slightly; he had just finished dressing the young Prince in his new clothing. A pale grey tunic, black shorts, and a white ribbon to tie back his long hair. The former prince had a shadowy look in his eyes. Samson sighed a bit, gently placing his hand on the boy's head.

"Young Price ... I am so sorry this had to happen ..." the captain stated. The former prince said nothing; he walked over to the barred window and looked outside. He could see the mountains where Draco's cave was.

He looked up and noticed a rain drop fall down. Soon it began raining. The captain of the guard was silent as he watched the former prince watch the rain.

"The sky ..." Brian said.

"Hmmm ... What's that?" Samson asked.

"The sky ... it's crying ..." Brian said. And after that he just stood there, looking out the window, watching the rain fall. All the while also looking towards Draco's mountain.

The captain was speechless then left the room, locking the door behind him as ordered by the king. He began walking down the stairs heading for the main body of the castle.

(in the training yard)

Allison continued training with her sword, despite the rain. She was bent on training as much as she could that day before setting off for the dragons cave tomorrow.

"I will kill that Dragon, and I will save my Brother!"

Draco paced in his cave on his hind legs and in his tiny form. His father lay, normal sized, on the ground further inside. Draco shook his head angrily and pounded his head into the wall. It was only thanks to his thick skull there wasn't a concussion, although a few bats hanging on the ceiling were frightened from their perches.

"I never should have done that. WE never should have done that. Now Brian's hurt and the only person who can save him is the one person I could never get along with." Drash watched his son walk back and forth, feeling some sympathy for him.

"I can't really say I know EXACTLY what you're going through right now, but I know the gist of it. Don't blame yourself. You couldn't have known this would happen." Draco shook his head.

"I know, but I still feel bad! This is almost like the time I raped that village woman by accident." He shivered, then lay down, returning to normal size. "Why did I have to give the Baron two weeks...?" He said, mostly to himself. He stared out of the cave entrance, looking towards the path from the Godlin barony.

Brian sat on the bed within his new room. His hair was a mess from tossing and turning in his bed. He had constant nightmares from what had happened the day before. But he didn't bother saying anything about it; after all he was alone. After thinking a bit, he lay back down in the bed and began to sleep.

~+~

Allison had just finished packing for the journey to the dragons castle. She had been training the night before, but she wasn't tired at all. She had used a spell on her to keep her wide awake. The spell would keep her wide and awake with lots of energy for the next 3 days. After packing her bag, she grabbed her sword and left the castle. She had done it in secrecy so the castle staff wouldn't know what she was up to. She headed for Draco's cave with murderous intent.

Draco woke up that morning. He yawned, stretched, then looked around. ~Strange. This is earlier than when I usually wake up... ~ He stepped towards the entrance of his cave, shrinking as he stepped, to see what the morning held.

~I wonder what could have woken me. ~ He looked out towards the Godlin Barony, then looked closer. He saw a small figure coming towards his cave on a horse. ~God damnit, he couldn't even wait? He already sent someone ELSE after me? ~

He shook his head and returned to true size. Stepping onto all fours, he stretched his neck out and roared. The roar echoed throughout the hills and mountains nearby.

~Let him come to me after that! ~ he said, mostly to himself.

He turned around and walked back inside. His father had been lying next to him, but had woken up. He rubbed his eyes with one hand. "Nnnnggh... I heard your roar. What's up?"

Draco shook his head in irritation. "Baron Godlin sent another knight after me." His father's eyes widened and his brows contracted into a frown. He opened his mouth, but Draco interrupted him. "Don't say it. I know what you're going to say, and I still say this is my problem, not yours."

Drash closed his mouth for a second, then spoke. "But you should take care of that Baron if he keeps sending knights after you! And if not that, at least let me take care of the knight!" Draco shook his head and began pulling his father towards the entrance of the cave. "But.. but..." Draco just shook his head again and shoved his father out.

His father, not wanting to land on the ground and possibly hurt something, took off. Hovering before Draco's cave, he said, "Fine, Draco. But you remember what I've said when you have a sword in your eye." Draco just waved goodbye with a combination of sadness, irritation, and exasperation.

