The wind whistled around me, and I spoke.

"Simba, retreat. I am in dive."

"Roger, Tin-man."

As the altimeter plunged, I aimed at the front building, and saw a speck in the side of the second one behind. A wolf was standing in the door, smoking a cigarette, standing in front of an open door. This was just too perfect, and I dived at the first building at a particular angle.

Draco rushed through the gate just as I released the sleeping canisters, he wanted to record the moment. I thought.

"Release bomb one! release two!"

The first one fell from my plane, and impacted in the centre of the barracks roof. The wood was shattered, and the bomb struck the hard concrete floor of the mess room, exploding. The second landed directly beside the wolf smoking the illicit cigarette, and bounced into the building. It too exploded. I didn't actually see this, because I was already pulling up to avoid smashing into the ground. What Draco saw was every window in both buildings blowing out, and blue smoke rising from each orifice. The wolf at the door slumped as the smoke washed over him, and there was a series of thumps as unconscious wolves fell to the ground.

I pulled up climbing rapidly, and heard the wail as I was locked on. Rockets streamed towards me, and as I got to a thousand feet, I changed. I rose at a decelerated rate, and hung in mid air for a brief moment. As I hung, the rockets zipped past me, missing by quite some way now they had no lock. I fell for three seconds, and then changed back, diving directly at the gap between the two buildings. I thought.

Release scanner.

I saw it detach from my wing, and with uncanny precision, plant itself in the ground slightly unevenly between the two buildings. Almost immediately, Simba spoke.

"It's in position!Colonel Javid, we are ready. Teleport!"

As I heard another succession of missiles locking on, I looked back, and saw a cluster of wolves between the two buildings. I fired countermeasures, and threw myself into a forward roll. The rockets all went up and detonated. I flew away for a kilometre, turned around, and landed. I changed into my Lambo form, and drove full speed towards the air base. Simba had his scanner out, and gave me an update.

"Eight buildings captured, two guard posts taken out. Draco took out one of the side ones, and one squad is currently fighting at the main gate."

"Excellent." I zoomed past him, and almost unopposed through the main gate. Gunfire clattered around, me and I headed directly towards the barracks, to where I knew Javid would be. I drove into the building up the front steps. My air filter meant that I didn't need an gas mask to not become affected by the gas, but Javid was at one window, his sniper rifle trained on the main gate, firing occasionally. I came to him, and spoke.

"All done, sir."

"Very good." Most of the rest of the men were tying unconscious wolves up, the bombing had been so precise.

Then things became complicated. There was an explosion of sound, and one wall disintegrated, right next to me and Javid. Before the smoke cleared, there was a rattle of a machine gun, and I saw Javid fall back, grabbing his shoulder. I drew my SRAW, and fired directly where the bullets were coming from.

This was an explosion from my launcher, a second's silence, and then a huge explosion directly in front of me. The force of it knocked me to the ground, and I landed beside Javid. While the rest of the squad took up points around the building, I rolled over, and saw Javid had been caught a bullet in the shoulder. I quickly drew my first aid kit in my backpack, and got some antiseptic and a long roll of gauze. As I ripped the sleeve of his shirt out of the way, I realised that the bullet had deeply grazed the skin, but had not stopped. I applied the antiseptic, hearing Javid hiss in pain.

I quickly started wrapping the arm in gauze. As I finished, I hauled him to his feet with his uninjured arm. He pick up his rifle and shouldered it, drawing his pistol. I heard him over the radio.

"Commander, the building is captured, the tank destroyed."

"I was worried for a second there. Who destroyed it?"

"Alduin."

There was a slight pause. "I see."

The battle lasted a quarter of an hour. We listened with mounting relief as each squad checked in. The commander started speaking to an unknown person.

"Send in armoured vehicles to transport prisoners, send in tanks to secure the area. The airfield is taken!"

I sighed in relief, and Javid shook my hand as we walked out. The commander came out of his building, walking over to us, as Draco and Simba rolled to a halt. They transformed, and we grinned at one another.

"Now that's a perfect plan." Javid commented.

"No, but it was executed well enough." Draco corrected, giving me a look. I laughed.

Half an hour after this, the gunfire stopped, and Red Clan members started filing in, hands on heads. Ten minutes after this, a convoy of armoured police vehicles arrived, and the prisoners were taken away. Counts were made, stats tallied up, and five hours after the plan was suggested, and as the sun was going over the horizon, the commander came into the enemy command centre on the airfield, where we were all having rations, and spoke with a smile.

