Yeah, so last chapter was kinda....terrible. Thankfully, after chapter 4 I feel the story and writing gets better. Unfortunately, you still have two chapters to go before that. God help you :P

Promise? Chapter 3

So yeah, short detour my ass.

As we walked through the never-ending forest deemed Agata Forest, we encountered something called a... "Tsuta Ruins". Sounds fun! I thought.

Oh how wrong I was.

So first few steps into the ruins we're attacked by a band of imps. I drew my sword and slashed through a few of them while Ammy covered the sides, using this weird...mirror thing. I decided to ask later. Back to the life-threatening battle, I sliced through more imps with ease. Why are these things so easy to kill? Fuck, I just jinxed it didn't I?

Obviously, as soon as I thought that a new demon appeared. This one was the shape of a turtle with a bud on its back instead of a shell.

"Attack it until it opens its bud!" cried Ammy who seemed to be having trouble with her portion of the imps. Shit, if I don't help, she could die. But last night she told me that she wanted to grow stronger, I can't help her with every single fight if it keeps up like this or else she won't. I sighed, ran towards Ammy and helped slay the rest of the imps. I heard Ammy whisper "Thanks....." and I replied "No problem, rest here, regain your strength for this turtle thing. I may need help with it."

Ammy gave a slight nod as I ran towards the turtle thing. Ok, enough with that. Turtle things=Demented Seafarers from now on. I thought to myself when charging the demented seafarer. Obviously my attacks did nothing to that budshell and I was left wide open for a counter. The thing struck me in the chest with its claw and I was smacked right into the nearest tree. Then the thing started going towards Ammy who was still recovering from her fight with the imps.

Well fuck, died to a stupid turtle demon. Add that to the top ten shittiest ways to die.

I struggled to my feet thinking, I have.....to help.....her....

And that is where shit hit the fan.

I went to pick up my sword when I noticed my hand was glowing. It was this strange black glow that under any other circumstances I would have been thinking I was dreaming. Suddenly a memory revealed itself to me.

I was somewhere, it looked like a city. I was in a house.....covered in blood. I remember seeing some unidentifiable being break into the house and a man dead on the floor right in front of me. This man....was so familiar. The person covered in blood looked about the age of 8...maybe 9. The boy stood up and screamed something in what seemed like another language. The boy in my memory raised his hand and out came this burst of dark energy that pierced the figure. The figure laughed, and disappeared. The memory ended with boy crying.

Is that glow the same as now? The demon was right about to reach Ammy (What? It's a turtle for god's sake, it's slow). I thought to myself this is so gonna backfire on me isn't it? And so I focused on the glowing of my hand, pointed it towards the demon and literally on instinct, I shouted that same phrase that the boy in the memory shouted.

"Salin seguru!" Darkness, banish thee, I screamed and by some miracle, it worked. The demon was shot with the energy while I ran to make sure it was dead. What the fuck is going on.

Making sure the deed was done, I checked on Ammy who was lying there panting. She looked at me like I had just turned into a dragon. I chuckled in a desperate way

"Yeah, I have no idea either."

I picked up some of the herbs I was collecting while traveling through the forest and treated Ammy's wounds again. Issun seemed to be passed out from fear because he hadn't spoken in a while. Ammy just watched and occasionally winced as I treated her. After finishing, she decided to rest. I told her to go ahead, that I'll keep watch. As she slept, I decided to figure out what the hell just happened.

So the boy in the memory... it's safe to assume that was me. The figure though, who was that? It looked like....a fox. And that man, he must have been the person I was living with due to my young age. So to assume that he was my father is probably another safe assumption. So piecing the facts together, I most-likely am from this city in my memory, my father and I were attacked by something and I fired this...thing at the figure. The memory ends with me sobbing while my father lied dead.

I looked at my hand, Yeap, no more glowing. I wonder if I could somehow do that again. I reached my hand out to a tree a few feet away from me and focused. "Salin seguru" I said out loud. Another ball of the dark energy shot out of my hand.

And then I passed out.

I dreamed of the boy from my previous memory. He was attending some school. Judging by the weather outside, the fresh air of the classroom, and the sad looks in the children's faces, it was the first day of the term. The teacher was yelling at some man. I heard their conversation.

"NO! I refuse to teach that... thing!" said the teacher glaring at the boy who was just sitting at his seat.

"I understand your predicament, but I really don't care. He wants to learn, so teach him." replied the man. The teacher groaned and continued to teach.

The dream skips to the boy being picked on by the other boys. "Fox eyes, Fox eyes!" they shouted. The boy just stared straight ahead and started to head home, assuming that it was the end of school. As the boy walked home, everyone who saw him steered clear of him. The boy just kept looking straight ahead. When the boy got home, he was greeted by the same man who was in the previous memory. He was working at a desk.

"How was school?" he asked.

The boy just stared ahead.

"Ok then." replied the man, going back to work.

_ "Why do they hate me?"_

"Because humans are ignorant." replied the man.

I woke up to Ammy pawing my face. She had a worried look on her face.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

"I...think so..." I replied.

And then I realized that I had been crying. I wiped my face and stood up, getting ready to start moving again. I wanted to get out of this damn forest, as fast as possible. I looked at Ammy.

"How are you holding up?"

"I'm fine, thanks. Let's go."

So we went back to exploring the ruins, I fought off any demons with ease while Ammy used her brush techniques to solve the puzzles that were placed here by someone. What a dick. We got to this room where the night sky was clear above us. Ammy told me that whenever spontaneous nighttime/constellations appear overhead, 9/10 times it's a celestial brush god with a new technique. I just nodded and waited for her to finish the constellation. The brush god, a monkey, appeared and the room turned into this weird, somewhat holy color. The god began to speak. Ammy responded to the god while I just remained quiet, figuring that I should let her handle it.

Then the god turned and said,

"So Amaterasu, why are you traveling with a demon?"