As he walked back inside to prepare, he sighed, smoke pouring from his nostrils. "Damn that Baron..."

As Allison rode towards the cave concealing the dragon she herd a very loud roar filling the sky, but it didn't faze her. She continued riding, the rapier in her right hand, the horse's reigns in her left. She soon came to the dragons cave entrance. She dismounted her horse and began walking into the cave. Her upper body was covered in armor, along with some shoulder pads, as well as metal gloves to protect her hands. Among her bits of armor she also wore very feminine articles of clothing; a skirt made of silk with hip pads placed into the sides of the skirts pattern. She also wore knee high metal boots. Over-all her outfit was to show the dragon she was a female knight. After all, what's more humiliating that a dragon being slain by a woman? She walked further into the cave, sword in hand.

"Dragon, show your self!" she shouted

Draco was slightly surprised. After that roar, about half of the nobles sent after him turned back.

What surprised him more was the fact that this human seemed to be female. Aren't females supposed to scare easier? Draco wondered. He shrunk down and walked quietly through the tunnels to the entrance cave.

Once he got there, he looked around the tunnel entrance. He saw the girl approaching the tunnels, rapier in hand. Geez, now he's sending girls after me?! Draco was shocked. That Baron would stop at NOTHING until he had Draco's head on his wall, apparently.

Draco backed up a little to gain the use of the echoes of the tunnel. "What do you want here, girl?! Has the Baron run out of men to send after me?" He sounded a lot bigger and scarier than he was; hence the point of the echoes.

When Allison heard the voice of the dragon she stopped; not out of fear, but anticipation.

"Hear me now Dragon for I will only say this once! I am Allison Louise Godlin, daughter of the Baron Shadow Godlin, sister to the boy you nearly killed! Because of you my brother is slowly dying, my father says that only your death can save his life! For the sake of my brother I shall slay you here and now!"

Her voice echoed through the caves. Soon silence followed; she waited for the dragon to reply.

Draco stood against the wall as his breathing increased. What?! He's dying because of me?! He thought to himself. But then he shook his head.

Wait. That Baron will do anything to get people to kill you. Still breathing slightly hard, Draco replied. "Well here's what I say in return; firstly, my name is Draco, not dragon. Get it right. Second, what did he tell you? If you haven't noticed, he doesn't like me very much. From previous circumstances, I would even go as far as to say that he would lie to get someone to try to kill me."

Allison glared at the tunnel Draco's voice came from.

"I don't give a damn what your name is, and don't you dare tell me my father would lie to me! Family never lies to each other and we never keep secrets from each other. I trust the words of my father, over the words of a dragon."

With that, Allison removed the glove from her left hand and took her sword with her right. She tilted her sword so the point would face down, then took her left hand and griped the base of the blade with her left hand. Soon her blood could be seen sliding down the blade of the rapier, soon dripping off its tip. Her blood then glowed a crimson red, and soon the blade of her sword is covered in a transparent red blade covering her normal sword, increasing its length by an extra foot.

"I will kill you right here and now, and my brother will live!"

She gave him a deep seated glare, daring him to say something else.

Draco closed his eyes and sighed. He stepped from the shadows of the tunnel. ~Best to fight in small form; saves space. ~

He looked the girl in the eyes. "Believe me, I don't want to fight here. I don't want to fight at all. I just want your brother to be alright. But if you're absolutely sure that killing me will save your brother..." He crouched in a fighting stance. "Then you'll have to fight for the right!"

With that the pupils of his eyes flattened out, like a tigers. He was fighting for his life now.

Allison said nothing, she took a swift battle stance, waiting and watching the dragon for movement. When it appeared that the dragon was going to let her make the first move, she made her move.

She dashed at the dragon at high speed, to the point her body seemed to blur out of focus; she was using her magic to increase her speed. Only after a few seconds of kicking off the ground, she appeared in front of Draco, only a foot away from his body. Instead of using her sword, she spun around in the air, using the velocity of her speed to perform a powerful spinning Bottle kick, aiming for Draco's skull.

Draco bent over backwards, letting the young noble fly overhead. He turned and jumped after her, gliding overhead. His claws flexed as he reached for her leg.

