I let out a soft sigh as I lobbed my soaking wet engineers suit into the dryer. Working as an engineer on Tao Volantis was a tough job, because even after the climate change project, things frosted over a lot. It was still no way near as inhospitible as it was when Isaac Clarke ventured over to stop the necromorph invasion, but then again, nothing could be as awful as it was then. I walked slowly into my living room, settling down lazily on a small, cheap-looking sofa, and turned on the television with my All Purpose Kinesis Moduletm. Flicking impatiently through the channels, I quickly decided that there was nothing interesting on. It always felt like the Volantis TV networks aired awful shows, way worse than the channels I was used to watching a couple of months ago when I was training for my first job as an engineer back on Earth's Moon. I was still the youngest engineer I know of. I gazed wearily out of the sealed window, thinking about my friends back on the moon. My thoughts were interrupted by a sudden buzz from the old television.

''This is a public announcement. A unitologist cult...'' My thought ran to how the untiology religion had been shunned after the events here on Tao. ''Has managed to replicate a marker.'' I let out an audible choke. ''Please evacuate from the nearest spaceport. Thankyou for listening.'' I grabbed my plasma cutter that I left on my desk for bringing to work. I had heard what happened when a marker activated on the Sprawl. The entire place was destroyed. My ears flicked towards a groan in the hallway. Running towards the door, I heard a piercng scream from outside. Looking from the tiny window in the apartment door, I saw a corpse of a woman being dragged into a corner by a... slasher, I think they're called? I recoiled in horror as one of the bat winged infectors flapped against the window. The door creaked heavily as I raised my plasma cutter in defence, automatically roating it horizontally. The door fell immediately, and I fired the plasma cutter. The slasher's head popped off, hitting the floor with a splat that I could barely hear over the screaming of fur and necromorph alike. Firing in blind panic at the stumbling, beheaded slasher, I spotted the infector covering the convulsing corpse of the woman from eariler. As the lifeless corpse of the slasher fell with a sickening thud, I sliced of the infectors proboscis with a clean shot, causing it to collapse on the equally dead corpse of the woman. I think her name was Jane.
