The Depths - Leilani's Comic Book Adventure
I'd forgotten all about posting this until today. ^^
I've had a lot of people ask me, "Who is Leilani? What exactly is she? Where is she from? Does she have a story of her own?" Wonder no longer after you read this exciting "teaser" of a much larger comic-book project I've been toying with for the past almost 4 years. The late Rusty Haller (God rest him) and I had plans to bring Leilani to the comic-book world one day. He loved the idea of Leilani as a celebrated diver-for-hire in the South Seas, during the 1920s and 1930s. But...she had to have a back-story, something to bring her to this life she now lived. What follows is that back-story. :D Since this is in a comic-book script form, you'll have to imagine the scenes a bit, but if you've followed my writing all this time, gentle reader, I'm sure you can imagine quite well. ^^
Word of caution: This gets a little bit violent and extreme, and you'll find something very dark in Leilani's life.
There's a lesson here: Do not cross her. ^^

...
Panel 1: The deep blue sea. Fish in a variety of shapes and sizes swim peacefully in and out of a colorful reef.
Caption: The depths of the sea. Endless, beautiful, a myriad colors combining together into brilliant hues of blue. So peaceful and tranquil...
Panel 2: A dark shape suddenly zooms past the fish, almost too fast for the eye to follow. The fish are startled and scatter in a hundred directions. All that can be seen in the confusion is the tip of a thick tail after a displacement of water, causing a froth of bubbles in its wake.
Caption: And yet...
Panel 3: Alex Decker, a large, handsome husky with short dark hair and white fur swims naked past the now-silent and empty reef, a puzzled look on his face, his blue eyes squinting as he tries to follow the trail of bubbles ahead of him.
Panel 4: Alex braces his hands on one of the reef's rocks on the bottom of the sea, looking around him wildly, cheeks puffed in an obvious struggle to hold his breath now.
Panel 5: Closer image as Alex is suddenly knocked backwards in a hard burst of bubbles, arms flailing, as the same dark shape from before hits him dead-on.

WHUMMPH! BURBLE!!
Panel 6: Alex is flat on his back on the sandy ocean floor, looking up in surprise at LeiLani, a dark-haired island beauty of a sea-otter, naked except for a bright red lei around her neck that barely covers full tanned breasts. She straddles atop of him with a smile on her face, pinning his arms down with her webbed paws and hugging her legs around his own.
Panel 7: Closer image as LeiLani leans her head down to Alex's face to give him a kiss, eyes closed, suddenly filled with desire for him, her long hair tangling and billowing over his chest.

BUBBLES
Panel 8: Close up to Alex's face, which is really showing a lot of strain now, and his cheeks are turning an interesting shade of crimson, perhaps partly because of reciprocated affection - but the husky very clearly needs air.
Panel 9: Split-panel - Left - Close up to LeiLani's face, her green eyes opening, showing concern at first and then...
Split-Right - Her face shows sudden realization, her eyes becoming wide, a few bubbles slipping free from parted lips.

Panel 1: Wide image as LeiLani and Alex swim back up quickly past the reef, hand-in-hand, the otter-girl's tail snugging around the husky's waist for extra support. Her face shows a look of determination as Alex's cheeks turn just a bit redder, the strain of breath-holding intensifying.

MMPH-MMRRPH!!
Panel 2: The couple burst from the surface at the same time, gasping, their heads thrown back as they both suck in air. Alex's eyes are closed as he coughs some water out. LeiLani's hair is tossed back in a huge rooster-tail effect, splashing.

GASP!!!
Panel 3: LeiLani looks at Alex with a mixture of worry and amusement, almost nose to nose with him. Alex is over his coughing and a warm smile is on his face, his eyes lidded. His arms are draped over her shoulders loosely, gazing into her eyes.
LEILANI
Are you alright? I-I didn't realize we were down there so long!
ALEX
My dear, time just seems to fly by with all that beauty down there to admire...
Panel 4: LeiLani has a sheepish smile on her face, looking over her shoulder as she moves a few feet away from Alex, swimming back towards the shore.
LEILANI
You have all the beauty you could ever need with your lovely Denise...
Panel 5: The playful otter's tail slams against the surface of the water as she leaves the scene, sending a sudden splash of water over Alex.

Panel 1: Alex reaches the shallow surf as a few waves are breaking behind him, cast in alabaster glow as the moonlight hits them. The dripping-wet husky pads naked up to the beach, water running down his chest, belly and sex.
Panel 2: LeiLani poses on her side in the sand, arm propped, shapely legs curled up, smiling. Her long, wet hair has become a make-shift blanket for her body down to her hip, and her lei has come off - conveniently.
Panel 3: Alex grins down at the otter, kneeling down beside her, placing a large fluffy towel over her legs. She looks up at him, smiling gratefully.
ALEX
Can't have Spontoon Island's greatest diver catching cold now, can we?

Panel 4: LeiLani looks pleased for the meaningful attention, sitting up in the sand to press closer to Alex, her breasts plumping against his side, her smooth legs touching his belly and groin. Her webbed paw touches his chest.
LEILANI (whispering)
Come with me to my hut...?
Panel 5: Split panel - Left - Close up to Alex's face, looking dreamy, his blue eyes showing a little twinkle, and a delighted smile on his face. Split-Right - Close up to LeiLani's smiling face, her emerald eyes gleaming and half-lidded, a few water droplets still shimmering from her whiskers.
Caption: Maybe it's her eyes, her smile, the way she moves, or the kindness in her heart...
Panel 6: Wide image as the two walk hand-in-hand across the sand naked, heading towards a grass hut several yards away in the background. The surf splashes just behind them, lapping at their feet as they go, their tails touching.
Caption: But everyone on Spontoon Island knows that LeiLani is a sea-otter you just cannot say "no" to...

His strong hands cup her full breasts, his fingers latching around her nipples, creating little furrows in her fur. Caption: "We loved welcoming them, for as little time as they spent among us..."
Panel 7: Heroic pose of David Perriere, a tall, black-furred, rugged and muscular wolf, as he stands aboard the edge of a ship, holding onto part of the sail rigging and looking out over the water. He wears tattered shorts, the wind blowing long dark hair out behind his back and over his chest. His flashing yellow eyes are a steel gaze as he scouts the sea.
Caption: "And then, one beautiful day, I met David..."
Panel 8: Split-panel - Left shows a medium image of LeiLani looking stunned as she has stopped swimming and gazes up from the water, unable to take her eyes off of David. A few of the other girls behind her smile dreamily.
Split-Right shows a close-up to David's face, obviously taken by the alluring otter's eyes and soft face. His yellow eyes open wide as he looks down at LeiLani, a little taken aback. The steel cold is gone from his gaze, replaced by the unmistakable look of a wolf falling in love.

MAC

DAVID

DAVID

Panel 3: LeiLani walking down the sidewalk, head down, trying not to cry again. Around her is the hustle and bustle of New York passerby.

Panel 4: LeiLani standing in the living room of David' apartment, looking confused, hurt, eyes still filled with tears. Her hands are folded in front of her, and she seems so helpless right now.
Caption: "Part of me wanted to go home, yes. Back to Tahiti. Forget all that had happened and put it behind me..."
Panel 5: Closer up on LeiLani's face, her eyes brimming with tears, but...behind the tears, there is an emerald glow, a flicker of burning anger just beginning to flare.
Caption: "But another part of me was stronger..."