"Total guard on airfield, five hundred, including pilots. Total deaths for Red clan, eighty seven, total captured, four hundred and five. Eight got away on motorcycles and small vehicles. Of the two hundred and twenty men of the Black clan which made the assault, only twelve lost their lives, with twenty eight wounded."

"Twenty seven plus Javid."I said. "How's the arm?"

"Painful." he admitted, clumsily feeding himself with his wrong hand."That was a good blind shot."

"I was aiming for the machine gun." I replied modestly.

"How many aircraft did we capture?"

"Eleven. We have pilots coming to take them to our main air base." the commander replied. As he sat down, we ate heartily, congratulating each other on our work. Then the commander's beeper went off, and he spoke into his walkie talkie.

"Speak to me."

"This is Sergeant Rufus. I've a message from HQ."

"Oh, I forgot to tell them about the strike." the commander apologised.

"You did forget, they're over the moon, and they've received a message from the Red Clan. With the taking of the air base, they want to hold a parley."

"Now they want to.We've wanted to so many times I've lost count.Where's the meeting?"

"At the church five miles from the air base. It's neutral territory, and it's also a church, so there won't be any weapons.Or so they claim."

"Ha," Javid replied," a wolf would sooner relinquish his left arm than his pistol during a parley. Alduin, just so you're aware, nearly all wolves at a parley will have a revolver."

"It's a fire fight waiting to happen."

"Exactly. How many, Rufus, are to come?"

"Eight."

"I see, powerful number, and the number of ranking people in a HQ.This must be serious."

"Well, we did take their airfield." I reminded.

"There is that."

"So who'll go?" Rufus asked.

"Me, Javid,"the colonel began, and then looked at us.I nodded, as did the dragon and the lion," Alduin, Draco, Simba, Canis, Lupin and you."

"Yes sir. The meeting's at noon, so we'll come in a car tomorrow morning."

"O.K., see you tomorrow."

The sergeant signed off, and after dinner finished, we went upstairs, and Draco and Simba went into a three bed room with the commander. Draco immediately shotgunned top bunk, and the commander went for the lower one.

Me and Javid went into the next room, and after some quick redecoration of a two bedroom room, i.e., taking down posters, personal effects, etc., we lay down on the surprisingly comfy beds.

"If this is an officer's bed, why can't they make me an officer?" I complained, putting my gun, rocket launcher, belt, bag and pistol on the ground.

"They probably will after today, Alduin. So you explore the worlds in the sky?"

Here it comes, I thought, and spoke my thoughts."Let me guess, you want to join us."

"Hell yeah." the wolf nodded energetically.

"Good, I saw you in the building when we took those prisoners, and saw the fire of exploration in your eyes. After a while you can see it in any potential person. You've definitely got the skills. It's a simple matter, at the end of this, you can come back with us to Central."

"Just like that?"

"I said it was simple."I smiled at the stunned wolf.

"So you don't test people?"

"We did, already. You are resourceful, courageous, loyal, friendly, etc. What more need be said? Although there is one minor qualification needed."

"And that is?"

"We all enjoy fighting one another."I grinned disarmingly." Wrestling one another. How good are you?"

"Just come and find out."

We got off the beds, and faced one another. We took off our clothes, save for boxers, so there was none of this tearing of clothes, and then I charged.

I don't normally start proceedings, but Javid was equal to the task. With one hand he knocked me past him and onto the bed.I used my momentum to hit the bed, and do a forward roll off the bed and back on to my feet. I turned and looked at Javid.

"I meant to do that." I said, with a straight face. We both got onto the bed, and Javid dived into me. With a deft twist, I grabbed his body as he tried to knock me off the bed, and stopped him from flying off it himself. As he prepare to twist I let him fall onto the bed, and sat on his back.

"Almost Javid.Draco's fought me so many times it's not funny, so I've picked up a few tricks."

"You wrestle with that dragon? But he's a foot taller than you, and at least ten kilos more." Javid struggled underneath me.

"Strength and size help, but a very skilled smaller person can do better, although admittedly with a bit of luck."

"So this is just practice for the planets?"

"Sure.More than once it's been down to fists and wrestling. We escaped from seven Red clan with our hands."

"Then one Black clan was not much of a threat, then?"

"Well, our advantage was they weren't expecting it.They had guns in their hands, we didn't." I replied modestly.

"Could I make a point right now?"

"Certainly."

"Are you and Draco in love together?I just couldn't help noticing over dinner that he gave you a few glances in that manner."

