"Laura, this is control we going to move you up to the flight deck, you'll be safe there until this breach or whatever has happened is over"
"Roger" she replied as her ship was raised the flight deck with two other ships, she looked at her display it showed the magnetic locks were still engaged, she couldn't leave even if she wanted to.
"Laura, can we go now" Lynx's voice came over her radio
"Lynx, you made it, but I can't leave the-" she started to say then looked at her display showing that the locks were disengaged
"Laura, this is control we show a failure of the lift and mag-locks under your ship, are you alright"
"I'm fine" she replied then she spotted the catapult slide toward her ship and latch-on, the catapult then wound its self up and flung her ship along the deck and out into space.
"Laura this is control we show that you've been launched, we can't explain why it happened but we'll be looking into it, until we see you again have a safe journey" with that control signed off
"Lynx, you did that" Laura asked
"Yep, a PDA can do anything you want it to" he replied,
Laura smiled and set a jump course for home.
Ten minutes later, Laura landed her ship and opened the cargo bay, revealing the 5 foot 8 tall Lynx with a pony bottle in his mouth "honey, welcome home" her mother Julie said as she came to meet them.
Lynx quickly removed the pony bottle from his mouth
"And you've brought a furry friend, how lovely"
"This is..." Laura started to say
"Eric, my name is Eric but everyone calls me Lynx" Lynx said extending his hand,
Her mother shook it "nice to meet you Lynx, my name is Julie, come you both must be hungry" her mother said walking toward the centre or 'core' of the station
"I know, Laura told me, she was kind enough to rescue after some jerks attacked me, crippled my ship and left me for died after they found out I was not a hybrid" Lynx lied
"How horrible" Julie said,
"Fox is coming" Lynx whispered to Laura as stepped into the lift and it ascended
"Here" Laura said "when",
"Soon" Lynx said "my ride will be here soon" he said to Julie,
The lift stopped and the doors opened "oh your leaving so soon" she replied stepping out of the lift
"I will stay longer, if that is alright with you of course" Lynx said
"It's fine" Julie said taking a closer look at him as he walked past her, julie walked out onto the balcony, ten feet above the hanger deck, she didn't notice the lift rise up, then descend back into the hanger bay with a unknown black ship on it.
"Mom, can I talk to you" Laura said following her mother out onto the balcony
"Of course, what's the matter" Julie said
"There's something I have to tell you about Lynx" Laura said
"What like, he's really a hybrid or something" Julie said jokingly
"Well...yeah" Laura said
"WHAT! you brought a hybrid here, what were you thinking, i am very upset at you" her mother screamed at her
"What seems to be the problem" Lynx asked from the door
"You will leave this station immediately or I'll have you shot" Julie spat at him,
Her words seemed to go through him like gamma ray with no effect.
"I have no intention of hurting anyone but I can't say the same for Fox" Lynx said as a familiar vixen-like figure climbed up, over the railing and landed softly behind them, drawing her pistol
"You can say that again Lynx are you ok" Fox asked, Julie and Laura both snapped around to see a 5 foot 7 vixen pointing a pistol at them
"Never better" Lynx replied "apart from getting hit by a shock dart of course"
The Fox growled, draw her lips back exposing her fangs
"What took you so long?" Lynx asked
"Hunters had swarmed the area" she said "we were stuck there until they left, I have your stuff".
Lynx zipped up his flight suit and strapped his guns around his waist, pulled one gun out and inspected it then replaced back in its holster then pulled the other one out and did the same,
"So this is the person that saved you" Fox said nodding her head at Laura
"Yes, Laura did save me" Lynx said "her father hated me from the word go, I wonder if he realises that I'm gone".
"He will" Laura said sitting at the table, completely unafraid of him or the vixen, her mother on the other hand was truly terrified, Fox went over to Laura
"You fully trust us" Fox asked Laura, Laura nodded
"Hey Lynx, looks like we have a friend here" Fox said loudly "Lynx has never had a friend before".
"I find that hard to believe, he's so sweet and caring" Laura said
"It's true, I never had a family apart from Fox and the others" Lynx said "everyone's life I touch brings them pain and suffering, I can't stop it from happening again".
Lynx walked out onto the balcony, looking around the station, he noted the core of the station was six decks high surrounded by the hanger bay/cargo hold, Lynx climbed over the railing
"What you doing" Fox asked watching from the doorway
"Nothing, just getting some exercise" Lynx replied smiling and leapt from the railing to the ones above him and pulled himself up onto the deck above then climbed back over the railing and dropped back down to the first level where Fox was standing
"Fun, eh" Fox asked
"Very" Lynx answered.
David approached the station, he initiated the landing procedures and got a 'lift in transit' message in his HUD, he landed and looked around 'well Laura's home, but who owns the other ship' he thought as he walked past Laura's ship toward 'the core'
The lift doors open "Laura, do you have someone" David said then stopped as he saw his daughter and wife sitting at the table with two hybrids, three pistols sat on the table
"What's going on here" he demanded
"I want you pair off my station now" David pulled his pistol out and fired, both Fox and Lynx grabbed their guns, David drew a bead on Lynx but someone jump in front of him,
It was Laura; Laura took the round in the chest "Laura!! No!!" her mother screamed, Lynx kicked the table at David, grabbed Laura as she fell and ran for the balcony,
Fox fired back at david hitting the walls either side of him forcing to duck under the flying table then ran after Lynx, they both jump over the railing together, dropping ten feet to the deck below,
The deck shuddered under their landings, they ran to Fox's freighter still parked on the lift, Lynx laid Laura down on the bed as Fox grabbed some first aid kits then went to the cockpit.
