#5 of The Draconian Story

No Conflict No World

After they had a great party held that day (with a very bad reception from the neighboring post 43), Richard went back to Juagar's home with the dark green draconian. Now Richard wasn't complaining about Juagar's bad driving since he was slowly adapted to this world while leaving his old world behind. For two weeks, he worked only to slack off and watched violence on TV (to which Richard at first became agitated and thought he was involved into it since he WAS experiencing them as real, not fictions). The movie called 'Gretchen Vairson' was the Guards favorite.

"Whoo! That's one hell of a movie!" said one of the draconians when Richard was making a coffee (he could operate the machine after Seiglet teach him). Richard also watched the movie, but at the end, thought it was boring enough, especially the dull quote Gretchen said, "You expect me to spare you? Fuck...YOU!!!" The character also always said that accompanied with an exaggerated explosion behind him.

Outside the post, where he only saw Union Guards sparing and relaxing instead of drilling themselves up like militants, he drank his coffee in the cold base. Orozco who had just come back from a patrol, saw Richard, and sat beside him.

"It's almost winter, so of course it's cold," said Orozco. "Have you signed the patrol duty yet?"

"Where is it?"

"It's behind the front door, that's why it's obscured. Damn, the Union Guard wasn't supposed to slack off like this. We're having an unstable truce with Northorno."

"I'm thinking the same thing too. Say, Orozco, what is the weapon you're holding?"

"You mean you don't know a Carbiner?"

"No, what's that? I never use one."

"This baby is one of the automatic rifles used by Elite forces. I chose M4 because it's stable at hand, aside from AK's, but it was expensive, so I don't want to break this thing. It had been 3 years since I joined the Guard, and this M4 had been with me ever since."

"Well, if you have time, you can teach me to use it."

"You?" Orozco laughed a little. "Seiglet couldn't even use guns, even arrows. He was a martial art teacher, so he primarily used close-counter combat."

"Yeah, but I can use arrows."

"Really? There's a shooting range east from 44. See if you can."

But, the arrow wasn't the normal wooden bow string arrow Richard usually used in his world. It was with a scope, heavier, and had a stabilizer to prevent misses, and possibly to prevent the string's vibration to affect the accuracy. Richard tried not to ask and shot his first arrow in this world, with a bullseye.

"Damn luck, man," said Orozco. "But I bet it does not gonna happen many times."

But Orozco was wrong. What he didn't know was that Richard had enhanced slit eyes of a dragon, enabling him to use precise shooting without any scope. Draconians wasn't able to use this ability since their eyes were limited to a normal lizard's, but since Richard was a hybrid draconian resembling an anthropomorphic dragon, he sported many ability seen in dragons.

After ten arrows, Orozco finally convinced himself to believe Richard was a multiple weapon user, something rare in 1020 (most draconians in Milsteir used only one weapon as their specialty, so a character using multiple weapons was considered a pro).

"Whoa, now I believe ya. You're one rare shit, you know that? Not many draconians can use two weapons at the same time."

"What? But this is one of the methods of survival. You kill enemies in distance by arrow, and if they got closer, your sword will take the role."

"So, you used that standing in your arrow training?"

"Not really. It's just for survival means."

Orozco then trained him in using rifles, but not his M4, as Orozco thought Richard was too careless. He borrowed him a G36 from the post's armory. But, what Richard didn't know was that the G36 wasn't the same model with M4, so of course by watching Orozco shot, he couldn't follow it.

In the evening, after they were allowed to go home and change the guards to the night shift guards (post 1 to 22), Seiglet approached Richard when the golden draconian was wearing his new Union jacket because of cold and cleaning the lounge. He asked for a coffee, and after Richard made it, he said, "I heard from Orozco that you're good in arrows."

"Well, in my place, that's a common thing."

"Can you teach me a little, mate? Next day, of course."

"Yeah, of course I can. But in turn, you can teach me how to use that tail swap of yours."

"Oh, you figured it out? Blimey, I'm not that quick anymore, isn't it?"

Both laughed when the white blue draconian smirked. After a while, they walked outside and told Juagar to go home early because he and Seiglet wanted to go around the suburban district with Richard. Unknown to Juagar, Richard was taken by Seiglet to a strip club called 'Dragoness's Den' where inside, they were greeted with laser lights, people partying, and some female draconians having a very seductive dance (according to Richard, who knew these females were prostitutes), but also, because they were dragon-like, he suddenly lost interest for his interest was still intact with humans.

While watching a stripper, Richard was contacted mentally by Engrak, and he saw the dragon was beside Seiglet. Thinking it was real, He tried to tell Engrak to hide, but then he also realized Engrak was a soul inside his blade, so he stopped after three tries (also because of the sound). He went to the back of the club, where the sound wasn't that loud, and said, "What the hell are you doing?! I'm almost thinking that you're real!"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, Richard. Look, this is serious. You're exposing yourself!"