"We are, lovers, in that sense. It's a sort of dominating thing, who can best the other. On Central, you can a hundred lovers, of all races, and no one will blink twice. Are you of that school?"

"I enjoy sex, but an army sniper doesn't see much female flesh.Besides, all the males around here are very professional. Bonding is, discouraged, during fighting."

"So you're sexually deprived?"

"Well, it's been a while, admittedly."

"My poor wolf. We can't have that." I replied, and lowered myself onto him.

"Hang on just a second! I've never been fucked before. What do I do?"

"You're a virgin?"

"Well, no one's ever fucked me anally." Javid admitted.

"Really? You don't know what you're missing. We can't have that, but I'd prefer a friend of mine to explain that lesson. He's so much better at it than me. Roll over."

I got off him, and he obediently rolled over, his member hanging down, unerect.

"I'll cure that."I took his cock in one hand, stroking it slowly. I felt the blood rush through his cock, and it enlarged and hardened in anticipation.I'd learnt a few tips from some of the Hunted, i.e., Winslo mostly, and I stroked it until it was fully erect. Again, another wolf with a large member, a good thirteen inches by my estimate, and I saw Javid grip the edges of the mattress.

I got a bit closer in, and licked the tip of his cock with delicacy. He twitched in frustration, and I continued licking gently. Finally he snapped, his impatience getting the better of him, and he took the back of my head with his hand, and lowered me firmly onto his cock. I took his hand away, and spoke.

"Feeling a little frisky, then?"

"Alduin..."

"I start slow, it makes it feel more pleasurable." but I started sucking his cock, taking about half his developed member in my mouth.

He sighed as my tongue rubbed against his length. With one hand I gently rubbed his testicles, and I saw him clutch the mattress harder.

"Enjoying it?"I suggested, slightly muffled. The wolf sighed deeply.

"What ever you do, don't stop." he said, and I started working harder. I sucked him off for several minutes, noting his urgings to work harder and his moans of sexual pleasure. Finally I could feel him tense for the moment, and I started going as deep as I could on him, and he roared, a torrent of cum ejaculating from his quivering cock into my mouth. I swallowed hurriedly, but an excess went over my lips and chin. He fell back heavily on to the bed, gasping for breath, and I released his cock, sitting on the bed also. He looked at me, a mixture of admiration and curiosity.

"Do all the scouts in Central enjoy each other like this?"

"A lot of them, yes."

"Why haven't I joined before?"

"Probably because you were unaware of any other alien life forms." I smiled at Javid's look.

We slept well after that, and woke in the morning. I checked all three of my weapons, my pulse pistol was fine, my rifle I had cleaned every last spot off, and my rocket launcher, well I didn't know anything about it, so it may have been on perfect condition or not. We ate a stomach filling breakfast, and as the three other wolves arrived for the parley, we got into a set of cars. The wolf with a reddish tinge, Rufus, went with Draco, Simba and the commander, and the commander told me to fly ahead to the church.

"A parley is taken seriously here, no weapons on any wolf, although no one listens to that bit, and even the guards are only allowed pistols.I believe that tradition, on the other hand, allows every wolf there to carry one standard revolver. You should have no problem. Just fly around the church a bit."

"Inside the church?"

"Well, it would tell us what's there before we arrive." the commander nodded. I changed into my form, using the huge concrete runway, and took off. They were only driving out of the air base as I was flying full tilt past them, and in a matter of a minute, I was circling the church, two cameras either side of me, and one on my underbelly. My camera glasses were also recording, so those in the cars could see everything.

Four guards were standing around the building, carrying pistols. All of them were looking at me as I flew around the church. Then I engaged the hover engines, and drifted to where the great bell on top of the church would be, had it not been removed. It provided me an easy access to the main part of the church. The church itself was magnificent, made of marble and white stone, and was more a cathedral. Standing upon the raised dais were eight wolves, looking at me with a suspicious manner. This church had no second tier, and the X-ray scan Draco ran showed there was no one else in the building.

I landed in the main aisle, gently touching the ground, and I switched off the jet. the deafening roar fading to a whine, and then silence settled uncomfortably in the church. The wolves stood in a slight V, so that the leader was standing at the back, and the two sergeants were standing in front, ready to interpose. The leader spoke.

"What is this thing?"

Javid's voice echoed through my cockpit, from one of the cameras.

"This is just an aerial recon vehicle of ours, we were slightly held up, and we are on our way to the church."

"Ah, the implacable Javid, I believe. You are bringing the two off worlders that my scouts spoke about?"

"Draco and Simba, yes. They decided to tell you what they thought of your welcoming party."

