where i came from. chapter one. beach landing
seeing as this is my first story please offer any advice you may have about this.
this story takes place during WW2 at the battle of Okinawa. The persons depicted here are obviously fake. And any reference to persons living or dead is coincidental. The events are also fake. Except for the battle of Okinawa. The weapons mentioned are real as are the XXIV Corps.
All characters belong to me.
A grey wolf by the name of Aiel stared at the steel hull of the landing craft, his heart beating like crazy as shells flew through the air. Each one seemed determined to destroy their vessel. He griped his rifle harder at the thought of the boat taking a hit.
He couldn't hear the commander over the constant sound of cannons and gunfire. He did however hear the sound of the shell hitting the water near the craft causing it to capsize.
Aiel was suddenly thrown from the boat and under the surface of the water. Panic surged through his veins. He thrashed around frantically before realizing that he was slowly moving toward the surface. After breaking the surface of the water and getting some air into his lungs he looked around for the landing craft. He spotted it and most of his squad clinging to the side of it.
Aiel spotted his friend a Bengal tiger named William swimming for the craft. When all of a sudden a shell impacted the landing craft and it exploded.
Aiel was knocked back underwater by the blast. Upon surfacing he started calling out to his squad. There was no response. Suddenly William surfaced next to him. "We need to get to shore!" William sad. "But what about the survivors?" "They should head there."
Aiel looked around once more making sure there was no one needing help when he spotted another landing craft with a tank in it.
"Look" he said pointing in the direction of the craft. "We shouldn't have to worry about getting stuck on the beach for to long." Will saw the tank, nodded, and swam for the beach. Aiel followed him.
They swam to the beach where at least a dozen machine guns were hidden, and ran for the nearest cover.
"How are we supposed to get anywhere with all these bullets flying!" Aiel shouted. " Like this!" his friend leapt away from the bolder they were hiding behind and started shooting at the emplacements. After emptying the clip of ammo he ducked back and reloaded. "You're insane!" "Yep. And still alive." "You just can't wait for the tank to back us up can you?" "Nope."
Aiel was about to tell his friend his dumb luck would eventually be worn out by has constant acts of stupidity when the thunderous sound of a cannon ripped through the air. Followed by the shock and heat wave of a nearby explosion. Both he and William ducked. "We should move." William said. "Agreed." Was Aiel's only response.
They ran for the sea wall and were stopped by barbed wire and the sea.
"Shit! Now what!"
"Um... run?"
"That's the only thing you can think of!? Run!? What kind of stupid ass idea is th-" Aiel was cut short by a the sound of bullets ripping through the air near them.
"Fuck it." Aiel, said as he took off up the beach.
"Wait for me!" William shouted as he ran after Aiel.
Many hours passed before the beach was secure. During that time Aiel and William had joined the other soldiers assaulting the beach. After the battle they met with the commander of that unit. After explaining what had happened to them he offered them the job of investigating the caves and bringing back any info they could. He quickly took them a to a 3 man team.
The others in the team were Andrew, a brown bear with a type 92 Japanese MG, Cody, a German shepherd with an Ithaca 37 shotgun, and Norman, an aardvark with an M1.
After a quick briefing to the group he sent them off to the caves.