"What do you mean?"

"Those...half-dragons started to believe you're from another world! I observed many draconians whenever you're around, and I realized that YOU are the only one not using any shoes!"

"Then what? That's normal for a dragon, right? It's how it's formed..."

"But that's not supposed to be in this world! Look, you need to leave the previous world behind. Don't take Ray's problem into your account. He's dead."

"I'm trying to leave the previous world, but I am only two weeks living in Milsteir, while I had lived so many years in that world. I'm 55 now and..."

"No, you're not 55," interrupted Engrak. "Due to the dragon treasure curse, your age slowed down and you're still young. Also, because of inter-dimensional effect, your half-poisoned body must adapt to this world, and it ultimately stopped the curse from changing you to one of us. But, the main problem is that before you reached here, you had grown tail, horns, ears, and also your legs became like our back legs. Those are irreversible. Also, by time, your humanity will disappear and it will be replaced by draconic senses, including many senses you'll gonna find in this world. You'll be attracted to those...sexy dragons, you'll eventually had bestial part, and you'll eventually lose your human friends."

"But, I can't come back, right? Ray gave the best decision..."

"Not again, Richard," interrupted Engrak again. "The organic metal machinery was Ernest's, so Ray's parts were merely a copy. Because the copy was unstable, it needed the grip of Ray's soul to prevent it to explode. Now, because he died, the grip was undone and a powerful black lightning explosion occurred, and those black lightning had black hole effect, causing those hit by it would be sent away to another dimension. You're the nearest person to Ray, so you got hit by the stunning electricity that made you blacked out, but I managed to see some dragons got hit before we went into the portal and into this world.

"Also, I can't communicate with you for these times because my soul was too weak to talk mentally. All I can do was to lend my last ounce of electricity to aid you when that ambush happened. Hell, I wasn't supposed to do that."

"But they believed my attack was an EMP blast," said Richard while ordering a 'malt'. "You did have a great portion of strength, but why didn't you use it to talk to me and to prevent embarrassments?"

"Mental is different with element, Richard! Look, I need you to stay calm, don't mess around, and that was beer, not malt! This is not a tavern, you fucking idiot!"

Richard corrected the order by saying beer, with the bartender became confused of his behavior. After a while, the bartender returned, and said, "Here, first shot. See if you can handle this."

While the draconian drank, Engrak started to talk again. "This world is one of the nearest dimensions to earth, so of course you were blasted to this world with me. Seraphor, Avila, and some of the unlucky order members managed to flew away, but they were hit by it right before we went here. So they would have never returned also, so they would go on with their new-found lives in some world, and..."

"But, this is Sera and Vila's case," said Richard. "They're lovers, they've mated, and of course they're expecting off-springs. Oh, I can't believe his death took too much problem."

"At least it's not your problem. Oh, I think your friend found you. See you later."

After Richard turned, he found Seiglet standing with some female draconians, possibly the strippers. After kissing them, he sat at the stool and ordered a drink for both of them. When he left, Seiglet turned his head to Richard and said, "You don't find this interesting?"

"I don't know what to say. For the last seconds I was thinking about conflicts and stuff. You know, in my belief, war and everything painted the world. It's like art, given by ancestors to us."

"Hey, hey, mate. Don't believe in those. We're trying to have a peaceful truce with Northorno, not destroying them. Here, take a shot."

After the golden draconian drank it, he asked about how often Seiglet went into this place. The white blue was a party-goer so he went to this place pretty often off-duty, usually with group or without group. Most of the post loved the place, except Juagar who was married, Viglerne who got photosensitive epilepsy (something weird for a draconian), and Phekova (the small mute draconian who tripped Richard in the previous chapter) who was very sensitive to bright lights, especially laser lights. Also, some draconians in the post tended to do some love advance with the strippers, and sometimes in an inappropriate ways that made them kicked out of the club.

"So, basically, mate, they're not appropriate to this place, and most of them are drunk...hey, what the hell?"

Richard was drunk, but after taking 15 mugs of beers, which startled the bartender, another draconian beside him, and Seiglet. The golden draconian was wobbly, and he was also murmuring words commonly seen in drunken draconians. But it wasn't relevant.

"Hey, I'm seeing things, man...," said Richard in a drunken state. "Whoa, that's one huge head you got there, Raithorakh."

"Hey, who's that? Hey, wait a..."

Suddenly Juagar was beside him, stopped Seiglet, and whispered to him, "I think this is the best time to found his origins, Seig. Just leave him be."

