#1 of Reb Memoirs

The first of my "Reb memoirs". Sorry if there is any punctuation, grammar, or spelling errors, this is really my first time writing and I miss things a lot. If y'all like them I'll put some more out. Tell me what you think!!

The wind swept across the tundra, bringing a bitter wind with it. The darkness lay like a blanket over the terrain, masking the carnage from the previous month's invasion. Blood, sweat, and tears all shed in the hopes of bringing freedom to the oppressed people of Kajikistan, whose dictator was slaughtering his own people. The invasion force was blessing to the natives who craved for peace throughout their land.

I did not much care about the politics of the war, just that I got a damn kill tonight. I watched the frozen tundra that lay out in front of me from atop a building. My sniper hide was doing a mediocre job at keeping the wind off me, while I was doing an amazing job at keeping the wind off my spotter who had fallen asleep next to me. The butt of my TAC-338 sat firmly in my in my shoulder, eager to be fired. As I began to count the pine trees on the hill to the left of us for the tenth time I confirmed there were still twelve. "Good," I said quietly. "The fucking things haven't grown legs and wandered off."

"Could you keep it down?" My spotter mumbled, still with his eyes closed.

"Well hey there Sleeping Beauty! How was your nap?" I Replied

"Pretty good until some asshole started talking to his self."

"Well I usually talk to my spotter but he apparently got a bit comfortable and fell the fuck asleep!"

"Sorry Reb, you just make a good windbreaker." He said as he finally opened his eyes.

"I'm glad I can be of service, Danny."

Just then, I caught a bit of movement in the distance. I looked through my scope to see two figures moving through the trees on the hill across from us.

"Snow leopards, they're wearing Kajikistani uniforms. The ROE says their fair game," Danny whispered as he looked through his spotting scope.

"Range it." I said sighting the soldiers in with my scope.

"563 meters," Danny Replied. "Wind right to left, approximately 5 miles per hour."

I adjusted my scope and placed my finger on the trigger, "Set."

Danny paused for a moment, "Send it."

The bullet leapt from my rifle striking the rear soldier under his right arm, he collapsed immediately, dead. The leopard in front dropped to the ground, looking for where the shot came from. I cycled the bolt chambering the next round. I continued to watch him for maybe two minutes before I saw him grab his buddy and try to drag him into the trees. I sighted in once more and fired. The round took just over half a second to reach him. His head exploded in a red mist, scattering his brain across the snow.

"Grape shot confirmed at 565 meters, nice work Reb," Danny said patting my back. "Its official 132 confirmed kills, you are a badass dude."

"I get that a lot," replied grinning.

"Okay, don't get cocky asshole; I've seen the mighty Johnny Reb miss on occasion."

"Unfortunately for those bastards in the snow it didn't happen tonight."

"Don't you think it was a little mean poppin' the guy while he was dragging his buddy?"

"It may have been Danny but we don't get paid to be nice, we get paid to be mean."

"We are some ice cold, rock hard, mean mother fuckers then."

I looked through my scope again; the sun was rising behind the hill. The new morning light illuminated the tundra in a warm glow. The soldiers lay lifeless in a pool of red. I could see the steam rising from their still warm bodies. I stood up and basked in the sun then looking at Danny I replied, "You know what Danny we are some mean mother fuckers, we really are."