Allison cursed under her breath as the dragon had ducked under her kick. She could feel the dragon griping her leg; thankfully she had on leg armor. Still, she did brace herself for what the dragon might end up doing to her while holding her leg.

Meanwhile back at the castle, Brian sat on his bed in the towers room. He looked down sighing, feeling very depressed because of what was happening. He got up and walked over to the towers widow.

"I wonder how Draco is doing ..."

He sighed again heading back to his bed, but then his bedroom door opened abruptly. The Captain of the guard, the one who had locked him up, had appeared in his room. The man walked over to him and then placed a brown bag into his hands.

"What's gong on?" Brian asked.

"I'm getting you out of here." the Capitan stated. "The king is acting odd, locking you in this tower, and now word has spread through out the castle that he's sent your sister after the dragon!"

Brian was shocked by this. Nodding he clutched the bag.

"How are we going to get out?" he asked.

"I'm going to take you through the servant's entrance; all the knights and servants in the castle know what's going on. Many will attempt to keep your father busy so he won't notice."

He led Brian down the stairs quietly; the sun was setting and it was growing dark. After walking through many corridors and passage ways, he was soon led outside and escorted off the castle grounds. After having been taken about a mile from the castle, Brian looked over at the captain of the guard.

"What will happen when father finds out?" As they had escaped the castle, Brian had been given a brown cloak to wear to cover himself, as well as a hood to hide his head.

"You and your dragon friend must hurry and leave this part of the kingdom, where to, you must figure it out for your self. I shall wait here to escort your sister back to the castle when you send her down from your dragons cave."

Brian nodded. Bag in hand, he ran up the mountain, hurrying to the cave before something bad happened, to both Allison and Draco.

*back at the cave*

After he had gotten a hold of Allison, Draco spun her around in midair and threw her.

Luckily for her, his aim was off due to the spin, so she landed in the pile of straw Draco had gathered for Brian's return.

He sucked in air, preparing for one of the biggest spurts of fire in his life.

He was going to end this.

When Allison had been sent flying, she had the misfortune of getting rammed into the wall over the straw bedding before landing in it. She was unconscious and lying face down. As Draco prepared to burn her shouting could be heard outside the cave's entrance.

"Draco!!!!! Allison!!!! Stop!!!!"

It was Brian shouting as he ran up the forest path. He had been running for up to 20 minutes without stopping, wanting to get to Draco's cave as soon as possible. Brian could be seen wandering into the caves entrance, looking exhausted. He saw smoke pouring from Draco's mouth and a black spot on the ceiling.

"D ... Draco ... A .... alli ... son ..."

He fell to the ground, passing out from pure fatigue.

When he heard Brian's voice, Draco had turned his head and instead released his flames at the ceiling. He peered through the smoke and saw Brian falling to the ground. ~Brian! ~

He rushed over and caught the human boy just before he hit the ground. He picked up Brian in his arms and held him like a baby in his arms. Big tears were falling from his eyes as he hugged Brian to him. "Brian, thank the heavens you're not dying."

His heart jumped up into his throat at that point, making him unable to speak. ~I'm so happy you're alive, you wouldn't even know, Brian. ~ He laid Brian down next to his sister on the bed of straw.

After removing Allison's armor and sword, Draco lay down to sleep around them, comfortable knowing that there wasn't much Allison could do to him at her age.

Brian and Allison lay there sleeping soundly. The sun set, then eventually rose. When sun light shone into the cave, Brian sat up stretching. He looked over towards Draco, seeing he was in his larger form. He went over to Draco's head and began to gently pet it. Meanwhile Allison stirred in her sleep, then suddenly shot up awake and alert. She looked around wondering what was going on. She noticed that Brian was sitting next to Draco.

"Brian ... is that you?" She asked as she approached him. She was now only in her blouse and her skirt now that her armor had been removed. "What's going on, what are you doing here ...?"

Brian smiled at her. He stopped petting Draco and got up and gently took his sisters hand.