"No, he drank 15 shots!"

"But he doesn't look like he will gonna die."

"No, look at the table!"

"Yeah, I think its...holy God! This is not 15 cups, Seig. This is 15 mugs! He's going to be intoxicated!"

"Hey, Seraphor. It's nice to see you again, huh? How that...one night with Avila?"

Seiglet was mistaken to Seraphor, so he pushed Richard away, but the draconian said, "Aw, come on, I'm your friend....Is your wings okay now? I'm not using my sword to cut them. Hey, watch that fire! I'm burning!"

"Richard, Richard, hey! You're exposing yourself to them! Why the hell did you drink 15 big cups of beer?!"

"Shut up, Engrak! You're making me baaad..."

"Who's that?" asked Juagar.

"It's my sword, Engrak. Oh, look, he's standing there beside you. Hey...."

"Oh, goddamn it," said Engrak.

"Why? I found ya now, my friend. Hey, your back legs somewhat...big."

"Okay, this will make my position worse. Just go to sleep."

"Whey...I'm not gonna...what with that electricity?"

"This is not the bad idea for a drunken half-dragon like you."

"Half-dragon? I'm a human, Engrak. Just because I had dragon tail and horns, that doesn't mean I..."

Sudden electric shock made Richard surprised, but instead of becoming sober, he was fainted and fell on the bar stool. The bartender, who heard everything, thought the draconian was too drunk after drinking 15 big shots, but was lucky it didn't draw any attention to the crowd. After Juagar explained everything to Seiglet, he told the bartender to give the draconian a message, and to wait until he woke up.

In the dream, Richard was inside his hut at the forest depth, but in his half-mutated form (based on the mirror). Outside, Ray was waiting for him for somewhat a long time.

"Hey, sleeping beauty. It's almost midday," said Ray. "I have been waiting since...uh, 3 hours ago."

"Wait, I've just slept!"

"Maybe you're sleeping inside your dream. Come on, Sera is waiting."

Richard got up with a grunt, and realized he was dreaming. When he mounted Ray and the golden dragon lifted off, he asked, "Hey, Ray...it's about Seraphor."

"Yeah, what happened to him? It's just three days since you met him. He was having hard times, you know, being left by a new-found friend."

"Much like Esmier...hey, did you give him a proper cremation? I know dragons aren't supposed to be buried."

"It wasn't me. Riant did it since he was a fire dragon, and a high-standing dragon in the Order. At least both can rest in peace. Anyway, are you supposed to be awake right now?"

"No, I'm awake now."

"This is a dream world, and you slept enough."

Right after that, the scenery before they reached Dracokin blurred, and another somehow known sound was heard. He was back into the strip club, but now the song became more soft-toned, and he was a draconian and sleeping with his head on the bar. A man's voice woke him up, alongside a shake on his body. When he was awake, he saw the black red draconian bartender beside him.

"Hey, son, it's one in the morning. You've been sleeping for 8 straight hours. Here, have a glass of water."

Richard realized how thirsty he was and grabbed the glass. He drank it in an instant and sudden freshness came to him as if he was never drank for days. He thanked the draconian, and said, "How...how could this...place open until this late?"

"Yo, this place is open 24/7. You're an outsider, right? In Milsteir, this place opened forever. Here, there's a note left for you. My friend told me to give you this when you wake up."

The message read: Richard, this is serious. You're drinking 15 mugs of beer, and right now you must be intoxicated. I don't know what is your liver made of, but those mugs will kill you in an instant. Now, if you're reading this message, get back to my house, and we'll talk this drake to drake, understand? There are many things I want to ask you. Regards, Juagar.

"15 mugs?! Am I in heaven?"

"No, you're not. You're one super-draconian, dude. You drank those, and what you got was just like a draconian drinking 5 mugs. Why did you drink those?"

"Uh, I took the mug in front of me when I was talking to my friend, so how much was it?"

"No need, son. Jax told me your friends paid the 15 mugs. You really are a beggar...from the look of your undergarment. Hmm...a Union Guard. Don't tell me you did a ruckus in here?"

"Uh, no?"

"I was kidding, son. Here, take your sword. It's on the table. Luckily it wasn't taken by other guests. See you later."

After bidding goodbye in an unusual way (waving his hand over his head while turning, instead of simple thank you), Richard walked to Juagar's home in the cold night, watching the night stars, murmuring.

"I wish...I wish this world will not fall into deep darkness like where I originated. If this truce lasts, I wish I can see those Northornians as friends, not enemy," said Richard. But he smiled and said, "But maybe that's just a hollow wish. There's always no peace. Because this world is formed with conflicts. Damn, I'm starting to get Engrak's wise words."