"This debate is for when you arrive, Javid." the leader interrupted, and Javid switched off his com link. They arrived a minute after that, walking gently through the foyer into the main hall. the leader of the Red Clan looked at the assembled party. Draco and Simba were disguised, and he spoke to Javid.

"I do not see the creatures here, Javid. Also, you have seven, I requested eight."

"We do have eight. And the offworlders, as you name them, are loathe to reveal themselves to someone who sent a helicopter, a platoon of troops, and a tank after them."

"This is a parley, there will be no fighting taking place. I wish to see these creatures."

Draco and Simba changed. There was a few visible movements among the Red clan, looking mostly at Draco, but the leader remained unmoved.

"And the eighth?"

"The one who junked both tanks, got shot down by your AA? You wish to talk to Alduin?" Javid looked surprised." I'm surprised he hasn't killed you all by now.Alduin, explain."

I transformed into my bionic form. The leader levelled a finger at Javid.

"No weapons are brought to a parley!"

"Well, except pistols."Javid added. I looked the leader directly in the eye.

"It states no wolf shall bring weapons into the building a parley is taking place in. But I am no wolf.Besides, your men came this close to killing me, and the only way these weapons are coming off is if I am no longer here.By the way, you know our names, what is yours?"

"My name is Furdinand."the leader replied coldly." And, Alduin, while you are on this planet, you shall obey the Wolven Code."

"Wrong! I obey no law, save those that I agree to. Yet if you obey this Code, why is everyone here carrying guns?"

"It is traditional that none carry weapons at a parley, but equally so, no self respecting wolf during war would go anywhere without a pistol. You carry more than a pistol, Alduin."

"I do, and you can try and take my rifle off me, if you like. But a warning, I suffer none to touch me."

"Alduin, if we can refrain from the threats, the natives want to discuss things." Draco suggested.

"Draco, has anyone else here had their leg almost taken off by a rocket?" I shot back, but went back to him, winking. I got a wink back from the dragon, we enjoyed intimidation.

We hung back as the Black clan stepped forward. there was a large table behind the Red clan members, and they all sat down, watching each other like hawks.

It was almost like theatre. They spoke frequently about the war, and more than once this turned to personal abuse. The insults were thrown across the table, and I looked at this, and whispered to Simba.

"I thought this was supposed to be a parley, diplomacy."

"It is, it's just their own style of diplomacy."

"It sounds like the Celts. One warrior would step forward, and shout abuse at the chosen warrior for the other side."

"Well, it seems to be working."

Javid was good at this. The trick seemed to be getting your enemy so wound up he drew his pistol, and then act affronted. This made the opposition annoyed, both with himself and with you, so you gained the initiative. After half an hour, Javid and the commander had both been drawn at by six of the opposition, and a few of the Black clan had succumbed to fury. I was this close to giving them a standing ovation and an encore, just to show how silly it looked. Finally, the commander of our side spoke.

"Right, fooling completed, we have your air base, you want it back. You want our land, we're not prepared to give it away, because it is our territory, and has been for a thousand years. My suggestion is to quit while you still have land yourself."

Now that was a development. The Red clan leader howled in fury.

"You think it's that simple? You have stolen our land by some off world trick. Since this war started, we have not taken an inch of each other's land, and suddenly you attack like this.If anyone is to blame, it is you. We were prepared to throw insults across the bridge, but we never made an assault on your bases."

"No, you just took our land, an inch at a time."Javid replied calmly."You knew we would never stand for it, and you paid a high price for it.And if this was a cold war of insults, then why did you never respond to our requests of parley?Only when we've won do you cry for fair play."

"Just out of interest, commander, that trick is still in play." Simba called, pointing at his lap top. They were still all wearing the short range teleporters, and the scanner hadn't been removed from being embedded in the ground.

"O.K., all this aside," Javid raised a hand," what about the alpha male and female? We still are yet to choose one, due to your land grabbing."

"We did choose, the alpha male and female from our clan?"

"Listen Furdinand, you know the laws just as much as anyone else, a clan cannot have both the alpha male and the female." Rufus interjected.

"And who else was there to choose?"

"Our princess seemed the logical choice." Rufus replied.

"Oh come on. Spare me the natterings. Our queen would be a much more intelligent leader than her."

Bang, they were off again. But we explorers were looking in slight confusion. I drew my rifle, aimed it directly upwards, and fired a round. All the wolves stopped, and looked at me.

"For the off worlders," Draco said, adding emphasis on the words," what is this alpha male and female of which you speak?"