Laura looked at Lynx, who was keeping pressure on her wound "Am I going to die" she asked him, Fox came back after setting course for their home
"No you'll be ok soon" he replied, Fox took over keeping pressure on her wound
"You're lying" she said
"I am, just because you are my friend" Lynx said rubbing alcohol on her arm and injecting her with pain-killers
"How do you feel" he asked
"Warm" Laura said, Lynx took his PDA off and strapped it to Laura's arm, he set the PDA for medical scan, it beeped in time with her heart beat, he looked at Fox, she shook her head
"Fox" he said
"The round got her heart" Fox said sadly "I'm sorry".
"It's not your fault" Laura said
"But it is if I hadn't broken out of the brig you wouldn't be lying here shot" Lynx said
"And if I hadn't found you, I would never have known that hybrids could be so caring and compassionate" Laura said, Lynx just smiled.
Back at the station "How could you shoot our daughter, then let them take her" Julie said as bounty hunters searched the station for any clue where they could have gone
"I'm sorry I failed to protect our daughter" David said with his head in his hands.
As they approached hybrid station deep in an ice asteroid field, Laura was barely alive but Lynx hoped they could help her.
The ship docked and Laura was transferred to the medical facility "there nothing we can do but replace her heart" the nurse said handing Lynx back his PDA
"What kind of heart do you want to give her", Lynx put his hand on his heart 'mine' he thought
"A tiger's" he said the nurse shook her head
"We don't have any ready", Lynx looked down
"What about a cheetah heart" Fox asked
"Ok, we have a few available, we'll replace her lungs too" the nurse said
"Thank you" Lynx said.
Hours past, Lynx went down to the hanger deck to take his mind off Laura, "hey Lynx, can you give us a hand" Fox yelled.
Fox and Tiger were trying to lift a chain-gun onto the wing of a fighter but couldn't lift it high enough, with Lynx's help they lifted it into place, the gun clicked on to the wing, Tiger hit a button on his PDA, the gun barrels started spinning, Tiger hit the button again the gun barrels stopped
"Test complete, ready for loading" Tiger said "thanks Lynx",
"No problem" Lynx said as he pulled the ammo cart under the wing. Hooked an ammo belt up to the ammo ejection slot, Tiger reversed the gun pulling the ammo belts into the fighter, as he watch the ammo fed into the fighter Lynx checked his PDA for an update on Laura's condition.
Several hours later Laura woke, her chest hurt but she was alive, her transformation was almost complete, her face was yet to morph
"Hey" she said weakly
"Hey" Lynx whispered "how you feeling",
"Good" Laura replied weakly "it still hurts, did they fix me",
Lynx nodded
"I don't feel different" she said,
"You are" Lynx said "when you are better we'll run a few tests",
"What kind of tests" Laura asked
"Just standard tests, running, jumping, climbing, endurance" Fox said as she walked in to check on her as well "everyone does them at one time or another, then we'll train you to use a PDA, fire arms, Lynx says you're a good pilot we'll train you to be a better pilot".
"Please don't scare her" Lynx said to Fox "she's been through enough pain and suffering already"
Fox chuckled and Laura smiled weakly
"You, get some rest" he said to Laura before kissing her on the forehead, she drifted off to sleep as Fox asked Lynx to join her in the armoury.
Lynx and Fox walked in to the armoury and Lynx unconsciously went over and pulled a 50.cal sniper rifle off the wall, slapped a magazine in and started getting it ready to use, "you going into battle or something" Fox said as he put the rifle to his shoulder and checked the scope
"No, but you know what they say 'hope for the best and prepare for the worst', why" Lynx answered still looking though the scope
"You have a rifle in your hands and I just want to talk to you" Fox said,
Lynx looked up, sighed, pulled the magazine out of the rifle, and replaced the sniper rifle back on the wall.
"what do you want to talk about" Lynx asked pulling out his 9mm browning pistols, de-cocked them, ejected the magazines and placed them on the opposite wall, then took two modified 1911 colt .45s off the wall, jammed the magazines into them, cocked them then holstered them
"you and Laura, you know she will go back and tell everyone where we are hiding" Fox said taking a MP-5K sub-machine gun off the wall and pulling back the bolt to look down the barrel "do you trust her",
Lynx stoved a few pistol clips into his belt then pulled a CAR-15 assault rifle off the wall, pulled back the bolt, checked the barrel, raised it to his shoulder looked down the sights
"I do" he replied,
Fox sat the stock of the MP-5K on her hip "really, I thought you said you only trust these" Fox said bouncing the MP-5K on her hip
"No, I trust these" he replied holding up his hand and extending his claws
"You do realise she's an hybrid now, they'll be looking for her" Fox said placing the MP-5K back on the wall
"They will come anyway, for her or for us" Lynx said flatly placing the CAR-15 back on the wall and walking out the door.