"There's something I need to tell you." He said while escorting her to the caves entrance. There they sat, Brian explaining everything to his sister, but telling her everything in a way to keep the fact Draco was there grandfather was a secret. Soon they were walking back into the cave just as Draco was waking up. Brian then went over to Draco hugging him around the head, his sister giggling slightly; she was glad to see her brother was happy.

Draco woke to find Brian wrapped around his head. He thrummed in happiness, his whole body vibrating.

He pulled Brian away for a few seconds so he could shrink, then pulled him close again. "My god, I thought I'd never see you again! I was so worried, and then your father sent your sister after me..."

He looked over at Allison. "No hard feelings, right?" Before she could answer, Draco shook his head. "No worries. Your stuff is over there." He gestured with his head.

He picked up Brian and put the human on his back, between his wings. He looked over his shoulder at Brian. "How about telling me what went on while you were gone?"

"A lot of things happened, Draco... and they will continue to happen so as long as we still live here..." Brian said with a sigh. It felt weird to him being with Draco right now. After all this dragon was his father's father, making him Brian's grandfather. He wasn't sure if he should tell him. After a few moments of thinking he decided he would tell him, but only when he felt the time was right.

While the two talked, Allison went and gathered up her armor and picked up her sword.

"Well I'm going now ... you two ... stay safe ..." she smiled and left the cave whilst Brian and Draco continued talking.

"Father was upset that I failed to slay you ... says he doesn't even consider me his son anymore ... he's going to continue attacking you as long as you live near the castle ... I was thinking ... maybe we should leave ... move somewhere else ... I don't want to wake up one morning to find you dead Draco ... so I'd rather not stay here ... but ... it's your decision on whether we stay or not ..."

Brian hugged Draco from behind as he hung there suspended between Draco's wings

"Whatever you choose ... I will support it ..."

Draco nodded and growled slightly when Brian told him about the father problem. He had waved Allison off and was standing at the cave entrance, watching her ride off. "Well. It seems like there's only one choice, really." He set Brian down for a second as he expanded to full size. He then placed Brian back on his back and held Brian's clothes in one hand. "We're moving, Brian. We're going somewhere no human has ever been and no human shall ever go, except you. It's called Dragonhaven. It's a valley in a ring of mountains. This valley was blessed by dragons of old, when we still had the ancient, lost magic. No one and nothing dies in that valley and everything is provided for those who live there." He looked back. "You ready?"

Brian smiled and held onto Draco, his fingers wrapped around some spikes sticking out of the back of Draco's neck. He then nodded his head.

"It sounds like the beginning of a whole new adventure ... I'm exited ... all my life I spent in a library filled with stories of dragons ... and now I get to go live with one ... it sort of feels like I'm in a fairy tale ... but ... yeah .... I'm ready Draco. Let's go!"

Draco smiled. "Good. But it'll be a few minutes." He left a message for his father before gathering up his wanted possessions. He picked the bag up in his front claws, then took off, making sure Brian was in place.

Draco flew for hours, stopping for breaks ever hour or two. After 12 hours, he and Brian reached their destination. A circle of pure white mountaintops surrounded a humongous valley with surprisingly little snow inside. ~Gotta love the ancients. ~ Draco thought to himself.

The valley had been set to stay in time with the outside world. So when it was summer, the sun beamed down on the grassy hills. When autumn rolled around, the leaves would change colors and fall to the ground. And when it was winter, there would be snow piled on the ground at least three feet deep. Currently it was spring, so there were many flowers everywhere that almost glowed in many different colors.

Draco glided down slowly, searching the caves as he went. He wanted a low sitting cave; Brian would need to be able to get in and out without worry, right? Luckily, dragons on the whole were more likely to choose a high cave, so there were many to choose from.

He finally glided into a cave and set down his bundle. "Well, Brian. Here we are. Home sweet home." He looked back to see that Brian had fallen asleep. "Heh. Never mind." Draco yawned. "I think I need a nap as well." Draco lay down near the back of the cave, Brian still draped over his neck, and fell asleep.

Brian enjoyed the trip for the portions he was awake for. Eventually, he fell asleep as they were about to arrive. Despite being asleep, his hands held tightly to Draco's spikes, breathing softly as he landed, dreaming of the great times soon to come.