Furdinand raised his eyes in surprise. Javid looked slightly annoyed. The commander did also, neither of them had told us about this.

"The alpha male and alpha female, by your terms, rule clans, and bring them together in unity, or so the story is supposed to go. The rules state that one clan cannot have both."

"So it's like a king and queen?" Simba said, tapping his mike.

"Yes."Javid nodded."Your system of, monarchy, as Alduin called it, is very much the same. When the alpha male dies, a new pair must be chosen. But this time the Red Clan submitted both a male and a female, without our knowledge. Then they started this war by trying to take more of our land."

O.K., I had had enough of this. Passing my rocket launcher to Draco and my rifle to Simba, I strolled straight up the aisle towards the table.

"I don't believe this. I'm sorry I just don't. Are you telling me that you two clans have been fighting over who is king and queen?"

"Yes, it's important." Furdinand nodded, wondering where this was going.

"Then you're saying that all those men who died yesterday, all those people who have died for however long you've been quarreling, have done so because of a stupid marriage issue?"

Slight pause, while the wolves ran this through their collective heads. Javid was looking in slight confusion. Then one of the lower ranks in the Red Clan spoke.

"But they fought because they believed they were fighting for a good cause!"

I turned on him.

"No, they weren't. It's stupid. We have many monarchies, and bloodshed, while I will admit has lead the way, is terrible. At this rate, there'll be no one left to govern. Who would run a dead planet?Javid's leaving with us tomorrow, and looking at this place, it's little wonder. Maybe it's because he, like I, can't stand being here!"

Absolute silence. A few looked at Javid, who was looking at me. I scowled and swept the table with a glance.

"On my planet, we have many forms of government. We have people who rule because they were elected by the majority. We call it democracy. We have dictatorships, republics, communism, and they all don't work in their own way. But the trick is to make the government not work in the best possible way. And fighting over such a idiotic point is not helping. Instead of warring over it, why not discuss it?"

"That's what this parley is for."Furdinand replied.

"Oh really? One hour to the clock, before someone mentioned it. Was this in fact a parley, or was it just an opportunity to throw mud at one another? I've been standing there, with Draco, and all I've been thinking is that this is a game. This is not diplomacy, this is theatre sports."

Now all but Javid stood, guns levelled at me.

"You know, Alduin,"Simba said slowly,"I think you've caught on the rules pretty quickly."

"Hey, they've been doing it to one another for the last hour, and I have been watching. I learn fast."

"I beg your pardon?" Furdinand growled.

"Your little game."I replied, equally frostily," Make the opposition mad, then act affronted, make them look foolish compared to you. Is this just a p*&sing contest, or do you actually want to do some good for your people?"

The commanders of both sides looked at one another. My stinging words had silenced the hall, I couldn't help feeling how many politicians had acted like these wolves had over the last hour. Most of them, at any rate.I continued my rant.

"Furdinand, what do your people think about this whole alpha thing?"

"They are happy with the current suggestion."

"Is it them, or just you?" Draco came forward. "What is so wrong with the princess from the black clan? If you take away the fact she is one of the black clan, what is actually wrong with her?"

Draco was a fierce debater, and Furdinand shuffled uncomfortably.

"I'm not saying that the princess is bad or anything, I'm just saying that our own princess would be a better queen."

"Point made. You are saying it, not a poll of your clan men. Give them the choice. Both from your clan, and a war, or the alpha male marrying a princess from a different clan, and peace? Which do you think they would prefer? I woiuld guess that there has not been much happiness behind the walls of military propaganda." the dragon snarled.

"And so what? What if my countrymen all agreed?"

"Then that's their decision. But if you seriously want peace, then the Black clan have to be happy as well."

"So you want them to marry their princess to our prince?"

"This is not a question of want,it's a question of what's best for the people, Furdinand." Javid said, looking at the table. Rufus was looking down."If your princess is indeed better, than there is no reason not to choose her.But we never worked together to find out. We have an alpha male as well, neither of us even considered him."

"We're also forgetting the alpha's themselves. That what why I was so adamant. They have to be happy, because it ends up nasty if they hate each other."

"Have they ever communicated between one another?"

"Very little. Our prince is very out spoken against their princess."

"The feeling's reciprocated." Javid nodded.

"What if there was some way to get one of the two cross pairings to fall in love?" Simba suggested.

"Are you telling me that you could get our alpha male to fall in love with their princess?"

"I'm telling you that we could give it a go, if you try and work together. Javid, Furdinand, could you work together, for peace?"
